Which Piece Of Gym Equipment Has 362 Times More Germs Than A Toilet?

…The website Fitrated.com enlisted EmLab P&K to swab almost 30 pieces of equipment at three different gym facilities that are national chains in an effort to find out just how many germs our go-to gear really holds. What they found was, just as you thought, you should probably wipe down the equipment before you use it due to an abundance of gram-positive cocci and other serious bacteria. Treadmills at the three facilities they checked out had 74 times more bacteria than a public water faucet does. That exercise bike people sit on for extended periods of time? Thirty-nine times more bacteria than the reusable plastic cafeteria lunch trays. But the dirtiest equipment of all? The free weights. They have 362 times more bacteria than the toilet you sit your behind on… [ MadameNoire ] Study: Most Couples Use Smartphones For Wedding Planning …According to results from The Knot’s 2015 Real Weddings Survey, mobile wedding planning is on the rise. Guess Which State? Man Busted For Bigamy After 3rd Wife Changed Her Name To Mrs. Rembert

Florida Man Arrested For Marrying Three Women Facebook gets ‘em every time ! A Florida man named Steven Rembert was caught MARRYING another woman behind his second wife , Frances Rembert’s back after Takesha Stephens, a woman she’d once treated like her daughter, changed her name on Facebook to Mrs. Rembert. According to Orlando Sentinel reports, it all started to go downhill for the 43-year-old Mr. Rembert when his second wife alerted deputies to the situation: Orange County deputies started looking into the claims and realized that it wasn’t the first time Rembert had started a new marriage without legally ending the previous one. He married three times in Orange County during the past 15 years. In March 2006, he married Evondria Marshay Bryan-Rembert, records state. About five years later in May 2011, he married Frances Rembert. Nearly five years after that, records show he married Takesha Stephens. Deputies said there is no record of Rembert ever divorcing either of the first two women. Frances Rembert told deputies she and her husband split in April after she fell ill and was hospitalized for an unknown amount of time. When she returned home, Rembert wasn’t as friendly or caring toward her, so she moved out, the arrest report states. Not long after that, she said she found out Rembert had started dating Stephens, who was known to their family and lived with them for years. The 27-year-old was treated “as though she was their daughter,” the report states. Frances Rembert didn’t say anything about their relationship until a friend pointed out that Stephens had changed her name on Facebook to “Mrs. Rembert.” Deputies on Wednesday arrested Rembert, who has been a registered sex offender since 2000 after being convicted by the U.S. military on charges of sodomy and sex with a child under 16 years old, records show. Rembert has since posted bail… We are so confused about how this man got one woman to marry him, much less THREE!!! He’s a registered sex offender who ain’t exactly easy on the eyes from the looks of the mugshot. Orange County Jail

All That Positive Thinking You’re Doing Is Making You More Depressed

…For many, thinking positive is an optimistic mindset sustained by positive affirmations and the general attitude that everything happens for a reason, even if that thing isn’t particularly pleasant. For others, positive thinking is a fantasy land of unrealistic goals and desires, often not backed by any real action, and it’s that type of thinking that can make you even more depressed about your current state of affairs, so says research recently published in Psychological Science. In four different studies, researchers had participants from school-aged children to adults fantasize about some aspect of the future and measured their state of mind at the time of the thinking and in a later meeting. Immediately, positive thinking about some sort of fantasy in the future relieved symptoms of depression, but in follow-up sessions the participants were actually more depressed. Gabriele Oettingen, PhD, lead author of the study, said the reason is: “These positive fantasies relax us and de-energize us. We feel accomplished in the fantasized-about future, so we don’t actually put in the work needed to achieve that future….” [ MadameNoire ] Booking A Trip? Jonathan Leder’s Fetishism Manifesto Vol 2 of the Day

Jonathan Leder is a friend of mine who I have never actually met, but this is the internet, and it counts, otherwise I’d technically still be a virgin, since all the girls I have been with are from the Internet… I figure we’re at that point in humanity where you don’t need to really leave your house, interact with people, have real interpersonal relationships, or any of that other nonsense, you can just kick it and travel the world on social media and youtube…. That said, Jonathan Leder does leave the house, he’s a great erotic photographer who has done more than just erotic, but who I guess likes erotica because sexuality is awesome…and what better thing to take pics of… He has gone on to start his on skin mag, basically with an old school pin-up/playboy vibe….and this is what he has to say about it: A Study in Fetishisms is a thought provoking, erotic publication. The second volume of ‘A Study in Fetishisms’ embodies the idea of ‘Blondes’ – from dirty to platinum. It is a tribute to the spirit of America, it’s fascinations with life, glamor, beauty and tragedy, and to the women that made, and continue to make, it possible. A Bi-Annual collectible, Volumes 1 & 2 are featured at the PS1 MOMA / MOCA book fairs. Volume 2 is a 5.5 x 8.5″ – 64 Page booklet printed on 80lb dull coated paper, with the best printing possible. Magical Negro: Study Shows White People More Commonly Link Black People To “Superhuman Abilities” Like Not Feeling Pain

Seriously??? Study Shows White People Think Black People Have Superhuman Abilities A recent study conducted by Social Psychological and Personality Science has found evidence that white people have a “superhumanization bias” in regards to black people , more commonly associating African-Americans with magical traits. Via The Grio reports: This trope of the “magic black” or “magic Negro” has been a well-worn plot device in cinema and literature for years, but this study suggests that its impact extends well beyond the realm of fiction. It also reveals that racism, most commonly thought of as explicit and easy to spot, might often be far more subtle than originally believed. The study also found that as whites’ belief in blacks as supernatural heightened, they started to believe that blacks had less capacity to experience pain. Jesse Singal had this to say at the Science of Us: In a series of five studies, some involving so-called implicit association tests in which words are flashed on a screen quickly enough to “prime” a subject with their meaning but not for them to consciously understand what they have seen, the researchers showed that whites are quicker to associate blacks than whites with superhuman words like ghost, paranormal, and spirit. This stereotype has a wide range of potential impacts on how blacks are viewed in culture, including why black juveniles are considered to “be more ‘adult’ than white juveniles when judging culpability,” according to the researchers. Even the President has been unable to escape this stereotype, with a song called “Barrack the Magic Negro,” being released during Obama’s 2008 campaign. David Ehrenstein pointed out that Obama’s message of hope and change was appealing partially for this very reason, writing, “For as with all Magic Negroes, the less real he seems, the more desirable he becomes. If he were real, white America couldn’t project all its fantasies of curative black benevolence on him.” The study’s researchers also note that, “the phenomenon of superhumanization has received virtually no empirical attention in psychology” and that their five studies involving implicit reaction tests, which analyze snap, subconscious decision making, were some of the first empirical tests in the area. Discuss…

Well No Isht: Study Reveals “Stark Racial Biases” Within NYPD

Wow…what a shock (sarcasm). Stark Racial Biases Revealed In NYPD Arrest Practices A new study has proven, once again, that cops more frequently pursue and more harshly punish offenders of color . But surely we didn’t need additional facts and figures to point out where Black and brown folks stand with one-time … Via HuffPost : Three decades ago, New York’s Times Square was a symbol of vice and violence. Today, cops in the area worry about street performers who dress up like Elmo. The city’s transformation from crime capital to urban Disneyland is one of America’s great success stories, but a less encouraging narrative has accompanied it. As a new report shows, arrests for petty offenses like turnstile-jumping and pot possession have shot up since 1980, disproportionately affecting young black and Latino men. The report, released Tuesday by John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, shows that the nation’s largest police force has been arresting more people for misdemeanors, a category that includes low-level crimes, from prostitution to minor drug offenses to dancing in the subway. Since 1980, the percentage of New Yorkers arrested for misdemeanors has tripled, according to the study. The number of blacks arrested for misdemeanors nearly doubled to 104,659 in 2013, from 56,152 in 1990. Latinos saw the number rise even more dramatically, to 78,733 from 30,885. Police arrested 28,996 whites for misdemeanors in 2013, compared with 21,815 in 1990. In New York, civil rights advocates have long criticized the police for stopping and frisking disproportionate numbers of black and Latino people. Mayor Bill de Blasio took office in January after promising to reform the practice. But the new mayor appointed as the police commissioner William J. Bratton, known for his hard-nosed approach to minor offenses. That strategy came under intense scrutiny last summer, after the police grabbed Staten Island grandfather Eric Garner in a chokehold while attempting to arrest him for selling untaxed cigarettes. Garner died soon after. Critics say Bratton’s “broken windows” strategy lands hard on low-income people and people of color. We really wish they’d stop releasing reports reiterating the obvious and make steps toward change…

Race Matters: Study Shows Black Women Are More Likely To Be Obese Because They Don’t Believe They’re Fat

Why do Black women have a higher obesity demographic than any other ethnicity in America ??? Study Shows Black Women Are More Likely To Be Obese Despite anti-immigration propaganda, the most recent U.S. census revealed that 77 percent of the American population classifies themselves as white. Although black people only make up 13 percent of the nation’s population, black women have a higher obesity demographic than any other group. Via Medical Daily reports: In order to understand the female black community’s perception of weight, health, and beauty, researchers investigated, and what they found is truly eye-opening. In a study led by Elizabeth Lynch from Rush University in Illinois, a team of researchers recruited the help of 69 black women. According to a recent press release, although the women involved all shared similar economic backgrounds, lifestyles, and ages, they had various body sizes ranging from underweight to obese. Researchers purposely used such a range in order to determine whether black women’s perception of weight was based on their own body size or on shared cultural beliefs. Results, published in the Journal of Nutrition, Education, and Behavior, showed that regardless of their weight all women involved in the study agreed over which figures in the Body Image Scale were overweight, obese, and too fat. Although most agreed that figures six through nine were overweight, few went onto agree that these overweight figures were also too fat. The majority did, however, classify figures eight and nine as obese and too fat. Rather than outright ask the women if they viewed their own bodies as healthy or overweight, the researchers asked the women to match their own figures with the images they had previously categorized. This is where the experiment got interesting. In total, 56 percent of overweight women (BMI 25 or greater) and 40 percent of obese women (BMI 30 or greater) did not classify their own bodies as overweight, obese, or too fat. Astonishingly, only 30 percent of the women who were medically categorized as obese actually viewed their figures as too fat. In fact, it seemed that the generally accepted overweight BMI numbers in the black female participants (BMI of 35) was 10 figures over that accepted by doctors. In an interesting coincidence, it was observed that those are the exact figures recent studies have shown to be the point when weight begins to threaten lifespan. This coincidence may be explained by Lynch’s observation that weight loss in the black community is more driven by the desire to be healthy and stay off medicine than lose pounds. While the exact figures of black women with eating disorders are unknown, studies have shown that these disorders are somewhat rare among black females, Psychology Today reported. According to Lynch, black and white women generally have differing views on weight and beauty. “Research suggests that for white women the concept of beauty is heavily influenced by body size, and body size is also linked tightly to self-esteem. For black women, though, beauty is defined less by body size, and it’s defined more in terms of things like personal style,” Lynch explained in a podcast provided by The Journal of Nutrition, Education, and Behavior. In layman’s terms, Lynch explained that, based on her studies, it seems to be easier for black women to be “big and beautiful” than it is for women belonging to other ethnic backgrounds. While the idea of body confidence and the low numbers of black females with eating disorders may be something noteworthy, there is a point where this body acceptance begins to endanger one’s health. “The fact that women felt that overweight body sizes were not too fat suggests that being told they are overweight, even by a physician, may not be sufficient motivation for them to attempt weight loss,” Lynch explained in the press release. Instead, ethnically sensitive diet programs may prove more effective in bringing about real weight loss results in black women. Lynch suggests using visual aids rather than terms and numbers to explain obesity and future weight loss goals. This would erase any misunderstanding between doctors and patients and perhaps help the patient better understand the severity of their health issue. Discuss….
