If you watch Counting On online , then you're probably familiar with the three central tenets of the Duggar family: 1. Women are put on this planet for the sole purpose of making babies. 2. Sex is an invention of the Devil, and a sadly necessary part of the procreation process. 3. The best way for women to ensure they don't inspire any impure thoughts in men is to wrap themselves in an excessive amount of fabric at all times. But despite the Duggars', um … somewhat conservative views on sex and fashion, the the first ladies of Tontitown sometimes let loose with styles that would curl the beard of the most godly elder in Amish Country. See what we mean in the gallery below: 1. Joy-Anna Shows Some Knee The Duggar gals typically favor floor-length skirts, but as you can see, Joy-Anna’s denim seems to stop just above the knee in this photo. Scandalous! 2. Ankles Ahoy! It’s more calves than a cattle ranch as the Duggar ladies line up on what we can only assume was a blisteringly hot day. It’s almosy enough to distract us from our questions about what might be living inside Derick’s beard. Almost. 3. Jill at Jessa’s Wedding Did somebody say bare shoulders? Okay, not quite “bare,” but with the almost flesh-colored fabric that Jessa Duggar chose for her bridesmaids dresses, you could’ve fooled us at 40 paces! 4. The Swimsuit Issue Speaking of almost bare-shoulders, here’s Jill at the beach in El Salvador. The t-shirt pic protects you from both sunburn and unwittingly arousing the locals. 5. Jessa and Ben Poolside As you can see, t-shirts seem to be the only approved swimwear. We’re actually okay with that. We’re fans of normalizing shirts-as-swimwear for reasons that have nothing to do with our lack of six-pack abs. 6. Jinger Duggar: Fashion Rebel Ever since she married Jeremy Vuolo, Jinger Duggar has started wearing shorts. Shorts, people! We might officially be living in the Upside Down. View Slideshow
Sometimes, you read something that a celebrity said or did and you say that it kills your faith in humanity … but really, celebrities aren't usually representative of the average person. This story, however, might crush your faith in humanity … and in this next generation of young people. Just a little. Because the heinous video that went viral, which we have below, was made by teenagers . (Of course, it was also brought to light and condemned by teenagers before anyone else got involved, so … keep that in mind) It is sadly not new information that racism is alive and well in the United States of America. If you were somehow able to ignore that before, the last couple of years have made it truly impossible to miss. Hate crimes have spiked, and we've seen Nazis marching on American streets more than once this year. A particularly infamous Nazi, Richard Spencer, is speaking in Florida this afternoon, and everyone in the local community is afraid of what might happen if his supporters show up and go after his protesters. Some worry that, some time tonight, Florida could see its very own Charlottesville. Hopefully not, but the fact that people are worried about it at all tells you a lot about how prevalent and emboldened racists are feeling now in 2017. MWhile many racists — Nazis and others — come to feel that way because they feel marginalized or threatened that other people exist and have decided to blame their own shortcomings on, for example, people of color. Others are taught racism — not just institutional and cultural racism that we all have to unlearn — but explicit, unapologetic racism from a young age. These people tend to grow up thinking that everyone's family “talks like that” behind closed doors. (Then, thinking that everyone thinks and acts the way that they do, they assume that “political correctness” and not common decency is responsible for racists getting shamed) We don't know if these girls all learned it at home, but a group of teenage cheerleaders made a very, very disturbing video. A group of Ogden Weber High School cheerleaders appeared to be gleefully chanting a racial slur in a bizarre, soul-crushing video. The Utah school district is investigating after the video surfaced on Twitter and gained a lot of attention. The girls appear to be saying (and we say “appear to” for good reason) “f–k” followed by the N-word. Gleefully, they yell again and again and again into the camera. Yes, they recorded this themselves. It's widely believed that the video is a reversal of what they may have been originally chanting: “Serggin Cuff.” “Serggin Cuff” might sound like the name of a Star Wars character, but unfortunately it's meaning is not nearly so whimsical. Pronounced backwards, “cuff” sounds like “f–k” and “serggin” sounds like the N-word. While someone could conceivably be tricked into saying or even repeating that word on video, which could then be reversed in order to defame the poor dupe … that wouldn't explain their glee as they chant it. The video was shared privately at first, but then discovered and posted to Twitter by an understandably distraught black Weber High student. Along with the video, he included this message: “I thought people were better than this especially my so called ‘friends.’” Outrageously, he has reportedly been contacted by the families of the girls shouting slurs in the video, who are said to have demanded that he apologize for posting the video. That is … well, that tells you about what sorts of families that at least some of these girls come from, doesn't it? While this video was reportedly recorded some time ago before being circulated around the student body. Lane Findlay, spokesperson for the school district, has spoken about the video. “Right now the focus is on the investigation and trying to answer all the questions that have come up.” Findlay's initial response, mentioning that the video was old and that it had not been recorded on school grounds, did not receive a warm reception. (Schools have never before hesitated to take disciplinary action over events happening off of campus) It sounds like Findlay understands that the public needs assurances. “It’s being taken very seriously. We realize it’s affected many students at the school, but we want to be fair and thorough and ask for everyone’s patience.” While a resolution is expected to be reached early next week, the cheerleaders might receive counseling (which we'd say that they clearly need), removal from the cheerleading squad, or even expulsion. We would say that expulsion is the wrong course. One, they are teenagers and this inexcusable behavior was certainly a learned behavior. Two, more importantly, the student who posted the video on Twitter could face reprisals if they are expelled. High school students can be brilliant, but they can also be not brilliant, and they don't always have a great sense of perspective. But these girls definitely need counseling. And it would be very appropriate for them to be removed from the cheerleading squad. How they behave in the next few months could determine whether any colleges or universities will even accept them. Here is the video and be warned: obviously, the language used is absolutely monstrous.

Jessie Lorene Goline, a 25-year old art teacher from northeast Arkansas, was arrested on Wednesday due to accusations that she had inappropriate relationships with four students. By which we mean she’s accused of having SEX with four students. According to a filing in Craighead County Circuit Court, Goline has been charged with one count of first degree sexual assault. Why only one, if she presumably slept with four students? Because only one of those students was under the age of 18. An affidavit cited by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette says Goline claims that student turned out to be “way younger than what he told her,” but that is far beside the point, of course. Goline has admitted to sleeping with all four of these individuals. The reported acts took place between January and April of 2016, authorities say. The Democrat-Gazette writes that Goline would send these four unnamed teenagers text messages that grew increasingly sexual over time. One of the victims alleges that his teacher commented on his good looks in front of the class and then sent him a photograph of herself in a thong. Moreover, Goline brought two of the students back to her apartment and had sex with them in separate incidents… on the same day, it has now been confirmed. One student says he was dropped off by a friend at Goline’s residence in Jonesboro, where the two had sexual intercourse. And then another student, who was enrolled in Goline’s class, says the teacher picked him up in the afternoon and took him to her apartment… where they got it on before she took him back home to school later in the day. Forget playing hooky. This was an example of playing tonsil hockey – and then some! An investigation got underway in April after Marked Tree High School officials learned that a worried parent had threatened to “do bodily harm to one of their teachers.” The parent had accused Goline of having sex with numerous students. As officials attempted to piece together what happened and who could be to blame, Goline entered the principal’s office around this time and broke down in tears. That sort of served as a giveaway. According to Fox News, “Goline was booked into the Craighead County Detention Center Wednesday afternoon on a $5,000 bond, and was waiting for an Oct. 31 court appearance” but was released later in the day. If convicted, she could face 10 to 40 years, or life, in prison. And she’s also married. View Slideshow: 30 Teachers 2 Hot 4 Students
W ith the powerful winds of Hurricane Irma approaching Florida, some airlines are hiking ticket prices well beyond the budget of many seeking to escape the destructive storm, CBS News reports. The outlet interviewed a Vermont man, Steve McQueen , who said he spent $1,725 to fly his 87-year-old mother from Fort Myers, Florida to Charlotte, North Carolina on Thursday. He told CBS that he understands what happens with last minute ticket purchases but called the price “ghastly.” Delta Airlines was publicly shamed when a prospective customer tweeted a price change from $547.50 to $3,258.50 found on Expedia.com, NBC News reported. Since that post went viral, others reported United Airlines and American Airlines for similar price hikes. Shame on you @delta . Jacking from $547 to over $3200 for people trying to evacute responsibly? #IrmaHurricane pic.twitter.com/O2nfPHQUAh — Leigh (@LeighDow) September 5, 2017 According to CBS, price gouging related to emergencies is illegal in Florida. That rule applies to hotels, gas stations and grocery stores–but not airlines. The federal government is responsible for regulating the airline industry. Exorbitant pricing complicates evacuation arrangements for students like Antonio Mercurius , an African American studies and health science major at the University of Miami. Mercurius told the Miami Herald he felt “lucky” to have purchased his flight to the District of Columbia on Monday, before the hikes. The co-founder of the student poetry collective Speak How You Feel told reporters he was concerned about the safety of others who can’t afford the increased prices: “Why is there no emergency evacuation cost? I understand supply and demand but the laws of capitalism should not operate in the times of catastrophic danger. What happens to the people that can’t afford flights now?” After public outrage over the “laws of capitalism,” some airlines began to change their tunes and prices. JetBlue set a $99 cap for direct flights out of Florida. American Airlines set a similar cap for outgoing flights. A spokesperson for Delta Airlines announced that it would adjust prices for last-minute flights, waive change fees, and accommodate more passengers with larger planes. When being an ally goes terribly wrong… White Student Responds To Racist Flier With Her Own Version And Gets Punished A white woman and student at Southern Methodist University thought it was a good idea to counteract “ racism ” and it went terribly wrong for her. According to wfaa.com , the Dallas undergrad, Emily Walker observed fliers being passed around her campus from an unamed source that said “Why White Women SHOULDN’T date black men”. She says the flier was “full of racism” and wanted to do something about it. “I was like, ‘I’m a white woman.’ I’m going to show the author, ‘No, sorry buddy. You didn’t win.’ It hurt the black young men on our campus,” she said. Emily responded to the flier by printing 150 copies of her own titled “Why White Women Should Date Black Men” and posted all 150 copies around campus according to the report. About a week later, she was notified that she was under investigation by the University. Now Walker was issued a punishment of “probation” by the school. Meaning if she does anything else, she’s kicked to the curb. She thinks that is unfair. Walker said the university claimed her flyers added to a hostile environment on campus. Her flyer did use risqué generalizations about white men, but she says it was a satire to send a supportive message to black students. Interesting way to respond…thoughts? Getty Images
Getty Image SMH. Black Man With Glue Gun Shuts Down College Campus For 4 Hours Colgate College in upstate New York is getting a major side-eye after mistaking a black student who was carrying a glue gun for an art project as an active shooter. Colgate Alert: There is an armed person at the Coop. Find a safe space and remain indoors. If you are off-campus,stay away. — Colgate University (@colgateuniv) May 2, 2017 How, Sway??? There were no “gun shots” or wounded co-eds. Just the visual alone granted him ‘active shooter’ status, according to a student report. The university shut down the campus back on May 1st, according to Daily News reports , and sent alerts to students to vacate “the coop”. They also tweeted warnings about an armed man on campus, warning students to stay clear. After a light investigation and talking with the student, they found out that he was on his way to finish an art project. I The President of the university, Brian Casey, offered his sincere apology over the faux pas. He called the incident a “profound error” according to reports. “It is important that we understand the role that implicit racial bias had in the initial reporting of and responses to the events of (Monday) night,” the president said. “I want to make sure we speak with those who made and received the initial report to understand the role this played.”
