Source: Taylor Hill / Getty On Tuesday, the CEO for Google, Sundar Pichai, found himself in an awkward situation when he had to explain Trump’s association with one particular word. According to The Verge , Pichai was being questioned at a House Judiciary Committee hearing where Congress people were trying to decide if Google manipulated search results based on political bias. When Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) stepped up to question Pichai, she wondered why pictures of Donald Trump were the first to show up when the word “idiot” was typed in Google image. “Right now, if you google the word ‘idiot’ under images, a picture of Donald Trump comes up. I just did that,” she said. “How would that happen?” Uuuum… Pichai was ready for Rep. Lofgren. He put forth a general explanation of how Google search engines work: “Any time you type in a keyword, as Google we have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of [websites’] pages in our index. And we take the keyword and match it against their pages and rank them based on over 200 signals — things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it. And based on that, at any given time, we try to rank and find the best search results for that query. And then we evaluate them with external raters, and they evaluate it to objective guidelines. And that’s how we make sure the process is working” Any further questions Lofgren??? Luckily, Lofgren was on Pichai’s side and was trying to refute the idea that Google’s search engine was politically motivated. She followed up with another question… “So it’s not some little man sitting behind the curtain figuring out what we’re going to show the user?” Lofgren asked sarcastically. Pichai replied, “This is working at scale, and we don’t manually intervene on any particular search result.” News outlets peeped the “idiot” Trump results earlier this year. They revealed that certain outside parties have something to do with Google’s search results. According to The Guardian , one reason Trump’s face is associated with the word “idiot” is because protesters used Green Day ‘s “American Idiot” song to soundtrack Trump’s trip to London. There’s also been an intentional campaign to associate Trump’s picture with the word by manipulating Google’s algorithms. A lot of this involved people up-voting a Reddit post containing a photo of him and the word “idiot.” Such tactics are known as “Google bombing.” Trump isn’t the first to get Google-bombed either. According The Verge , in the mid-2000s, searches for “miserable failure” notoriously returned results about President George W. Bush. So whether it’s Google bombers or natural Google algorithms, the word “idiot” and Trump can’t help but be linked together. What are ya gonna do. As you’ve probably heard by now, Meghan Markle is reportedly feuding with Kate Middleton . Some say the situation has gotten so dire that it’s begun to tear at the fabric of Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship. Reports of animosity between Kate and Meghan surface every few months, but this time, the rumor has lingered due to a series of events that seemed to lend credence to the theory that Meg’s not making many friends across the pond. First, in a rare move, Kensington Palace issued a statement on Kate and Meghan’s feud . Then came the royal housecleaning. In the span of a week, two members of Meghan’s staff left their posts in seemingly abrupt fashion. Assistant Melissa Toubati quit amidst reports that Meg had “terrorized” her and berated her in front of her co-workers. (Toubati has yet to address these rumors publicly.) Shortly thereafter, Meghan and Harry’s interim secretary Samantha Cohen announced that she would be stepping down after the birth of the Duchess’ baby. Of course, the keyword there is “interim.” As royal insiders have been pointing out, Cohen was never supposed to be a permanent fixture on Meghan and Harry’s staff. “She’s not leaving because of any drama with Meghan,” one insider tells Us Weekly. “She agreed to stay for six months to help post-wedding and because Meghan and Harry were hoping a baby would come soon after that and knew they needed extra help. “Samantha has a lot of respect for Harry and Meghan and enjoyed working for them. But her time is now up.” Okay. So this is the rare tabloid report that actually downplays the drama. The same piece featured insights from royal expert Omid Scobie who says he can’t fully deny the reports of Meghan’s unpopularity among royals and staffers, but he believes they’ve been greatly exaggerated: “I’m sure there are people in other royal households who don’t agree with some things that she does or with her delivery, and that is solely based on cultural differences,” Scobie says. “Americans are direct when it comes to business, and Brits are reserved,” he adds. “So, of course, some things can be misread at times. But I have yet to come across someone in the Kensington Palace household who has a bad word to say about Meghan.” Is that it? Is Meghan simply too American for royal life? Is it because of her pesky Americanness that she’s held to such a higher standard of behavior? We can’t imagine the British tabloid press losing its mind if Kate wore black nail polish . And it’s tough to picture The Sun teeing off on the Duchess of Cambridge form an improper curtsy . Sigh. Gather up your muskets, folks. We may have to fight another Revolutionary War. As pregnant Duchess Meghan Markle defies the monarchy , she may find that she needs new friends. It turns out that she won’t have to look far, because Kim Kardashian is reportedly angling to befriend her. Kim believes that the way to worm her way into Meghan’s life is by finding the perfect royal baby present. Heat magazine reports that Kim Kardashian has concocted a scheme to become besties with the Duchess of Sussex. “Meghan’s baby isn’t even born yet,” an insider points out. That’s true — Meghan Markle is due some time in April. “But,” the source says. “Kim is already brainstorming an OTT present.” In this context, OTT stands for over the top . “Which she hopes,” the insider elaborates. “Will seal her long-held ambition.” Apparently, the source says, it has been Kim’s fondest wish “to make Meg a friend.” “Money is no object,” Kim has reportedly said on the subject. Well, that’s more or less a given when it comes to Kim, who is wealthy even by her very rich family’s impressive standards. “The arrival of the royal baby will be a perfect time for her to remind Meghan and Harry that she and Kanye are thoughtful people,” the insider says. Well, Kim is very thoughtful. Kanye is … complicated. “And, the source notes. “She’s looking to stand out from all the other celebrities.” According to the insider, Kim wants to draw attention to herself “with something truly impressive.” No, she is not referring to her butt. Apparently, Kim is going above and beyond as she tries to choose the most perfect royal baby gift. “She’s been getting her people to research everything,” the source reports. The insider says that they are pouring over possibilities “from diamond baby jewelry to crystal nursery decor.” That sounds a little gaudy, but … we’ve all seen the royal aesthetic. It was conceived before taste was invented. “Kim is convinced she and Meghan will be best friends one day,” the source claims. Interesting! That said, Kim has zero expectations that Meghan Markle is just going to wake up one day and want to hang out with Kim nonstop. “It’s very much a long-term project,” the insider explains. “And,” the source continues. “She’s chipping away.” The insider says that Kim is looking for ways “to impress her when the opportunities arise.” So, basically, this is like any seduction, just with a much higher budget. We can understand Kim’s alleged process here. Most of us have been there, even if we weren’t conscious of it when we were doing it. It’s not uncommon for people to deliberately make friends with someone who is super popular — or to try to make friends. Kim just has unlimited resources at her disposal while she tries to strategize. But will her wealth and fame be enough to impress her way into Meghan’s inner circle? That is a very tall order, these days. Meghan probably knows how to spot fake friends and inauthentic “new friends” a mile away. She’d have to, given what her life is like these days. But is this report about Kim’s ever-growing ambitions true? We … do not know. While it is easy to imagine that anyone might want to befriend Duchess Meghan, this report is entirely unconfirmed. We’ll take it with a grain of salt. And if it’s true … well, maybe we’ll actually feel sorry for Jonathan Cheban for being replaced. According to a new report, not only is Nicki Minaj cool with dating a registered sex offender… … she may be cool with spending the rest of her life with him. Insiders tell TMZ that Minaj and Kenneth Petty have been talking about marriage and kids and settling down together for good, despite having only been a romantic item for a few months. Minaj is taking this relatively new relationship very seriously, believing that Petty is a good and decent man. This belief belies his past, of course. The artist has come under extreme fire ever since going Instagram public with Petty this past Sunday because he was convicted of attempted rape back in 1995. Petty spent four years in prison for this act, which reportedly centered on him using a sharp object to try and force a woman to have sex with him. Then, in 2006, Petty was convicted on a charge of manslaughter and spent seven more years behind bars. It’s unclear just what transpired that led to this second jail stint, but Minaj has already stood up for her man admist heavy criticism leveled at him due to the first. After many followers called Nicki out for being with someone such as Petty, Minaj responded on social media by claiming that he was 15 years old and the alleged victim was 16. She said the two were in a “relationship,” impyling that Petty did nothing wrong. “But go awf, Internet. Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo,” Nicki added. Minaj has known Petty for nearly 20 years. She briefly dated him way back in the day as a teenager and has supposedly told many people within her circle that he’s one of the few who got away. He was one of her first loves. This may help explain why Minaj can so easily look past some of Petty’s misdeeds, as heinous as they objectively may be. “As for that whole convicted sex offender thing — among other crimes — we’re told Nicki couldn’t care less,” TMZ says. Minaj, it should also be noted, has a history of defending those accused* of sexual assault (*Although, again, Petty has not merely been accused. He has been convicted of attempted rape.) The singer’s brother, Jelani Maraj, was found guilty in November 2017 of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl. She has also not been shy in expressing support for ridiculously-named and tattooed rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, who was sentenced to probation in October for his involvement in a sexually explicit video of a 13-year-old girl. Just over a week ago, Danielle Mullins was asking fans for cash because she was at risk of losing her home. She asked for $5,000 in crowdfunding, and the donations poured in for the former 90 Day Fiance star. Now, she is thanking the fans who rode to her rescue. Danielle Mullins Jbali took to Facebook to thank her fans and followers for their help. “I want to thank everyone who donated to the GoFundMe that was set up by a friend,” Danielle writes. Some have speculated that Danielle herself may have set it up as if it were by a friend, but honestly, it doesn’t matter. “It showed me that there are people who care,” Danielle gushes. “And,” she writes, it shows her that there are people who “do it out of the kindness of their heart.” “It really helped,” Danielle assures her fans and followers. “And,” she continues. “I was able to pay what was behind with my money.” Danielle had previously shared that her work had cut her hours to 20 per week. Even finding a second job did not come in time, and she had fallen behind on her rental payments on the trailer lot. She also had some unexpected expenses, including a black mold crisis in her kitchen. Now, she was able to cover those debts — and more. Danielle reveals that she paid her past due rent “and paid what was due for December.” Some fans may wonder if they’ve only delayed the inevitable. Danielle is quick to make it clear that she doesn’t expect to ask for further handouts in the near future. “I started my new job this past Wednesday,” Danielle announces. “So,” she writes. “That will help.” Of course, all of her plans and current employment could have been placed in jeopardy if she had temporarily lost her home. There are others ways that fans and followers have supported her. “I also would like to thank everyone who as ordered cameos and autographs from me,” Danielle writes. By cameos , she means short, personalized videos that followers can purchase. Danielle continues: “because that money has helped too.” We are sure that it has. “I want to say thank you to all my supporters,” Danielle writes. She continues: “family, and friends throughout the last four years.” Danielle has been one of the most controversial and most discussed figures on 90 Day Fiance . Just the other day, Paola Mayfield credited Danielle and Mohamed with putting the series on the map. “And,” Danielle concludes. “I hope you continue to follow me.” Some were critical of Danielle for asking for cash from fans. She is, after all, a reality star — and they couldn’t imagine why she needed money from followers. The reality, as we spell out below, is that 90 Day Fiance stars don’t make much at all. It’s a little shocking, especially in contrast with the show’s solid ratings. Others blasted Danielle for asking for money when there are non-famous people who die because they didn’t receive enough donations to buy insulin. Folks, Danielle is not responsible for that. Direct your anger at the companies that charge ludicrous amounts for a cheaply produced life-saving medicine. Or maybe direct your anger at a government that looks the other way instead of ensuring that all citizens have healthcare. Danielle is only in charge of Danielle, and she needed to pay her rent.
