Ryan Kwanten on Griff the Invisible and Embracing His Inner Misfit Superhero

Somehow, despite his chiseled good looks, his True Blood fame, and the glut of comic book movies in Hollywood these days, 34-year-old Ryan Kwanten hadn’t yet played a superhero until now. And the one he does play — the only one that’s interested him, he says — comes in this week’s small-scale Australian indie Griff the Invisible , in which the erstwhile Jason Stackhouse plays a mild-mannered, socially-awkward geek by day and vigilante crime fighter by night.

Race Matters: Spider-Man Is Black And Latino Now But… He Might Be Gay Too!

Did you know the new Spider-Man is black??? Say goodbye to Peter Parker and hello to Miles Morales… the half-Black half-Latino young man who replaces Parker following his death. Miles Morales has replaced Peter Parker as the face behind the famous webbed mask, Marvel Comics has revealed. In the latest edition of the Ultimate Fallout series he pulls back the disguise and shows his face for the first time. Fans will have to wait until the official Spider Man relaunch next month to find out how he came to be the superhero. But another surprise could be in the pipeline after his creators said that in the future they would not rule out making him gay. Peter Parker first appeared as the superhero in 1962 – having been bitten by a radioactive spider he found he developed the strength and agility of an arachnid. He was killed off by the Green Goblin in June in a controversial move by Marvel which left fans aghast. Morales was inspired to do good after learning of the death and in Ultimate Fallout issue four he dons the mask and gets into his first fight. Marvel has revealed that he does have a connection to Parker in terms of how he got his powers but he will have different abilities beyond ‘Spider Sense’ and the ability to shoot webs out of his hands. Parker’s Aunt May and Gwen Stacy will also be in the plot to help him on his way to being a superhero. ‘The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility,’ Spider Man writer Brian Michael Bendis told USA Today. He’s going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means. ‘He’s younger than Peter Parker, he’s coming from a completely different background, a completely different world view. ‘It’s Peter Parker’s death that inspires this kid to step up.’ Marvel’s editor in chief Axel Alonso denied that having a black Spider Man was a publicity stunt. What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who’s reflective of our culture and diversity. ‘As someone who grew up on a steady diet of ‘Luke Cage, Hero For Hire’ and ‘Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu,’ I am personally invested. ‘This was a conscious decision. Here at Marvel, we pride ourselves on reflecting the real world in all its diversity. ‘We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker.’ Italian artist Sara Pichelli, who designed Spider-Man’s new look, added: ‘Maybe sooner or later a black or gay – or both – hero will be considered something absolutely normal.’ Not everything in the world of Spider Man has changed, however. The Ultimate imprint is separate from Marvel’s other comics – where Parker is alive and well. Ultimate exists in a parallel universe where entirely different realities can take place, Marvel said. We are glad Marvel is adding more diversity to their comics, but how are they gonna say Miles “might” be gay? We thought Lady Gaga said gays were “Born That Way”??? Source

Producer Avi Arad on Avengers, Ghost in the Shell vs. Akira, and the Mass Effect Movie

Marvel Studios founder (and former toy inventor ) Avi Arad has built an empire out of the superhero business, having produced everything from the Blade films to the X-Men , Fantastic Four , Ghost Rider , Hulk , Iron Man , and Spider-Man films and the upcoming Andrew Garfield-starring reboot, not to mention the 2012 superhero superfilm The Avengers . Needless to say, there was a ton to discuss and not nearly enough time when Movieline caught up with Arad at Comic-Con right before Sony’s Hall H panel for The Amazing Spider-Man .

Cameron Diaz’s Sweet Denim Thighs

I wouldn’t say that these are the most exciting pictures you’ll ever see of Cameron Diaz , the bikini pictures from the other day come to mind, but she’s wearing some tight jeans and flashing a nice smile so I thought I’d share them with all my friends. That’s right, we’re friends now. Anyhow, here she is at a photocall for The Green Hornet in Spain the other day doing her best to make it look like this movie won’t be complete garbage. Come on, nobody’s going to buy that a a fat guy is a superhero, you might as well make the superhero a stay at home mom… It’s just not going to work. Cameron’s ass looks good in those jeans though. Enjoy.

Michael Caine Says Batman 3 Shooting in April

Never trust Gary Oldman again . While on the press circuit for The Book of Eli in 2009, Commissioner Gordon told reporters that Christopher Nolan would begin shooting Batman 3 this year with an eye toward a 2011 release. Bzzzt! Not according to Michael Caine. The coolest actor alive — seriously, right guys? — told reporters at the London premiere of Inception that Nolan was planning to shoot his sequel to The Dark Knight in April. Take that with the giant grain of salt it deserves, but hey — an April shoot could mean the finished product will be hit theaters just in time for the superhero apocalypse in the summer of 2012. Andrew Garfield, get ready to shake in your Spidey-tights. After the jump, video of Caine — who also offers a slight spoiler on his role in Inception .

Andrew Garfield Is The New Spider-Man

Sony has announced that the relative unknown will play Peter Parker in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ reboot. By Josh Wigler Andrew Garfield Photo: Getty Images Spider-Man’s secret identity is no longer a secret: Andrew Garfield is officially the new man under the superhero’s mask. Sony Pictures has announced that Garfield (“The Social Network,” “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”) will portray Peter Parker in director Marc Webb’s forthcoming “Spider-Man” reboot . Based on a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, the new “Spider-Man” film is said to bring the web-slinging hero back to his high school roots, meaning that the 27-year-old Garfield will need to tap into his inner teenage angst for the comic book role. “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents,” Webb said of Garfield’s casting. “He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.” In a joint statement, Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal and President of Columbia Pictures Matt Tolmach said: “Spider-Man is a classic superhero — a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film ‘The Social Network,’ to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker.” “I’m incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield,” added producer Avi Arad. “In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.” The upcoming “Spider-Man” reboot will be shot in 3-D and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 3, 2012. In winning the role of Peter Parker, Garfield beat out an extensive list of rumored candidates ranging from “Kick-Ass” star Aaron Johnson to “Journey to the Center of the Earth” actor Josh Hutcherson . Garfield succeeds outgoing star Tobey Maguire, who played the superhero in three previous Sam Raimi-directed films. ‘Stretch Armstrong’ Writer ‘Gets’ Taylor Lautner Obsession

‘That is one good-looking man,’ Nicholas Stoller tells MTV News of ‘Eclipse’ star. By Josh Wigler Taylor Lautner Photo: Cohen/ WireImage Although he’s currently best known for playing hunky werewolf Jacob Black in “The Twilight Saga,” Taylor Lautner is about to stretch his acting chops significantly with an all-new action franchise. “Stretch Armstrong,” based on the action figure property from Hasbro, follows a special agent who suddenly finds himself with the superpower ability to extend his body beyond normal human limitations. “Get Him to the Greek” writer and director Nicholas Stoller is currently writing the superhero film’s screenplay, but he admitted to MTV News that he has found himself a bit distracted lately. Distracted by what, you ask? None other than Lautner himself! “I had my first meeting with him, and let me tell you: That dude is handsome,” Stoller confessed. “That is one good-looking man. Like, he is — I get it. I get it!” Pressed for further details on his first impressions of Lautner, Stoller said he hasn’t met anyone else in Hollywood who can attract a crowd quite like the “Twilight” sensation does. “At this point in my career, obviously you spend a lot of time with celebrities,” he said. “I’ve never seen more people approach someone [famous]. So many people come up to him, every age and a lot of French people.” Stoller also admitted that while he hasn’t seen Lautner without his shirt on , he certainly wouldn’t mind getting a firsthand look at the actor’s shirtless physique. “I’m not even going to do the whole ‘I’m not gay’ type of thing,” Stoller laughed. “Anyone, it doesn’t matter who you are, would want to see that!” Are you excited to see Taylor as Stretch Armstrong? Or will he always be Jacob Black to you? Share your thoughts in the comments! For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
