For those who are unaware, Crystal had just been released from prison for tax fraud and was still on probation when she cast a provisional ballot for the 2016 election. She was unaware of a Texas law that stated that she was not allowed to vote due to her criminal status. Thus, she was sentenced to more time in the bing. According to HuffPo , Crystal is seeking a new trial to be released and the ACLU and Texas Civil Rights Project have stepped in to help her. Mason’s lawyers told the Court of Appeals in November she deserves a new trial because the statute she was convicted under is vague, and that the ballot she cast ultimately did not count since it was a provisional ballot. They also argue that she received ineffective counsel from her trial attorney. Oral argument is set for the case on June 4 in Fort Worth. “The prosecution of Crystal Mason for the innocent mistake of casting a provision ballot that wasn’t even counted is a severe injustice,” Andre Segura, an attorney with the ACLU of Texas who will help represent Mason, said in a statement. “Ms. Mason simply attempted to follow the law and participate in what she believed to be her civic duty, and in return has been sentenced to an outrageous length of time in prison.” This country is full of s#!t.

The comedian has just been announced as the new host for ABC’s revival of Kids Say the Darndest Things, a title previously held by Bill Cosby from 1998 to 2000. Haddish is also set to serve as executive producer on the series, which will feature her chatting and with kids just like the original series. The show will be taped in front of a live studio audience and will feature both in-studio segments and bits taped all over the country. “When I was dreaming of stars I wanted to bring to ABC, Tiffany Haddish was top of my list,” the network’s entertainment president Karey Burke told Variety . “Tiffany starring in and producing this iconic series is everything I hoped for.” On the topic of some of the segments the show will offer for the upcoming reboot, ABC listed the following: ‘Kids Rule,’ in which kids explain to Tiffany the rules for everything from sportsmanship to dating; ‘Love Talk,’ where Tiffany seeks advice on her love life; ‘Best Carpool Ever,’ with Tiffany taking on carpool duty with a minivan full of kids; ‘Granny Tiff,’ when Tiffany, in prosthetics and dressed up as an older woman, receives technology advice from the kids; and more.” Tiffany is looking forward to series herself, telling the publication how she’s excited to see what kids are saying these days since she has no idea what they’re saying online. Reports Arizona Sports : Phoenix Suns forward Josh Jackson was arrested in Miami Gardens, Fla., and charged with resisting arrest and escape while attending the Rolling Loud music festival over the weekend. Miami-Dade County police records show that Joshua O’Neal Jackson, born Feb. 10, 1997, was arrested on a felony charge of escape with a misdemeanor for resisting an officer’s arrest without violence. Jackson posted a $1,000 bond on Saturday. Reportedly, Jackson tried to run off on the cops while handcuffed. He is due back in court on June 10. Yes, there is a mugshot. Son! No pun intended. Source: Paras Griffin / Getty NBA YoungBoy Arrested After Daytime Shooting In Front Of Trump Hotel According to FOX News reports, shots rang out Sunday near a Trump beachside hotel, where NBA YoungBoy and his entourage were later identified as being on the scene. It’s unclear at this point what NBA YoungBoy’s exact involvement might’ve been, but multiple eyewitnesses say someone opened fire on him. The gunfire killed 43-year-old Mohamad Jradi, who was sitting in his van across the street from the resort. Jradi was just leaving work to celebrate Mother’s Day with his family when a bullet struck him in the head. Another bullet grazed a 5-year-old boy who was treated and released by paramedics at the scene. As a result, YB was detained along with 7 others at the scene. It’s unclear what each person is charged with at this time. NBA YB’s girlfriend, 19-year-old Kaylyn Marie Long, was hit in the shoulder during the shooting, she is now in stable condition and recovering. Boseman is excited to use his artistry as an avenue to bring Yasuke’s story to the forefront. “The legend of Yasuke is one of history’s best kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai,” he said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “That’s not just an action movie, that’s a cultural event, an exchange, and I am excited to be part of it.” There is no word on when the film is slated to be released.
