Yelawolf Says Gucci Mane Made ‘Wanna Party’ ‘Incredible’

The Trunk Muzik MC also teases ‘crazy house-party’ concept for upcoming video, heavy on kegs, DJs and girls. By Steven Roberts Yelawolf Photo: MTV News When Yelawolf’s “Wanna Party,” featuring Gucci Mane dropped, something about it made sense. Maybe it was that there were so many parallels between the rappers’ careers. Gucci proudly reps East Atlanta, but he and Yela are both Alabama-born. Both have grinded for years on the underground and the two rappers aren’t afraid to experiment with music. It turns out that it’s no coincidence that the track just sounds right: They clicked when it came time to record the song. “It was dope. With as many features as I’ve done, I have yet to work with the artist in the studio, with all of them except for Travis [Barker],” Yela said. “Actually bringing [Gucci] to the studio and getting in the booth with him on some real old-school hip-hop sh–, sharing one mic, it was dope, man. That’s the best vibe to me. Being that he’s from Alabama just makes it extra special.” Yela said Gucci was perfect for the record. While he has collaborated with the likes of Gucci, Big Boi and Raekwon, he said that he and his team only reached out to the artist they thought would make the best fit. “We go get Raekwon for ‘I Wish,’ because we felt like Rae fit ‘I Wish.’ We don’t reach out and go get features based on who they are, how big they are,” Yela explained. “We got Gucci because Gucci is dope. We’re huge fans and he made the record incredible.” He said that the two already shot a video for “Wanna Party” directed by Motion Family. It will have the same eerie vibe as his video for “Pop the Trunk.” But instead of trunks popping to reveal loaded shotguns, this time it’s just a sweaty, country-ass party. “We came up with the concept like ‘Let’s just roll tape. Let’s throw a crazy house-party and just roll tape.’ And that’s what we did. We called everybody we knew. Got kegs, got a bunch of beer, a bunch of DJs, some crazy white girls for the ‘go white girl’ line. They did go crazy by the way.” “Wanna Party” is the first single from Yelawolf’s major label debut, Trunk Muzik: 0 to 60, which is set to drop September 4. Yela called the LP a continuation of his last mixtape, Trunk Muzik, with 808s, grooves and music for your trunk speakers. The album will feature five fan-favorite tracks from the tape along with seven new tracks, including “Billy Crystal Meth,” produced by Jim Jonsin. Yela will also be featured in Big Boi’s new video for the Andre 3000-produced “You Ain’t No DJ.” Who else would you like to see Yelawolf get in the studio with? Tell us in the comments! Your Bad Guys Will No Longer Be British

In America, we both admire and fear British actors: On the one hand, we give them all our Oscars, but on the other, we constantly make them play villains. Now, in news that will either make Alan Rickman very happy or cause him to file a panic-stricken unemployment application, Paramount is resolving to cast actors with more indeterminate accents in the studio’s bad guy roles. Tommy Wiseau, now is your moment. [ New Zealand Herald via MCN ]

Rick Ross Talks T.I., Jadakiss, Erykah Badu Collabos

‘The time was right,’ Ross says of Tip lacing ‘Maybach Music III.’ By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Earlier this week, Erykah Badu released a video for the remix of “Window Seat” that features Rick Ross. That collaboration led to the singer appearing on Ross’ song “Maybach Music III,” which appears on his acclaimed new album Teflon Don . “She never really collaborated with a lot of artists outside of Outkast,” Ross explained. “Maybe another artist or two, [like] the Roots. It was always conscious music she was making. You know, a gritty street artist — that’s always a plus when you get to work with somebody with the flowers around them and [they’re] burning incense. And it’s positive.” Ross was a longtime admirer of Badu’s work, which made the idea of working with her intriguing. “Her music always attracted me; it was always attractive to my kind of music,” he said. “Once we collaborated with the ‘Window Seat’ remix … the lanes of communication was open, I was like, ‘Let’s do something different.’ ” The track, which was produced by the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, also features T.I. and Jadakiss. “I felt the time was right for me and T.I. [to work together],” the Bawse explained. “We had never personally collaborated with each other on a record one on one. Early on in my career, I had said [negative] things when I didn’t know him. Just us being bosses and us being leaders and us being examples, we bossed up. We both did. He came from home doing what he did. I did my thing.” But as time passed, the animosity waned, and Ross asked Tip to collaborate. “Just on a mutual respect for each other, I reached out to him. When I got that verse back, I was like, ‘He meant that.’ We had been seeing each other over a period of time, saluting each other, bumping into each other, he knew I was a fan of his. We captured that moment in time which was one of the dopest records. And that meant the most to me. I used to play that T.I. verse in my studio, like, ‘This set the tone, right here. It set the tone.’ It just felt good for the homie to lace me. I salute Tip.” Ross brought Jadakiss, a longtime friend, on “Maybach” as well. “Jada was always that New York underdog,” he said. “That next lyricist. You could be the hottest at the time, but if you slippin’, Jada is one record away. He’s a cool dude, somebody I got a mutual respect and a friendship with.” This week, Ross released a new track online, “Summer’s Mine,” where he takes aim at his competition. “Bitch I run the south/ I’m what you wanna be,” he raps. “This how you wanna live/ This what you wanna drive/ Be honest with yourself/ I’m who you idolize.” What do you think of Ross’ “Maybach Music III”? Kanye West Ropes In Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Swizz Beatz, Others for ‘Power’ Remix

‘I might have to put out 5 albums this year … My spirit is full ,’ Kanye tweeted. By Gil Kaufman Kanye West Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images Now that Kanye West is back on his grind, the LV Don appears determined to push harder than ever to produce unique music. Case in point: Over the past five days, in addition to performing at an intimate club show on Thursday, where he covered songs by Rihanna and Billy Joel and was joined by Estelle, Yeezy hit the studio to work on a remix of “Power” with an all-star cast. Given his new status as the Titan of Twitter, he, of course, tweeted about the progress of the sessions. “Scheduled studio visits 2day, Nikki [Minaj], John Legend, Mos Def, Swizz Beatz, Pusha T, Phillip Lim,” he wrote of a remix session that roped in everyone from the newlywed producer he has called one of the greatest of all time ( Beatz ), to Clipse member T and piano man Legend, who tickled the ivories for ‘Ye at Thursday night’s show. He likened the sessions to the all-star power summits of the early jazz era, writing, “remember jazz musicians used to collab and do 4 song albums or James Brown used to just keep dropping sh– back to back.” In that spirit, West added, “I might have to put out 5 albums this year … My spirit is full … My heart is open … People want new music … I can’t hold it back.” And that wasn’t all. He uploaded a photo from the studio that featured him with Beatz and Def, as well as another pal who knows a thing or two about harnessing the power: Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. “Kobe helped me finish my #POWER remix verse … Just building on the concept of #POWE… and Mos helped me find the ‘old me’ lyrically,” he explained early Sunday morning. After a “super late” night in the lab with Mos that lasted early into Sunday morning, West said he was feeling so inspired that he actually had to unplug himself before he laid down the longest verse in rap history. “I had to cut my POWER remix verse short to not over do it with the million bar verse like the 2nd verse of ‘See Me Now,’ ” he wrote. “There’s so many ways to break down the subject of power … me and Kobe went in on it… Perfect person to help out on that.” In addition to teasing a possible Justin Bieber/Raekwon collabo , throwing out some random props to M.I.A., Matt & Kim, and Fiona Apple, and taking a break to go jogging (in Lanvin gear, of course), ‘Ye ended what sounded like a sleepless weekend on a creative and emotional high. “Sometimes I can’t control my excitement,” he wrote Sunday afternoon. “So happy … so creative … in the studio … ready to create … finished ‘Power’ verse … more music.” And, in keeping with his status as the new pied piper poet of Twitter, ‘Ye — who will appear at this year’s MTV VMAs on September 12 — wrapped the creative marathon with an early morning tweet on Monday that summed up his new philosophy: “I’m just tryna keep it symmetrical.” Right. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners in general categories, including Best New Artist, from Tuesday (August 3) through September 12. Cam’ron Says Reunited Diplomats Have ‘Eight, Nine Songs Done’

But they’re all focusing on their own projects as well, including Cam’s Gunz and Butta with Vado. By Shaheem Reid Cam’ron of The Diplomats Photo: MTV News While Cam’ron says the Diplomats haven’t yet found a label home for their reunion album, they’re still working together and have almost 10 new songs in the can. “It’s a few people that’s been getting at us, but the money’s not really where we want it to be,” Killa Cam told MTV News about label negotiations. “So we’d rather distribute it ourselves until somebody comes with the right amount of money. Jim is using the ‘Salute’ record as his single, so we’ll build off of that. But basically, with the Diplomat thing, everybody is gonna do it, but we got obligations.” Cam’ron was also quick to point out that everyone is on speaking terms, but they all have records they’re working on outside of the Dipset project as well. “Jim got his album he definitely gotta turn in,” he said. “[Me and Vado] got this Gunz and Butta thing. Juelz is putting his album together. Nobody wants to stop where they already have contracts and obligations, but we working too. We got eight, nine songs done.” Cam, Juelz, Freekey Zekey and Jim Jones recently released the song “Salute.” Cam said Jones spearheaded their first song together in years. “Jim’s got a good work ethic too. His work ethic is crazy,” Cam explained. “He’s in the studio all the time. I’m in the studio. The producer AraabMuzik is signed to DukeDaGod. Araab went and took Jim some beats. I already had the beat [for ‘Salute’]. Jim said, ‘Let’s do something to this.’ We got it done. “It wasn’t no big story behind it,” Cam added. “He sent me the record, I did it. He went to Juelz’s studio, I knocked it out. Jim comes by my crib where the studio at. We sit down for two, three hours, and we go in the basement and knock the songs out. I’m not gonna sit here and act like some spaceship landed or a boat docked. Jim comes by the house, we go in the basement, we smoke, do the song, that’s it. We go back in another two, three days and do the same thing.” While there’s no concrete date for the Diplomats album, Killa says his and Vado’s LP Gunz and Butta should be out around September 28, with a mixtape from the two dropping first. On the album’s cover, you see Cam and Vado dressed in suits, standing in a boardroom with the New York skyline behind them. “At the end of the day, we just hanging on the block, so you see we dressed like whatever,” Cam said of the Gunz and Butta cover. “When it’s time to get corporate, we’ll throw on that suit and tie and go to the penthouse, have a roundtable meeting. We know how to balance the beam. We know how to get street, but we know how to get cleaned up also. That’s why we named the album Gunz and Butta, just to let you know: We know our balance.” Are you looking forward to new Diplomats music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists The Diplomats

Rick Ross Reveals Hype Williams Will Direct ‘Live Fast, Die Young’ Video

A day after Teflon Don drops, Ross is already back in the studio making new music. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News On Tuesday, Rick Ross celebrated the release of his Teflon Don album with an in-store signing at a Best Buy in Miami and, late, late into the night, a monster bash at the King of Diamonds strip club. The Bawse arrived in style, landing in the parking lot in a helicopter while friends, such as DJ Khaled, waited with his Maybach Music Group artists, including Masspike Miles. When the new-era Rick the Ruler was in New York earlier this week at MTV’s offices, he said he was already recording new material. “I think this go-round was a lot different,” he said about the process of Teflon Don. “I isolated myself from the nonsense and really focused on the music. It’s like my vision was so clear. Just two weeks ago, I was in the studio, and I did seven records that could potentially be more potent than the Albert Anastasia music was. I’m just getting better. The more I go into my craft, the better I get. I’m listening to the choruses I’m writing, the things I’m trying. Maybe it might be because I own four studios now. That might be it. I just got in the studio, with the Olympicks, Lex Luger, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. I feel I had so much more to say.” While Ross didn’t exactly reveal where these new songs would land, he hinted that they might find their way on the new Triple C’s LP Color, Cut & Clarity. “You see, I got my brothers Triple C’s with me. Expect some new music real soon,” he said. Ross hasn’t lost focus of his current album, however. He and Kanye West are shooting a video for the single “Live Fast, Die Young” soon. Originally, Ross floated the idea of Spike Lee directing , but he informed us that they have settled on another great. “Yeah, the homie Yeezy, we decided on Hype Williams. Hype Williams will direct ‘Live Fast, Die Young,” he revealed. “Hit me up on Twitter @rickyrozay, and the reason I say that, I tweeted a picture of me and the homie Spike Lee. He came to my birthday party. I was brainstorming, like, ‘We need that different vibe.’ I tweeted a picture with me and the homie Spike. Ultimately, Hype will direct it. But look for Spike to do a Rozay video. I’mma be the first since [Public Enemy’s] ‘Fight the Power’ and the other great [videos he directed back in the day].” Are you looking forward to new music from Rick Ross? New Lawsuit Alleges Drugs, Sex and Homophobia on House Set

You wouldn’t peg the set of House to be some Caligula-like bacchanal, but a new lawsuit alleges that it was a feeding ground for sex, drugs, homophobic remarks and even knife-throwing. The former crew member bringing the lawsuit forth says he was called derogatory names — think gay slurs — and eventually fired because he wouldn’t participate in any of the “degenerate conduct.” Universal — the studio that produces House — had no comment. Flo Rida Records Unofficial Miami Heat Anthem

Inspired by LeBron James’ arrival, the Florida MC says he hopes ‘We Already Won’ will ‘get the city hype.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Flo Rida in the studio recording “We Already Won” Photo: Peter Bailey/Andy Boy Genius/Niteside/NBC Miami Heat fans have been celebrating ever since NBA phenom LeBron James announced his move to the Florida team last week. (After ‘Bron made his announcement, Miami’s DJ Irie described the mania in the city in an email to MTV News: “Miami is literally in a frenzy right now! Leftover fireworks from the Fourth of July are going off left and right.”) Now, one of the state’s hitmaking stars has hit the studio to record a track to help Heat fans get their party on. Flo Rida jumped in the lab to make “We Already Won,” a banger that he dubs an unofficial anthem for the Miami Heat. Flo broke down the creation of the song to NBC Miami’s Niteside blog . “Being a part of the Poe Boy family, we always trying to do something to get the city hype,” Flo said. “So I called my colleagues Billy Blue, Brianna, Desloc [Piccalo], Ball Greezy, Brisco. We just trying to build up the morale of Dade County. Having LeBron come in, having [Chris] Bosh come in, we think that’s a great thing. So we just got in the studio and did what we always do — go in there and make a great record.” The Florida rapper, who’s broken chart records with party-starting hits like “Right Round,” also chopped it up for the blog about his next album, which he’s expecting to drop in the fall. Flo talked to MTV News last month about crafting the David Guetta-produced jam “Club Can’t Handle Me,” which will be featured on the LP, as well as the “Step Up 3-D” soundtrack. “It’s called The Only One,” Flo told NBC Miami, adding that the buzz surrounding the Heat’s new lineup is inspiring his latest effort. “It definitely feels special for the fact that we got LeBron and this crazy team, you know, [Dwyane] Wade and everybody.” Who else would you like to hear take a stab at a Miami Heat anthem?
