Police Kill Dog in California, Disturbing Footage Captured on Camera

WARNING : The following footage is graphic in nature. In a video posted June 30, we see cops in Hawthorne, California surround a home on a local street. We also see a man named Leon Rosby taking a cell phone video of the situation, eventually yelling something about a “civil rights violation” that catches the attention of the officers. Rosby puts his leashed dog in his car… walks up to the officers and places his hands behind his back, in anticipation of an arrest… only for the dog to escape through an open window, barking and showing aggression toward the officers. When it jumps in their face, the officers open fire, leaving the dog twitching on the ground. It’s very disturbing stuff: Police Kill Dog, Arrest Owner “It looks like the officer tried to reach down and grab the leash, and then the dog lunges in the direction of him and the other officers there,” Hawthorne police Lt. Scott Swain told The Daily Breeze of the incident. “And I know it’s the dog’s master, and more than likely not going to attack him, (but) we’ve got a guy handcuffed that’s kind of defenseless. We have a duty to defend him, too.” The canine, a Rottweiler named Max, was two years old.

Delivery Man Trailer: New Footage Makes All the Difference

The first Delivery Man  trailer made the film look like a huge waste of time, but thanks to this new trailer, things are looking up. Vince Vaughn still has 533 kids thanks to a fertility clinic mixup, but at least now we know he isn’t just going to crash their weddings or throw dodgeballs at their nuts.  Delivery Man Movie Trailer Amazing what a little extra info will do to a story. Of course watching Chris Pratt be smacked repeatedly in the face isn’t going to be anything but fun and that also helps. Don’t be mistaken,  Delivery Man  is another Vince Vaughn movie and it looks like another Vince Vaughn movie, but it has potential to be quite enjoyable at the same time. While  The Internship is still going somewhat strong this summer,  Delivery Guy will fill our Vince Vaughn needs this fall, opening on October 4.

World War Z Review: A Cure for the Common Blockbuster

World War Z stands out from standard Summer blockbuster fare in that it doesn’t simply jump from set piece to set piece in the hopes that the audience will forget what a story is. That’s not to say World War Z has a tremendously compelling story, but it does have the right elements to make it a successful Summer flick: high stakes, clearly outlined objectives, and an awareness of its own flashy destruction. Despite what it may have seemed from the trailer, scores of people don’t die in World War Z simply because it looks cool. They die because the story requires that they die. Compare that with your Star Trek Into Darkness es and your Man of Steel s , and this film is already ahead. The (somewhat controversial, if you’ve been following the production’s history) ending furthers that point, in a way that I actually find quite refreshing given the mass, unaddressed destruction that seems to be a requisite part of every action movie of late. But, let’s start with the opening. The opening set piece is actually exceptionally suspenseful and thrilling. Even if you enter the theater with some knowledge of the story, it is hard not to find yourself tossed directly into the confusion and mass hysteria surrounding the story’s incitement. We see Brad Pitt’s Gerry Lane as a man who knows how to take care of his family, and who can navigate any stressful situation with ease. This ultimately becomes a detriment, however, as Lane seems to be sleep-walking through the most important job any man has ever held in the history of humanity (which also makes us wonder: why him? Is he really the absolute best man for this job?). Lane is a former U.N. employee who, after being rescued with his family from the quickly-spreading disease in Newark, is tasked with scouring the earth seeking a cure for a zombie outbreak that is quickly overtaking the entire planet. As part of his charge, he must leave his wife and children, and a boy they picked up along the way, behind on a military aircraft carrier acting as a safe haven. Lane refuses to go, until it is explained to him that if he makes himself unessential, his family will have to leave the ship. While this is a fine back-story for the character, it ultimately feels tacked on as a last-ditch effort to allow the audience connect to Lane. He is very quiet, very inconspicuous, very calculated, for the hero of a horror/thriller. After traveling to two cities deemed important in the collection of information, Lane is no closer to finding a cure. Only while fleeing Jerusalem does he get an idea. Lane’s proposed solution is interesting, but it doesn’t feel exactly like a puzzle that the audience was allowed to solve along with the character. This only adds to the disappointingly introspective nature of our hero. All that said, though, World War Z is full of thrills and suspense. It doesn’t try too hard to be deep, and at the same time it doesn’t throw away all sense of plot in favor of shoving explosions down your throat. It is clean in its choices. Whereas most modern blockbusters get bogged down in overcomplicated plotlines, World War Z is decidedly simple. And that makes it easier to sit back and enjoy. None of the performances were particularly noteworthy, but that should be expected from a film of this caliber. For a suspenseful, thrilling movie-going experience with its share of jumps, World War Z will do just fine. RATING: 3.5/5

James Case on The Bachelorette: Totally Not All About Love!

James Case, who went on a memorable date with Desiree Hartsock this week on The Bachelorette, says there’s more to the show than love. A lot more. Major Bachelorette spoilers right here, people! While he’s a fan of Des, and is/was totally interested, he says that anyone who tells you they’re just going on the show for love is not telling the truth. “The whole experience, if somebody tells you it’s just for love, they have to be crazy,” he says. “I got to travel the world, I got to do a lot of things.” So was he there … wait for it … for the right reasons ? “I got to do things people aren’t able to do and I took advantage of that. It was amazing. I’m living in a new city. It’s hard to find a woman to date here.” “It’s been difficult for me with work. I just felt like it was a great opportunity. There’s multiple reasons why I chose to go on the show,” says Case. If James doesn’t win out in his quest for love/adventure/whatever this summer, he thinks he knows who the right man for Desiree Hartsock will be. “I think [Desiree is] a smart girl and I think she’s going to pick the person that fits her,” Case says. “If I had to pick, I think it might be Brooks.” As for the drama involving him that looks like unfolds on this coming week’s episode, Dave says you’ll have to sit tight in that department. “I’m not too sure how I can answer that. I just hope people judge me on the merits and who I am and what they’ve seen thus far,” he told the media. “Things can be said, things can be done and you just have to roll with the punches. I signed up for this, you just gotta roll with it,” adds Case. “Stay tuned, right?” Right.

Michael Hastings Dies in Car Accident; Acclaimed Journalist Was 33

Michael Hastings, an acclaimed young journalist, has died in a car accident. The Vermont native was just 33 years old when he passed away Tuesday. He was widely known for a profile in Rolling Stone magazine, which reported his death, of a general who commanded U.S. forces in Afghanistan. “We are shocked and devastated by the news that Michael Hastings is gone ,” said Ben Smith, editor in chief of BuzzFeed, for whom he also wrote. “Michael was a great, fearless journalist with an incredible instinct for the story, and a gift for finding ways to make his readers care about anything he covered.” “From wars to politics, he wrote stories that would otherwise have gone unwritten, and without him there are many great stories that will go untold.” “Michael was also a wonderful, generous colleague, a joy to work with and a lover of corgis … especially his Bobby Sneakers,” Smith continued. “Our thoughts are with Elise and the rest of his family.” Rolling Stone managing editor Will Dana echoed those sentiments in comments in an obituary posted Tuesday evening on the magazine’s website: “Great reporters exude a certain kind of electricity, the sense that there are stories burning inside them,” Dana said of Hastings. “There’s no higher calling or greater way to live life than to be always relentlessly trying to find and tell those stories.” “I’m sad that I’ll never get to publish all the great stories that he was going to write.” “I’m sad that he won’t be stopping by my office for any more short visits which would stretch for two or three completely engrossing hours. He will be missed.” His reporting on Gen. Stanley McChrystal in 2010 led to his resignation after he was quoted mocking President Obama, Vice President Biden and other officials. The story was titled “The Runaway General” and resulted from the considerable access to McChrystal and others that Michael Hastings was granted. “You never know how a story will be received,” he told the Burlington Free Press . “I knew the reporting was new and different, but I’m kind of surprised at the impact.”
