Before he skulked the streets of Seattle on The Killing and nabbed the role of Alex Murphy in the upcoming RoboCop reboot, Joel Kinnaman made a splash in his home country of Sweden with the crime drama Easy Money (nee Snabba Cash ). The Weinstein Co. snapped up the pic, which also put director Daniel Espinoza ( Safe House ) on Hollywood’s radar, and will debut it stateside this July… with the hefty endorsement of none other than Martin Scorsese. Finally (!) we have the first domestic trailer for Easy Money , in which Kinnaman’s pretty-boy business major, craving the wealthy lifestyle he never had growing up, becomes entangled with warring crime lords in Stockholm and finds himself in way over his head. In Easy Money , which screened to a packed house last weekend at the LA Film Fest , Kinnaman stars as JW, a small-town opportunist who attends business school by day and drives cabs at night. His dorm room walls are covered with fashion inserts from mens’ magazines, the blueprints by which he fakes his way into the upper-class social circle that he longs to be a part of. There’s a rich girl, Sophie, who catches his eye, and privileged bankers’ sons he befriends, but as much as JW is consumed by his need to be accepted by into this world of wealth and class, he’s acutely aware that he’s living a lie. Enter opportunity, in the form of local gangster Abdulkarim (Mahmut Suvakci), who has a task for JW: Pick up prison escapee Jorge (Matias Varela) for a small fortune, no questions asked. JW complies, seeing the chance to finally seize the life he dreams of. But as a rival gang’s operative (Dragomir Mrsic) begins questioning his own priorities — namely, the young daughter he hardly knows — the stakes escalate as all players follow their own agendas in the pursuit of a payday. Presented with English subtitles, Easy Money (based on the novel by Jens Lapidus) will be released on July 27, and as the domestic trailer hints at, Espinoza’s storytelling transcends the language barriers; his weaving of storylines and character motivations becomes impressively engrossing as Easy Money reaches its climax, bolstered by solid performances and a layered editing style. Targeting major tech companies including Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft for use of coal derived power, Greenpeace has issued a new report entitled How Clean is Your Cloud? Given the energy-intensive nature of maintaining the cloud, access to significant amounts of electricity is a key factor in decisions about where to build these data centers. Since electricity plays a critical role in the cost structure of companies that use the cloud , there have been dramatic strides made in improving the energy efficiency. However, despite significant improvements in efficiency, the growth in cloud computing far outstrips these energy savings, and coal is still the cheapest power source. Not to mention the dirtiest. The study covers 14 Internet giants, but singles out Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft as the biggest offenders. Apple derives the most data center power (55%) from coal. Apple is building a 20-megawatt solar farm and 5-megawatt fuel cell facility at its new data center in Maiden, N.C., but Greenpeace downplays their significance. Greenpeace takes Apple to task for its decision to locate its data center in North Carolina, which reportedly maintains one of the dirtiest power grids in the U.S. While Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft take the brunt of Greenpeace’s criticism, Yahoo and Google receive high marks for their policies prioritizing renewable energy. Facebook also receives high marks for its recent commitment to renewable energy, including its latest data center in Sweden that is 100% renewable powered.
EDM trio kick off explosive two-day fest at Miami Music Week with help from heavy-hitting openers like Thomas Gold and Calvin Harris. By Akshay Bhansali Fans at Ultra Music Festival 2012 Photo: Getty Images MIAMI — On Friday, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello — the trio also known as Swedish House Mafia — gave fans at Miami Music Week an event to remember. Their two-hour-plus spectacle at Grand Central Park featured stadium-style house music with a backdrop of pyrotechnics and fireworks. Add to that the dazzling graphics bouncing off five enormous LED screens, and it was clear that SHM had accomplished an impressive high mark that won’t be easy match on Saturday night (March 24), when the event kicks off its second day. MTV News caught up with the Swedes just before their set and they talked to us about the long road to their massively successful Masquerade Motel mini-festival. “We’ve done it again,” Angello raved. “For [us], to go out there and enjoy our own party, which is something like this [in scale], it’s amazing to be here.” Last year’s tented, single-day Masquerade party on South Beach “was amazing,” Angello added, “And the year before that was amazing; we’ve come a very long way.” Lined with palm trees, tall office buildings and residential apartments, Grand Central Park had the vibe of being isolated from the rest of Miami, and that made a party filled with 10,000 SHM fans feel intimate. But before the trio even took the stage, a spectacular lineup of opening acts did more than warm up the crowd. Asked about the all-stars preceding them, Seb, Ax and Steve beamed with pride. “We have NO_ID,” Axwell said of the Dutch duo newly signed to his Axtone Records imprint. “We just think that they have a really interesting sound, which is kind of like chunky-groovy-sexy house, so it complements what we are doing very well. Otto Knows is also here. “[Otto is] a young kid from Sweden, one of my really close friends,” Ingrosso chimed in. “He’s like my little brother. We are starting to make music and he just released his first single ever. “Thomas Gold is here,” Axwell added. “Alesso, a guy called Calvin Harris . “Yeah, I don’t know if you know him,” Ingrosso chuckled with a knowing nod to Harris’ accolades on the EDM scene and, most recently, for his work with Rihanna. “Yeah, he’s another guy we found,” Angello joked. “No, Rihanna found him!” Axwell laughed. “He’s always been very interesting and doing creative stuff. By the time the Swedes took their positions behind the decks, it was clear 10,000 screaming fans were ready to take the party to the next level. Just as they’ve done on their last two Stateside Masquerades, they launched into the organ-laden edit of Ax & Sebastian’s “Together”; they followed that with latest hit single, “Greyhound,” marking the song’s drop with a fireworks display. What followed was a clever series of mixes of some of the most popular anthems of the last six months. Among them were Axwell’s edit of Michael Calfan’s “Resurrection” mixed into Fedde Le Grand’s remix of “Paradise,” and “Antidote,” which was given a pyro burst. The crowd went mental when Dirty South and Usual Suspects’ “Walking Alone” was blended perfectly with SHM’s “Miami 2 Ibiza” “That’s right, Miami, it is straight appreciation for ‘Miami 2 Ibiza,’ ” Ax told the crowd. “We realize that are a lot of parties this week and we definitely feel honored that you’ve come to us this week!” SHM also treated fans to set staples, including “Troll” ; Nari & Milani’s “Atom”; Ingrosso, Alesso and Ryan Tedder’s “Calling (Lose My Mind)”; Deniz Koyu’s remix of “Dangerous”; and SHM’s remix of Coldplay’s “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall.” “Are you making new friends?” Axwell asked the partygoers. “Maybe some from the opposite gender? Maybe falling in love? For sure, we are falling love. The Swedish House Mafia loves you guys. Thank you for coming down!” But one of the most unexpected gems of the night came at the very end, when fans got to hear a cook-up Axwell told MTV News in our pre-set chat that he couldn’t wait to play: The SHM/Laidback Luke collabo “Leave the World Behind” (featuring Deborah Cox) was merged with Knife Party’s remix of Porter Robinson’s “Unison.” That mashup was received with a roar from the crowd as the high-energy dance party became another one for the books. NO_ID, Third Party and AN21 join Alesso and Calvin Harris as openers for Swedish House Mafia on the second (and final) day of the Masquerade Motel on Saturday. Selena Gomez and the other girls who aren’t as hot as Selena Gomez even if Selena Gomez looks like she’s 12 cuz her parents put her on some hormone therapy to stunt her growth as a kid to make her get all the roles she needed to get before whoring her out to Usher and his perverted child army and possibly getting her a set of implants….cuz her tits are stacked in ways only good push up bras and implants do……which will feed all your creepy fantasies of 12 year olds with breast implants….cuz you’re weird…and cuz it does. When I look at this, I just wonder how many dicks she’s had….amongst other things that could probably get me arrested….but won’t cuz she’s 19 and that means she’s fair game…. This fake british narrator is seriously jokes.
Elsa Sylvan was born in Sweden in 1987. Has been modeling since 2006 and the highlight of her career as far as I’m concerned is this photoshoot for some magazine I’ve never heard of, with her titty pulled out and exposed, the way I like my titties, especially on fashion models, getting paid to do it, because it makes me remember than morally, they are just a gang of whore strippers looking for the good life, no matter how they try to white wash it, and no matter how many rockstars they fuck instead of johns after their shit, the core of their morals and values are the fucking same…and that’s hot…cuz strippers are fucking trash…but models are all glamourous and shit…especially when pulling out their tit.
On February 28 th 2011 at 6.52pm, a dream I never taught would happen came true. My story may be different from the others because mostly they write about how they met Justin, I haven’t yet but this is my story! My name is Diana, I’m 15 from Sweden and on February 28th my dream came true. Justin sent me a DM which means a lot to me. He is my biggest idol. He wrote to me with his own hands! I was 99.9% sure that I was dreaming. I hope he knows how that little DM means everything to me. Whenever I’m sad, I read it and it puts me a smile on my face. Words just can’t explain it because I never taught that would happen, especially to someone like me. So what I’m trying to say is, dreams really do come true! Since Justin DM’ed, I believe in hopes. Everything comes in their own pace, whenever you expect it or not. Remember that there is always a chance, no matter what! Learn it from the best! -@DABieberMars See original here: On February 28th 2011 at 6.52pm, a dream I never taught would…
During 2011, I had a lot of different problems, medical ones. I don’t want to talk too much about them though. I just want to say that Justin helped me get through it . I couldn’t have gotten through them if I didn’t have Justin in my life. Last year I developed an eating disorder, I lost like 50 lbs. in a short amount of time. It made my life so hard and stressful, but I did get through it. I didn’t ever think eating disorders were that serious, but when I had it, oh my goodness, let me just say it was a tough time. In the beginning of June 2011, I read Justin would be in NYC on June 23rd (I live in Syracuse, NY) for the launch of his perfume Someday. When I read that, I knew I wouldn’t be able to go because it was too far and I didn’t ever think my parents would agree to take me. I even wrote my parents a 10 page letter about why we should go and how much it would mean to me if I could see Justin. Now it was later in the month of June. Yes I still had the medical problem. My parents were also stressed out at this time because of it, they were sad seeing me always upset. Some of you might think it was simple enough for me to just over come this dumb eating problem, but it wasn’t that simple. My parents would do absolutely anything to help me because they didn’t want to see me ever get hurt or end up in one of those eating disorder homes. My dad told me that the next time Justin comes to NY or somewhere on the east coast, he would take me to see Justin… ONLY IF I HELPED MYSELF! My dad thought that if he took me, maybe I could help myself overcome this problem I had. And it did. On June 21st I told my dad that Justin was coming to NYC on June 23rd. My dad called me out from work, and told me we were leaving tonight to go to NYC. I couldn’t believe it! Justin tweeted a picture of fans already lined up outside of Macy’s. We got in NYC at 3:30 AM Wednesday. We got in line and the Macy’s worker said we were #178 and #179 out of 325 people. I was so shocked and relieved. Dreams really can come true. Then finally on June 23rd, 2011. We were in line and then I remember seeing some people in Justin’s team. The whole time we were in line, Justin’s songs were playing! It was time people started getting pictures taken. I remember when I saw him. I couldn’t believe it, again, he didn’t look real. I couldn’t believe that this kind of stuff actually happened in life. I remember right before I saw him, Ne-Yo’s song “Give Me Everything” was playing now every time I hear it I cry, tears of joy. Then it was my turn. I was crying so hard, I was so embarrassed, then I got up there. Justin said to me, “Don’t cry,” so nicely and I tried to say, “Okay” but I don’t really even know what came out of my mouth. I was crying too much. He held my wrist as I walked off the stage. I couldn’t believe it! It was only a few seconds I was there with him but it was the best. The security people were really caring and nice towards me because I was crying so hard. But I was so happy because this was the best day of my life. I miss NYC too because it was the best experience. I really feel like I know Justin, like as a person and how he thinks, acts and feels in life. People might think this is corny but he truly is like my best friend. I don’t go to regular school now, so I don’t talk to other people nor have any friends, other than my mom. I don’t care because when I feel sad or something, I walk into my room with all my JB posters or listen to his music and I feel all better. Justin makes me realize what’s really important in life, and just seeing him in person changed my whole outlook on life. Everything just worked out PERFECT for me at that time in my life. It happened for a reason. I just needed a break and God gave me one . I know if Justin knew me at the time, he would NOT want me to have that problem, and whenever I face a situation, I think what would Justin do or want me to do? Life is way too short, so people should just have fun and live their dreams. Thank you Justin for everything you do for everyone. You have helped me with so many rough times in life. If any of you ever think about giving up in life, don’t do it. There was a point where I wanted to give up on everything but I didn’t because of Justin Bieber. -Suzanne (@jbieberkon) Original post: During 2011, I had a lot of different problems, medical ones. I…
Now where on this list do the women of color live??? Yesterday we spotlighted the top 10 cities with the best looking men for the ladies… so today we had to show the fellas what the “most beautiful women” in the world reside. Thanks again to Traveler’s Digest and their newly-published yet biased list of where they consider the world’s hottest women call home. Check out the list and let us know if their seems to be a little something missing. Because last time we checked, blonde and blue eyed becky’s aren’t the be all end all of beauty.
Might be time to get that passport ladies… For most people, good-looking men don’t normally qualify as a tourist attraction. But that could all change thanks to Traveler’s Digest and their newly-published list of where the world’s hottest men call home. While the magazine doesn’t give much detail about their choices, they do assure readers that the selection process was based entirely on a woman’s perspective. We’re not sure which woman, but we hope she didn’t bring home any permanent souvenirs. So pack your bags, lady travelers, and declare your independence from the tired, wack man crop in your neck of the woods. After all, mingling with the natives technically counts as a cultural experience worthy of more than just a notch on the bedpost.
These deals-in-the-making stories always carry a grain of salt since nothing in Hollywood is ever so sure just about until the cameras roll, but the trade scoop that The Killing ‘s Joel Kinnaman may be your next RoboCop is just too tantalizing. Joel Kinnaman who , you may ask, and rightly so? The Swedish-American actor’s been in a handful of stateside film projects here and there (including the recent Safe House and, briefly, Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ) but the closer I look at his work, the more enticing this casting move becomes. According to a Tweet by Variety’s Jeff Sneider (also confirmed by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter ), Kinnaman has been offered the lead in Jose Padilha’s reboot of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 sci-fi pic. “Dealmaking is expected to begin imminently,” writes THR’s Boris Kit, whatever that really means. In any case, it’s the first solid movement on a RoboCop lead since those Michael Fassbender fantasy rumors were waved away by the secretive Padilha. Kinnaman’s not an obvious choice to headline a high profile franchise reboot, but he’s been dancing on the cusp of breakout status for a few years. The 32-year-old Kinnaman got his start in Swedish film, most notably taking the lead in Daniel Espinosa’s crime adaptation Easy Money (AKA Snabba Cash ), based on Jens Lapidus’s novel; the film is being released in the U.S. on July 27 and will be remade in English with Zac Efron , while a Kinnaman-starring sequel, Snabba Cash II , is set for release in Sweden in 2012. According to the Swedish website Ostran.se , Kinnaman was once up for the leads in both Thor and Mad Max 4 (the roles went to Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hardy, respectively), so Hollywood filmmakers have already been looking at him to carry a major studio release. But while he’s obviously pretty easy on the eyes, it’s his screen presence — whether speaking English and Swedish — that’s impressed me the most. Take a look at Kinnaman below and weigh in: Is there cause to be excited if this is indeed your new RoboCop?
