‘I don’t regret anything that I did,’ latest ‘Idol’ casualty says of his oddball, oft-hilarious run on the show. By James Montgomery Heejun Han Photo: MTV News Since his exit from “American Idol” , last week, Heejun Han has made the most of his post-show media blitz, openly pining for judge Jennifer Lopez , taking jabs at mentor Jimmy Iovine and, of course, suggesting Diddy may have been in the bag during his appearance on the show. Oh, and he also joked that he’s going to start watching “The Voice.” Needless to say, it’s been a wild ride — nearly as wild as his time on the show itself — so when Han stopped by the MTV newsroom on Monday (April 2), we asked him about all the comments he’s made since getting the boot. And, as you’d probably expect, he wasn’t about to apologize. “I’m just going to be me, that’s all,” Han said. “But I will say that the show itself was the greatest opportunity a person could ever have in their lifetime, I believe. A guy like me, who has less talent than any other contestant that’s on that stage made it this far was amazing. It was a God-given gift.” Of course, he took the same tack when asked about his now-infamous performance of Billy Joel’s “My Life,” in which he shed a tuxedo and sprinted through the audience, much to the annoyance of judge Steven Tyler and, judging by his getting voted off the show the following week, the majority of the “Idol” audience too. But does he regret doing any of it? In a word: No. “It’s supposed to be entertaining. It’s either [supposed to] make them cry, make them laugh, or make them pissed off about something. I felt like I at least did two of the three [with] Billy Joel,” he explained. “People ask me, ‘What would you do differently, because that’s the thing that caused you to go home?’ But only thing I’d do differently this time, if I could go back in time, then I’m not just going to take off my tuxedo, I’m also going to take off my pants. I don’t regret anything that I did; entertaining people is catching them out of nowhere, and I felt like I did it.” And to that end, Han said he’s proud of everything he accomplished during his time on “Idol,” because he’ll be the first to admit that he came into the competition with less experience than any of his fellow contestants. “I mean, Jessica Sanchez was singing when she was, like, a sperm,” he laughed. “My first non-Korean audience was Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez, and it just kept getting bigger.” And Han truly believes he left at the top, with his rendition of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You.” “I saw [elimination] coming. Everyone took the Billy Joel performance wrong … people might have taken it as a joke, and I just had to show them that I do really belong here, and I didn’t make it here by mistake. … I really wanted to finish on a high note,” he said. “I knew that was what the whole thing was all about, and if you listen to the song, lyric-wise, it says ‘A song for you.’ It was not a song for me to just be in this [competition], it’s a song for people who have been believing in me and supporting me, but this is my last stage, so, thank you guys.” What do you think of Heejun’s “Idol” elimination? We’re hoping for a peek at Perry’s backstage antics and her geeky alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry, when the concert clip drops on Tuesday. By Fallon Prinzivalli Katy Perry Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images With the announcement that Katy Perry ‘s 3-D concert movie is set to hit theaters this summer, fans are already eagerly awaiting the trailer. Well, KatyCats don’t have long to wait since Paramount Pictures is premiering the trailer for “Katy Perry: Part of Me” on Tuesday! Perry never disappoints when it comes to her live shows — from costumes to sets to colorful hair, she always leaves fans screaming for an encore — and we expect nothing less from the concert movie. But while we wait, here’s what we’re hoping for from the trailer debut. Off the Road Perry is known for her fun-loving, spontaneous persona. And while we’re looking forward to seeing the concert footage, we’re also hoping for some unexpected backstage antics. Whether she’s pulling pranks on her dancers, making funny faces into the camera or telling jokes at dinner, we’re excited to see a part of Katy normally reserved for when she’s off-camera. Costumes, Costumes, Costumes From a whipped-cream-shooting bra to a carousel dress to her sexy take on a toy soldier, Perry doesn’t hold back when it comes to her wardrobe. We have our fingers crossed for a sneak peek at the singer’s outfits! We can’t fathom what lies behind her dressing-room door, but whatever she wears, it’s sure to be sparkly and bright. Her Kids’ Choice Awards red-carpet look on Saturday proved this yet again. Meeting the KatyCats Perry is a huge fan of her fans, and she’s known to hold countless meet-and-greets on tour. A few fan-encounter clips are sure to please her devoted KatyCats. We can only imagine how it would feel to wind up in the trailer for your favorite pop singer’s movie. Perry’s Viewpoint We’re used to seeing pop stars perform live onstage, but it’s rare to get a sense of the show from the artist’s point of view. We’d love to see what Perry sees when she looks out into the audience. Are the fans screaming and crying or dancing and singing? What’s the first thing she notices when she steps onstage? Is it a fan-made poster or the bright lights? A quick glimpse at what Perry sees is sure to be unique and interesting. Kathy Beth Terry Perry introduced us to her 13-year-old, nerdy alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry, last summer in her video for “Last Friday Night (TGIF).” Kathy was an instant hit, collecting more than 800,000 likes on her Facebook page. Her thoughts on mega-crush Steve Johnson and getting through the 6th grade were hilarious, and we hope to see more of her commentary — plus the bright-pink turtleneck and denim jumper — in the trailer. ‘The atmosphere I grew up in was 100 percent church,’ singer says in new promo for the film. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images Since first announcing she’d be starring in her own 3-D concert movie, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” Katy Perry has kept fans in the loop about the film. In keeping with that routine, she’s just revealed the release date for the summer flick. “My concert documentary is coming out Fourth of July weekend. Go and see it and be a firework!” she told E! News at the Kids’ Choice Awards . The film was directed by Magical Elves Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, who also served as producers on Justin Bieber’s highly successful “Never Say Never” concert movie. “The atmosphere I grew up in was 100 percent church. I started singing and I never really had another plan,” she said in a TV spot that began airing over the weekend, which is also full of vintage, behind-the-scenes footage of the singer. After kicking it old-school, a montage of her music videos leads up to colorful concert footage of the singer from her California Dreams Tour. “If you have a dream, you have to go on a journey to fulfill that dream,” she says in the clip. The tease closes out with Perry dressed up as her “T.G.I.F.” alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry. “This film, you’re going to see it from my best friend/ buddy perspective, you’re going to see exactly what I mean and feel and think about everything,” Perry recently told MTV News . “Listen, I’ve [worked on] most of this film for a very long time and the word ‘cheap’ was not in the vocabulary,” she said. “But, hello, it’s 3-D. You’re going to get hit with a lot of sh–.” To add to the excitement for the movie, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were recently spotted shooting something that will appear in the film. “That tour was so life-changing to me. I learned so much, I went through so much along the way,” Perry said. “I’m not necessarily trying to prove anything to anyone, but not only will people really hands-down know me after they see this film, but you’ll see me as the Dorothy wearing the red ruby slipper, and at the end of it all I’m the [Wizard of] Oz as well.” Related Videos MTV First: Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Related Artists Katy Perry
‘Avatar’ director became the first solo diver to dive to 35,756 feet in the Pacific Ocean. By Gil Kaufman James Cameron Photo: Getty Images Director James Cameron has scaled the heights in Hollywood with mega-smashes including “Titanic” and “Avatar.” Hell, he even once described himself as “king of the world” at the Oscars. But on Sunday, the oceanographic nut reached new depths when he piloted his custom one-man submarine to the deepest point in the world’s oceans by hitting 35,756 feet in the Mariana Trench, southwest of Guam, according to National Geographic . It marks the first time a solo diver has ever reached that point. Following seven years of preparation for the dive, and a few days cooling his heels to wait for bad weather to pass, Cameron pulled the feat off at 2:52 p.m. PT and then shared the historic news on Twitter. “Just arrived at the ocean’s deepest pt. Hitting bottom never felt so good,” Cameron tweeted after the two-and-a-half-hour descent that took him 6.8 miles deep. “Can’t wait to share what I’m seeing w/ you @DeepChallenge.” The record earned props from none other than movie tough guy and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who tweeted, “Congrats to my great friend on the deepest solo dive ever. Always a pioneer.” Cameron surfaced a short time later after a 70-minute ascent. Cameron helped design the torpedo-shaped sub called the DeepSea Challenger, which he used to collect samples and 3-D video on the ocean floor for nearly six hours. He was pleased with how the dive went, though he lamented that the “manipulator arm” didn’t work, which is “to be expected w/a prototype vehicle. Takes time to iron out bugs.” He said the team plans to go back and do a number of other dives over the next few weeks. “I see this as the beginning of opening up this frontier,” he said. “Open up to science & understanding these deep places.” Though he’s focused much of his time lately on the dive, it’s possible Cameron surfaced with some ideas for the “Avatar” sequel. In August of 2010, the director told us that the sequel could be focused on the oceans of Pandora. “I think what we should do there is — because we’ll have to have characters that are in and under the water — is that we should actually capture them underwater,” Cameron explained. “It’s not the same as going diving, but I like to keep my diving, which I do for pleasure, separate from work.”
The wait is finally over! What did we learn from the return of ‘Mad Men’? By Eric Ditzian Aaron Stanton, Larisa Oleynik, Vincent Kartheiser and Alison Brie in “Mad Men” season five episode one Photo: Michael Yarish/AMC “Mad Men,” don’t ever leave us again, OK? Or at least not for a few more seasons. After a 500-day-plus hiatus, AMC’s hit show returned Sunday night with the epic two-hour season-five premiere, filled with civil-rights strife, relationships of the sure-to-blow-up-in-epically-entertaining-yet-profoundly-troubling-fashion variety, and innumerable tiny moments that make creator Matthew Weiner’s “Mad Men” arguably the finest show on TV . The debut also addressed a slew of lingering questions we’d amassed since the previous season came to a close in October 2010. Check out 11 of the most burning questions we’d been dying to have answered: When Does Season Five Take Place? How gangster would it be if Weiner opened season five with a slow push in toward Don Draper, his hair oddly gray, his deep wrinkles coming into view, his dapper postwar mojo caked in decades of booze, fatty foods and what-has-become-of-this-once-proud-country disillusionment? What if the year were 1986 and Don were a gut-bellied 60 years old? However unlikely such a crazy time jump was, an open question headed into the new season was exactly when in time Weiner would restart his story. After all, over a year passed between seasons one and two, while barely a month elapsed from the end of season three to the start of season four. Now we know the answer: Season five begins in the summer of 1966. Did Don Really Marry Megan? If you thought Don Draper would be content with an appropriately aged girlfriend, a quick trip to “Tomorrowland” (the title of the season-four finale) disabused viewers of such a notion. He ditched Dr. Faye Miller and took his young, seductive secretary Megan Calvet on a Disneyland trip with the kids. One sun-bleached California vacation later, Don had cruelly dumped Faye and asked Megan to marry him. Would it last? Could it last? Yes and yes. They’re now married and living together (though, obviously, not so happily). Is Faye Totally Out of the Picture? Poor Faye. She was smart and sexy and Don’s intellectual equal. Alas, she was also his age. As far as we can tell, Faye is totally dunzo as far as Don’s life is concerned. Could she come creeping back into the picture? There’s an argument to be made that she’s too self-possessed to slink back into his arms. But when on “Mad Men” has a woman ever been able to resist the charms of Don Draper? What Will Happen to Don When He Turns 40? If you guessed “have a birthday party at his Manhattan loft thrown by his secretary-turned-wife during which she saucily sings a French love song to Don and his friends, leading the ad man to verbally bitch-slap his wife and his wife to strip down to her undies, clean their apartment and eventually make love to her hubby on the filthy carpet” — then congrats, you win! Wither Bert Cooper? The firm’s elder statesman seemingly quit the firm at the end of season four, following Don’s public statement that he will no longer produce ads for tobacco companies. “It’s been a pleasure,” Bert announced on his way out the door. Turns out he didn’t quit, and as season five begins, Bert’s still puttering around the office with not much at all to do. Does Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce Survive? Big Tobacco gave Don’s ad agency the big kiss of death at the end of season four. They lost the Lucky Strike account, the very big deal keeping their fledging operation afloat. Could Sterling Cooper survive? Would Don have to go back to selling fur coats? Hardly. Thanks to the hard work of account exec Pete Campbell, Sterling Cooper continues to chug forward. They’re still struggling, however, so expect the firm’s finances to play a significant role this season. Does Joan Have Her Baby? A back-alley hump session with a former flame left office manager Joan pregnant last season. She contemplated having an abortion, even traveling to a clinic, before deciding to keep the baby and pretend it’s actually her husband’s child. Did she go through with the ruse? Does her hubby still have no idea he’s been cuckolded? Yep, the guy hasn’t a clue. And Joan, the once-and-future sex kitten, is now spending most of her time applying cream to her baby’s diaper rash, rather than scheming and pouting in the offices of Sterling Cooper. What’s Up With Lane’s Marriage? The British finance whiz had a helluva rough time in season four. His wife left him, he went for a roll in the hay with a prostitute, then his father beat the piss out of him, sending him scurrying back across the pond to mend things with his wife. As season five begins, they’re back together, but all is not well. After he picks up a stranger’s wallet and calls up the guy’s mistress, we witness Lane awkwardly attempting to engage in the ’60s equivalent of phone sex. Nothing comes to pass, but we have a feeling Lane and his marriage are in for a ton of misery in the episodes to come. Is Sally Draper Still a Terror? Shockingly, if only temporarily, the answer to this burning question is no. Last season, heartbreakingly, Sally was a nightmare of a little girl as she struggled to adjust to a life lived under the shaky guidance of divorced parents. Who would have thought that as she approached her teenage years, she’d tamp down on the tantrums and start becoming a well-behaved adolescent girl? Two hours into the new season, that’s exactly what Sally is. Of course, we still haven’t seen her in the company of her mom, Betty. There’s plenty of time for the terror to return. Is Pete Campbell Still So Freaking Pete Campbell? He fathered a child with his co-worker. He got married and cheated on his wife too many times to count. He’s, generally speaking, a sniveling little turd viewers love to hate. But by the end of last season, Pete looked like he was turning things around, confessing his infidelities to his wife and turning into the agency’s rainmaker. Maybe, just maybe, Pete was becoming — less annoyingly Pete. It’s not going to last, it seems. Two hours into season five, he’s already complaining that his wife sits around all day like a frumpy lump, and he has started taking later trains back from the city to the suburbs, because, well, take one guess why he’s hanging around Manhattan after work. Pete Campbell, surprise surprise, will keep on being Pete Campbell. Can Peggy Olsen Sustain a Happy, Healthy Relationship? Remember beatnik journalist Abe Drexler, the guy copywriter Peggy hated and then loved and then kinda love-hated or hate-loved? Things appear to be going well between the two of them. She’s cranky as ever, but he’s supportive of her and her work life, even as he surely continues to believe her job is everything that’s wrong with ’60s America. How long they remain a joyful couple is anybody’s guess (ours is: not very long). For now, though, let’s just be happy for Peggy. After all, she’s the true hero at the heart of “Mad Men.” What did you think of the “Mad Men” season premiere? Share your reviews in the comments! Jaleel White is speaking out against claims by his former girlfriend Bridget Hardy , who told Star magazine that White verbally and physically abused her in 2010. “The allegations made against me back in 2010 have suspiciously resurfaced in time to coincide with my new show on Syfy and Dancing With the Stars ,” he said. “Bridget Hardy has consistently shown a knack for timing throughout our child custody disputes,” insists Jaleel White , the father of her two-year-old daughter. “When you’re doing well in life, it’s par for the course for [people] to try and knock you down. But when the individual is also the mother of your child, it is particularly hurtful.” “I have co-parented in peace and compliance with the law for over two years.” The Dancing With the Stars competitor went on to elaborate on the relationship he’s had with Hardy, who he says he hasn’t seen physically in almost six months. “In the summer of 2010, my 11 month old daughter was taken to Seattle, Washington for what was supposed to have been a planned vacation and as Ms. Hardy declared herself in her recent exclusive interview, she told me emphatically, ‘I’m done.'” “Our relationship came to an end. “Ms. Hardy has lived in the greater Los Angeles area for over eight years. My daughter was born in California and, thanks to our judicial process, my daughter remains a California resident. Up until now, we have had a workable joint custody arrangement.” “As much as I would love to go detail for detail refuting Ms. Hardy’s claims about the specifics of what was our relationship, the family court judge made it very clear to me any public discussion of our case and ordeal would be held against me in a court of law.” “Ms. Hardy’s attempts at greater sums of money beyond child support have continued now for two years. And I guess my most recent successes have been too much for her to stomach. I’m assuming I have not received her votes these past Monday nights.”
Steven Tyler stole the spotlight for a few moments on American Idol last night, announcing that he and Aerosmith will be hitting the tour this summer for the band’s first tour since 2009. “We’re calling the tour the Global Warming Tour,” Tyler said like only he can. “Because of the fire. Yo tengo el fuego.” Earlier in the day, Tyler gathered at the Grove in Los Angeles – along with bandmate Joe Perry – and also revealed that the legendary group will release a new album – its first in eight years – some time later this year. “We’ve been underground for four months, doing what we do best,” said Tyler, adding that they’re two songs away from completion on the CD. But back to the tour: it will kick off on June 16 in Minneapolis, Cheap Trick will open and tickets go on sale tomorrow. Sounds like Amazing news to us! We aren’t Cryin upon hearing it! And we Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing when it comes to Aerosmith! (Sorry.)
Singer Steven Tyler promises to bring ‘a little bit of 1975 back.’ By Gil Kaufman Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler Photo: Getty Images As if guitarist Joe Perry’s surprise “Happy Birthday” serenade to singer and judge Steven Tyler on “American Idol” last week weren’t proof enough that all is good in Aerosmith land, on Wednesday, the veteran rockers confirmed they’re releasing their long-awaited studio album this summer. They didn’t reveal the title of the album, their first featuring new material since 2001’s Just Push Play, but singer Tyler told Reuters that after a few years of turmoil and tension things are (relatively) back to normal. “The camaraderie’s there, there’s some songs that are new rock, and old rock and middle-of-the-road rock, and blues, piano,” he said. “Joe Perry singing a couple of songs, I’m playing the drums, Joey sings, just all kinds of stuff.” Tyler, 64, added that they have re-teamed with longtime producer Jack Douglas in order to bring “a little bit of 1975 back.” Rolling Stone reported that Tyler said the band is two songs from the finish line and some of the titles completed so far include “Legendary Child,” “Beautiful” and “Out Go the Lights.” The release date was not announced, but the band — who arrived at the press conference via motorcycle, a white Lamborghini, taxi and rickshaw — promised to have the disc ready around the time of the kickoff of their recently announced North American “Global Warming” tour, which begins June 16 in Minneapolis. “You’re going to get some new songs from the new album and some old songs from the old albums and you’re going to get new us and old us, and we’re just going to go out and rock your world,” Tyler said. The Boston-bred icons have been trying to get together to record their 15th studio album for several years, but their efforts were interrupted by a variety of ailments, stage accidents involving Tyler (as well as his rehab stint in 2009) and enmity that was stirred up by the singer’s decision to sign on as a judge for “Idol.” But despite the grumbling from Perry when Tyler announced his decision to take a seat next to Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson in 2010, the motor-mouthed vocalist said the exposure has helped the group reach a whole new audience. “The music that we write, fortunately it’s been seductive to all genres of people,” he said. “There’s going to be kids who are going to get introduced to Aerosmith all over again, and there’s a bunch of new music that we’re taking a risk and putting out. It’s kind of futuristic rock, all the way across the board, we’re just good for that.” Related Artists Aerosmith
Get ready for Snooki’s official engagement photo … Twitter style! Earlier today, the pregnant Jersey Shore star sent out the following picture, featuring her fiance Jionni LaValle – and her engagement bling, of course. Snooki has been showing off her growing baby bump ever since she confirmed she is expecting, and isn’t disappointing with her maternity couture: The Snook continues to wear wild prints, the poof in her hair and sky high heels … kind of like a Jersey-fied, less enormous version of Jessica Simpson. She’s currently filming her spin-off reality show with JWoww and practicing on baby dolls . She is slated to return for a sixth season of Jersey Shore. Her pregnancy is going to be a major story line in the show this summer … unless Snooki and The Situation are phased out , which has been rumored. Either way, she and Jionni LaValle look happy! Lucky/poor guy!
