Man of Steel Teasers: My Two Dads

Today Warner Bros. released the first teaser for 2013’s superhero reboot Man of Steel , an elegiac glimpse of Clark Kent ( Henry Cavill ), as a man and a boy, accompanied by memories of childhood paternal advice telling him of his destiny as Earth’s savior. But Clark/Superman has two dads — biological Kryptonian pop Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and adoptive farmer pa Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), giving fans a neat double tease: One teaser, two voice-overs. From the looks of things in the Zack Snyder-directed, Christopher Nolan -produced Man of Steel , it appears that Clark Kent is taking some “me” time off from his superhero calling to moonlight as a deep sea fisherman, Deadliest Catch -style. That vocation should give him time to ponder the childhood advice gleaned from his two dads, one who tells him he’s destined to save humanity, another who tells him that destiny is his choice to make. “You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They’ll raise behind you. They will stumble. They will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.” [Via MSN ] “One day, you’re going to have to make a choice. You have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad, it’s going to change the world.” [Via Yahoo ] The teaser had already been reportedly attached to prints of TDKR in theaters. I do like the idea of Hobo Superman slinging crawfish by day and hanging with a scruffy boatyard dog by night as he ponders life and stuff. But you tell me. Man of Steel will be released June 14, 2013. Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

After Magic Mike, Still-Retiring Steven Soderbergh Looks to TV and Less ‘Important’ Movies

The Magic Mike director gave insight into his future endeavors once his hard stop to movie making begins in six months. He told Reuters that a book and even television work may occupy his interests, following in the footsteps of a number of filmmakers who are crossing over to the small screen in the past several years. “I’ve been planning this for five years … I gave myself an out date and I’m right on schedule. I turn into a pumpkin in January,” Steven Soderbergh told Reuters . He also noted that he’s over making what he dubbed as “important movies,” adding that Che satisfied that desire. Following his latest, Soderbergh will finish off the thriller The Bitter Pill starring Channing Tatum, who also stars in Magic as well as Rooney Mara. And he also has the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon shooting this summer. Candelabra may be a window, in fact, into the Oscar winning director’s future since it’s an HBO production. “After I take my self-imposed sabbatical, if I’m going to come back and do something, I think it’s more likely that it would be on television than it would be a movie,” he said.” What do you think of Soderbergh’s move to TV? Charlie Kaufman’s Frank or Francis A No Go?

Bad news, Charlie Kaufman fans: While some cast members had been hopeful in recent months that Frank or Francis would move ahead, Elizabeth Banks (doing the press rounds for People Like Us ) spilled news to the contrary. “I honestly don’t know where that film is at,” she told AICN. “We were supposed to make it sooner, but it’s been pushed. I think they’re waiting for everybody’s lives to come back together…I don’t really know anything about it.” Speaking with Moviefone, she elaborated that things “fell apart” before the Hollywood satire/musical could move forward into production: “We didn’t get to shoot that movie. It was ready to go, and, as many movies do, it fell apart at the last minute.” UPDATE: Over at The Playlist , the filmmaker’s reps say that the project’s not completely dead — it has just been “postponed.” [ AICN , Moviefone ]

Channing Tatum as Superman, Will Arnett as Batman… in LEGO Movie

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller made names for themselves with their feature debut, the animated Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs , before moving on to direct Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in the live-action hit 21 Jump Street . As they work up their next film — WB’s live-action/CG blend LEGO adaptation, apparently titled Lego: The Piece of Resistance , based on the plastic toy building blocks — the duo are casting a few familiar superheroes to appear in the pic. Variety reports that Lord and Miller have tapped Will Arnett to voice LEGO Batman in the adventure, with the hope that Tatum can find room in his schedule to come on as LEGO Superman. They’d be joining Parks and Recreation ‘s Chris Pratt , who leads the pic after recent turns in Moneyball , What’s Your Number , and The Five-Year Engagement . Pratt and Tatum also co-star in the indie high school reunion drama Ten Year , which is slated for release through Anchor Bay, while Tatum of course starred in 21 Jump Street for Lord and Miller, with hilarious results. The synopsis, via Variety: “Pratt will play Emmet, an ordinary, law-abiding, Lego mini-figure who is mistaken for the most extraordinary MasterBuilder. He’s drafted into a fellowship of strangers on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together.” Of course, there’s no indication of just how big the parts of LEGO Batman and Superman will be in the film, but the cheeky, geeky move should get DC/LEGO fans excited nonetheless. The parts are all falling into place… [ Variety ]

Dwight “The D Is For D-Bag” Howard Reportedly Refuses To Play Until His Coach Is Fired

Dwight Howard Refuses To Play For Coach Dwight Howard is coming off like a big jerk. According to his sources, Howard is still upset with Van Gundy confirming Pingalore’s report from earlier this month that Howard went to Magic management asking for Van Gundy to be fired. On Friday, the Magic had their physical therapist Ed Manalo travel with Howard to Los Angeles, where Howard went to have his back diagnosed. Dr. Robert Watkins, of Marina del Rey, California, diagnosed Howard with a herniated disk. After visiting Los Angeles, Pingalore’s sources confirmed that Howard was adamant about joining the team in Cleveland but the Magic asked him to return to Orlando. Howard would eventually travel to Cleveland. However, Howard sat in the hotel for the game Sunday evening and rejoined the team as they traveled back to Orlando. “It was strange since that Howard wanted to go to Cleveland and offer support but never made it to the game,” said one of Pingalore’s sources. Howard would also likely sit out the postseason, according to the source. Remember when Dwight was the happy-go-lucky muscular guy with the Superman cape? Now he’s got baby momma issues and is acting like a total hoe on the court. It was all good a week ago. Source More On Bossip! Michael Shannon Teases ‘Man Of Steel’ Speeches

General Zod ‘has some cool speeches,’ actor tells MTV News at Independent Spirit Awards. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michael Shannon at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images We know that we can expect at least somewhat of a revisionist take on Superman when ” Man of Steel ” hits theaters next year, but a tap-dancing General Zod? If Michael Shannon is to be believed, Superman’s Kryptonian nemesis could be borrowing a thing or two from the 2012 Oscars Best Picture winner. On Saturday, at the biggest ceremony for independent film, the Independent Spirit Awards , Shannon arrived in support of his nominated film ” Take Shelter ,” and stopped to speak with MTV News about his upcoming role as a super-villain. For one of next year’s biggest movies, we’ve seen next to nothing officially from Zack Snyder’s reboot, but as one of the lucky few working on the film, Shannon has been privy to the top-secret info we’ve all craved. “I saw the dance sequence, but that’s it, just because I have to match the moves,” Shannon joked — we hope. We could even see a silent, black-and-white, song-and-dance film
