Mizzou Appoints African American Interim President In the week since Mizzou football players forced the University’s racist president to step down with their protest, the school has been in a state of racial turmoil and unrest — with racist threats made against the Black student body. Now, the University has put a Black man in the driver’s seat to turn the situation on campus around. Via STL Today : After Michael Middleton founded the Legion of Black Collegians, he personally delivered a list of race-related demands to the University of Missouri chancellor in 1969. Some might call it fitting, then, that he take the helm of the UM system after the student group Concerned Student 1950 handed the university its list of demands for racial inclusion and shared governance. “It is clear to me the first step is to devote attention to addressing those demands,” Middleton, 68, said Thursday at a news conference. “It is imperative to hear from all students and do everything we can to make them comfortable and safe in our community.” The University of Missouri Board of Curators tapped Middleton, the university’s first African-American law professor, to serve as interim president after the resignation of Timothy M. Wolfe earlier this week following criticism of Wolfe’s handling of a series of racist incidents. Although the University is likely doing this to put a band-aid on the national PR nightmare they have on their hands right now, the sitting president’s plan sounds like a step in the right direction. Daycare Workers Fired For Refusing Transgender Child’s Name Two daycare workers are suing on the basis of discrimination, alleging that they were fired due to their Christian faith after refusing to recognize a transgender child’s new identity. Via MailOnline : Two Christian childcare workers who were fired after refusing to call a transgender six year old by a boy’s name are suing the center for discrimination. Madeline Kirksey and Akesha Bogany Wyatt were sacked from the Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center in Katy, Texas, a week ago after the pupil, who had attended school for four months as a girl, began identifying as a boy. According to Adam Taylor, Kirksey’s lawyer, the child’s parents – both of whom are male – took their daughter home on a Friday, and sent her back to school the following Monday as a boy. Taylor says the child’s hair had been cut into a masculine style, and the formerly female student had been given a more classically masculine name. However, Kirksey and Wyatt refused to go along with the name change, and said they felt uncomfortable speaking to other young children about transgender issues. Kirksey also apparently feels that the child’s gay parents are pushing their daughter into being transgender: Kirksey added that she feels the male parents of the student are forcing the issue of gender on to their child, which she disagrees with. Taylor said: ‘Madeline’s rights have been violated. Literally she was sacrificed on the alter of political correctness. “It is not just Madeline and it is not just this school that we are concerned about. We need to send a strong message that Christians need to push back on this agenda.” We understand people holding on to their own set of beliefs…but is it really this teacher’s place to grandstand on this child’s struggle? On the other hand, it doesn’t seem necessary to fire her for being uncooperative…surely the child could have been moved to another class. FoxNews

Second Student Arrested At Spring Valley High For Recording Attack To add insult to heinous injury, the officer at Spring Valley High in South Carolina also arrested the young girl who recorded the assault for daring to speak up when she saw him brutally attack a young girl in her class. 18-year-old Niya Kenny told her local news station that she was disturbed by seeing the officer snatch her classmate out of her chair and violently toss her around like a rag doll. Niya says she cried out when the officer pinned the girl to the ground, and was immediately arrested for showing any concern over her classmate’s well-being: “I was screaming ‘What the f, what the f is this really happening?’ I was praying out loud for the girl. I just couldn’t believe this was happening I was just crying and he said, ‘since you have so much to say you are coming too.’ I just put my hands behind my back.” Well seeing what the officer thinks is an appropriate way to detain nonviolent young Black girls, complying and putting her hands behind her back seemed to be the best move in this case. Niya also shared that this officer had a reputation for violently escalating situations…to the point where he garnered the nickname “Officer Slam.” As she shared with MSNBC (starting at the 4:30 mark) : “I’ve heard about him, so I wasn’t really surprised, because I’ve heard so much about him. Before he came to the class, I was actually telling [classmates], ‘Take out your cameras because I feel like this is gonna go downhill because I’ve heard so much about him.’” “He’s known as ‘Officer Slam’ around our school,” Kenny replied. “I’ve heard he’s in the past slammed pregnant women, teenage girls. He’s known for slamming.” You have to wonder what else has been going on at this school when no cell phones were running…and why administration has been allowing it long enough for him to form a reputation. Thankfully she was able to shed some light on how they treat Black children in her schools. WTLX

Spring Valley Student Brutally Assaulted By White School Resource Officer Spring Valley High School officials and local deputies are investigating after a video supposedly taken at the high school shows a confrontation between a Black female student and the school’s resource officer . Via Live 5 News : School officials confirm the incident happened on Monday, but stopped short of releasing further details. According to Sheriff Leon Lott, the school resource officer was acting in response to a student who was refusing to leave class. “The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions which she again refused,” Lott said. “The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested by the SRO.” The video shows the officer approaching the girl sitting at a desk in a classroom. The officer grabs the girl’s arm while putting his own arm around the student’s neck. A struggle ensues, and the girl falls on the floor before being dragged away and out of the view of the camera. Parents of students at Spring Valley High School are already reacting to the video. A group calling themselves the Richland Two Black Parents Association called the video “egregious” and “unacceptable.” “Parents are heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color,” the statement said. “As we have stated in the past, we stand ready to work in collaboration to address these horrible acts of violence and inequities among our children”.
