Shannon Magrane Has One Bad Day On ‘American Idol’

Magrane becomes the second ‘Idol’ booted this week after her version of ‘One Sweet Day’ fails to land her a save from the judges. By Adam Graham Shannon Magrane on “American Idol” Photo: Fox It was anything but “One Sweet Day” for Shannon Magrane, as the 16-year-old “pride of Tampa” was sent packing on Thursday’s (March 15) episode of “American Idol.” With her elimination, Magrane missed the opportunity to go on the road with the “Idol” summer tour. Her version of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” which received decent marks from the judges on Wednesday’s performance episode , landed her dead last following America’s votes. Magrane was given a chance to sing for her life to be the recipient of the judges’ save, but her reprise of “One Sweet Day” was not enough to sway the judges. She became the second contestant eliminated this week, following Jermaine Jones’ exit on Wednesday , after executives discovered he had several warrants out that he failed to disclose. Though it’s largely thought to be the ladies’ year on “Idol,” Thursday’s episode saw an all-female bottom three. Along with Magrane, Elise Testone and Erika Van Pelt also found themselves facing elimination. Testone, who received a welcome attitude check and recovered from a near-disastrous performance the week prior, was the first let back to safety by host Ryan Seacrest. In addition to Testone and Van Pelt, the other “Idols” who will be hitting the road this summer are Colton Dixon, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Deandre Brackensick, Phillip Phillips, Hollie Cavanagh, Heejun Han and Jessica Sanchez. In defending Sanchez, who stole the show last week with her version of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” but was brought slightly back down to earth this week with her screamy version of Gloria Estefan’s “Turn the Beat Around,” mentor Jimmy Iovine said, “If she goes home, we should all go home.” Also during the show, Tommy Hilfiger was introduced as the contestants’ “image adviser.” The fashion icon will work with them to help “shape them toward stardom,” he explained. Demi Lovato also appeared and performed her latest single, “Give Your Heart a Break,” while Daughtry was on hand to debut the band’s new single, “Out of My Head.” Do you agree with America’s decision to send home Shannon Magrane? Making It Rain On Them Hoes: Chad And Evelyn Soon-To-Be Ochocinco Are Reported To Make Only $300,000 A Piece For Basketball Wives Spinoff

Niiiiice *Fabolous voice* According to TMZ reports : Chad Ochocinco and Evelyn Lozada have signed their deal to do a “Basketball Wives” spinoff show with VH1 … and they each have 300,000 reasons to celebrate … TMZ has learned. According to our sources, filming on the new show will begin in the next few weeks, right after taping for “Wives” ends. We’re told the show will focus on the couple as they get ready to exchange vows this summer. Our sources say negotiations finally wrapped last week and the two will each take home $300,000 for about two months of work. As TMZ first reported, when Evelyn re-upped her contract with “Basketball Wives” last year, part of the deal called for VH1 to give her and Chad their own show. The show should be officially announced this week. 300 racks is no small change, especially in these economic times, but we kind of expected that number to be a lil’ higher considering that Evelyn is the engine in the Basketball Wives Bentley. Madonna’s MDNA: Swallowing It One Pill At A Time

MTV News takes a look at why Madge’s upcoming album is a drug worth taking. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna’s MDNA Photo: Interscope Madonna wants us to dance the heartbreak away on MDNA. The record, set to drop on March 26, has some of the finest musical moments we’ve heard from the pop legend in the last few years, recalling the finer songs and themes she explored on Ray of Light and Confessions on a Dance Floor. It’s clear that Madge had her heart broken, most likely by her former hubby and British auteur, Guy Ritchie. She explores the pain of life post-divorce on many of the songs on the album, and most of the time, it works perfectly. Madonna really understands heartbreak and she understands even better how it can empower someone to be a better person. While all the buzz seems to be about “I Don’t Give A” and the bit too on-the-nose confessions she makes about her divorce (where she even sings about falling off a horse), her anger is even darker on the William Orbit-produced “Gang Bang.” Sparse at times and always punctuated by a pulsing beat, it’s incredibly hard. It’s the type of record you’d expect to hear at some after-hours club that your really edgy friend knows about. It’s about falling completely in love and falling more deeply into hate when it’s over. Serving as a pop-song revenge fantasy, Madonna sings, “And I’m going straight to hell/ And I’ve got a lot of friends there/ And if I see that b—- in Hell/ I’m gonna shoot him in the head again/ Cause I wanna see him die/ Over and over and over.” On the disco-tinged “Love Spent,” Madge sings about feeling like nothing more than a bank to a former lover (she did have one very costly breakup from Ritchie), and on the remorseful, melodic “Best Friend,” she admits, “Your picture’s off the wall, but I’m still waiting for your call/ And every man that walks through the door/ Will be compared to you.” “Superstar” is light and airy, recalling some of the singer’s highlights from the ’80s. The mid-tempo’s production, which comes courtesy of Hardy “Indiigo” Muanza, certainly helps distract from some of the sillier lyrics that have Madonna comparing her boy toy to famed dudes like Al Capone and James Dean. If anyone was wondering why she called the album MDNA, all they need to do is look to “I’m Addicted,” the super club-thumping track full of bleeping noises, spare moments and then big chugging ones, which are filled out with loopy instances. It’s about letting go and loving someone completely: “Now that your name/ Pumps like blood in my veins/ Pulsing through my body, lighting my mind/ It’s like MDNA and that’s OK.” MDNA, of course, is also known as ecstasy, giving the track the perfect metaphor for love on the dance floor. While most of the album addresses the highs and lows of falling in love, “Some Girls” is all about Madonna proclaiming her awesomeness. Another Orbit jam, it’s a crunchy, robotic, thumping anthem that puts Madonna right in the center of female empowerment. “I’m not like the rest,” she proclaims, as if anyone would ever question that. “Some girls are second best.” On the chorus, she declares, “Some girls are not like me/ I’m everything you’ve ever dreamed of/ I got you begging please.” One of the highlights is “Turn Up the Radio,” which sounds like it was born to be this summer’s feel-good anthem. It’s bright, happy and fun, all about letting go of the past. Over Martin Solveig’s sunny production, Madge sings, “It was time I opened my eyes/ I’m leaving the past behind/ Nothing’s ever what it seems/ Including this time and this crazy dream.” She’s not wrong to be that confident on this album. She’s certainly in the groove. And the album is full of strength, but it’s also her vulnerability that rounds it out. If fans thought link type=”content” id=”1678478″> “Give Me All Your Luvin’ ” and “Girl Gone Wild” are what this era is all about, they are only seeing pieces of the MDNA puzzle, that’s only completed when listening to the album from front to back. In the end, this album is a drug worth taking. Are you counting down the days to the release of MDNA ? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Madonna

SXSW 2012: Why Austin’s Film Fest Tops All Others

South by Southwest was created for ‘real movie fans,’ documentarian Morgan Spurlock tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Morgan Spurlock speaks at 2011 SXSW Photo: WireImage There’s something inherently cool about Austin’s annual South by Southwest film festival. For starters, it has a fun acronym and a decidedly casual vibe, but what sets SXSW apart from the other big film fests is that it caters to actual film fans. And there’s something for everyone, from a few mainstream studio-made crowd pleasers to the genre-tastic Midnighters series to eclectic documentaries and shorts. “What I love about the film festival is it’s real movie fans,” documentarian Morgan Spurlock, a frequent attendee of SXSW (and the man behind “Super Size Me”), recently told MTV News.”It’s not filled with people from Los Angeles, not people from business side of things, it’s real local people who love movies. You get a real gauge how an audience will respond to your film at SXSW, which I really like.” “Big Easy Express” director Emmett Malloy revealed that the festival’s unique and fan-friendly vibe is a big part of the reason they wanted to premiere the film in Austin, along with the fact that they are being treated as equals with all the other big films instead of being pushed to the side in a “Music Doc” category. “When we were looking at places to premiere, there were a lot of film festivals brought up, but SXSW felt perfect,” Malloy said. “If we went to another fest, Music Docs are treated more as a niche.” “Big Easy” features folk music-friendly bands Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show as they traveled from Oakland, California, to New Orleans on an eight-day railroad tour/ musical adventure in the summer of 2011. “At SXSW, it was a place where the layers of our film work perfectly for it and the bands were excited to come. It stacked the deck because we knew they would be excited to have us as well.” Spurlock will be on hand for the screening of his “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold” and as part of the panel “Changing the Channel: The New Golden Age of TV,” where he will discuss the upcoming second season of his Hulu series “A Day in the Life.” Spurlock explained SXSW is the perfect launching pad for his show’s second season, which features an actual day in the life of people like MMA fighter Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Joel McHale and Questlove, due to the fest’s marriage of interactive and entertainment elements, coupled with the fact that online commerce continues to be a hot topic of conversation these days. “SXSW is one of those places where great things come to fruition. It’s special,” Spurlock said. “The biggest thing: I want people to know the lay of the land. I want people to know what goes into production of the show, and I want people to know what opportunities exist in this online world, to know there are places to go to produce original content.” “I’m just excited for anyone to see the film right now,” Malloy said of what he’s looking forward to most while in Austin. “It’s about a fun trip, and I wanted people to experience it in a genuine fashion,” he continued, adding that the spirit of “Big Easy” is similar to that of SXSW itself. “It’s simple. Great music and great energy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Related Photos 2011 SXSW Music Festival

‘Glee’ Cast Won’t Tour This Summer

Cast may instead put on a charity concert later this year to support its Give a Note campaign. By Jocelyn Vena Darren Criss in “Glee” Photo: FOX After two successful runs in the past, “Glee” won’t hit the road this summer. Despite earlier reports that the show would kick off another tour this year, a rep tells The Hollywood Reporter , “We currently have no plans of touring the cast this summer.” However, there are plans to hold a charity concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles later this year. Proceeds from the show would benefit the “Glee” Give a Note campaign, which supports music education programs in schools. Sources told Billboard.com that dates have already been discussed, but the show or shows are only in the planning stages. September seems to be the target date for the charity concert. Although a concert tour had been discussed, the focus now seems to be on the charity gig. “We have been talking about continuing our work on a next phase of ‘Glee’ Give a Note,” said Jane Balek, Give a Note’s COO and assistant executive director of the National Association for Music Education. “But no definite projects were discussed.” She added that “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy and Fox are “truly supportive of the mission of NAfME and its Give a Note Foundation.” Last year’s tour was later made into a 3-D film , “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.” The film opened last August, and despite the show’s TV success, it failed to ignite the box office, profiting only $5.7 million in its opening weekend and landing at #11 that week.
