‘Avengers’: Blockbuster Gets Bad News For A Change

In this special Movie Awards ‘After Hours’ clip, Clark Gregg goes from smiling to the fetal position. By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Clark Gregg in “The Avengers” Photo: Marvel/Disney UNIVERSAL CITY, California — “The Avengers” is now the third-highest-grossing movie in the world. Most likely everyone involved with the mammoth Marvel superhero production is feeling pretty good about all of the success, right? Well, in this special Movie Awards “After Hours” clip, our own Josh Horowitz managed to bring actor Clark Gregg down. As if getting offed as Agent Coulson wasn’t bad enough (whether he’ll return as the Vision or in some other incarnation remains to be seen), Gregg was forced to confront a collection of sobering figures Josh delivered that drew a stark contrast with all the good “Avengers” news. Sure, the Avengers” was the fastest movie to ever pass $500 million. Yes, “The Avengers” was loved by more than 90 percent of critics. It’s taken in $1.3 billion around the world. But, as Clark learned during “After Hours,” people in Portugal hate him. No, really, they do. And Uruguay? Sheesh … Whether Gregg will fulfill fan dreams by returning to the franchise as the Vision (or in some other incarnation) remains to be seen, but this “After Hours” clip certainly gave him plenty to contemplate, as you’ll see. You’d be shaken up too if you learned 70 billion people would like to see you dead. Watch as Gregg was reduced to a low whisper, stammering for the right words, a shell of the man who happily smiled at the start and even corrected our “After Hours” host about the opening weekend at first. “Two-hundred-and-seven [million] — just what I heard,” he helpfully admonished. “If we’re doing the numbers, Josh.” If fans want to support their favorite Avengers at Sunday’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards , Captain America and Thor are facing off in the Best Hero category — but they’ve got some stiff competition in the form of Harry Potter, Katniss Everdeen and “21 Jump Street” cop Jenko. ‘Project X’ Star Proclaims Himself ‘America’s Dirtbag’

Oliver Cooper is desperate to win the Best Onscreen Dirtbag prize at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Oliver Cooper Photo: MTV News Oliver Cooper wants your vote! The “Project X” star is nominated for a couple of MTV Movie Awards , but it’s the Best Onscreen Dirtbag prize that he’s really after. While promoting this year’s awards show, Cooper petitioned America for their vote. “Listen. Is America listening right now? I want you to vote for me for Best Onscreen Dirtbag because, truly, I am a dirtbag,” he said. This isn’t the first time Cooper has tried to swing the vote . But instead of pointing out why the other contenders — including Colin Farrell, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Aniston — shouldn’t get the award, he explains why he thinks he should. “I f—ed up an entire neighborhood. I didn’t care about my friends. I still don’t care about those guys, OK? What else did I do in that movie? I don’t even remember. It’s all a blur. I don’t even care about the movie — that’s how much of a dirtbag I am,” he said. “I just want that goddamn popcorn, so I can have a career.” That’s when things start to get a little sad. Cooper explains how he’s at the brink of bursting out into Hollywood and needs a Golden Popcorn to help get him there. “Everybody else out there, they’ve got careers, they’re doing movies all over the world. Me? I’m living with my aunt right now. In Encino,” he said. “I’m Jewish, but I haven’t been to temple in over three years. Honestly, I’m a little confused. I don’t have a girlfriend. Recently, the girls I’ve been seeing, they don’t even speak English. Seriously. And that’s because I don’t want to talk to them.” And that’s where it all comes together for Cooper: managing to make us feel bad for him while reviling him at the same time. “I’m a dirtbag,” he promised. “I’m America’s dirtbag.” Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! Taylor Kitsch Snuffs ‘Catching Fire’ Finnick Rumors

Actor was rumored to be in the running for ‘Hunger Games’ sequel, along with Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer. By Kara Warner Taylor Kitsch Photo: Getty Images And then there were two? The list of three very eligible male actors — Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund — recently speculated to be the top choices to play fan-favorite character Finnick O’Dair in the “Hunger Games” sequel “Catching Fire” has apparently been trimmed to two. Kitsch said the speculation about his possible involvement in the second film in the blockbuster franchise is just that. “Not going to happen,” the “Battleship” and “John Carter” actor wrote in an email to the Los Angeles Times this week. There has been no word from either Hammer’s or Hedlund’s camps regarding the validity of the report, but when MTV News reached out to Lionsgate for confirmation, we received this statement: “Like the first film, Lionsgate won’t be commenting on any of the rumors until we officially announce.” Finnick appears in both “Catching Fire” and the last book in the franchise, “Mockingjay,” and is memorable for his extreme attractiveness, along with the fact that 10 years before he entered the arena in “Catching Fire,” he had won the Hunger Games at age 14 using a Trident. Another actor rumored to be in the running is Robert Pattinson , who quickly put those rumors to bed. “I was kind of curious for a second,” Pattinson told USA Today about the reports. “So I called my agent. My agent was like, ‘No … no one’s going to offer you that part.’ I was like, ‘Thanks for the reassurance.’ ” This hasn’t stopped us from doing our own speculation and fan casting of the role, which provides for a fun distraction until Lionsgate makes the official announcement. There’s still time to cast your vote for “The Hunger Games” to win big at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards , airing at 9 p.m. ET. The film is nominated for a slew of Golden Popcorn trophies in the categories of Best Cast, Movie of the Year, Best Hero, Best Fight, Best Kiss and more. ‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Teases ‘Amazing’ Season Finale

‘You can make your own decision as to what happens to me,’ Alfie Allen tells MTV News of Sunday’s episode. By Kara Warner Alfie Allen Photo: MTV News After last week’s unbelievably action-packed episode of “Game of Thrones,” you’re probably wondering what the show-runners have up their sleeves for the season finale this Sunday. Will there be shocking deaths, destruction, danger? In knowing how last season ended , we’re betting on all of the above. We do have a few specific hints about what kind of death, destruction and danger to expect, however, thanks to a recent chat with Alfie Allen, a.k.a. Theon Greyjoy. “Theon is not going to get the backup he needs, and people he thought he could rely on are really waiting for him to mess up and take advantage of that situation and sell him off to certain people,” Allen explained. “But he doesn’t know this.” As for the rest of the problem-plagued characters in Westeros, Allen teased that the Queen of Dragons might be dealing with a lot of drama, as well as a possible blast from her past. “I know with Daenerys, she goes to the House of the Undying and maybe you’ll see a character pop up who was in series one and [was not] in series two — we’ll just see. I know [show-runners] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] have been secretive about showing episode 10. David emailed me the other night and said, ‘Alfie, you’re going to be really, really happy with it.’ I’ve seen [some of the episode during post-production], and I’m very self-critical, so for me to say I’m happy about it, that’ s something big.” Allen said fans should expect the best from everyone on the show — just not as many actual battles. “It’s not as action-packed or bloodshed-y but has a lot of content,” Allen said. “It’s not going to be anticlimactic, that’s for sure, because a lot of the stuff with Dany is amazing and my stuff is all right,” he said with a smile, before teasing that things will likely end in a cliffhanger. “You can make your own decision as to what happens to me,” Allen teased. “We’ll see what happens, because I don’t even really know what’s happened to me, so we’ll just see.” Related Photos ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season Two

Justin Bieber Nursing Eyebrow Injury After Concussion

‘I got into a fight with glass window yesterday and in result I can’t move my eyebrow,’ he says in a new video message from Paris. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Justin Bieber told fans Thursday that despite bumping into a glass wall and getting a concussion , he felt “fine.” Well, one day after the incident in Paris, the singer posted a video message noting that he has encountered one minor setback on his road to recovery. “I got into a fight with glass window yesterday and in result I can’t move my eyebrow. There’s no wrinkles on this side. How weird is that? It’s the weirdest thing. Some weird stuff going on there,” he said, laughing as the video ended. On Friday afternoon (June 1), Bieber must have been feeling better despite the eyebrow injury as he took to a balcony in Paris to put on an impromptu concert. According to Reuters, he used a megaphone as he serenaded fans who gathered near the Pantheon monument in the Latin Quarter. In the lead-up to the performance, Bieber tweeted the address and wrote that he was “moving a little slower today and running a little late. PARIS I will see u soon on that balcony #WithDanKanter,” Bieber’s musical director and lead guitarist. So did he think the show went well? “Loved singing with all of you #WithDanKanter – just like old times.” In addition to performing in Paris, Bieber also planned to check out Jay-Z and Kanye West ‘s show on Friday night. “#BiebasInParis #WATCHTHETHRONE #PARIS #LEGGO.” Also, Bieber had this reminder for fans who may have forgotten he’s dropping an album this month : “#June19th #18Days #BELIEVE.” When MTV News caught up with Bieber before Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards , he threw all his support behind multi-nominee “Bridesmaids.” “I just think it was funny. ‘Hunger Games’ Star Slings Arrows At Movie Awards Rival ‘Twilight’

‘Harry Potter’ also earns Leven Rambin’s wrath: ‘That’s so seven years ago.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Leven Rambin Photo: MTV News “The Hunger Games” has some stiff competition at Sunday’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards , especially in two major categories: Movie of the Year and Best Cast . Surely the cast of the splashy big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel fully understands warfare, which is why when MTV News recently spoke to Leven Rambin — who plays the ill-fated Glimmer in “Hunger Games” — she had some feisty fighting words for those other casts. Well, for all the films except one notable exception. “I think it’s a close tie between ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Bridesmaids,’ and I would not be offended if ‘Bridesmaids’ won, ’cause, frankly, they’re my favorite cast of any movie I’ve ever seen ever,” she dished. “I think it’s neck-and-neck.” Of course, she had less-than-kind things to say about some of those other nominated films. ” ‘Harry Potter’? That’s so seven years ago,” she said. “So I think ‘The Hunger Games’ is the hot new kids on the block.” And she wasn’t shy to brush off “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” another major movie franchise vying for the Golden Popcorn when the show goes live this Sunday (June 3). “What? What’s that? ‘Breaking’ who?” she sassed. In the Movie of the Year category, Rambin and the other Tributes face off against “Bridesmaids,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” “The Help” and “Breaking Dawn – Part 1”. Meanwhile, in the Best Cast competition, “The Hunger Games” will take on “Bridesmaids,” “Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” “21 Jump Street” and “The Help.” Want to know who will win? Well, the 2012 MTV Movie Awards will be hosted by Russell Brand and feature performances from Fun. , The Black Keys, Martin Solveig and Wiz Khalifa . Will ‘Snow White’ Beat Out ‘Men In Black,’ ‘Avengers’ At Weekend Box Office?

Experts weigh in on whether Kristen Stewart’s star power can overtake current box-office champs leading up to the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, June 3. By Ryan J. Downey Kristen Stewart as “Snow White” Photo: Universal Last weekend, “Men in Black 3” finally ended the box-office domination of “The Avengers,” which saw the superhero team-up movie smashing world records with the combined might of Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s shield, Iron Man’s snarky wit and the Hulk’s green fists. During this MTV Movie Awards weekend, “Snow White and the Huntsman” will do battle against them both, with “Thor” himself, Chris Hemsworth, in one of the title roles alongside Kristen Stewart, best-known for a little franchise called “Twilight.” Will Stewart’s vampire fanatic fanbase focus their attention on “Snow White”? Will Thor’s Asgardian thunder rain down more box-office coin in this role? Keep in mind this isn’t the first “Snow White”-centered movie to hit multiplexes this year. Julia Roberts flopped in “Mirror, Mirror” just two months ago. “Huntsman” is headed to theaters with similar reviews (50 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ “Tomatometer” at press time). So how will it do? “It’s going to be close, but ‘Snow White’ should edge out ‘Men in Black 3,’ ” HitFix ‘s Gregory Ellwood told MTV News. MTV Next Movie Executive Editor Kevin Polowy concurred. “Its competition isn’t that daunting. ‘Men in Black’ did well last weekend but hardly gangbusters. ‘The Avengers,’ which is still hanging ridiculously tough a month after opening, might actually be more of a threat than last week’s big winner. But ‘Snow White’ has an alluring cast, the potential to draw all demographics, and most importantly for a summer blockbuster, a whole lotta action.” Jeff Bock, Exhibitor Relations Senior Box Office Analyst, gave the edge to “Huntsman” over “Mirror, Mirror,” which opened at #3 at the box office with just $18.1 million. He credited the newer film’s stronger chances to its tone, likening its style to box-office juggernaut “Alice in Wonderland.” “Universal’s ‘Snow White’ is the one everyone was waiting for; [this one is] done on a much grander scale, more akin to ‘Alice’ and very dark, like the Brothers Grimm fairy tale it spawned from.” ” ‘Snow White’ very clearly wants to be a ‘Lord of the Rings’-like swashbuckling epic, which should draw a bigger, more enticed audience,” agreed Polowy.” “The Avengers” is now the fourth-biggest movie ever, in terms of gross, domestically. The power of “Twilight,” of course, continues. But what will the success or failure of “Snow White” mean for the careers of its respective stars outside of their tried-and-true franchises? “This movie has been sold as Charlize Theron as the evil queen,” Ellwood pointed out. “You could argue that Universal hasn’t done enough to showcase Hemsworth in the movie, especially after the success of ‘The Avengers.’ ” Bock was quick to note talk of a possible “Huntsman”-centered sequel. “Hollywood is pretty smitten with Hemsworth. In the end though, as an ensemble piece, this has very little risk involved for him. If it were to tank, the blame would likely fall on Kristen Stewart, with critics jumping on the ‘she can’t carry a film other than ‘Twilight’ bandwagon. It is quite apparent when watching the movie that the real stars are Hemsworth and Theron, who both give powerhouse performances.” “[The movie’s success or failure] will be very important for Kristen Stewart,” Polowy said. “This is Stewart’s first high-profile starring role outside of ‘Twilight,’ and it’s loaded with variables. Can she open a summer blockbuster? Can she do action? Can she do accents? Can she refrain from biting her lip so much?” “Any opening over $30 million outside of ‘Twilight’ is good for Stewart,” offered Ellwood. “If ‘Snow White’ has legs, it’s a sign she’s can easily transition as a leading lady in tentpole films once her days as Bella are over.” Speaking of “biting” and “legs,” there is another film swimming toward the box office: “Piranha 3DD.” It’s 2010 predecessor, “Piranha 3-D,” was a surprise hit with critics (73 percent on the Tomatometer, which is like an Oscar for that type of horror flick). It didn’t collect huge amounts of cash, but it certainly did well enough for the Weinstein Company/ Dimension Films to warrant a follow-up, for which director John Gulager (“Feast”) took over for Alexandre Aja (“High Tension”). However, despite the critical love for the last one, “Piranha 3DD” sat at a lowly 20 percent on the Tomatometer at press time. “Critics loved the first Piranha because it exploited everything cheesy about campy horror films — and 3-D flicks — in tongue-in-cheek style. The sequel is merely exploitation of that success,” Bock said. “Based on the theater count of 75 theaters, you can see that this one will go belly up quick and flushed down the drain.” Flesh-eating fish and “Snow White” aside, the $600 million question, as Polowy put it, is whether anything will beat “The Avengers” in 2012. All three of the experts we contacted agreed that only one film stands a chance. Which film is that? Let’s just say it involves a cape, a cowl and maybe a broken back. “There’s only one candidate who could come close, and its name is ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ ” Polowy said of the forthcoming flick, for which an exclusive clip will premiere at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards. “Assuming [filmmaker] Christopher Nolan recaptures the magic of his last Batman blockbuster, and Tom Hardy’s Bane proves a viable replacement for Heath Ledger’s Joker, it will be close.” “It will have to be as strong critically as ‘The Dark Knight,’ ” said Ellwood. “That may be the only way to pull in [people who visit the movies four to six times per year]. Besides the added benefit of higher 3-D ticket prices, ‘The Avengers’ became a de facto family film, something ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ clearly isn’t, which helped fuel its coffers. Warner Bros. will need strong repeat business and massive adoration for ‘Rises’ to overtake ‘The Avengers.’ It’s arguably Batman’s toughest challenge yet.” Bock agreed it’s a huge challenge for Bats, one that may prove more defeating than anything Bane could cook up. “Even considering ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is probably the most anticipated threequel since ‘Return of the Jedi,’ ‘The Avengers’ is playing like Earth’s mightiest sequel. And that’s exactly what it is.” “Sorry Batman, you’ve been busted by Hollywood’s box-office brigade,” he concluded. Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! Snooki And JWoww On Movie Awards Men: Hot Or Not?

‘Jersey Shore’ stars have soft spot for Channing Tatum, up for Best Male Performance at Sunday night’s show. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vaughn Schoonmaker JWoww and Snooki Photo: MTV News “Jersey Shore” stars Snooki and JWoww certainly have strong opinions about the contenders in the Best Male Performance category at Sunday’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards . When the rowdy pair sat down with MTV News recently, they weighed in on the five equally fine guys duking it out at the show. And they’ve offered up some colorful commentary about some of the nominees. Regarding Daniel Radcliffe, who is up for his work in the last “Harry Potter” flick, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” JWoww said, “He’s Harry — not literally.” Meanwhile, Snooki added, “He looks like he can party.” As for Ryan Gosling, nominated for his work in “Drive,” JWoww said, “Ryan Gosling’s supposed to be, like, the hottest male ever, right?” The ladies had even warmer feelings for “The Vow” star Channing Tatum. Snooki could barely form together a complete sentence when it came to describing his beefiness. She said, “Channing Tatum, ‘The Vow,’ he was really hot.” Mirroring the mama-to-be’s sentiments, JWoww added, “I’d have sex with him.” As for Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Hutcherson, well, the two ladies were a bit out of the know about those guys. Perhaps they should bone up on their knowledge of them a bit more before Sunday’s show since one of them just might win. One of these guys will take home the prize in the Best Male Performance category at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards taking place this weekend. Vanilla Ice Vs. Will Forte: Watch ‘That’s My Boy’ Rap Battle!

‘That’s My Boy’ stars bust into spontaneous rhymes during MTV Sneak Peek Week interview. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting Josh Horowitz Vanilla Ice at MTV Sneak Peek Week on Wednesday Photo: Brian Dowling/Picture Group/MTV Will Forte and Vanilla Ice both displayed their smooth rap skills when they sat down with MTV News during MTV Sneak Peek Week . The “That’s My Boy” co-stars decided to use the interview as a place to spit some rhymes. Why? Well, it was a more creative way to answer the questions they were asked about their respective parts in the flick. In the film, Ice plays an exaggerated version of his real-life persona . When asked about his return to the big screen, he decided not to respond with a spoken answer but rather with a rhyme specially designed for the occasion. He spit, “Been a long time since you seen me on the TV/ V Ice here for sheezy/ Taking what’s mine ’cause it’s my time/ To hit you all with a new style of rhyme.” So, when it came time for Will Forte to talk about going nude for the flick, he took a page out of Vanilla Ice’s book and rapped his answer. “My name is Will Forte and I know how to move/ My name’s Will Forte and I know how to groove/ I know how to move, I know how to groove/ It looks like this homeboy is batting two for two,” he rhymed. The lively conversation took place just days before the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , which go down on Sunday.
