Race Matters: Interracial Marriage Is At An All Time High In US…Blacks Are Substantially More Likely To Marry Whites

Interracial marriages in the U.S. have climbed to 4.8 million — a record 1 in 12 — as a steady flow of new Asian and Hispanic immigrants expands the pool of prospective spouses. Blacks are now substantially more likely than before to marry whites. A Pew Research Center study, released Thursday, details a diversifying America where interracial unions and the mixed-race children they produce are challenging typical notions of race. “The rise in interracial marriage indicates that race relations have improved over the past quarter century,” said Daniel Lichter, a sociology professor at Cornell University. “Mixed-race children have blurred America’s color line. They often interact with others on either side of the racial divide and frequently serve as brokers between friends and family members of different racial backgrounds,” he said. “But America still has a long way to go.” The figures come from previous censuses as well as the 2008-2010 American Community Survey, which surveys 3 million households annually. The figures for “white” refer to those whites who are not of Hispanic ethnicity. For purposes of defining interracial marriages, Hispanic is counted as a race by many in the demographic field. The study finds that 8.4 percent of all current U.S. marriages are interracial, up from 3.2 percent in 1980. While Hispanics and Asians remained the most likely, as in previous decades, to marry someone of a different race, the biggest jump in share since 2008 occurred among blacks, who historically have been the most segregated. States in the West where Asian and Hispanic immigrants are more numerous, including Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico and California, were among the most likely to have couples who “marry out” — more than 1 in 5. The West was followed by the South, Northeast and Midwest. By state, mostly white Vermont had the lowest rate of intermarriage, at 4 percent. In all, more than 15 percent of new marriages in 2010 were interracial. The numbers also coincide with Pew survey data showing greater public acceptance of mixed marriage, coming nearly half a century after the Supreme Court in 1967 barred race-based restrictions on marriage. (In 2000, Alabama became the last state to lift its unenforceable ban on interracial marriages.) About 83 percent of Americans say it is “all right for blacks and whites to date each other,” up from 48 percent in 1987. As a whole, about 63 percent of those surveyed say it “would be fine” if a family member were to marry outside their own race. Discuss… Source Photo: WENN More On Bossip! Herman ‘Touch Caucasian Cakes’ Cain: “I Dropped Out Of The Presidential Race Because Of Gutter Politics, Stupid People, & Keeping Family First”

Your boy Herman Cain is bizzzack and he and his 9-9-9-isms hit the stage at the CPAC conference where he discussed a plethora of things such as teleprompters, gutter politics, and the Bible: In the most anticipated address of the day on Thursday, Herman Cain compared himself to the biblical David, who slew Goliath. Cain said he dropped out of the presidential race because he values his family, and then offered the strong analogy. “There were two reasons I dropped out of the race – gutter politics and, No. 2, I chose to put family first,” he said. “And in making that decision, I knew that we together could change Washington, D.C., from the outside and from the bottom up even if your David didn’t make it to the White House.” The crowd didn’t immediately seem to know which David that Cain was referring to, but later in his comments, it became clearer that his reference was to the Bible. Cain also took time out of his speech to recognize Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, a.k.a. “Joe the Plumber,” who is waging a quixotic campaign for Congress in a very tough Ohio district. “Some of us choose to get off the sidelines, and I admire that,” Cain said. “I don’t regret the move that I made, but there’s more than one way to skin a cat.” Check out the video of his speech below… Even more folks at this CPAC 2012 were going in on Barack Obama: In his speech opening the CPAC conference, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R) touched on every leg of the so-called three-legged stool: national security, the economy and social conservatism. It was a jokey speech filled with barbs at Democrats — liberals now call themselves “progressive, which I thought was an insurance company” and “It’s hard to get a teleprompter in this town, there’s a guy who uses a lot of them.” He took multiple shots at Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and former president Jimmy Carter. Obama, he said, “looks like he’s a really good father, he’s a really good husband, but he is a terrible president.” SMH. Source

Race Matters: Arizona State Law Maker Suggests A Public Holiday For White People..”When Caucasians Become The Minority, We Need To Celebrate Our Accomplishments”

And this guy is serious about this: After a Latino state legislator proposed a Latino American Day, lawmaker Cecil Ash stepped up before the legislature to suggest a holiday for white people. Seriously. This is, after all, the land of S.B. 1070, the contentious and draconian immigration enforcement bill that has been mired in legal deadlock since it was signed into law by Gov. Jan Brewer (R) in 2010. The legislation, considered the strictest of its kind when it was passed, is to be ruled upon by the Supreme Court later this year. It’s also home to Russell Pearce, the former Republican state senator credited with laying down the framework for the state’s controversial immigration law. And who can forget the ever-graceful Brewer, stateswoman and author, wagging her finger dismissively in the face of President Obama at an airport in Phoenix last month? And the swashbuckling Sheriff Joe Arpaio lives there, too. He proclaimed himself “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” and now finds himself ensnared in a U.S. Justice Department investigation accusing his department of racially profiling Latinos, basing immigration enforcement on racially charged citizen complaints and punishing Hispanic jail inmates for speaking Spanish. Enter Cecil Ash, a Republican from Mesa, who feels that what Arizona needs now is an official holiday for white folks. The idea apparently came to Ash after state Rep. Richard Miranda proposed a Latino American Day. “I wanted to speak to you all about Latino Americans here in Arizona,” Miranda said on the House floor Monday. After some debate, Ash stepped forward with his grand idea. “I’m supportive of this proposition and I think it’s well deserved,” he said. “I just want them to assure me that when we do become in the minority you’ll have a day for us.” There was laughter on the House floor. On CBS 5 News, reporter Elizabeth Erwin introduced her story on the latest state controversy saying, “You can’t make this stuff up.” No you can’t. On the street, a random woman in a baseball cap said Ash’s proposal made sense. Of course. “Like they have Cinco de Mayo for Mexicans,” she told CBS 5 News, “we need something for whites.” Only in Arizona. Ash, for his part, wasn’t backing down. “I think it was appropriate,” he told the station, referring to his proposed holiday. “It was appropriate for the mood that was in the House and I think that if and when the Caucasian population becomes a minority, they may want to celebrate the accomplishments and the contributions of the Caucasian population the same way.” Thoughts???? Another Day, Another Pervert Popped… Longtime AAU President Bobby Dodd Investigated Over Sexual Abuse Claims

Damn, it turns out pedophilia is just running rampant in sports. And the stuff this guy Dodd is accused of is just sick. The Amateur Athletic Union announced that it has contacted Memphis police and launched its own investigation after ESPN reported on Friday that the organization’s longtime president, Bobby Dodd, allegedly sexually abused two young basketball players during the 1980s. Ralph West, now a 43-year-old who lives in Miami, and a man who requested anonymity told ESPN they independently confronted Dodd about the abuse last month after former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky was charged with sexual abuse. The second man said Dodd, 63, apologized for the abuse during an eight-minute phone conversation on Nov. 11. The men say the abuse occurred between the ages of 12 and 16, when they played basketball for Memphis-based AAU teams directed by Dodd. The men say Dodd fondled them and masturbated in front of them while they were in their teens. Neither man reported the abuse to the police. When an ESPN reporter contacted Dodd, the AAU’s top official since 1992, for comment, Dodd’s assistant responded with an email that said Dodd had cancer and had retired from the AAU on Nov. 29 for health reasons, the network said. Other AAU officials, however, said his departure was news to them. The sports organization said Dodd would not return and named an interim leader. West and the other man told ESPN that Dodd kept hundreds of photos of players’ clothed backsides and crotches in filing cabinets. He also had bags filled with dozens of pairs of teenage boys’ underwear with names and dates on them. Dodd also had samples of boys’ hair that he kept in envelopes or affixed to the dashboard of his car with petroleum jelly. West said he once found Dodd hiding in the attic of the coach’s home, in his underwear, with a video camera. Dodd, who had told players they could use his home to party with girlfriends because he would be out of town, was apparently trying to record West and a girl. The former player said Dodd offered him $1,000 if he agreed to let Dodd perform oral sex on him while he was blindfolded and bound. The anonymous player told ESPN that Dodd had plied him with alcohol and drugged him one night, and he believes the coach abused him while he was passed out. West said he had sent an email to the AAU’s compliance department on Nov. 9 alleging that Dodd was a pedophile because he was concerned the AAU leader still had access to children through his Memphis AAU club and as the head of a national organization that serves more than 500,000 children. Nobody followed up, he told ESPN.

You Can’t Be Serious: Rick Perry Makes A Damn Fool Of Himself Once Again!!

And another one… The flubs keep on coming. In yet another campaign day marred by a slip-up, Texas Gov. Rick Perry produced headlines today during an important editorial board interview with the Des Moines Register — not for his impassioned defense of a controversial new TV ad about his faith, but instead for a mealy-mouthed screw up. “Montemayor?” he said, struggling to name one of the nine Supreme Court justices. He went on to blast the court as “eight unelected and frankly unaccountable judges. ” There are nine. Since his infamous inability to remember the third of three government agencies he’d eliminate during the CNBC debate in Michigan last month, Perry’s every verbal pratfall has offered the lead paragraph in news stories and the lead joke in late-night comedy shows. Mistakes that might be downplayed from more consistently articulate candidates get spotlight treatment for the Texas pol, whose “swagger” narrative deteriorated quickly as his gaffes grew more and more frequent. Friday’s torrent of “Brain Freeze Again?” headlines was reminiscent of those after a recent campaign stop in New Hampshire, where Perry’s pitch to repair his damaged credentials on border security were derailed by a numerical mixup. “Those of you that will be 21 by November the 12th, I ask for your support and your vote,” he declared to titters from those who recognized the voting age error. (Oh, and the election isn’t on the 12th.) Trying to correct for the bungle, Perry took to the TV airwaves to discuss his efforts to perform well in the “New Hampshire caucuses.” They’re primaries. Zuccotti Park Reopens To Occupy Wall Street Protesters

MTV News hits the streets to talk to demonstrators after early morning police raid. By Joel Hanek Occupy Wall Street protesters in Zuccotti Park before being evicted on Tuesday morning Photo: Spencer Platt/ Getty Images Hours after police officers evicted hundreds of protesters from Zuccotti Park , a judge ordered that they be allowed to return. Nearly two months from the inaugural protest date, NYPD officers moved into the lower Manhattan park, forcing out protesters as cleaning crews moved in. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg addressed the matter on his website and assured that the move was only temporary. “Protesters have had two months to occupy the park with tents and sleeping bags. Now they will have to occupy the space with the power of their arguments.” Patrick Macleod, a member of the Occupy movement who arrived on site shortly after the police had cleared out the space, reported several skirmishes and use of tear gas by police in the early morning confrontation. Click through to “Voices From Occupy Wall Street” — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators’ motivations, hopes and goals. “Everybody kind of split off into different groups, then there was four or five separate groups,” he told MTV News about the aftermath. “I was with a group that went down to the Town Hall area, and we held the park there; that’s where I spent the night. It felt like we waited the cops out, but they may have just been teasing us or something.” After dispersing, the Occupy Wall Street website called for an assembly on nearby Canal Street. Around 10 a.m., hundreds of protesters returned to march around the still-police-occupied, privately owned park, claiming their right to occupy the space. On site, MTV News witnessed a few arrests of protesters who tampered with barricades or tried to invade the park; they were forcibly removed by police. “Earlier today, the Supreme Court of New York said they put a temporary injunction saying that we could go back into the park. They also said that the police and the fire department could not stop us,” one protester told MTV News. “We are allowed back in.” Share your thoughts about the Occupy raid in the comments below.
