Yes, Larry King Wants to Be Your Next Saturday Night Live Host

Saturday Night Live has been parodying Larry King poorly for years and now the 76-year-old television personality wants to get in on the action by hijacking Studio 8H for a night. In fact, King so believes that he can be the next Betty White that he skipped over the grassroots Facebook campaign and marched down to Rockefeller Center to audition in person.

J.J. Abrams Shopping Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn Project

In April, Michael Emerson thought the idea of he and Terry O’Q uinn collaborating on a new show was far fetched, but admitted, “I think [O’Quinn has] gone so far as to half-seriously discuss it with various producer types.” Well, yeah, it now appears that “various producer types” included Lost producer J.J. Abrams. Vulture is reporting that Abrams and his studio, Bad Robot, are seriously pitching the idea of the former Linus and Locke playing one-time black-operatives in what’s described as a buddy comedy. (If anyone’s listening, my vote for a title is Locke and Loaded. ) [ Vulture ]

2AM Club Hooked Up With Kanye West Producer No ID For Debut Album

L.A. band is set to release What Did You Think Was Going To Happen? in September. By Jocelyn Vena This September, L.A. outfit 2 AM Club will release their debut studio album, What Did You Think Was Going To Happen? and for it, the guys hit the studio with a number of top-grade producers including former Talking Heads member Jerry Harrison and hip-hop producer No ID , who they say helped shape one “ridiculous” track for their album. “The beginning of the No ID collaboration is he had a track [and] we did our album with an A&R guy named Peter Edge, who worked with Alicia keys and D’Angelo and has done a bunch of amazing records over the last few years,” 2 AM-er Tyler Cordy explained to MTV News. “And we just heard it one day and it was ridiculous. And it always had been there.” So, after thinking it over, the guys decided to revisit the song for the album. “And we heard it and we kind of went back months later and [were like], ‘What happened to the No ID beat?’ … So we got in the studio and hashed out this song, ‘Make You Mine.’ The track turned out ridiculous.” The guys not only hooked up with the hip-hop producer for the track, they also left sunny California to record the album in very chilly New York City. It was a refreshing change. “We had a bunch of demos written when we were leaving L.A. And then, hooking up with our team, they extended the hand [to come to NYC],” Cordy explained. “We never really lived on the East Coast, and we wrote in Brooklyn and spent a number of cold, cold winter months [there]. It gave the record two different angles.” Bandmate Marc Griffin explained that this album means the world to the group. “We’ve been writing it our whole lives,” he said. “It’s about love and heartbreak and nighttime and leaving home.” Related Artists 2AM Club No ID Kanye West

Mark Ronson Working On D’Angelo album

Producer says D’Angelo has been working ‘nonstop’ on new music. By Mawuse Ziegbe Mark Ronson Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Mark Ronson might be the key to getting some of soul music’s notoriously reclusive artists back in the studio. In addition to a June session with Amy Winehouse for her contribution to a Quincy Jones tribute album, Ronson said he’s slated to work on new material with R&B artist D’Angelo. The British producer told Billboard that he was “going into the studio … to work a bit on his record, and I have equal parts intimidation and awe and excitement.” After releasing two acclaimed albums, 1995’s Brown Sugar and Voodoo in 2000, D’Angelo has, for the most part, vanished from the scene, only occasionally dropping vocals on projects like Q-Tip’s 2008 album The Renaissance and Raphael Saadiq’s 2002 Instant Vintage LP. The singer may have shied away from the limelight in recent years, but Ronson said he’s been staying busy. “I know he’s been working nonstop. It’s not like they’ve been sitting on their asses.” Ronson also revealed that D’Angelo has been keeping up on music during his hiatus. The singer and multi-instrumentalist, who covered Smokey Robinson on his debut and boasts a repertoire that often references throwback R&B sounds, said he’s kept a pair of sonically retro albums in rotation. “I was pretty much floored when D said that the only two records of the past five to six years that he really listened to a lot were St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley and [Amy Winehouse’s] Back to Black, ‘ ” said Ronson, who crafted Winehouse’s 2007 hit album. “I was like, ‘I cannot believe I made something that this guy listened to over and over again and looked to for inspiration.’ ” Are you looking forward to a new D’Angelo album? T.I., Chris Brown Talk Possible ‘Takers’ Prequel

‘There are definitely whispers around the studio about that,’ Tip tells MTV News of the heist flick. By Shaheem Reid T.I. in “Takers” Photo: Columbia Pictures The advance hype for the action-thriller “Takers” will be answered on Friday when the ensemble-powered picture opens in theaters. But the early reaction from fans during preliminary screenings of the movie this summer has been so positive, that a follow-up is already being discussed among the castmembers and the film studio. And if the Takers do get a green light for another adventure, it looks like it would be a prequel rather than a sequel. “There are definitely whispers around the studio about that,” T.I., a star of and producer on the movie, told MTV News recently in LA. “Some phone calls have been made about that. But ultimately, it depends on what happens on August the 27th.”

Timbaland Denies Reports That He Contemplated Suicide

‘Only thing I did was take a drive and figure out how I’m gonna handle it,’ rapper says about his actions after being robbed. By Shaheem Reid Timbaland Photo: Theo Ward/ Getty Images Timbaland says that there is no way he was thinking about committing suicide. The super-producer called in to Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning and denied the TMZ report that he was contemplating suicide after a $2 million watch was stolen from his Malibu house. “People steal from me all the time,” Tim told Seacrest. “Something did happen. That wasn’t a watch. It was something else.” Tim also said that he suspected somebody close to him had stolen from him and he left his home to think. “Only thing I did was take a drive and figure out how I’m gonna handle it,” he explained. “I wasn’t talking, so I guess people got worried. I tell people if my mom ain’t calling or my brothers or my best friend, ain’t nothing to talk about. … Now why would I commit suicide? I could buy what was stolen.” The Malibu/ Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station weighed in on the subject. Police say they had received a call from “distraught family members,” and according to a police report, “His wife, mother, mother-in-law and other friends had been trying to find him but that proved unsuccessful so they called for the assistance of the Sheriff’s Department.” A missing persons report was apparently filled out yesterday. A police helicopter located Tim a short while later and the hitmaker returned home, the report also says. Tim did leave his crib later and spent all night in a recording studio. The platinum king told Seacrest he had just come out of the lab, where he was finishing up Keri Hilson’s new album. He said fans can expect a couple of singles from it in the next couple of days. “I just got back from the studio,” Tim said. “I don’t know if a person who’s going to commit suicide would be in the studio.” Related Artists Timbaland

Katy Perry Lets The Hipster Girls Out

I don’t really give a crap that Katy Perry appeared on Dave Letterman’s show last night, my pint was pretty full by the time that garbage aired, but I am glad to see that she brought along her hot hipster boobies. Here are the girls hanging out, literally, outside the studio in a sexy tight 1980’s hooker dress. Seriously, if any of you used to watch Night Court you’d know what I’m talking about. Dan Fielding would have his hand all over these things.

Swizz Beatz Says ‘Pressure Was On’ For Kanye ‘Power’ Remix

‘When he made that announcement, we didn’t have what we had,’ Swizz reveals of ‘Ye’s on-air promise. By Jayson Rodriguez Swizz Beatz Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage Kanye West’s “Power” remix had just as much manpower on the record — ‘Ye, Jay-Z, John Legend, Swizz Beatz — as it did behind the scenes. According to Swizz Beatz, the studio sessions that ultimately led to the production of the number featured not only the aforementioned artists, but also input from Q-Tip, Mos Def and the Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams. “Just multiple combinations,” Swizz told MTV News on Monday (August 23). The MCs and producers were all working on each other’s albums as the “Power” remix was being put together. The pressure was on Kanye to deliver after the rapper announced in an interview with Angie Martinez on August 11 that a remix of “Power” featuring Jay-Z would be delivered by that Friday, August 13. “He definitely, definitely was focused,” Swizz said. ” ‘Cause when he made that announcement, we didn’t have what we had. But you know when something feels right and it’s time to let something to go. ” ‘Ye was trying to put it out the best way possible, to give it to the people,” Swizz explained of the delay that followed; the remix arrived a bit later than what Yeezy promised. “And then the day before, the last day, before the remix dropped, it just felt like the song needed to change up. I heard it changing up on something different, something that was already on the beat. And I was trying to explain it, but I didn’t want to go in too much because [Kanye] was writing his verse. But it sparked an idea.” Once work on the track was complete, though, there was little if any lag time from the studio to the airwaves. Swizz said that after they finished the three-part remix — one part Jay and ‘Ye ; one part a solo ‘Ye over slower music; and the third, Swizz’s contribution featuring Snap’s “I’ve Got the Power” — Funkmaster Flex had premiered the track on NY radio station Hot 97, before Swizz had even made it home from the studio.
