She co-stars with Krysten Ritter on the sitcom Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 , which premieres tonight on ABC at 9:30/8:30 Central . (SPOILER ALERT: Dreama plays the one who isn’t a bitch.) In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, Rihanna explained why she chose to record the “Birthday Cake (remix)” with ex Chris Brown, who assaulted her in 2009. Rihanna recalls beginning the collaboration process saying: “The first song that came about was ‘Birthday Cake.’ I mean we ended up recording them at the same time and executing them together, but I reached out to him about doing ‘Birthday Cake’ because that’s the only person that really–it made sense to do the record. Just as a musician despite everything else that was going to be the person. You know I thought about rappers, and I’ve done that so many times, and the hottest R&B artist out right now is Chris Brown. So I wanted him on the track, and then in turn he was like ‘Why don’t you do the remix to my track?’ and it was a trade off. We did two records. One for my fans. One for his fans, and that way our fans can come together. There shouldn’t be a divide. You know? It’s music, and it’s innocent.”
A word to any political pundits looking to get a quote about the Tea Party from Chris Rock , protect your camera! The comedian/actor spazzed on a camera when conservative writer Jason Mattera tried to ensnare Rock with a question about his pointed remarks about the Tea Party in Esquire Magazine . The altercation happened at the Sundance Film Festival and video footage of the incident recently hit the internet. Rock stirred up controversy in an Esquire Magazine interview last year when he told the magazine, “When I see the Tea Party and all this stuff, it actually feels like racism’s almost over. Because this is the last — this is the act up before the sleep. They’re going crazy. They’re insane.” When Mattera asked Chris Rock about those comments, Chris tried to walk away but once he realized he had nowhere to run, he lunged at the camera. I wouldn’t brag were it not Monday morning and it’s the only thing keeping me from walking in front of a bus, so: The final piece of Movieline’s Sundance 2012 Bidding-War puzzle has fallen into place, with director James Ponsoldt’s boozehound relationship drama Smashed going to the estimable Sony Pictures Classics. Five-for-five! High five? Smashed is the last of the year’s projected Sundance darlings to officially find a distribution deal, with The Surrogate , Bachelorette , Arbitrage and Red Lights all spoken for in the month-plus since the festival came and went. Moreover, its showcase for Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a young teacher battling the vicissitudes of alcoholism may yet prove to fall in line with SPC’s recent underdog awards tradition — the one that found Melissa Leo ( Frozen River ) and Jacki Weaver ( Animal Kingdom ) coming out of late-summer platform releases to compete with the mainstream favorites at the Oscars. (A press release sent to Movieline HQ did not specify a release date.) “The role asks Winstead to run the full gamut, from game good-time girl and stimulating teacher to shell-shocked morning-after casualty and adamant survivor,” wrote Hollywood Reporter critic Todd McCarthy from Park City. “She’s terrific at it all, far surpassing the promise she indicated in Death Proof and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World .” Probably not coincidentally, recently crowned Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer and Breaking Bad Emmy-winner Aaron Paul co-star. Film lovers, take note: Benh Zeitlin’s highly lauded Sundance ’12 favorite Beasts of the Southern Wild is heading to theaters. Fox Searchlight, which acquired first time feature director Zeitlin’s pic out of the fest, will release the film in limited release on June 29; hit the jump for a full synopsis and peek at the festival award winner. The bayou-set film was the indie discovery to come out of Park City this year, and earned the fest’s Grand Jury Prize for drama. The magical realism-flavored drama should make for great counter-programming during blockbuster season — at least, you can be sure Fox Searchlight’s hoping so. The synopsis: In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions. Ben Flajnik may have gotten engaged on The Bachelor season finale, but it’s already over, according to a new tabloid report. Read on for the alleged details. If The Bachelor spoilers regarding the winner of this season are true, that’s not entirely shocking. According to the report , in January, Ben flirted with a bunch of girls attending the Sundance Film Festival. “I saw him give his number to a brunette at a party, and it definitely looked like they said, ‘See you later’ when she left,” a source says. “Ben was so flirty.” On February 2, he told a girl she should never partake in a reality dating show. Never a positive sign, but then again, have you seen this season?! Comedian Tracy Morgan has fired back after his sister Asia told the NY Daily News that he was mistreating their mother. Morgan, who recently made news for collapsing at the Sundance Film festival, refuses to give his mother money to save her house from foreclosure. In an exclusive statement to ABCNews Morgan said that his sister’s comments are unfounded because they barely speak. “I am saddened that these untrue stories about me have people questioning my commitment to my family,” he said in a statement to ABCNews.com. “For reasons that are between us, I have not seen my mother in 11 years and outside of a random call here and there have had little to no contact with my sister.” Morgan’s mother Alicia Warden claims that Morgan made an offer of $2000 through his assistant, but she refused the money. She owes five times that amount.
