Get Your Life Together: Friends Think “Little Miss Slizzard Slutshine” Rih Rih Needs Rehab

Poor Rih Rih has sparked concerns that she may be headed for a breakdown . For the past 2 years RiRi has suffered major personal set backs and is said to suffer from ‘alcohol abuse,’. Sources say if Rihanna doesn’t slow her roll, she’ll end up in rehab or worse, — but if these reports are true that might be a good thing… Rihanna’s friends are so worried about her hard-partying ways they’re urging the singer to check into rehab – before she meets the same tragic fate as Amy Winehouse. Concerns about the “We Found Love” songbird reached a fever pitch in mid-December after she was forced to race offstage during the middle of a concert to vomit. But instead of being more cautious about her well-being after that episode, the 23-year old has continued to party and lose weight. “Rihanna has gone off the deep end,” disclosed a source in the music industry. “She has been burning the candle at both ends for nearly a year and now she’s on the verge of collapse. On Halloween, she landed in a Swedish hospital with the flu.And she reportedly suffered a meltdown before a November concert in Ireland, threatening to cancel the Dublin show because she was exhausted. But the situation came to a head on Dec. 17 when Rihanna rushed offstage midsong in Lisbon, Portugal, to throw up. Still, she managed to pull herself together and partied through the night with members of her entourage. Might be time for Rih Rih to have a seat. Or maybe she’s just a girl that loves the party life…. Source

Michelle Obama ‘Is Really Funny,’ Miranda Cosgrove Says

‘iCarly’ star tells MTV News about first lady’s cameo, airing Monday on Nickelodeon. By Jocelyn Vena Jennette McCurdy, Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Michelle Obama in “iCarly: iMeet the First Lady” Photo: Lisa Rose/Nickelodeon Miranda Cosgrove is welcoming her biggest and most political guest star to date on Monday’s episode of “iCarly.” The teen star will be joined by first lady Michelle Obama in a very special episode of the series aptly called “iMeet the First Lady.” The episode, which airs at 7:30 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon, will follow Carly as she prepares to welcome her military dad home for his birthday. When he’s unable to come back from his deployment, the First Lady meets with Carly to thank her for her family’s sacrifice and service. Cosgrove said the idea for the episode came courtesy of Mrs. O herself after watching the show with her daughters. “It was one of the most exciting days in the entire time we’ve been filming the series in the last five years,” she said. “Because there was Secret Service everywhere and there’s just so much preparation for her coming and everybody was so excited to meet her. And then she came to the set and she was really down to earth and fun.” Given that Mrs. Obama is such a rookie when it comes to acting, the young Hollywood heavyweight weighed in on the first lady’s skills, giving her two thumbs up. “In real life she’s really funny, so I think that helped a lot because she just has a really good sense of humor,” she said. “So, she has good comic timing.” While the episode is about Carly’s experience in a military family, the episode really pays homage to all the military families out there. “This is really the best thing we could have done because it’s all about celebrating military families, just really letting all these kids know how important their parents are and how great they are for supporting them,” Cosgrove said. In fact, just to show how much support the show has for these families, the cast has been hosting special screenings of the episode at military bases throughout the country. The last will be held Friday (January 13) near Washington, D.C., at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia. “It’s been really fun going to all the different military bases and meeting all the families and kids,” Cosgrove said. “They’re the first ones who get to see it … The response has been really good.” And at this last screening, Cosgrave will be joined by her super special co-star. “Mrs. Obama is going to be there and we’re going to get to see her again,” she teased. “And maybe we’ll randomly dance.” Are you excited for the presidential episode of “iCarly”? Deniz Koyu Talks Quick Rise Into EDM’s Elite

‘I actually got into dance music quite late,’ German producer tells MTV News. By Adam Stewart Deniz Koyu Photo: MTV News One of dance music’s hottest underground names of 2011 is geared up to be one of dance music’s biggest draws of 2012. For those of you who have not been to a show or listened to a proper comp mix in the past six months, here’s your chance to get acquainted with one of the most talented people in the game, Deniz Koyu . MTV News recently sat down with the German producer while he was on tour with Fedde Le Grand, and even he admits that his ascension to the big league is something he never quite expected. “I actually got into dance music and house music quite late, like 18 or 19,” said Koyu, who recently made MTV News’ list of EDM Rookies to Watch . “Before, I was just into anything, pop music and indie pop also. I was also a huge fan of Daft Punk — maybe this is one of my big influences. Then there was this era with all this disco house stuff, which influenced me as well. Then electro house was big for a short period of time, then it went into progressive house. So yeah, I kind of got influenced by all of this over the past five years.” In that short time, Koyu has turned his personal tastes into thump-tastic tunes with some of the most unique and well-produced tracks you’re likely to find. In fact, less than a month ago, Swedish House Mafia showcased three of his tracks at their highly anticipated Madison Square Garden show , more than any other non-SHM artist in their set. If anything, Koyu’s calling card is his ability to avoid being recognized for any one signature thumbprint or production technique, but rather his uncanny ability to produce

‘Mission: Impossible’ Still #1 In 2012

‘Ghost Protocol,’ the fourth ‘M:I’ movie, made $134 million in 17 days. By Ryan J. Downey Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol” Photo: Paramount Pictures Tom Cruise’s domination of the holidays continued as “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” remained the #1 movie at the box office, taking in $31.3 million over the New Year’s weekend. The fourth entry in the action franchise has made an estimated $134 million in just 17 days, which is about what “Mission: Impossible III” made during its entire theatrical run. “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” was the runner-up in the box office race, collecting $22.1 million during its second weekend in theaters for $132.1 million total. Robert Downey Jr.’s second outing as the famous detective of classic literature carried an estimated production budget of $90 million. “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked,” the third movie in the series, came in third on the New Year’s box office scorecard. “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” jumped 45 percent from last weekend with $18.3 million for a $94.6 million total, which is about $45 million behind where the first “Alvin and the Chipmunks” stood at the same point in its run. Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse” was in a close race for the #4 spot with David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” “War Horse” took in an estimated $16.4 million (for a $42.9 million total) while “Dragon Tattoo” earned another $16.8 million, which was a 16 percent increase from the weekend before. The first American adaptation of the popular Swedish novel has made a total of $57.1 million. Filmmaker Cameron Crowe’s “We Bought a Zoo” was #5 with $14.3 million for a $41.8 million total. Garry Marshall’s critically reviled ensemble rom-com “New Year’s Eve” doubled its previous weekend, thanks no doubt to the arrival of the holiday for which it’s named. The follow-up to “Valentine’s Day” has made just $46.4 million since its release, however, and 93 percent of film critics panned the flick, according to film review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Looking back at the 2011 box office, the final “Harry Potter” film was #1 overall with its $381 million gross. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” was just behind with $352.3 million. Rounding out the top five were “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1” ($275.4 million), “The Hangover Part II” ($254.4 million) and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” ($241 million). ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’: Why It Didn’t Dominate

Experts explain to MTV News why the best-selling book didn’t translate to a box-office #1. By Eric Ditzian Rooney Mara in “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” trilogy of crime thrillers has sold about 17 million copies in the United States alone. The first novel in the series, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” is the first book ever to sell a million digital copies. The books have become nothing short of cultural touchstones, the collective response of devoted fans to the uninitiated being something along the lines of “You haven’t read ‘Dragon Tattoo’? What’s wrong with you?” That’s the entertainment scene onto which David Fincher’s American adaptation of “Dragon Tattoo” came last week. What’s more, the movie received strong critical reviews , Sony’s marketing campaign was lauded by industry insiders and MTV named it the Best Movie of 2011 . Yet “Dragon Tattoo” wound up with a six-day gross of just $27.8 million — the highest total of any new release but good for just fourth place overall and undoubtedly disappointing given its lofty pedigree. So what happened? “Maybe fans of the Stieg Larsson novel were satisfied by last year’s Swedish film and weren’t feeling David Fincher’s Hollywood version,” writes Deadline editor in chief Nikki Finke, who notes the weak opening is especially surprising given the film was the only rated-R wide-release over the Christmas season and that “adults are flocking to specialty box-office hits like Fox Searchlight’s ‘The Descendants’ and the Weinstein Co’s ‘The Artist.’ ” The release date could also have been a factor, even as Sony positioned “Dragon Tattoo” as the “feel-bad movie of Christmas.” “The dark and violent subject matter coupled with intense competition for the attention of mature adults led to an underwhelming result over the happy and cheery yuletide holiday,” says Gitesh Pandya, editor of Box Office Guru . With no wide releases slated for the upcoming weekend, however, “Dragon Tattoo” could see its box-office haul grow significantly. Sony’s distribution chief, Rory Bruer, told TheWrap that the film “is off to a good start and it’s just going to get better with every day through the rest of the holiday season and well into the new year.” Finke, too, expects the film’s B.O. numbers to pick up this week, and Pandya suggests “a domestic final of $100 million cannot be ruled out this early in the run as moviegoers continue to catch up on films they are interested in.” That’s good news for fans of the series and of Fincher’s film, who have their fingers crossed that the Oscar-nominated director gets the go-ahead to make the final two pictures in Larsson’s series. As Fincher told us recently , he hopes that the first film is received well enough that he’s able to revisit, in journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander, “two fascinating characters who I have really come to care about.” In the end, though, the chance to see Fincher’s adaptations of “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest” might be entirely out of the hands — or, rather, the wallets — of American moviegoers. “Ironically, the biggest factor in this sequelizing or not will come down to how well it does in foreign market — a place where the Swedish version of the film already made nearly $100 million just a couple years ago,” said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. “Do overseas audiences really want to see the Hollywood version after the original is so fresh in their minds and was equally well-received?” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
