J ussie Smollett ‘s career has taken a huge hit since he was accused of staging a hate crime. This week, it was reported that Smollett is no longer considered to play the lead role in the Broadway revival of “ Take Me Out ,” which is about a about a mixed-race baseball. Also, there have been several reports that this will be Smollett last season on “Empire.” Now, his older brother, JoJo Smollett is speaking out in an essay for BET . He slams the Chicago Police Department, the Osundairo brothers and the court of public opinion. See Also: Complete Timeline Of Jussie Smollett Investigation In the lengthy essay , JoJo writes, “Within less than three months, his life has been turned upside down as my family and I have witnessed him endure unrelenting attacks to his character and reputation. Like so many others, this entire process quickly devolved from a focus on him as a victim of assault, to him being falsely accused and held responsible for a crime that was perpetrated against him. To define this experience as unjust would be an understatement.” He also takes aim at the Osundairo brothers, accusing them of changing their story, “Jussie had already refused to sign a complaint against the Osundarios, convinced that these men, one who he had considered a friend and the other an acquaintance, could not be his attackers. Most importantly, detectives refused to show Jussie video, photos, or any evidence to prove they were the attackers. The fact that these two brothers, who in the final hour confessed to attacking my brother yet say it was Jussie who told them to, is all the evidence that the police and the general public needed to be convinced, should be frightening to everyone.” He continued, “With not one inkling of solid evidence, many believed the false witness testimony from two suspects who turned into witnesses, even though they lacked standard credibility. It was under-reported that one of the “witnesses” had previously been arrested for attempted murder ending with a plea deal for aggravated battery, or that the brothers repeatedly expressed homophobia on their social media in the past. Additionally, it was never reported that they changed their story while under police interrogation.” Olabinjo Osundairo was charged with attempted murder in 2011. The Chicago Sun-Times reported two months ago, “Court records show that Olabinjo Osundairo was charged with attempted murder in a 2011 stabbing that occurred in the 4200 block of North Ashland. That is less than a block from the home that police raided in the Smollett investigation, where they recovered personal effects, including cell phones, a source said.” Olabinjo Osundairo allegedly reached a plea deal “with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to aggravated battery; he was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $674 fine.” JoJo rips into the Chicago Police Department, pointing out their inconsistencies, “The Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department announced publicly that Jussie’s motive in staging an attack was so he could make more money from ‘Empire.’ Fox immediately said that wasn’t true but the police chief never withdrew his accusation. The chief also stated as fact that Jussie had sent himself the threatening letter that arrived at the ‘Empire’ production offices weeks before the attack. The FBI then refuted this claim. Again, the chief did not correct his accusations. On Jan. 29, while walking to a subway, Smollett claimed two men yelled racial and homophobic slurs at him, investigators told The Hollywood Reporter . They allegedly punched and poured bleach on him while one of the suspects put a rope around his neck. As they fled the scene, Smollett told police they said, “This is MAGA country.” The city of Chicago is now suing Smollett for a half a million dollars. Kim Foxx , the Cook County State Attorney, has been attacked by the Chicago Police and is calling for a prob into the 16 felony counts being dropped. Jussie Smollett has maintained his innocence. S tudents from Spelman College showed up and showed out at the annual Honda Campus All-Star Challenge National Championship Tournament in California. According to HBCU Buzz , students from the school won the competition and took a $75,000 institutional grant back to Atlanta. The Spelman team—whose players included Ariana Benson , Jessika Agyepong , Naomi Steplight , and Maati McKinney —beat 47 other HBCUs to take home the title. Daniel Bascelli served as the team’s coach. “Winning itself isn’t the only reward. It’s about bringing these students together and watching them represent their school in the best possible way,” Bascelli said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “The spirit at Spelman is really strong. If you talk to the students, the feeling for Spelman, the feeling for HCBCUs and the support that Honda gives them is all a part of the pride that they feel.” Florida A&M University, Jackson State University and Morehouse College rounded out the top four. The competition, which has been in existence for 30 years, was created as an avenue for Honda to make an impact in the lives of students who attend historically Black colleges and universities. “Through HCASC, students are given an opportunity to demonstrate the value of their HBCU experience, represent their schools on a national stage, and connect with like-minded peers,” Steve Morikawa , VP of Corporate Relations and Social Responsibility, American Honda, said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating the HCASC legacy and the friendships we’ve made over the past 30 years.” Through the competition, Honda has awarded $8 million in grants to HBCUs and 125,000 students have participated. A teen from Georgia is turning his tragedy into triumph and is living proof that with hard work and perseverance it’s possible to beat the odds. According to Inside Edition Tre Lawson —a track star who was paralyzed after a car accident—is aiming to get back to running. Tre Lawson is on a mission to run again — and hopefully inspire others in the process https://t.co/9xf5x2SyWH — News4JAX (@wjxt4) April 20, 2019 At one point Lawson, who attended Westside High School, was one of the top track athletes in the country, but things took a tragic turn in 2017. After winning a track meet, he got into a car with a group of friends and the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle went off the road and crashed. Lawson suffered serious injuries including damage done to his head, abdomen, and spinal cord. He woke up in the hospital nearly a month after the accident occurred. “It was a huge depressing moment. I thought maybe this is the last time I’ll be able to run again, my career is over. I was wondering if the coaches would still be interested in me even if I recover in due time,” he told the news outlet. “Looking at the four walls of the hospital room, you become depressed really quickly.” Although it took a while for Lawson to come to terms with what had happened, he ultimately decided he wouldn’t let his circumstances defeat him. He was motivated to get back on the track. He went through a rigorous rehabilitation program at the Shepherd Center based in Atlanta. Day after day Lawson went hard with his strength training so that he wouldn’t have to be confined to a wheelchair. He recently got back on the track at his high school with a walker and was able to walk 200 meters in 30 minutes. He says that the accident has inspired him to focus on the positive aspects of life. “Every day isn’t a sunny day. You have to have rain in order to have a rainbow some days.” Lawson has launched his own nonprofit organization for patients at the Shepherd Center. SEE ALSO: T.I. Hunter reportedly stepped down from his position as executive producer. “Kevin Hunter is no longer an executive producer on ‘The Wendy Williams Show.” a rep for Wendy told TMZ . To add insult to injury, Wendy also (allegedly) had his gold Maserati towed hours after photos of Hunter’s mistress driving the luxury mobile surfaced on the net. Since filing for divorce, Wendy has seemed chipper in spirits and even rekindled her friendship with former colleague Charlamagne Tha God, who offered to take her to dinner. While discussing her stint with sobriety, Wendy revealed she is working on a “new life” for her and her son and that getting clean was the best thing to happen to her. Eva quickly checked her co-host Gary With The Tea, who joked about domestic violence. “Domestic violence is very real,” she said. He continued to ask Eva if she was the woman in the latest domestic violence incident. “No it wasn’t me, I’m married Gary. It’s not funny.” “He was extremely violent and physically abusive,” she explained. Eva grew emotional explaining she wasn’t in love with Kevin per say and how the abuse began when she was pregnant with her daughter Marley. “It didn’t start for me until I was pregnant with Marley,” she said. “About a month after having Marley, it didn’t stop. It got worse. It got worse with her. The final straw, when Marley was actually in my arms. And I was like I can’t do this anymore.” Kevin was booked on one felony count of injuring a spouse or cohabitant, Page Six has confirmed. According to Eva McCall was abusive to his other baby’s mother, the woman after her and now his most current mate. Eva recently shared that she frequently moves homes to protect her from McCall, whom she has a restraining order against. We’re going to need McCall to get his life together. Devastating news today out of the entertainment industry: Mya-Lecia Naylor, a British actress best known for her roles on the programs Almost Never and Millie Inbetween, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday. She was 16 years old. The tragedy was confirmed late Wednesday evening by CBBC, which released the following statement: We are so sorry to have to tell you that Mya-Lecia, who you will know from ‘Mille Inbetween’ and ‘Almost Never’, has very sadly died. Mya-Lecia was a much loved part of the BBC Children’s family, and a hugely talented actress, singer and dancer. We will miss her enormously and we are sure that you will want to join us in sending all our love to her family and friends. It remains unclear at this time just what caused the death of this rising British star. In a statement of her own to E! News, Alice Webb, Director at BBC Childrens said the following: “We are distraught and so terribly sad to hear the news about Mya. She has shone so brightly on our screens, both in Millie Inbetween and Almost Never, and it’s unthinkable that she won’t be part of our journey going forward. “She was hugely popular with our audience, a very talented actress, dancer and singer, and a real role model for her young fans.” All we can verify at the moment, courtesy of Naylor’s agents, A&J Management, is that the young actress collapsed prior to her passing. Aside from her acting credits, Naylor was an aspiring model and singer. She got her start as a toddler on the beloved British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. From there, Mya-Lecia booked roles in television movies and miniseries before landing her biggest role on the CBBC series Millie Inbetween. Following four years on the show, she transitioned over to the CBBC comedy/drama Almost Never. The official Instagram account for this latter series also mourned Naylor’s death last night, sharing the photo below along with a heartfelt statement that reads: Our thoughts are with Mya-Lecia’s family, friends and everyone that loved her at this very sad time. RIP Mya-Lecia. Many other tributes have also been posted online. For example, this is what I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here star Emily Atack, who previously worked with Naylor, wrote: She was a beautiful and talented girl. A complete joy to be around on the set of Almost Never. Sending all my love to her family & friends. Rest in peace beautiful girl.
