Teenage Student Allowed To Wear Anti-Gay T-Shirt At School A Connecticut high school student who was originally told that he couldn’t wear his anti-gay t-shirt on school grounds has now been permitted to wear the shirt after the American Civil Liberties Union declared banning the shirt a violation of the student’s first amendment rights. via CBS News The American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut says officials in a school district are reversing themselves and allowing a student to wear a T-shirt with an anti-gay message. The ACLU announced Tuesday that the lawyer for the school district says Wolcott High School student Seth Groody may wear the T-shirt, which bears a slash mark through a rainbow. The other side showed a male stick figure and a female stick figure holding hands above the legend, Excessive Speech Day. The student wore the T-shirt in April 2012 which was designated as a Day of Silence at Wolcott High School as part of a national movement to raise awareness of bullying and harassment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people, reports CBS affiliate WFSB in Hartford. The ACLU says it was prepared to sue the school district. School attorney Christine Chinni wrote to the ACLU this month saying Groody may wear the T-shirt. Two Seattle 5th Graders Arrested In Murder Place Via LATimes In what has become a chillingly familiar event across the country, school authorities in eastern Washington recently discovered a gun and a knife in the backpack of a student. But what stunned the small town of Colville was whom the backpack belonged to: a 10-year-old student at Fort Colville Elementary School. School authorities said two fifth-grade boys planned to use the weapons to lure another student outside the school and kill her “because she was really annoying.” The boys last week confessed to plans to harm an additional six students at the school. “This was a plan. And it was a plan to kill,” Stevens County prosecuting attorney Timothy Rasmussen said Thursday. Rasmussen said he would argue that the 10-year-old and his 11-year-old codefendant be held criminally responsible on charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and witness tampering — a charge filed after authorities said the boys promised to pay $80 to a student if he agreed not to tell anyone about the plot. Where the hell do 10-year-olds learn to plot a murder?? According to a court affidavit made public this week, the incident came to light shortly before 8 a.m. on Feb. 7, when a fourth-grader told a teacher he had seen an 11-year-old boy with a knife. The teacher searched that boy’s backpack and that of his 10-year-old friend and found the weapons in the friend’s backpack. They included a knife with a 3¼-inch blade, a .45-caliber Remington 1911 semiautomatic handgun and an ammunition clip. Thank God for snitches. When questioned separately shortly after the weapons were discovered, the boys admitted their plot, authorities said. “I was going to kill her with the knife and [the other boy] was supposed to use the gun to keep anyone from trying to stop me or mess up our plan,” the older boy told detectives. When shown a class list, the boy identified six other classmates who were targeted. The older boy said he had been friends with the girl for several months “but that he hated her now.” He said the girl “had recently become rude and would pick on him.” “The plan was nipped in the bud by other students who saw something and said something,” Cashion said, adding that the school had been promoting a program that encourages students to report suspicious things. The Transportation Security Administration don’t play that Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Involved In TSA Security Investigation According to TMZ reports : Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are at the center of a TSA investigation following a major security violation at JFK yesterday … but the TSA tells TMZ Kimye is NOT to blame. We’ve learned … K&K had taken a flight from Brazil to JFK on Tuesday, where the plan was to catch a connecting flight to Los Angeles. But once they landed in NY, the couple met up with an airline greeter … who, according to the TSA, allowed them to bypass a key security checkpoint to get them to their next flight as quickly as possible. After Kim and Kanye took their seats on the L.A.-bound plane … a TSA agent yanked them off the flight … and made K&K go through another layer of security. We’re told the plane was delayed for roughly an hour while the couple was screened by TSA agents. TSA claims that KimYe was not at fault for the security breach. “An airline employee escorted the two travelers through a non-public area in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight.” “In doing so, the airline employee violated security protocols by permitting the travelers to by-pass the TSA security checkpoint. TSA officials learned of the violation and conducted a private screening of the two passengers in the area of the jetway.” “The passengers were cleared to board their flight, which departed after a delay of approximately 50 minutes. TSA is actively investigating the incident.” The couple ultimately touched down in L.A. … where they were greeted by a gaggle of paparazzi … but seemed incredibly calm considering all they had been through. Gay White Student Examines Similarities Between Struggles With Racism And Homophobia A gay white male student recently shared his thoughts on the similarities between being a black person dealing with racism and being a gay white person dealing with homophobia. via Huffington Post Mainstream gay culture privileges the white narrative, and it does so at the expense of its own legitimacy. As Baldwin understands and so eloquently states, the fight against homophobia and racism are undoubtedly entwined through their shared struggle for human dignity. However, conflating the two does discernible harm, both to those persons of color who are repeatedly forgotten in progressive social movements, and to white LGBTQ persons who tarnish their own humanity by forgetting the humanity of others. In one of the most interesting excerpts from the piece, the student examines Baldwin’s point that white gay citizens often feel slighted because society teaches them that they are entitled to ‘white privelege’ and therefore supposed to be protected from bias and hatred. Baldwin explains that white LGBTQ men and women feel slighted precisely because they know that had they been straight, they would have been heirs to incomparable privilege. In a 1984 interview with Richard Goldstein, then the editor of the Village Voice, Baldwin said, “I think white gay people feel cheated because they were born, in principle, in a society in which they were supposed to be safe. The anomaly of their sexuality puts them in danger, unexpectedly.” He went on to say: Their reaction seems to me in direct proportion to their sense of feeling cheated of the advantages which accrue to white people in a white society. There’s an element, it has always seemed to me, of bewilderment and complaint. Now that may sound very harsh, but the gay world as such is no more prepared to accept black people than anywhere else in society. He concludes the write up with the thought that although strides are being made with gay rights, they will never be the same as the struggles with racism. As we celebrate Black History Month this February, and as we await the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality, we must remember that the struggle to restore dignity to people is not finished. The work to ensure that all people have access to fair and equitable employment, health care and proper medical attention and aren’t targets for violence by the police or their fellow community members must continue even after gays and lesbians are granted the right to marry the persons they love. This is not a new civil rights movement as some have said but a different one. Baldwin’s legacy teaches me, as a white person and an LGBTQ activist, that gay will never be the new black, and that the fight for racial equality is far from over.

The Senator’s remarks were somewhat overshadowed, however, by the fact that at one point, he was seen awkwardly reaching for water in mid-speech. Enough said. “I needed water, what am I going to do?” Rubio joked on Good Morning America Wednesday. “God has a funny way of reminding us we’re human.” On policy, Rubio didn’t embarrass himself in the least, compellingly talking about his working-class roots, his student loans, and his modest bedroom community. The 41-year-old Cuban-American rehashed familiar anti-Obama talking points about big government vs. free enterprise, and tax hikes vs. spending cuts. One interesting omission was the fact that he barely talked about immigration, a complex issue he has been extremely vocal about in the recent past. The young Republican has long been talked about as a possible presidential candidate in 2016; his name was floated as a V.P. candidate in 2012.
Disgraced porn star teacher Stacie Halas, a.k.a. Tiffany Six, has apparently lost her bid to reclaim her job after being fired from her job at a California middle school. Halas had hoped not just to get her science teacher job back, but to set a precedent for people looking to escape an embarrassing personal history. No dice. A three-judge commission put a stop to both, saying firmly and unanimously that Stacie Halas should not be teaching in the classroom. “We were hoping we could show you could overcome your past,” Halas’ lawyer Richard Schwab said. “I think she’s representative of a lot of people.” Despite Schwab’s (true) claim that Halas’ past “does not involve anything illegal or anything that hurts anybody,” Judge Julie Cabos-Owen sided against her. Such a past matters, she ruled, in an age when technology makes porn easy to access and hard to bury , and the Internet will continue to impede her. “Although her pornography career has concluded,” the porn past inhibits her ability to be both an “effective teacher and respected colleague,” Cabos-Owen said. Stacie Halas, 32, was continually deceitful about her nine-month career in adult films before she went to work at the school, the judges also noted. Schwab said Halas “attempted to be honest and forthright, but was embarrassed and humiliated by her past experience in the adult industry.” Halas was fired in April from Haydock Intermediate School in Oxnard after online videos of her in porn were discovered by students and teachers. Student claims that the teacher was moonlighting as a porn star were initially dismissed after school officials said they couldn’t find any images of her. However, they were using the school’s computers, which don’t allow access to porn; downloads of Halas’ sex videos from smartphones outed her.
