Surveillance: Teens Beat Elderly Man, Friend in Cleveland

CLEVELAND – It's an unthinkable crime. Cleveland Police say a group of teens — aged, 15-18 years — pulled a 73-year-old man from his car, then kicked, beat and punched him relentlessly. The vicious assault was caught on a surveillance camera. Sgt. David Rutt of the Cleveland Police Dept. says the teens started attacking after the man and his 51-year-old friend, got angry because the teens were loitering near his house. “There was a group of six to seven juveniles standing in the driveway, blocking their entrance,” said Sgt. Rutt. “The juveniles became more aggressive.” Sgt. Rutt says the men did the right thing, by driving away from the E. 71st St. home in an attempt to get away from mob of angry teens. Police say the men drove down the street to Harpster's Market. The 51-year-old man got out of the car and went inside to call police. According to police, that's when the trouble began. “The juveniles followed them down to the market and while the one man is inside using the phone to call police, the crowd began to taunt the passenger,” said Sgt. Rutt. The teens the pulled the 73-year-old man from his car. First, two teens started kicking him, then the group grew to around six teens, all beating, punching and kicking the elderly man. The mob of teens also attacked the 51-year-old man. Both were hospitalized, one with facial fractures. Cleveland police have arrested four of the teens seen in the video, but they're still looking for two more. Sgt. Rutt says the surveillance video clearly shows the severity of the crime. “You can see on the video you have a large group of young adults basically assaulting two very elderly gentleman.” And although the the attack happened in late March, police are still actively looking for the other two suspects. Bret Michaels Condition Growing Worse, Prognosis Grave… According to Donald Trump

According to a representative for Bret Michaels, the rocker “remains in ICU under 24 hour surveillance” and “further testing this week will help locate the source of the bleeding” While not exactly encouraging news about the singer, who suffered a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage last week, this message on BretMichaels.com is at least based on fact and written by someone close to the situation. Then there’s the latest from Donald Trump. Like a Republican politican resorting to scare tactics for attention, the Celebrity Apprentice host tells TMZ that Michaels is in “big, big trouble and the prognosis is not great.” Trump doesn’t back this statement up with any medical information, but does at least offer the following about Bret, who is competing on The Donald’s reality show: “He turns out to be an amazing competitor and ultimately that is the thing that could save his life.” We sure hope so. Meanwhile, a new theory has surfaced about Bret’s condition. Because such hemorrhages are typically related to blunt trauma, might this accident have caused the bleed? It certainly seems possible.

On Michaels’ MySpace page , one user wrote, “Praying for you Bret and your family. You are strong and you will come thru this. I’ve been a fan for a long time and will be forever!” In addition to the social networking sites, Michaels’ official Web site has become a hub for the dissemination of information. But at one point on Monday morning (April 26), as his name continued to be a top Internet search term, the site actually crashed as it struggled to keep up with all the clicks. “Bret remains in ICU under 24 hour surveillance,” a message on his Web site and social networking sites read. “Further testing this week will help locate the source of the bleeding.” Facebook user Cathleen Kulinski Beckwith typified the collective response of fans when she wrote on his wall, “I sure hope that they find out what the problem is very soon before it’s too late. My continued thoughts and prayers are with Bret and his beloved family and friends.” Related Artists Bret Michaels

Is the U.S. Government Spying on a Tiny Secret-Sharing Website? [Espionage]

Wikileaks.org is a website legendary in certain circles for posting documents people want hidden from the world. The Pentagon is not a fan. Now, Wikileaks is accusing the U.S. of spying on its editors. Tonight, Wikileaks tweeted that it was “currently under an aggressive US and Icelandic surveillance operation,” and provided a few creepy details: These might sound like the paranoid rantings of an Internet nutjob, but coming from Wikileaks we are inclined to the believe them: In 2008, the Pentagon commissioned a report on the site, which found that “‘WikiLeaks.org represents a potential force protection, counterintelligence, OPSEC and INFOSEC threat to the U.S. Army’ – or, in plain English, a threat to Army operations and information,” according to the Times . (Wikileaks posted the report to its site last week.) Wikileaks, which is run by a 9-person advisory board, has built a reputation based on its impressive record of posting secret documents like the ones that threaten the U.S. Army. These include emails hacked from Sarah Palin’s private account, 570,000 pager messages from 9/11 and the infamous climate change scientist emails. They have also posted sensitive U.S. military documents—most prominently the standard operating procedures for Guantanamo Bay. Judging from their tweets, Wikileaks believes the surveillance is related to an upcoming presentation where they will show unencrypted footage of a May 7 U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan which killed 97 civilians: The Pentagon had originally planned to show the video as proof that it had conducted the operation appropriately, despite having used airbursting bombs with civilians in the area. They later back-pedaled , likely because video was actually more incriminating than they first believed. Wikileaks obtained a copy of the encrypted video, and in January they tweeted “Have encrypted videos of US bomb strikes on civilians… we need super computer time.” They must have got that super computer time, and now U.S. authorities may be acting positively Chinese. Secret-sharing websites like Wikileaks have proven adept at dealing with legal challenges: When Cryptone.org was shut down by Microsoft earlier this year a mirror site was up within hours. But pissing off the government regarding national security matters is a whole other level. If anything happens to Wikileaks, you know who is responsible. (If you’re wondering what the editors were doing in Iceland: Wikileaks is currently helping draft legislation that would make the country a safe haven for investigative journalists. Ha!)
