Adele: 21 Amazing Facts About 21

As Adele marks one year on the Billboard charts, we look at 21 amazing facts about the equally amazing 21. By Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery Adele Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic The traditional gift for a one-year anniversary is paper. Though, considering that Adele has sold more than 6 million copies of her breakthrough album 21 since its U.S. release one year ago this week, trust us, paper is the one thing the Grammy-winning British songbird has plenty of. What she’s also racked up over the past 52 weeks is a gang of awards, records and amazing feats of music industry daring that most people thought just weren’t possible in the download era. So, on the anniversary of the unstoppable album’s chart debut, we thought we’d take a look back at the year that was, with 21 amazing facts about 21 . 1. In February 2011, 21 debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with first-week sales of 352,000 copies. It stayed in the top three for 24 consecutive weeks and has never fallen out of the top 10 since its release. 2. In the year since its release, 21 ‘s lowest chart position was #7, in November 2011. The following week, it was back at #2, and it hasn’t left the top three since. 3. With her , Adele has broken the record previously held by the late Whitney Houston ‘s soundtrack to “The Bodyguard” by notching 21 non-consecutive weeks at #1. 4. The album’s 21 weeks atop the chart also mean that it spent a staggering 40 percent of the past year as the country’s #1 album. 5. 21 was not only the best-selling album of 2011 in the U.S. — with sales of more than 5.8 million — it’s also the best-selling digital album of all time in this country, racking up more than 2 million downloads to date. 6. The album debuted at #1 in the U.K. upon its release on January 30, 2011, and held that spot for four weeks. After she sang “Someone Like You” on the BRIT Awards telecast, sales increased by nearly 900 percent on Amazon.co.uk within an hour of her performance. She also set a Guinness World Record in September 2011 by becoming the first female artist to have two singles and two albums in the U.K. top five simultaneously. 7. 21 was also the best-selling album of the 21st century in the U.K., passing Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black. 8. 21 has topped the charts in 27 different countries, including Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, Poland and Greece, and has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide. 9. In the U.S. alone, 21 has sold more copies in one year than Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, Rihanna’s Talk That Talk and Beyonc

Mini Anden Nipple for Harper’s Bazaar Turkey of the Day

You don’t know who Mini Anden is and either do I…but I do know what her nipple looks like under some kind of sheer fabric because she’s just that kind of girl…a model from Sweden, even though she is neither blonde or busty, in her 30s who has moved to LA because she wants to pursue acting, but since roles like “supermodel in ocean’s twelve” aren’t cutting it for her and her model husband’s bank accounts, she’s taking on cover shoots for Arab country franchises of fashion magazines, showing more nipple than most American magazines, because Christian run governments are way more uptight than Muslim run governments….cuz Christians are just as fucking crazy….and cuz showing her tits for fashion is kinda her thing…Who cares…here are the pics.

New Year’s Weekend Receipts: 2011 Ends with a Box Office Boost

It was a buoyant holiday frame for the last releases of 2011, with audiences turning out in droves (and likely family-loaded minivans) to boost just about every film in theaters. Biggest congrats are in order for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol , which is indeed set to make in 17 days what Mission: Impossible III made in its entire theatrical run. And, look! A bunch more people caught the timely holiday spirit and bought a Zoo this week, along with a War Horse and, uh, Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve . Enjoy it while it lasts, Garry. Auld lang syne, 2011. Your holiday weekend receipts after the jump! 1. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol Gross: $31,250,000 ($134,139,000 ) Screens: 3,455 (PSA $9,045) Weeks: 3 (Change: +5.9%) Tom Cruise’s latest spy outing dominates yet again. Pop the champagne and commence the couch-jumping! (I know, I know. That joke is so 2005.) 2. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Gross: $22,095,000 ($132,100,000) Screens: 3,703 (PSA $5,967) Weeks: 3 (Change: +9.1%) Sherlock 2 may not have the flashy buzz that MI:4 has enjoyed, and it’s trailed behind Ghotocol all these weeks, but consider: its domestic tally is only $2 million behind that of the box office champ. Pat on the back, good sirs! 3. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked Gross: $18,250,000 ($94,609,000) Screens: 3,724 (PSA $4,901) Weeks: 3 (Change: +45%) Chipwrecked is on track to cross $100 million this week. Look at what you’ve done, America. 4. War Horse Gross: $16,940,000 ($42,969,000) Screens: 2,547 (PSA $6,651) Weeks: 2 (Change: +125.4%) At least one of Spielberg’s two new jams is picking up speed, and how : War Horse ‘s whopping increase, up 125.4 percent from last week, only solidifies those designs on the Oscars. And what a no brainer, anyway — what movie screams “Take the aunts and uncles and cousins and gramps to the movies since you’re still stuck at home after Christmas” like a movie that combines Spielbergian sentiment, old-timey war, and a horse? 5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Gross: $16,300,000 ($57,100,000) Screens: 2,914 (PSA: $5,594) Weeks: 2 (Change: +27.8%) …unless Fincher + goth punk intrigue + the Yeah Yeah Yeahs + a little rape ‘n’ revenge in the icy climes of Sweden is more your family’s style. In which case, can I come visit next Christmas? 6. We Bought a Zoo Gross: $14,300,000 ($41,787,000) Screens: 3,163 (PSA: $4,521) Weeks: 2 (Change: +52.8) Great! The new Cameron Crowe caught on better this week, probably thanks to those billboards featuring gift-wrapped exotic animals. Just another irresponsible message for audiences to eat up to add to the pile. 7. The Adventures of Tintin Gross: $12,000,000 ($47,841,000) Screens: 3,087 (PSA: $3,887) Weeks: 2 (Change: +23.6%) One out of two ain’t bad, I suppose… especially when the foreign box office is carrying the Belgian boy detective adventure to the tune of $239 million and counting. 8. New Year’s Eve Gross: $6,741,000 ($46,372,000) Screens: 2,225 (PSA: $3,030) Weeks: 4 (Change: +103.7%) Of course there were people who went to the multiplex this week, skimmed past the War Horses and Girls with the Dragon Tattoos , and the Mission: Impossibles , and thought “Y’know what? LET’S GO SEE THAT ONE ABOUT NEW YEAR’S EVE!” Of course. Just die already, movie. 9. The Darkest Hour Gross: $4,300,000 ($13,200,000) Screens: 2,327 (PSA: $1,848) Weeks: 2 (Change: +43.3%) Summit farted a new action-packed adventure into theaters this Christmas with nary a peep of marketing, so we can assume anyone who went to see The Darkest Hour — a movie about killer aliens who look like lightbulbs or light or something — were just playing movie roulette when they bought their tickets. It’ll be out of the top 10 by next week, and out of our collective consciousness even sooner. I guess when you have all that Twilight money you can create your own pre-dumping ground frame before the January dumping grounds even begin? 10. The Descendants Gross: $3,650,000 ($39,675,000) Screens: 758 (PSA: $4,815) Weeks: 7 (Change: +76%) Good on the Alexander Payne drama that, in its seventh week, it managed to sneak into the top 10 with a totally decent per-screen average on less than 800 screens to boot. Let’s see if The Descendants can prove its awards season mettle by sticking it out in the coming weeks. [Figures via Box Office Mojo ]

Did the Muppets Lift a Famous Number from a Swedish Skin Flick? [VIDEO]

All signs point to yes. If you grew up watching the Muppet Show or Sesame Street , there are sure to be some conflicting sensations in your shorts when you see this clip from the 1968 exploitation opus Svezia, inferno e paradiso (aka Sweden: Heaven and Hell ). Directed by spaghetti-porn pioneer Luigi Scattini , Sweden: Heaven and Hell promises to take viewers into the deepest depths of Scandinavian depravity, like lesbian nightclubs, swinger’s parties, and a then-brand new kind of place: the porn set…all in the name of education, natch. In this sequence we see gorgeous Swedish blondes relaxing in a sauna. Unfortunately, it cuts away before the towels come off, but if you’ve seen the classic Muppet sketch with Dr. Howey and the Snowths , the tune should ring a bell: Want more Scandinavian skin? Check out Mr. Skin’s massive database of Swedish skinema from Christina Lindberg to Noomi Rapace right here at MrSkin.com!

Alexander Skarsgard Raves About Working With Dad In ‘Melancholia’

But Stellan is ‘such a douche bag’ in the Lars von Trier movie, Alexander laughs to MTV News. By Amy Wilkinson Alexander and Stellan Skarsg&#aring;rd Photo: Jeff Vespa/Getty Images ” Melancholia ” certainly isn’t the first film to contemplate the end of the world as we know it, but the dreamy drama from writer/director Lars von Trier does boast its own noteworthy debut: the teaming of father/son duo Stellan and Alexander Skarsg&#aring;rd In the movie, out Friday (November 11) in New York and L.A., Alexander plays mild-mannered Michael, the man who marries Kirsten Dunst ‘s slightly unhinged Justine. Father Stellan plays Justine’s boss and Michael’s best man, Jack – a role that required the elder Skarsg&#aring;rd to act out some less than savory behavior. “He’s such a douche bag in the movie,” Alexander said with a grin. “Your dad’s a douche bag?” Dunst answered, laughing. “Well, he is,” Alexander confirmed. “What I thought was interesting about Michael was that he’d pick this guy as his best man at his wedding. This is not his best friend. It’s his wife’s boss, and he does it just to kind of help his wife in his career. It says a lot about Michael.” (Not to mention the trajectory of their love affair.) Despite Jack’s unpleasant demeanor, working with dad Stellan was an experience Alexander truly cherished. “It was awesome,” he enthused. “We’ve never worked together before. He’s one of my best friends. I love hanging out with him. Being able to hang out for two months – we shot in [our home country of] Sweden, and I thought it was great that he wasn’t my dad.” “They’re really cute together as father and son,” Dunst chimed in. “They’re like bros.” “He’s pretty rad. He’s a cool cat,” Alexander said. Check out everything we’ve got on “Melancholia.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Breast Milk Banks Of America Needs More Of That Liquid Gold! Supply Cannot Keep Up With The Demand

SIMILAC! The rising demand for human breast milk in neonatal intensive care units has prompted an impassioned plea from America’s milk banks. Donated milk, dubbed “liquid gold,” can save the lives of preterm babies whose moms can’t produce milk themselves. But the 1.8 million ounces of milk distributed by non-profit milk banks across the country covers less than a quarter of the 8 million ounces needed, according to the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. “We need every healthy, breast-feeding mom to say, ‘I want to be a donor,” said Kim Updegrove, the association’s president elect. “Then we’d have enough milk for every preterm baby. Even a small amount is lifesaving.” Human breast milk is rich in nutrients that help tiny preemies grow and antibodies that guard them against infections, which is why more NICU doctors are prescribing it. Now three-quarters of milk bank orders come from hospitals — up from 60 percent just last year. “All babies should receive human milk. But because it’s a scarce resource, we prioritize it for preterm infants in neonatal intensive care who weigh three pounds or less,” said Updegrove. “These babies respond the best in terms of decreased infection rates and shorter hospital stays.” There are 10 milk banks in the U.S., down from 30 in the pre-HIV 1980s. The virus closed every bank except for one — the Mothers’ Milk Bank in San Jose. “We’ve been open for 37 years,” said Sakamoto. “And we’ve never been in this position where we’ve had to cut back orders to hospitals.” For non-profit milk banks, the rising demand is bittersweet. On one hand, it reflects the growing appreciation for human breast milk’s benefits. But it also means the service is getting more expensive. Instead of shipping hospitals a month’s supply, the banks are forced to send milk as it become available, increasing shipping costs. The increased price could mean more moms sharing online — a practice discouraged by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration because of the risk of disease. While the 10 milk banks under the Human Milk Banking Association of North America umbrella have strict standards for donor screening and pasteurization, informal milk sharing sites do not. “While it may be compassionate to share informally, it’s unsafe medically and dangerous legally,” said Updegrove. “You’re sharing a body fluid with someone else’s child.” Sharing through milk banks, Updegrove said, ensures safe milk gets to babies who need it to live. “Human milk is not just best for these infants, it’s absolutely lifesaving.” Source

Rihanna Cancels Swedish Show Due to Exhaustion

Wednesday’s Stockholm concert called off; singer tweeted photo of herself in a hospital bed Monday, explaining she had the flu. By Gil Kaufman Rihanna Photo: James Devaney/WireImage Rihanna is going to need a bit more time to chill before she can continue her overseas tour. After canceling a show in Malmo, Sweden , on Monday due to a bout with flu-like symptoms, the singer was forced to pull out from another show Wednesday night, when again, she felt under the weather. A spokesperson for tour promoter Live Nation told the Associated Press that RiRi felt ill before her concert in Stockholm on Wednesday night, and after consulting with a doctor, decided to cancel the show an hour before she was scheduled to take the stage. Live Nation’s Kristofer Akesson said Rihanna “is exhausted and doesn’t feel well,” but did not elaborate on what ails her. Promoters have said they plan to reschedule the gigs, but have not said when they will take place. She was able to perform at the first to two scheduled shows in Stockholm on Tuesday night. On Monday, Rihanna tweeted a photo of herself in a Swedish hospital bed with an IV in her arm along with an apologetic note that read, “Sorry Malmo!!! #LOUDtour.” She later released a statement, explaining, “I am sorry to everyone who was coming out to my show in Malmo. I was so excited to perform for you all. It would have been a great time … so much better than being sick with the flu, ugh! I’m really disappointed I couldn’t be there.” Rihanna is on the European leg of her worldwide Loud Tour , which began in the States in the summer. The tour — which has included openers J.Cole , B.o.B, Cee Lo Green and Calvin Harris — is expected to continue until the end of the year. The singer recently set another career mark when “We Found Love” became her 11th #1 hit, breaking the three-way record she shared with Stevie Wonder and Janet Jackson for 10 career #1 singles. According to Billboard, she also set a record by racking up 20 Hot 100 top-10 singles faster than any other solo artist in the chart’s history, reaching that pinnacle in six years and four months, which is five months faster than Madonna.
