OK Go Recruit Fans For A Neon Parade

Band uses GPS to spell their name across the streets of Los Angeles. By Vaughn T. Schoonmaker OK Go’s Tim Nordwind and Damian Kulash Photo: MTV News Fans and friends joined OK Go on Wednesday for a very unique video shoot up and down the streets of Los Angeles. Known for their outrageous and high-concept videos, the band announced a “parade” on their website earlier in the week. OK Go and their posse spent most of Wednesday afternoon and evening “taking the rock to the streets” as they played music with the crowd on a parade around Los Angeles. Cameras followed the swarm of people all day, many of whom were equipped with noisemakers, megaphones and even some neon instruments. The street path they followed spelled out “OK Go” and, as they described on their website, the band aimed to create a “city-sized drawing” of the band name by using GPS technology along with a special iPhone App to mark the path of their journey. On location, lead singer Damian Kulash said that, after spending a weekend in New Orleans, they realized “music doesn’t need to be about the product you make all the time.” Instead, he said, “It can just be about getting together and making sound.” OK Go broke through in 2006 when they released their “Here It Goes Again” music video , in which they maneuvered through an intricately choreographed dance on treadmills. They performed the routine at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards only a few months later. From their most recent album, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, the video for “White Knuckles” is an epic piece of art on its own. The video consists of another intricately choreographed routine, this time involving a supporting cast of dogs and a goat. The parade video is expected to be finished by January. In the meantime, those who are anxious should check out the band’s most recent video for “Last Leaf,” in which they manage to turn toast into fascinating artwork. What do you think of OK Go’s parade? Jessica Alba’s Got Legs

Here’s Jessica Alba walking the streets looking her regular hot self, even if she’s not really showing off any great amount of skin she’s still looking good. Actually her little sundress is kinda short so we are getting a decent look at her long legs in those high heels of hers. I guess I’m so used to seeing all these celebrities in short shorts that this kind of thing throws me off. She’s so modest. more pictures of Jessica Alba here

Whoopi Goldberg to Ground Zero Mosque Protesters: ‘Kiss My Butt’

The View’s resident political sage Whoopi Goldberg offered her usual degree of intellectualism on Wednesaday’s show, when she told people protesting against the Ground Zero mosque to “kiss my butt” and “get out of here.” Apparently fed up with Americans voicing their collective discontent with individuals and actions they find highly offensive, Whoopi stated (video below the fold): The fact that there were protests on 9/11 really also irritated me. You know what, I don’t have time to listen to your side or your side. This is about the people that lost their lives. That’s why we’re coming together. And the fact that y’all are fighting in the streets – kiss my butt, get out of here. In a show of ostensible political neutrality, Whoopi did not single out either side of the debate, and made a point of claiming that she objected to demonstrations on both sides of the issue. But if there were no opposition to the mosque’s construction, there would be no protests in the first place. So in a sense, Whoopi was singling out and condemning Americans’s objections to this mosque. Apparently she’d rather the mosque be built, and everyone just stop complaining about it. We’ll keep her position in mind the next time the View crew weighs in on some left-wing protest.

Exclusive: Nas Talks Lost Tapes: Vol. 2

Esco says he’s focused on ‘owning the streets again’ and reveals to MTV News that hotly anticipated sequel is due December 14. By Shaheem Reid Nas Photo: C. Flanigan/ Getty Images Esco, let’s go. Nas isn’t the most prolific on Twitter, but he sent out a big blast on Wednesday (September 15), leaving a message all of his fans will love. “It’s coming… LOST TAPES VOLUME TWO!!!” Nas posted on his page @nas . The Queens native is finally following up his 2002 classic compilation, The Lost Tapes. That record was a potent mix of his tracks left on the cutting-room floor over the years. On Wednesday afternoon, MTV News got word from Nas’ camp that The Lost Tapes: Vol. 2 will be released on December 14. Speaking to us exclusively, Nas revealed he was feeling inspired these days and the Lost Tapes sequel is just a small taste of what’s to come. He’s about to hit the blocks with a barrage. “I’m unloading records I want the streets to hear,” the Queens rapper said in an e-mail. “Cleaning out my hard drives. Gonna do this, then start fresh. I’m dropping my solo LP before the summer of 2011. I love the energy the world has been giving me over the last two years. But now it’s time to focus on owning the streets again.” Just earlier this month, Nas and DJ Green Lantern put out “Last Real N—a Alive, Part 2” for the mixtapes. The vocals from that record were recorded back when Nas was making his last album, Untitled. “Cars with police radars/ On highways bopping/ Bullpen therapy/ Cell-block dodging/ Pissy stairways,” he raps. “Miss them days, not when/ They shut down stores when I’m shopping,” Nas raps over the trumpet-laden track. “Used to be pop-locking, train-hopping/ Face covered in stocking/ Six-pack Bud-drinking gambler/ F— them cameras/ In front of the man, sing the hustla’s mantra/ Hands are luck/ More hits than Gamble and Huff.” “[Nasty Nas] never left,” Nas told MTV News when the verse leaked. “I recorded the song in my hometown of New York City. I was feeling the vibe of the streets and sewers, [which] helped me get in that zone” Since the legendary MC first promised to deliver out new material, he has been back in the lab and talking to Wu-Tang Clan’s the RZA about producing tracks “Escobar is one of the best MCs to ever bless the mic,” RZA said about Nas on the VMA white carpet on Sunday. “We’re still trying to figure our schedule out. We both got a lot of big life ahead of us. But we’re getting in. We’re gonna make that classic. You know what it is. Last time, Nas did a verse for me that was on ‘Verbal Intercourse.’ That was a classic. To get back in and make another classic like that would be real good.” Are you excited for Nas’ Lost Tapes sequel? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Nas RZA

‘World Of Jenks’ Documents ‘Different Subcultures In America’

Filmmaker Andrew Jenks sleeps with the homeless, parties with rapper Maino in new series premiering Sunday night after the Video Music Awards. By Nuzhat Naoreen Andrew Jenks Photo: MTV News At 19, Andrew Jenks, star of MTV’s newest documentary series “World of Jenks,” wanted to know what it would be like to live in a nursing home. So, he packed up his bags, grabbed a few friends and moved in, capturing the entire experience along the way on film. The resulting documentary, “Room 335,” earned him tons of recognition and would serve as the basis for his new show, which premieres on September 12, right after the 2010 Video Music Awards . In the series, Jenks immerses himself into the lives of a variety of people. “I move into all these different subcultures in America and try to get an understanding of what is really going on,” said Jenks, who started making documentaries as a child living abroad in order to capture the culture around him. So far, his latest project has had him sleeping on the streets and partying with rap star Maino . “You know, we’ve done everything from living with a homeless girl in San Francisco to living with an animal rescuer in Miami, to living with a high school football star in West Texas,” said Jenks, who spends about a week with each individual. “I’ve been able to move into all different sorts of weird, funny, interesting, dynamic, unique, situations and really experience them firsthand, and been able to capture them with our cameras.” Of course, the experience hasn’t been without its challenges. Jenks has put his life on the line more than once while filming the show (he said going undercover with an animal rescuer was particularly risky) and has been attacked by bystanders who don’t appreciate being filmed. “When we moved into the streets of San Francisco, we thought the homeless kids might kind of be into it,” said Jenks. “But they hated it. They hated us. They didn’t want people filming them.” His subjects, however, such as a young autistic man who was initially cautious of letting Jenks into his life, have generally warmed to him rather quickly. “I think with a lot of the subjects, it’s a matter of showing that I sincerely care, and I do,” said Jenks, adding that he keeps in touch with the people he films. “I want to get to know who you are and what you stand for.” Jenks will be at the VMAs on Sunday, but said his mind will be elsewhere. “I think I’ll be kind of jittery and waiting for the episode to air,” he said. Watch “World of Jenks” Sunday night at 11 p.m. ET, right after the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday. Related Artists Maino
