Former ‘American Idol’ Contestant Alex Lambert Not Homeless, Rep Says

Singer tweeted that he was living on the streets of Los Angeles. By Gil Kaufman Alex Lambert Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images On the eve of the season 10 debut of “American Idol,” one of last season’s most lovable losers has gotten himself back into the news. Perhaps you remember (though probably not) stage-fright-wracked singer Alex Lambert , the talented but nervous guitar strummer whose ouster unleashed an online petition of support from more than 13,000 fans who wanted him reinstated to the show. Well, on Monday night, Lambert posted a string of tweets in which he claimed he’d been forced to live on the streets of Los Angeles since October, when he wrapped up his stint on the reality series “If I Can Dream,” the online show he fled to after being booted from “Idol.” After chatting with some fellow fans and former “Idol” pals about his frustrations with the music biz, Lambert dropped this bombshell: “Ever since ‘IICD’ ended I’ve been kinda homeless! Sleepin on the street and behind buildings. I have a choice to stay and pursue my career or go back to texas and not do music! I’m usually a strong person but I can’t take it anymore. I’ve been goin to coffee shops and other stores so I can tweet to my snaf! Because to be honest! You guys are all I really have!” According to Entertainment Weekly, however, things are not nearly as grim as they might seem. A spokesperson for an “Idol” production company, 19 Entertainment, which manages many of the show’s contestants, confirmed that the tweets did come from Lambert but denied that the 20-year-old Texas singer is sleeping behind dumpsters. “He’s not homeless. I don’t know where that came from,” the unidentified rep told EW, explaining that there’s good reason to believe that Lambert should have the ability to pay for housing thanks to his development deal with 19. “He’s on a retainer, and he’s getting money every month,” the spokesperson said. “He’s working on demos. He’s with writers, he’s working on music. … He’s not homeless. How could he be texting? How could he be going into [the] recording studio and sleeping on the streets? There’s no record deal yet, but hopefully these demos … something could come from that.” Perhaps someone at 19 had a chat with Lambert about his down and out in Beverly Hills claims, since he updated his status on Tuesday afternoon, writing, “Sorry for the miscommunication 😉 I’m just fine! MAHALO!” And even though he claimed to be living on the streets, he asked his followers not to feel sorry for him, adding, “I know a lot of people think I tweeted my living situation for publicity! But I don’t give a damn about fame!” But then he muddied the waters again with some follow-up tweets in which he stated emphatically, “I’m real! And I don’t lie! and I would never lie to y’all! (y’all being my supporters who got my back through thick and thin) F— yeah I was … sleepin outside! That sh– sucks too! I’m goin back home to get my sh– together! But I will be back! And I’m comin strong! LETS DO THIS!” Don’t miss our “American Idol” live stream “Judging the Judges: An ‘Idol’ Without Simon,” featuring post-show analysis from Jim Cantiello and special guests, on MTV.com tonight at 10 p.m. ET. The pop diva is currently in rehearsals for the clip, set to shoot this week. And choreographer Brian Friedman couldn’t be more excited to share with fans all the hard work he and Brit are putting into the video’s smooth moves. “Just finished with @britneyspears & the dancers & I’m PUMPED!” he tweeted on Tuesday. “Day 1 was INCREDIBLE! #HIAMkills!” He previously tweeted, “Nothing beats waking up @ 7am for rehearsal! LOL not so much! Warm up dancers. … It’s Full Out! … Thrilled to get back in the studio tomorrow and Lock in ‘HIAM.’ … It’s getting closer peeps!” Friedman has said that Spears is taking some risks in this video. “This is a dance video. Rehearsals can get pretty rough,” he explained. “[It’s] the hardest dance track that she’s ever put out. … It’s infectious. The beat gets inside of you, and just when you think you know it, it takes a turn. The song, in particular, is one of my favorite songs I’ve heard off the bat. Joe Jonas ‘Really Interested’ To See ‘American Idol’ Panel

‘That’s pretty intense,’ Jonas Brother says of season 10 judging changes. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News During the ninth season of “American Idol,” when the show was going through some lineup changes, Joe Jonas sat at the judge’s table to help Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi while the fourth seat of the panel was in flux. The seat was later filled by Ellen DeGeneres, who, along with DioGuardi and Cowell, departed at the end of the season. With a new season launching Wednesday night (January 18) and two new faces (Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler) joining Jackson at the table, Jonas admitted he’s excited to see what the show has in store. “I’m really interested to see the new panel because that’s pretty intense,” he told MTV News while in the studio with producer Danja working on his solo album . “But there’s always amazing artists that come out of there, so I always like to watch the end and the very beginning ’cause it’s always really funny to watch. So I’m sure we’ll have that on in the studio.” “AI” fans are most likely just as curious as the singer, since besides the additions to the judges table, there’s also a number of new rules this season . They include the return of the “Idol” mansion, a sudden-death round that will determine the top 10 or 12, the return of a “wild card” round, as well as a Vegas audition round, to name a few. New Justin Timberlake Song ‘Take You Down’ Leaks

Club-ready tune was reportedly produced by the Neptunes. By James Dinh Justin Timberlake Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ FilmMagic Justin Timberlake has said over and over again that he’s not ready to record a new album. Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped the pop star-turned-actor from hitting the studio for collaborations with other artists and doing some recording here and there for himself. His latest musical serving to appease his hungry fans is a track called “Take You Down,” which leaked online Thursday (December 30). Timberlake opens the drum-heavy track with a summon to all the girls, before a female vocalist echoes the matching line with a series of stuttering “uh-oh’s.” The song, reportedly produced by the Neptunes, finds JT luring, tempting and somewhat challenging his female interest. “I’ve seen my magic/ What’s your looks and your religion?/ And I want you to understand that I can make you feel better/ So it’s me and you, my place, sexiness all day/ I’mma do whatever you like, if you cater to me all night, girl,” he sings during the second verse. In addition to production credits, various Internet blogs have reported that “Take You Down” may in fact be a demo as opposed to one of the 29-year-old’s own songs. Timberlake recently spoke to the Los Angeles Times about fans who feel like the star has neglected his musical calling. “They’re looking at me like, ‘Why aren’t you staying with one path?’ ” he said. “They look at me like I’m ungrateful for my music career because I want to do film.” Until JT feels ready to hit the studio to record the follow-up to 2006’s FutureSex/LoveSounds, fans will have to make do with the singer’s scarce musical ventures. His next offering may be a collaboration with Drake , who recently revealed, “I’ve always wanted to work with him, and it’s in the works right now: Me and Justin Timberlake will probably have a song soon.” What do you think of “Take You Down”? Topher Grace On The Complicated Life Of ‘Take Me Home Tonight’

The ’80s-set flick’s depiction of cocaine use was partly responsible for long release-date delay. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Topher Grace in “Take Me Home Tonight” Photo: Imagine Entertainment The inner workings of Hollywood are a perpetual mystery, particularly when film scheduling is involved. The normal filmmaking, script-to-screen process is, in a nutshell, basic: Script is written, produced, filmed, edited, promoted — and voila! It hits theaters. But as many beleaguered writers/producers/directors/actors know, things don’t always go so smoothly. Take, for example, the comedy “Take Me Home Tonight” (formerly titled “Kids in America”), which stars Topher Grace (who’s also executive producer), Ana Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer and Michelle Trachtenberg. Not exactly an indie, no-name cast, and yet the film completed principal photography in late 2006/ early 2007 and is just now getting released. When MTV News caught up with Grace recently, we asked him to take us through the producing process that finally led to its release date. “[The film came from] this idea that every generation had a film that looked about 20 years back,” Grace said, adding the fact that no one had captured the spirit of the ’80s in film without making fun of the decade. “We wanted to do something that felt like it was literally made in the ’80s. So, we brought this to a different studio, and they were very supportive when they made the film, so we’re very grateful for that.” What slowed down the process from there, Grace explained, was a hesitation from the studio with several scenes that involve cocaine use. “It tested really well,” he said. “It’s an audience film. It’s not drama, but there was a real hesitation because there is so much cocaine in it, and our feeling at the time was, ‘You can’t do a movie about Prohibition without alcohol, and you really can’t do a movie about partying in the ’80s, at the age these kids are, without showing cocaine use.” Lucky for Grace and his producing partner Gordon Kaywin, the film received new life at Imagine Entertainment, via veteran producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. “We had fun producing, but those guys are the real deal,” Grace said of Howard and Grazer. “We learned a lot from them, and they’re probably the greatest producers of our time. So, they encouraged us to not change the cut, which I thought was a really cool move.” Grace also credited Ryan Kavanaugh, the CEO of Relativity Media (the studio that is now releasing the film), with understanding and helping execute their original idea. “He understood that you can’t make a movie like ‘Dazed and Confused’ if it doesn’t have pot in it,” Grace said. “You just can’t; it doesn’t ring true. It’s not that real thing we talk about, and he and his team embraced it, and that’s the film we got to see.” The former “That ’70s Show” star said he’s thrilled with the final result. “We’re so happy with the film. It’s creatively exactly what we wanted, and it’s exactly the opposite of the normal situation where stuff gets cut,” he said. “[For us] it was the opposite: We got to put stuff back in.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Justin Bieber Working On New Music With Rascal Flatts

‘I love Rascal Flatts and I’m honored that they are making music with me,’ the pop superstar tweeted over the weekend. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty Images Sure Justin Bieber has some hip-hop swag, thanks to friendships with rappers like Diddy, Ludacris, Drake and Kanye West, but it seems that the pop superstar now is going a little bit country. Rascal Flatts lead singer Gary LeVox made one big reveal recently when he sat down to chat spoke to country radio station WSIX, according to CNN . “[Justin] asked us to do a duet with him on his next record,” LeVox explained. “It’s actually a really good song! The kid is really talented. He plays five or six different instruments really well.” On Sunday, Bieber confirmed LeVox’s statements on his Twitter while sending some praise the country band’s way. “I love @RascalFlatts and Im honored that they are making music with me,” he wrote. “And for those that dont know … they have great records like this one. #GREATMUSIC.” He then included a link to a Bieber fan video with the Rascal Flatts track “My Wish” playing in the background. Bieber also tweeted on Sunday that he was hanging out with Lil Twist, who he has been collaborating with on a mixtape for some time now. “I don’t know man,” he recently shared with MTV News about their work together. “Lil Twist is my homey and we’re working on stuff for fun.” The teen singer is indeed hard at work on new music. Last Tuesday, Bieber was spotted at Diddy’s studio in New York City working on tracks for a forthcoming album. “I’ve missed the studio. Just making music,” Bieber tweeted that day. “Made some great records tonight. What do you think about Bieber possibly going country? Tell us in the comments. Justin Bieber Co-Signs Diddy’s Album While Recording New Track

‘Everybody, if you’re anybody, you’ll go get the album,’ Bieber says of Last Train to Paris. By Jocelyn Vena Diddy and Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News On Tuesday evening, MTV News was on hand when Justin Bieber was discovered laying down tracks at Diddy’s recording studio in New York City. “In the studio getting creative,” he wrote . “Just got to show luv to my big bro @iamdiddy and his new album ‘Last Train to Paris.’ ” Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, explained to us that the pop star had an idea for a song that he needed to “get off of his chest,” and that Diddy’s studio is like a second home for the teen superstar. MTV News was spending the day with Diddy , who just released his Last Train to Paris album. Though the rap mogul hardly ever stops working himself, he jokingly complained about Bieber being too busy for him these days. “Well, I mean, you try to get in contact with me through all my partners and whatnot, but you never really got my number, so you want my number?” the 16-year-old responded. After an exchange of phone numbers, Diddy made Bieber an official member of Diddy-Dirty Money and gave him and Braun

Diddy And Justin Bieber Team Up In The Studio

MTV News’ Sway joins rap mogul, teen idol and manager Scooter Braun as Bieber records song he wrote himself. By Kelley L. Carter Diddy, Justin Bieber and MTV’s Sway Calloway Photo: Bad Boy On Tuesday (December 14), RapFix and MTV News’ Sway tagged along with Diddy as the rap mogul went on a whirlwind promotional tour through New York in support of Diddy-Dirty Money’s just-released Last Train to Paris. There were many stops along the way — New York radio station Hot 97, a scorching-hot performance of “Coming Home” on “The View” — but the part of the day that’s sure to make the girls scream is when Diddy linked up with Justin Bieber. A little before 7:30 p.m., Diddy hung out with Justin at a recording studio. They were there because the Grammy-nominated teen idol had an idea for a song and needed to “get it off of his chest,” according to Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun . Apparently, this studio is like a second home for the 16-year-old pop star. But it wasn’t all laying down tracks. Braun recalled the first time Bieber met the rap impresario (on the 2009 VMA red carpet), and Diddy gifted Bieber with a Diddy-Dirty Money jacket, declaring him an honorary group member! But that gift probably can’t top the 16th-birthday present the Diddy-Dirty frontman gave the Biebs this year. His big-deal birthday present? A $200,000 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. Before we parted ways, Scooter also dished about Bieber’s upcoming 3-D movie, “Never Say Never,” calling the MTV Films release “incredible.” Diddy and his Dirty Money ladies, Dawn Richard and Kaleena, are celebrating the release of their Last Train to Paris on Tuesday night with a Ustream party. 50 Cent Calls Michael Jackson Collabo The ‘2010 Version’ Of ‘Thriller’

Rapper reflects on ‘Monster,’ revealing that the duo did not record together. By James Dinh 50 Cent Photo: Getty Images/Jakubaszek In less than two weeks, Michael Jackson ‘s first posthumous album, Michael, will hit stores and include a string of unreleased MJ tracks. The 10-song set includes a collaboration between the iconic performer and 50 Cent . In a candid interview that appeared on MJJackson.com , 50 Cent reminiscences about how the song “Monster” came about. “I didn’t have the opportunity to physically be in Michael Jackson’s presence,” Fif said. “But my DJ, Whoo Kid, he had the opportunity to actually meet Mike, because he was interested in working with me and he said that he had something he wanted me to actually hear, a song he created. He thought it would be perfect for us to collaborate on and then he put me on the telephone.” While 50 has teamed up with a slew of artists in the past, he said the Jackson opportunity was unlike any other. “I don’t usually get nervous, because I really don’t care about a lot of the artists,” he said. “But Mike is special. He’s different. I don’t know how to explain it.” After the shocking news of Jackson’s sudden death, Fif received a call to come into the studio and perform his portion of the track. Once in the studio, the rapper worked with producer Teddy Riley (Jackson’s Dangerous ) on the song. “When I sat down and listened to the actual song, I was excited. I said, ‘This is the 2010 version of “Thriller,” ‘ ” the rapper recalled. A snippet of the track (minus 50) reportedly leaked onto the Internet just a few days ago. Despite not being able to actually record the track with Jackson, 50 Cent intended to make his mark on the song. “I missed an opportunity to be on a record not just with a great artist, but a legend,” he lamented. “So I wanted more, and I made adjustments to my cadence so I don’t sound like I sound on music that people have previously heard from me, because I’m adjusting to the production.” While not everyone has been excited about the posthumous release, Fif thinks it will be welcomed by most. “I think this album is more special,” he said. “It’ll be embraced different because it’s the last of really great material that Mike created, so I think people will want it to go in their actual collection to go in their Michael Jackson material. It’s a great example of how the art and the material will last longer than we will.” Last July, the MC told MTV News that he was inspired by a piece of artwork featuring the legendary performer for the cover of his Forever King mixtape . “When Michael Jackson passed, there was a piece of artwork that had ‘King of Pop, King of Rap’ with me and his pictures,” he said.” “That’s what gave me the concept of the artwork. There’s a real human skull that’s got diamonds embedded in it.” Are you excited to hear the 50 Cent and MJ collabo? Tell us below!
