‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ will be the DiCaprio and Scorsese’s fifth project together. By Jocelyn Vena Leonardo DiCaprio Photo: Kiyoshi Ota/ Getty Images After some stops and starts, it seems that Martin Scorsese ‘s “The Wolf of Wall Street” is in full “go” mode with his longtime leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio , locked in to star. According to Deadline , the film has yet to nail down a timeline for when it will shoot and get distribution, but DiCaprio and Scorsese felt that now was the right time to get cracking on the flick. The two have been trying to get it into production since 2007, but they separated to work on their own high-profile projects before deciding to work together again. At one point, Ridley Scott had been attached to direct the film, but that later shifted back to Scorsese . The film is based on the tell-all memoir written by Jordan Belfort, a drug-, sex- and alcohol-addicted stockbroker who landed in prison for refusing to cooperate in a 1990s securities fraud case. It’s a steamy story of his fall from a 20-something multimillionaire to a 30-something federal convict banned from the securities business for life. The film would focus on Belfort’s relationship with an FBI agent and his attempt to make him into an informant. In addition to their roles as director and actor, Scorsese and DiCaprio will also serve as producers on the film. Writer Terence Winter, known for his work with “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire,” is reportedly cleaning up the script before the film goes to production. This marks the fifth collaboration for Scorsese and DiCaprio, who have worked together in the past on “Gangs of New York,” “The Aviator,” “The Departed” and “Shutter Island.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . This is just so sad A Moroccan teen committed suicide after being forced to marry her rapist, who wed his victim in a bid to beat the system and evade prison Amina Al Filali, 16, drank rat poison last week in Larache, near Tangiers in the north, said Fouzia Assouli, president of Morocco’s Democratic League for Women’s Rights. The girl’s rapist had sought to escape prison by invoking an article of the penal code that he claimed would exonerate him if the rape victim was his wife. Assouli deplored that the relevant article proclaims to defend family values, “but does not uphold the rights of women.” Under Moroccan law, rape is punishable by five to 10 years in prison. According to the father’s interview, the girl was accosted on the street and raped when she was 15, but it was two months before she told her parents. He said the court pushed the marriage, even though the perpetrator initially refused. He only consented when faced with prosecution. The penalty for rape is between five and 10 years in prison, but rises to 10 to 20 in the case of a minor. In some societies the loss of a woman’s virginity outside of marriage is considered a dishonour to her family, and arrangements are often made for rape victims to marry their attackers. Rest In Peace Amina Al Filali, hopefully you’re death will not be vein and brings forth major social change. Source More On Bossip! Filmmaking brothers David and Nathan Zellner ( Goliath ) tackle the isolation and discovery of childhood in Kid-Thing , a naturalist East Texas-set fable about Annie (Sydney Aguirre), a lonely ten-year-old tomboy who discovers a mystery woman at the bottom of a well while playing by herself one day in the woods. Lending her distinctive voice to the proceedings is Oscar-nominated cult actress Susan Tyrrell ( Forbidden Zone , Cry-Baby , Fat City ) as the woman in the well, who may or may not be real – or harmless. Movieline spoke with Tyrrell and the Zellner bros. about their Sundance, Berlin, and SXSW selection, which screens in Austin today. The ambiguity of what’s really going on in the world of Kid-Thing lends the film its sense for the childhood experience as witnessed through Annie’s eyes; ignored and left to her own devices by her hapless single father (played by Nathan Zellner), Annie stifles her frustrations at home and wanders the dirt roads and freeways on her BMX bike, casually destroying anything she stumbles across. On the one hand she’s deeply perceptive, the result of early confrontations with disappointment, neglect, and loneliness; on the other, she’s still a kid ruled by her own sense of logic, morality, and imagination. Many films have tackled the inner life of children, but few of them choose as their protagonists complex young girls facing the world with such a deeply-felt emotional chip on their shoulder. David Zellner, who wrote and directed the film, explained what inspired the creation of Annie. “We wanted to do a movie centered around a child that was from the child’s perspective, as opposed to the rose-tinted glass of an adult perspective – whether it was an adult literally looking back or you just kind of get that vibe sometimes, a lot of films about children are sentimental and have a tendency towards being maudlin and we wanted it to be an in the now kind of perspective of what this kid’s going through, in terms of the beauty and horror of how they’re interpreting the world around them.” As played by newcomer Aguirre, Annie’s one of the more complex and interior child protagonists to come along in a while – destructive and emotional, growing out of her blithe childhood in the never-explained absence of her mother. Left to fend for herself, more or less, she increasingly tests boundaries in the world around her – and the discovery of Esther (Tyrrell), trapped at the bottom of a dark hole in the ground, puts Annie in control of something for the first time in her life. “I like how kids at that age are like little explorers and scientists and they’re all about pushing buttons and finding boundaries, and there’s this stimulus-response thing,” said Zellner. “’If I do this, how does the world around me react?’” The Zellners found their young star after working with her on a music video, and after years of developing the idea for Kid-Thing they knew they had just the right Annie. “She’s very physical and very athletic and we loved that, because you don’t see many girl characters that aren’t just precious,” Zellner explained, comparing her Annie to a female Huck Finn and a Days of Heaven / Out of the Blue actress Linda Manz. When it came to finding the right voice for Esther, the duo looked no further than veteran actress Tyrrell, whom they’d met through the Austin film scene. “Susan has this great demanding, aggressive, sweet, powerful voice,” remarked Nathan Zellner, “and Sydney’s so silent — but she battles her a couple of times in the film and it was like a power struggle between a ten year old and this mysterious woman.” Tyrrell, who refused to read the whole script (“I like to hear as little as possible — that’s my style,” she explains), agreed to lend her voice to the film and recorded her part in the span of a few hours. “I figured I had nothing to lose,” she said. “It was like two hours or three. That’s how I like to do it – fast!” Despite losing her legs due to illness in 2000 Tyrrell has continued to work in film here and there, appearing most recently in films like Masked and Anonymous as Ella the Fortune Teller. But in classic Tyrrell style, she has no reservations about showing her condition to the world. “I know people are looking, but I’ve always enjoyed attention. And I have my dog, everyone’s scared of her – she’s a silver giant poodle, a really big one. When we go out on the street it’s honk, honk!” In fact, she hopes to reunite with the Zellners on a much different feature film, in which she would star. “We have a very sick idea,” she promised. “The next film we’re doing, I can only say – I lost my legs, so I’ll be legless – there will be a lot of sex.” Though she now prefers a quiet life, Tyrrell keeps acting “for the money, honey!” But the independently-produced Kid-Thing , a modest affair by most standards, came about for other reasons. “You’ve got to do things for your friends,” she explained, “and hope that it all comes out.” Kid-Thing screens today and this week at SXSW . The troubles marring the relationship between fast-talking literary agent Jack McCall (Eddie Murphy) and his wife and the mother of his baby Caroline (Kerry Washington) are nothing next to the issues A Thousand Words has in marrying wacky physical comedy and a new age exploration of absentee fathers. The film, which is directed by Norbit ‘s Brian Robbins and written by Bruce Almighty ‘s Steve Koren, is being slung at audiences as a broad family laffer of the Jim Carrey school, but spends just as much time trying to be a serious tale about letting go of childhood resentments and accepting mortality. The “deep” bits aren’t, despite a climactic shot in which Murphy actually frolics with his childhood self through a Terrence Malick-style dreamy field of wheat, and the parts that aim to be funny rarely succeed at that either, telegraphing their punchlines so far in advance that they don’t really need to follow through on them. Murphy’s journey into the lucrative and yet so often awful world of family-friendly comedies is one that’s been taken by plenty of comics, but he wears it worse than most, his edges sanded off and a too calculated look in his eyes as he prepares for the soggy reconciliations with which these stories always end. It doesn’t help that even the pratfalls in A Thousand Words look tired and recycled. McCall climbs a tree to rescue a cat only to have it attack him, making him fall. McCall bluffs his way to the front of a long line at Starbucks by pretending his wife’s in labor. (I realize this is really not the type of film at which to nitpick, but beyond the vaudeville-era mustiness of the gag, why would anyone believe that someone in a wild rush to the hospital would still stop for coffee?) McCall causes multiple car accidents trying to help a blind man cross the street without being able to speak to him. The central conceit in A Thousand Words is that, thanks to a deal he’s made with Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis), “the most popular nondenominational religious leader on the planet,” McCall finds that a mystical tree has suddenly grown in the backyard of his swank house of a hill. For every word he says or writes, a leaf falls off, and presumably when they’re all gone both he and the tree will die. (The tree raises some mystical copyediting issues — “dickhead” merits two leaves, but so does “sorta classy.”) McCall obviously has some issues to work through, including the usual ones of working too hard and being emotionally unavailable, factors the film links back to his dad leaving his mom (Ruby Dee) when he was young. Caroline is so upset by his apparent lack of commitment (he refuses to sell his bachelor pad in order to move them into a more child-appropriate house and neighborhood) and unwillingness to communicate (something stepped up by the arrival of the tree) that she leaves him, though not before a laugh-free scene in which she tries to reinvigorate their relationship by wearing vinyl lingerie and breaking out furry handcuffs. That sequence, like most of the other comedic set-pieces, has the feel of something that went from brainstorming board right to the screen, as the film strains its way through every possible scenario that would be awkward when you’re not supposed to talk — ordering coffee, making an international call via an operator, making a deal over the phone, having a business meeting. When the film actually stumbles on a laugh, it seems almost an accident, as when Murphy’s character, high because of pesticides (don’t ask), inserts a breadstick up Allison Janney’s nose. Murphy rolls his eyes and mugs ferociously at the camera — A Thousand Words is the miming showcase the world never asked for — but it’s Hot Tub Time Machine’s Clark Duke, playing McCall’s assistant Aaron Wiseberger, who walks away with the film’s best scene when he’s forced to fill in for his boss at a high-powered dinner during which McCall can’t speak. The only way he knows how to handle a business deal is by channelling his boss, and the entire joke is that he’s a scrawny white kid offering fist bumps and telling someone “Sit your ass down!” But it’s mostly funny because he’s trying to pull off a decent Eddie Murphy. Remember Eddie Murphy? He used to be hilarious. Follow Alison Willmore on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Amber Tamblyn ( Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants , The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret ) always seemed like a girl with moxie, and I’d guess you don’t fall in with a guy like David Cross without one wicked sense of humor, but even so the depths of awesome that she went to in pranking Tyrese Gibson deserve applause. And boy, what a prank: After receiving an e-mail from the Transformers / Fast 5 star proposing a future collaboration after he mistook her for model Amber Rose on a mutual friend’s email message, Tamblyn had some fun with the musician-actor with a series of original “Awareness Raps.” An excerpt of the exchange, as detailed at the blog Street Boners and TV Carnage : On Feb 26, 2012, at 10:16 AM, Amber Rose T wrote: lol u are so sweet boo I’ve been trying to get this album goin for so long u know how it is. Eventually Tyrese caught on to the sham and cut off the exchange; Tamblyn gave the following update on her official blog in a post entitled The Tyrese Sessions : I emailed Tyrese one last time yesterday (as myself of course) after he wrote me saying “you took this shit public?! Not cool… not even remotely…” I reiterated that yes I took advantage of a man that took adntage of another man’s cc list… but it’s all good- we should do a song together and laugh at the whole thing. He said my music was “corny as fuck” and no. Now I am 86% sorry, Tyrese. Raise your Maker’s Mark in the air for Amber (Rose) Tamblyn, everyone. Bernie Mac gets his just due. A sign bearing the name of the late comedian Bernie Mac has been raised over a street in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. About 200 people, including his widow Rhoda McCullough, daughter Je’Niece McCullough and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, gathered Tuesday on a corner near the home where he grew up. Je’Niece McCullough says she hopes renaming the street Bernie Mac Street reminds people “they can do whatever they want to do in life.” Mac, born Bernard McCullough, died in August 2008 at age 50 from pneumonia complications, after suffering from sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease. Tyra Banks has conquered both runways and television… but now she’s conquering the Ivy League!! Tyra tweeted a few pics (snapped by her very proud momma) during her graduation ceremony from Harvard today. It’s official, Ms.Banks is a certified scholar. The model mogul has finally received her MBA from Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Program (OPM). She told the Wall Street Journal back in October that as she was growing her brand, she found herself trying to put her hands into too many projects. Her time at Harvard helped her focus her energies: “Professors explained to me that focus is great. Being the biggest and having your foot in a bunch of things is not necessarily the best thing. So I came back and focused the message of my company. Harvard said to wait two weeks before you tell your staff, but I couldn’t wait. I said, ‘If it’s not about expanding the definition of beauty and making women feel physically and emotionally better about themselves, then we’re not doing it.’ My business before was based on me. But my marketing professor has taught me that it’s about customer centricity and not about me centricity. It’s about her. How do I affect that girl?” Congrats Tyra! Now that she’s done with classes, Tyra will be gearing up for Cycle 19 on “ANTM” which will be dubbed, of course, “The College Edition.” Will you be watching? Source Twitter More On Bossip!
