Crazy how that works. A Sun-Sentinel article details how Boca Raton cop Jeremy Codling was fired earlier this year after it was revealed that he used the n-word and frequently told racist and offensive jokes in the presence of Black officers. Initially, only disciplinary action was taken in the form of demotion, pay reduction, and a written letter of apology. Nine days after his demotion, it was discovered that Codling lied about his behavior under oath in addition to storing several pornographic images and websites on his department-issued computer. After being fired on March 5, somehow this d-bag with a badge has been granted a second chance to be an officer of the law. Codling has been given a “last chance,” she said, because significant disciplinary action was taken, he had no previous complaints of racism and if he messes up, he’ll be out of a job, again. “The final part of the discipline is a legal document in which the officer and city agree that that if the officer exhibits any similar behavior in the future, he will be terminated,” Gibson said. Translation: He used to be such a good boy prior to his racism that we just HAD to give him another chance. Source: Getty / Getty Pregnant Mother Of Two Dies In Mississippi Police Custody A Mississippi woman has died in police custody while awaiting trial , and her family wants answers that county officials simply aren’t giving. According to WJTV , 37-year-old Lanekia Michelle Brown had been in the Madison County Jail since shortly after Thanksgiving. She was being held without bond while awaiting trial for a Trafficking of a Controlled Substance charge after she and a male companion were pulled over for careless driving and found with 103 pounds of marijuana in their car’s trunk. Lanekia was a mother of two and was reportedly three to four weeks pregnant with her third child. State Troopers told her mother that she complained of stomach pains, so a nurse was sent to check on her. However, by the time the nurse arrived she had already passed away . The most disturbing part of this story is the fact that Lanekia’s family was not immediately permitted to collect her belongings or identify her body. Brown’s mother and other family members drove over to the Madison County detention facility on Sunday immediately after they were informed of the incident, to do all the aforementioned and get more information about her passing. However, when they arrived they were told to return on Wednesday, Dec. 26th and given no further information on how Lanekia passed. The family suspects foul play, as they say that if Lanekia had any health concerns, she would have been forthcoming and let them know. They report that she was in fine health prior to being taken into custody and never reported any discomfort or health issues when speaking to them. As a Liberian immigrant who came from humble beginnings, he sees a lot of parallels between he and Walker’s story and believes that the incubator will be a way to pay homage to the woman who was our country’s first Black woman self-made millionaire. “The Dennis family wants to make sure that Madam Walker’s legacy continues not only through the hair care products but also through this beautiful home that was intended by Madam Walker as a place that would inspire others,” Walker’s great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles told the news outlet. “They embody it themselves and they understand why it is important for other people to be able to share the vibrations that come from that house.” The home was constructed 100 years ago by Black architect Vertner Tandy . Source: ugurhan / Getty 19-Year-Old Crashes After Driving Drunk Following 12 Drinks At A Bar A Texas teenager accused of causing a fatal car accident that killed a young mother allegedly consumer 12 drinks before he got behind the wheel, according to multiple reports. 23-year-old Taylor Phillips was killed on Sunday night after Erick Hernandez, 19, allegedly crashed into her SUV. Hernandez allegedly crossed three lanes of traffic while driving drunk before the collision, the Houston Chronicle along with local stations KPRC and ABC13 report. Hernandez has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. On Wednesday, prosecutors allegedly said that a video from inside a bar showed Hernandez consuming 12 drinks, which included three tequila shots, over the course of six hours before he got into his truck to drive off. He was allegedly never asked for his ID despite being underage, which is how he recieved so many drinks. Five employees of the bar— four bartenders and one manager — were arrested for allegedly serving the teenager alcohol. Court documents obtained by the outlets show that the bar allegedly didn’t even have a liquor license and was only allowed to serve beer and wine at their facility. “Literally one minute after he left (the bar), he took the life of Ms. Phillips,” explained Sean Teare, Chief of the Vehicular Crimes Division in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, according to reports from KPRC. “Right now there are Christmas presents under a tree for a mother who will never open them, a child who will never know his mother because of the irresponsible actions of all six individuals charged in this tragedy.” Philips’s mother, Carmen Rainer, told ABC13 on the night of the crash the Philips, her mother, and her 1-year-old son were driving home after a weekend of visiting family in New Orleans. Hernandez appeared in court on Wednesday and is now out of jail on a $30,000 bond. It is unclear whether he has an attorney and he has not entered a plea.
As you may recall from our The Voice finale recap , the Season 15 winner was nothing if not a controversial choice. (Just a head's up: the tweets we've harvested from the internet definitely contain spoilers on that front) The fact that the contestants who had been hitting it out of the park week after week were suddenly falling behind struck viewers as odd. Some suspected a conspiracy — rigging — at the network. Others suspected that racism was responsible. Some thought that it was both. It's clear that Twitter would have chosen a very different winner than The Voice did. And a lot of folks are so upset that they've vowed to never again allow the NBC competition series to darken their screens. 1. The Voice announced its Season 15 winner … Chevel Shepherd, a white teenage yodeler, won. Viewers could not believe their eyes or ears. 2. Even Sunny Hostin couldn’t contain her shock Some would say that this is the most in-touch with Americans that any The View host has been in a while. 3. The results were difficult to miss A lot of people felt that, consciously or unconsciously, The Voice’s winners won because of their race. 4. Others washed their hands of the show A lot of people vowed to stop watching The Voice. We’ll see how many stick to that promise. 5. Did the audience’s votes even count? A lot of reality competitions are “rigged” in that the show will maneuver some contestants to stay longer. Continuing, Thomas expresses bewilderment: “I am not sure why it is happening.” Imagine seeing a sunburnt guy laying out in the sun, wondering why he keeps getting sunburns. It's because of what you're doing right now, idiot. “I [have] been reaching out,” Thomas claims. “I have been trying to reach out for several weeks,” Thomas reports. “Every day [I] send a text,” he says. “I just haven't got anything back.” There is a more than decent chance that whatever number he's contacting isn't being seen by Meghan, at Meghan's own request. “I just keep asking for her to respond back to me,” Thomas whines. “And I haven't got any response back.” “I have sent letters,” he adds. What's next? Messenger pigeons? Telegrams? Skywriting? In addition to appearing baffled as to why his total inability to shut up has caused his daughter to ghost him, Thomas says he wants in. “There has to be a place for me,” Thomas imagines. He wants to be in Meghan's life, even though every one of his actions says otherwise. Thomas apparently thinks that their familial relation should somehow excuse his behavior, saying: “I'm her father.” He wants to be involved with future generations of the family, too. “I will be the grandfather to the children,” Thomas points out. Biologically, he will be their grandfather. Socially? Not if he keeps giving interviews and blabbing to anyone who will listen. “All I can say is that I'm here,” Thomas says. “She knows it,” he continues. “And I've reached out to her.” In the past, he tried passing off a letter on Doria Ragland, Meghan's mother, to give to Meghan. These days, it looks like Doria isn't taking his calls, either. Thomas says that he's hurt “and I need her to reach back to me.” “I love her very much,” Thomas claims. At one point in the long, long interview — of which we have only included several minutes, for your sakes — he addresses Meghan directly. “I love you very much, you're my daughter and I'd really like to hear from you,” Thomas pleads. “Whatever differences or problems we have,” he argues. “We should be able to work them out.” “We're family,” he says. “Please reach out to me.” He asks for help from more than just Meghan, however. Hilariously, Thomas even tries to address the Queen herself to intercede on this matter. “I would think that she would want to resolve family problems,” Thomas says. “All families, royal or otherwise, are the same.” They're really not. “And,” Thomas argues. “They should all be together certainly around the holidays.” It is when addressing the Queen that Thomas shows his true colors. Implied in his words is the promise that, if Meghan is simply forced to yield to his demands and give him whatever access he wants, he'll hush. That would be a welcome break from the scandal that his constant whining causes.
