Miley Cyrus has gone very public with her defense of gay marriage. In July of last year, the singer got a tattoo (below) on her finger that she posted on Twitter, along with the caption “All LOVE is Equal.” She got a lot of flak for the move, criticism she’s now responding to via an editorial in Glamor . “A lot of people mocked me,” Miley writes. “They said, ‘What happened to you? You used to be a Christian girl!’ And I said, ‘Well, if you were a true Christian, you would have your facts straight. Christianity is about love.'” Cyrus is speaking out now on the topic, she says, due to the “unnecessary threats” leveled at both her and her supporters. She adds: “I believe every American should be allowed the same rights and civil liberties. Without legalized same-sex marriage, most of the time you cannot share the same health benefits, you are not considered next of kin and you are not granted the same securities as a heterosexual couple. How is this different than having someone sit in the back of the bus because of their skin color?” It’s just not right , Miley concludes of the argument that homosexual couples are somehow held to a different standard than heterosexual couples. “We all should be tolerant of one another and embrace our differences,” she writes. No doubt Cyrus will fall under fire once again for making her beliefs on this controversial subject well known, which is exactly why we admire her so much for doing so.

And I have decided to stand aside,” the GOP Congresswoman from Minnesota told reporters today. They spoke, indeed, dealing her a disappointing sixth-place finish. The Queen of Rage could not become The Queen of Votes . Despite Bachmann’s extensive tour to visit all 99 of Iowa’s counties, her August straw poll win, and the state being her place of birth, she garnered just five percent. Her communications director Alice Stewart told reporters following the news conference that conversations began last night about whether to continue the campaign. The congresswoman asked for time to “sleep on it” and “pray about it.” Stewart said she was awoken early Wednesday morning with the news that Michele was out. Bachmann has not yet discussed whether she will seek reelection to her U.S. House seat in Minnesota, Stewart said, or whether she will endorse another candidate. Also unclear if last night’s second-place finisher will reach out to her supporters with the following tagline: Rick Santorum: Conservative Like Bachmann, But Less Crazy!

Presidential hopeful Herman Cain, already facing allegations of sexual harassment from four women, was caught joking about Anita Hill during a campaign stop this week. A college professor, Hill infamously became the poster woman for such claims when she made them 20 years ago about Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. A Fox News camera caught Cain laughing about Hill during a campaign visit to Kalamazoo, Mich., Thursday, when a supporter brought up the professor’s name. “You hear the latest news today? Anita Hill is going to come …” a man told Cain. “Is she going to endorse me?” Cain joked, as he and the crowd laughed heartily … Herman Cain Anita Hill Joke Herman Cain insisted later that he wasn’t trying to insult Hill. “We walked into this room and … one of my supporters said, ‘Anita Hill was trying to contact you’ and my response was, ‘Is she going to endorse me?'” he said. “He said it in a humorous way. I gave a humorous response.” The Republican continues to fend off allegations that he sexually harassed four women when he was head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s. Karen Kraushaar allegedly received a settlement to leave the group along with another woman. Sharon Bialek alleges Cain tried to grope her at a later date. Joking about Hill, while essentially harmless, is not likely to help Cain, who some say has been less than forthcoming, shake the story that has dogged him for weeks. How will the sexual harassment allegations impact Cain?

It’s a very sad day for all of mankind: Teresa Giudice has dropped out of Twitter. Following a recent spat with Real Housewives of New Jersey co-star Jacqueline Laurita, Giudice made the tragic announcement today on her blog, writing: “I don’t think it’s a very healthy place to be right now. (I just can’t take anyone who’s suddenly friends again with Kim G. seriously, sorry!), so I’m going to slowly slip out of it and maybe take a little break for a while.” Laurita, of course, referred to Teresa as “scum” a couple days ago because she believes her castmate helped spread a rumor that Melissa Gorga once worked as a stripper and… seriously, why would anyone care about this?!? Giudice says she’s been blindsided by the entire feud, blogging : “The whole time we were filming [season 3], I had no idea what other people were saying about me. I just assumed they were all my friends.” After all, that’s what the script called for her to assume.
Hank Williams Jr. has issued an apology, brief but apparently sincere, for the absurd comments on Fox News this week that got him kicked off Monday Night Football . The singer called his Obama-Hitler comparison “misunderstood” in a statement earlier Tuesday, going on to explain more tactfully what he meant but not retracting it. Now, in a second statement, he admitted it was “dumb” and apologized.
