Drake Kills The Game To Take #2 In Hottest MCs Debate

YMCMB standout was ‘On One’ this year, from undeniable features to Take Care. By MTV News staff Drake Photo: Getty Images Drake says his only cares are money and his native Toronto, but judging from the way he showed out in 2011, you have to figure rap dominance was pretty high on his list too. Drizzy definitely got his money and went to great lengths to put the city where he’s from on the map. Those efforts helped Drake clinch the #2 slot on MTV News’ Hottest MCs in the Game VII list. “A lot of times artists are faced with a sophomore slump. I think Drake surpassed it and probably had one of the best hip-hop albums of the year,” said Steven Roberts, MTV News producer/writer, about the chart-topping Take Care. Although Drake didn’t drop the November 2011 project until the fourth quarter, he maintained a serious presence all year: whether through personally leaked tracks like “Dreams Money Can Buy” and “Trust Issues” or high-powered collaborations like Future’s “Tony Montana,” Lil Wayne’s “She Will” and DJ Khaled’s inescapable summer smash “I’m On One,” which spent 13 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Rap Songs charts. Want to join the debate? Just hit us on Twitter using the hashtag #HottestMC! “Try to imagine what radio would sound like this past year if you removed Drake from the equation,” said Rebecca Thomas, MTV News editor/writer, issuing a challenge. HOT STREAK Album: Take Care Selected Mixtapes: None Singles: “Headlines,” “Make Me Proud” (featuring Nicki Minaj), “Take Care” (featuring Rihanna) Street Bangers: “Marvins Room,” “The Motto” (featuring Lil Wayne), “Lord Knows” (featuring Rick Ross) Key Guest Appearances: DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One,” Waka Flocka Flame’s “Round of Applause,” Future’s “Tony Montana,” Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin’ ” Meteoric Metrics: Besides scoring a platinum plaque for Take Care, Drake crushed Billboard with top 10 singles like “Take Care” and “Make Me Proud.” Business Ventures: Drake further established his OVO brand; helped introduce Toronto singer the Weeknd to the masses Tours: Drake kicked off his intimate Club Paradise Tour on Valentine’s Day 2012 Monumental Moment: Drake beat the sophomore slump with a #1 debut for Take Care, selling 631,000 units in the first week Forecast: Drake claims he’s already started writing his third album. And if his and Ross’ Y.O.L.O. ever sees the light of day, expect another year of dominance from Aubrey. Rahman Dukes, MTV News’ director of hip-hop news, answered the call: “You wouldn’t even know that he didn’t have an album out [early last year] because he was all over the radio.” Drake’s dominance is well-documented, from SoundScan success to extraordinarily extensive radio play. As an artist, the Young Money standout blends R&B melody and alternative sensibilities with an MC’s bravado. While still spitting bars with some of the game’s most highly regarded lyricists, his emotive writing style made it acceptable for rappers to dish out their feelings (though Common might disagree ). Still, while the Toronto rapper meets all of the criteria to be considered hot, some members of the Hip-Hop Brain Trust wondered whether his penchant for singing was a strike against him in competition with purebred MCs? After all, Take Care was equal parts rap and R&B. “In this debate, he loses points for that,” said Rob Markman, MTV News’ senior hip-hop writer, of Drake’s crooning. It’s doubtful Drake will change, though, nor do fans want him to — his musical duality has been a major selling point. It not only led to his deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money, it helped launch him to international stardom. Now the whole world knows his name. Shelia Grullon, music programming coordinator at MTV, put it simply: “I think before he was kinda off of Wayne’s heels and now he just held his own.” What do you think of our list? Rick Ross Proves He’s Bawse As Hottest MC In The Game

Even without his own album, Rozay owned 2011 and topped our Hottest MCs in the Game list. By MTV News staff Rick Ross Photo: MTV News / Getty Images When Rick Ross experiences a personal moment of triumph, a hearty grunt typically marks the occasion. Built up from the bowels of his belly, Rozay’s baritone call has become as ubiquitous as his titillating one-liners — not that a simple ad-lib is the only thing that earned Rick Ross the #1 spot on MTV News’ Hottest MCs in the Game VII list, his first time up top. Rozay was on pace to release his fifth studio album until he faced a pair of “minor setbacks,” as he so poetically dubs the two seizures he suffered in October. ” God Forgives, I Don’t was slated to come out in 2011, and he had the two seizures, and we thought it was going to make him fall back completely — but he came back and hit us with Rich Forever, ” MTV News senior hip-hop writer Rob Markman pointed out during the Hottest debate. Want to join the debate? Just hit us on Twitter using the hashtag #HottestMC! The truth is, Rozay’s 2011 reign didn’t hinge on an album release. The Bawse set things up properly in February of last year when he signed his Maybach Music Group record label over to Warner Music Group and scooped up newcomer Meek Mill (this year’s #7 Hottest MC ), Wale (#10) and later Stalley. Musically, Ricky Ro put his team in position to dominate with the label compilation Self Made, Vol. 1. Rather than taking all the shine, Ross passed the baton to Meek, who delivered “Ima Boss” and “Tupac Back.” Wale contributed the rhythmic gem “That Way,” and even ousted MMG spitter Pill logged serious miles on the LP. HOT STREAK Album: Self Made, Vol. 1, with Maybach Music Group Selected Mixtapes: Rich Forever Singles: “You the Boss” (featuring Nicki Minaj), “I Love My Bitches” Street Bangers: “9 Piece” (featuring Lil Wayne), “Stay Schemin’ ” (featuring Drake and French Montana), “Yella Diamonds” Key Guest Appearances: DJ Khaled’s “I’m on One,” Meek Mill’s “Ima Boss,” Lil Wayne’s “John,” French Montana’s “Shot Caller” remix, Drake’s “Lord Knows” Meteoric Metrics: Ross established his Maybach Music Group brand as its CEO when he notched two #1 rap albums with Wale’s Ambition and MMG’s Self Made, Vol. 1 Business Ventures: Despite having a solo deal with Def Jam, Ross bossed up and took his MMG label to Warner Music Group, signing Wale, Meek Mill and Stalley. Tours: Rozay joined Wayne on his I Am Still Music Tour Monumental Moment: Ross is no stranger to success as a solo artist, but after he signed his MMG label to Warner, he truly became a boss! Forecast: To be able to dominate 2011 without a solo album released is an amazing feat for Ross. With God Forgives, I Don’t on the way and a possible collabo mixtape with Drake, the Double-M-Genius may be going for the repeat. “You wouldn’t even know that he didn’t have an album out [early last year], because he was all over the radio,” said Rahman Dukes, director of hip-hop news at MTV News. Whether on his own singles (“You the Boss,” “I Love My Bitches”) or on tracks that he was featured on, the M-I-Yayo MC turned in multiple unforgettable performances. “Ima Boss” was technically Meek’s song, but the casual listener may have missed that fact. Lil Wayne’s “John” was basically a remix of the 2010 Ross track “I’m Not a Star,” and on the summer anthem “I’m on One,” Rozay flexed his muscle alongside Drake and Weezy. “Rick Ross makes raw records, he makes street records. When he gets on a verse, his beat selection is impeccable,” MTV Jams’ Tuma Basa said, before pointing to Ross’ star-making ability with Meek and Wale. “He’s making other people hot, and these are people, without Ross, may not have been on this list. They’re on this list thanks to Ross.” It’s deeper than rap with the Double-M-Genius. Beyond the studio, the Bawse proved his worth in the boardroom as well. “I don’t think any artist did a better job of branding than Rick Ross,” said MTV RapFix blog editor Nadeska Alexis. “He was just a marketing genius this year, and you gotta give it to the man.” Ross meets all the criteria to be considered the Hottest MC in the Game. His impact is irrefutable: Even without a solo album, he maintained a healthy and consistent buzz throughout the year, notching a #1 rap album with his Self Made compilation. Lyrically, Rozay has grown from his “Hustlin’ ” days and become one of the game’s most celebrated spitters, and his swag is through the roof. Check his big-boned, shirtless confidence, immaculately groomed beard and top-of-the-line designer-sunglass collection. If that weren’t enough, the rotund Rozay cemented his #1 spot in January when he dropped his free 19-song Rich Forever mixtape. While there is no SoundScan or Billboard chart that can measure its impact, with Rich Forever, Ross proved in this era of overdone crossover singles that rap still rules. “Rick Ross, I think, provides hope to that MC, to that kid growing up who just wants to rap and make street music and say, ‘You know what? In this world where hip-hop has become pop, you can still just rap,’ ” Markman said. Insert Rick Ross grunt here! What do you think of our list? Chris Brown Pickup Line: I Promise I Won’t Beat You!

We’re not kidding. This report may be false, but according to Us Weekly , Chris Brown used that vile line on a girl he was attempting to pick up recently. The alleged quote: “”Can I get your number? I promise I won’t beat you!” Brown’s rep said: “I’d be surprised if Chris said something that stupid.” We would have to agree. If he did say that, it would defy comprehension … even more than things Chris normally does like tell haters to f–k off on Twitter. Brown, who pleaded guilty in 2009 to felony assault for hitting then-girlfriend Rihanna, reportedly used the line on an attractive brunette on February 10. The setting was the Lasio Professional Hair Care suite Grammy gift lounge. After he supposedly said it, a witness says, “He and his friends laughed about it, then one yelled, ‘That’s his new line!’ Ugh! I wanted to throw up!” It’s unclear if the brunette accepted Chris’ request. We honestly don’t believe this. Chris has big-time rage issues, and could do a lot better at taking responsibility, showing remorse and simply shutting up . He seems to fly off the handle only when provoked, however, and such a brazen remark seems a tad uncharacteristic, even if Chris is far from perfect. We can see him fuming at “haters,” which is what seems to set him off every now and then, but not joking about beating girls to their faces. Come on, Us . Chris has work to do, but spreading rumors like this is just as bad as his recent tirade. Legitimate criticism is one thing; slander another.

Monica Lewinsky Back in Spotlight in New Clinton Documentary

Monica Lewinsky has tried to keep a low profile after her role in President Bill Clinton’s impeachment scandal, but she’s become a trending topic of discussion again. All thanks to PBS’ two-part, four-hour documentary, titled Clinton . The documentary, which premieres Monday as part of PBS’ “American Experience” series, sheds new light on Clinton’s Oval Office affair with his then-23-year-old intern through interviews with some of Clinton’s closest advisers. Some of whom had never spoken publicly about the affair until now. Among the former White House staffers appearing on film are Secretary of Labor Robert Reich and Clinton’s former reelection campaign manager, Dick Morris. In the film, Morris reveals, “When the Lewinsky scandal broke the President paged me and I returned the call. And he said to me, ‘Ever since I got here to the White House I’ve had to shut my body down, sexually I mean.” “But I screwed up with this girl. I didn’t do what they said I did, but I may have done so much that I can’t prove my innocence.'” Though she plays a huge role in the story of Bill Clinton’s presidency, Monica Lewinsky herself was not interviewed for the movie. Producer Barak Goodman said that, “We felt it would tilt [the documentary] toward sensationalism.” After the scandal, Lewinsky went through a period of alternately embracing and avoiding her celebrity, but in recent years has been off the media grid. In 2005, she left the U.S. and moved to London, attending the London School of Economics and graduating with a masters in social psychology in 2006. While she has given interviews on the subject, most notably in an HBO special titled “Monica in Black and White,” she has kept an extremely low profile. Clinton is the latest in a series of in-depth documentaries PBS has produced over the years focusing on the often tumultuous careers of U.S. presidents. The TV premiere takes place Monday, but PBS has made the first part of the documentary available on its website. A trailer for the film appears below: Clinton Documentary Preview

My name is Victoria. I’m from a really small European…

My name is Victoria. I’m from a really small European country, Hungary. I’ve been a huge Belieber since 2009. This year I bought every single German newspapers that talked about Justin, and with my friend, Begi, made the first Hungarian fan site for Justin. Working on our site was like breath taking for me. I wrote like 10-20 articles about Justin every day, and I really wanted to show the Hungarian teenagers, who, and how incredible Justin is. In the summer of 2010, I’ve begun to work alone on the site, and I had like 2400 visitors every day. In August, I’d got a message from Jayme, he told me, that he wants me to be the news-writer of the Official Hungarian Justin Bieber Fansite, and I said yes. Here begins my Bieber Experience. On the 1st April of 2011 my dad drove 15 hours for me, to see Justin in Berlin, Germany. The next day I went to the O2 Arena, and Jayme (he flew to Germany too) told me, that he’s got a M&G ticket for me, for my hard work on the site. I thought, that I only gotta see Justin at the show so I freaked out. Before the meet & greet, I met DJ Tay James and saw Dan Kanter with Fredo too. There’s a video of fans running to Dan on Youtube, fortunately I have some screenshots of me with Dan. During the meet & greet, Justin was behind a black curtain. I first saw Kenny, then Justin. He said hi to us, then talked a little with Jayme (they already met in 2010). I was standing next to Justin, just staring at his face, and realizing that I wasn’t dreaming. Then came the best 2 seconds of my life. Justin grabbed my waist, pulled me closer and we looked in the camera. I just wanted to stay forever next to him. Jayme, and the another girl already left the room, but I was still standing there with Justin. We’ve been the last group with meet & greet tickets, so Kenny looked at me with a, “move bitch face” (LOL), so I took a step and looked back to Justin. Really slowly, but I left the room. I wasn’t crying/fan-girling like the others though. I remember the first phrase I said after the meet & greet was like, “Oh my f**king God, that kid is beautiful.” After the amazing show, I was hanging out with Jayme, and the dancers, Aja, Mike and Nick for a little bit. We forgot to take some pictures. The next day I realized, that I’m the first Hungarian girl who met Justin, well, this time I was crying. My 2nd Bieber Experience was on the 15th November, 2011. My dad drove this time 17 hours to Cologne, Germany. My friend, Fanny and I had 2 tickets for the German X-Factor . Before the show, we bought 2 Under The Mistletoe CDs, then went to the X-Factor studio. We’ve just standing behind the fences with some fans, and then we saw a huge black car at the parking place. Justin, Fredo, Moshe (white Kenny), Kenny, and Dan ran into the studio. After like a half hour they came back, and Justin waved to us, but he had no time to greet us , and stuff like that. That night Justin performed at 2 German TV shows, so after the first one he came back to the X-Factor, and sang Mistletoe on stage. It was awesome, my German friends, Mandy and Vanessa helped us a lot, they are the reason why we had seats on the first row. I just want to tell you guys, that I’m really blessed because my dad is awesome, without him, I had no chance to meet, or see Justin. I’m still writing news about Justin on  http://justin-bieber.hu  , and organizing fan-meetings, buyouts, and competitions for Beliebers, I really love it. I never thought, that someday my dream will come true, and I feel really blessed, cause I’m still the only one girl, who met Justin from my country. I reached the only thing, I wanted with hard work, and cool parents. Never Say Never guys! -@VictoriaKanter See the original post here: My name is Victoria. I’m from a really small European…

My name is Janessa & I love Justin and every single person…

My name is Janessa & I love Justin and every single person in the Bieber Crew! My Bieber Experience didn’t unfortunately involve Justin, but someone who we all know was the prime reason he is here for us. The man, yep Scott “Scooter” Braun. I met Scooter at The Wanted’s concert in LA. I had a big feeling he was going to be there because he kept RT’ing people talking about The Wanted and he kept tweeting about them himself. That day my friends (Nicole and Melissa) were standing by this curtain where we notice a lot of people with VIP passes kept coming in and out, so we decided to stand around to see who my come out, hoping the chances that one those could be Justin, lol. In the venue was a balcony which was considered the VIP section and I kept looking up to see if anyone cool was there; I seemed to notice this guy in particular, wearing a cap with a casual shirt and jeans so I elbow my friend Melissa and tell her “Dude imagine that’s Scooter?!” Not even 5 minutess went by, as I was stared down at my phone for a quick second, look up and BAM!!!! Right in front of me was Scooter Braun. I was like “OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” (deep down inside) but calmly I called his name twice and he turned around & I asked him a for a picture and he responded: I’m gonna go real quick with the guys (The Wanted) backstage wish them Good Luck and I promise when I come back I will take a picture with you”. Some of you might thing, “Oh my gosh he totally blew you off” but not at all. I wasn’t mad or anything, I was freaking out that he at least had the time to talk to me. So he was back there for about 15 mins and finally he came back out and then as he was talking to someone he said the guy, “Hold on”, I asked him “Is it okay to take a picture with you now? He’s like, “Of course”, so we took a picture and the first one came out really white because my phone is just horrible, so he’s like, “Do you want to take another one?” I gladly said “YES please?” So we did. I thanked him so much for taking a picture with me. After the concert he filled us in with some Bieber news, and told us that Believe was coming out so great, and that Justin has been working so hard for us and that night he was gonna work on something special with Drake. I was beyond stoked when he said that. I was like “Can you please let Justin know I appreciate everything he does for us” and gladly he said “I will relate the message”. The best part of that day was just simply talking to Scooter with no crazy screaming girls, it was just Scooter, Nicole, Melissa and I. I am so blessed to have met Scooter, because without Scooter we wouldn’t have the kid who we all know can just by one word, song, lyric, look makes our heart go knock knock.
