The two-day event featured discussions from prominent filmmakers, producers, and TV execs. Sunday, June 9 hosted Ava DuVernay and her brilliant team (Netflix VP Cindy Holland, founder of Tribeca Enterprises Jane Rosenthal, and executive producers Jonathan King and Berry Welsh) behind When They See Us, the four-part Netflix series surrounding the controversial case of the Central Park Five. For anyone who is unfamiliar, five innocent black and brown males (Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana Jr., Korey Wise and Yusef Salaam) were unjustly convicted of beating and raping a white woman in Central Park. DuVernay aimed to h During the panel, DuVernay said she was very grateful to be a filmmaker at a time when she can approach Netflix with an idea for four films, and even more so a company that allowed her to fly out Richardson, McCray, Santana Jr., Wise and Salaam to watch all four films together in what was a very emotional moment for everyone involved. “I remember the first frame of the episode came up and my stomach just dropped I said, ‘God please, please… please let them feel like this is right and they were honored here and that their stories were told and their families were depicted in the right way,’” revealed DuVernay. As for the men, they re-lived their entire journey over again. “ Imagine seeing yourself at the moment your whole life changed. The life of your family changed forever 30 years ago. They cried. They wept. The held onto each other. They wailed,” added DuVernay. “ I could see the light on their faces and there are just tears. I never thought I could see that many tears come out of a human being for five hours.” The incomparable @ava DuVernay talks the emotional moment screening “When The See Us” with the real life exonerated five at #Producedby2019 #Whentheyseeus #CentralPark5 pic.twitter.com/EzYkoj2Jvu — Sade A Spence (@SadeASpence) June 10, 2019 DuVernay and her team also discussed the challenges of bringing the 1989 court case back to the forefront and using it as means of highlighting America’s incredibly flawed justice system. “The first episode will be about this portion of the case, but also show everyone what it feels like to be arrested as a young black boy,” said DuVernay. “How it feels to be in a precinct and precinct behavior, the kinds of behavior we are hearing are happening in precincts around the country as it relates to black and brown people.” DuVernay also explained with great detail the plan she proposed for films two through four: “The second episode we are going to talk about bail and the fact that we have a debtor’s prison in this country. The fact that there are ppl in prison who are poor and innocent and there are people who are not in prison who are rich and guilty. We’ll talk about judges and juries and district attorneys and prosecutors. The third episode, we will talk about juvenile detention… How we’re locking up children in this country and putting them with adults and walking away in this country and then we will talk about the horrors of incarceration. And folks won’t even know we are talking about this because we are talking about this very famous case.” When They See Us is currently airing on Netflix. Though reports have said that Kylie Jenner and Jordyn Woods are repairing their friendship behind Khloe’s back , Kylie’s recent post tells another story. She honored her bestie, Stassie Karanikolaou, on her birthday. But Kylie took things one step further — and threw some cruel shade in the direction of her former friend, Jordyn. Ouch . “Happy birthday to the baddest @stassiebaby,” Kylie Jenner gushed on Instagram. Stassie Karanikolaou turned 22 years old on Sunday, June 9. Kylie followed her opening line with a string of emojis, including birthday horns and red hearts. “9 years Iater,” Kylie remarked. “And you’re still a real one.” Kylie’s affectionate message concluded: “I love you forever and always.” The black and white photo that Kylie selected to accompany her kind words featured Stassie’s butt fairly prominently. But not even that booty pic could distract Kylie’s fans and followers from Kylie’s words. The line about “9 years later” is a clear reference to their enduring friendship, which began when they were just tweens. But “and you’re still a real one” is hard to view as neutral praise in this context. Why? Because everyone has to be thinking about Jordyn’s absence, which means that Kylie may be implying that Jordyn was just a fake friend. Interestingly, Kylie and Stassie happened to be at the same place as their ex-friend over the weekend. Kylie announced to her fans that she was spending a “Bestie birthday weekend” with Stassie. The pair went to West Hollywood’s Bootsy Bellows nightclub, sharing snaps the entire night. Jordyn Woods was also spotted there, though Jordyn for some reason elected to now share any pics, and didn’t show up in any of their photos. Coincidence? A little light stalking of your ex besties? Or does this lend credence to reports that Kylie and Jordyn and mending their shattered friendship, but keeping it hidden from Khloe? As we previously reported, there are whispers that Kylie and Jordyn are very quietly patching things up. “Their relationship is on the road to recovery,” an insider reported just days ago. That said, she’s apparently not rushing things. According to the source: “Kylie knows the separation from Jordyn will help both of them — and Kylie’s family — to heal.” That makes sense — and would explain why they’d avoid any photos together. In the mean time, Jordyn may be in no great hurry to to once again be glued at the hip to Kylie. “Jordyn has been trying to show the world that she isn’t riding on the Jenner-Kardashian coattails any longer,” the insider explained. She wasn’t just besties with Kylie — they were like sisters. We would like to believe that the fractured friendship can be repaired, but we don’t know if ti’s really happening. What we do know is that we hope that Stassie was paying close attention when Kylie suddenly severed all ties with Jordyn. She did it because of Khloe’s temper tantrum. Because Khloe wanted someone safe to blame after she chose to have a baby with a known cheater. Stassie and Kylie may be like sisters, but when the Kardashians talk about “the power of family,” they’re talking about blood relations. For the 3,679th time, it must be said: People on the Internet can really suck. The latest evident of this unfortunate fact can be traced back to a photo Audrey Roloff shared on Instagram this week. The former Little People, Big World star – who walked away from that TLC series along with her husband last summer – loves nothing more than to post cute photos of her daughter, Ember. On Monday, this is exactly what Audrey thought she was doing when she put up the snapshot below. As you’re about to see, it features little Ember behind the wheel of a tractor on Roloff Farms, the sun setting in the background, a smile plastered on the toddler’s face. “The Farmer’s daughter. Oh hey June in Helvetia. You can find us here all summer long,” wrote Roloff as a caption, adding: “Riding mules, chasing chickens, picking wildflowers, covered in berry stains and freckles, and watching sunsets by the embers. On repeat.” Despite this being pretty much what social media ought to be made for (adorable pictures of young kids having fun), Audrey has been somewhat roasted by a bunch of judgmental followers. Can you guess why? Probably not, right? It’s actually because Ember is… sitting behind the wheel of a tractor. “Get her away from there right this instant, r u nuts?!?” wrote one annoyed user. Added another: “You’re just asking for a dangerous accident there. #thinktwicemama.” And then a third: “Shame on U, Audrey. What if she fell and got run over?” Crazy, right? That total strangers would take a mother to task for this? But it’s actually happened before… to the Roloffs, no less! As you may have heard by now, Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk have called it quits after four years of dating. The official account holds that there was no major drama, and the couple just drifted apart — but fans aren’t buying that narrative. The public always favors the most dramatic possible explanation for any celebrity breakup, and this time, they didn’t have to look very far in their search for potential drama. Ever since Cooper and Gaga’s intimate performance at the Oscars , there have been constant rumors that the collaborators started banging on the set of A Star Is Born and only tore themselves away long enough to make the occasional red carpet appearance. Not long after the film’s release, Gaga called off her engagement to Christian Carino , a development which added further grist to the rumor mill. Unless Gaga and Cooper officially announce that they’re a couple (which is the outcome the entire internet seems to be rooting for), we’ll probably never know for sure if there’s anything more than a platonic friendship between them. You guessed it — the suspiciously close offscreen relationship between Jackson Mayne and Ally. “Irina gets that he has to spend time with her, but she finds it totally inappropriate that he’s seeing so much of her at such odd hours,” an insider said last year when Brad and Lady were promoting A Star Is Born . “She’s very threatened by the situation.” One source claims the final straw for Shayk was an awards season photo in which a smudge of Gaga’s bright red lipstick could be seen on Cooper’s face. The couple reportedly tried to work things out for several months after the pic leaked, but this week, Shayk moved out of the home she had been sharing with Cooper.
