Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Antidote’ Video: Guns, Gore, Gangsters

‘Something’s going on there that’s really dark — in a good way,’ SHM tell MTV News of clip for Knife Party collabo. By Akshay Bhansali Swedish House Mafia Photo: Getty Images Swedish House Mafia have left New York after two spectacular displays of big-room house: They raved with 20,000 fans at Madison Square Garden, and the party continued for another 3,000 revelers until 8 a.m. at Roseland Ballroom, with support from Jacques Lu Cont, Carl Kennedy, AN21 and Max Vangeli . But before they head off to their solo New Year’s Eve gigs, Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello and Axwell have one more gift for fans: an eye-popping first-person shooter Axwell joked to MTV News when we caught up with him and Angello last week. Reminiscent of Prodigy’s now-classic “Smack My Bitch Up” video, “Antidote” was shot in New York City’s Meatpacking District at a location designed to mirror a Japanese strip club. In the clip, a team of gangsters are seen ogling topless dancers before they don masks to rob an underworld boss. (SHM never actually appear in the short, which was cut in both clean and explicit versions.) “Great guys,” Angello said of the video’s creators. “[We] gave them free creativity to do whatever they wanted to, and they did. They delivered. They ran with the idea and it’s crazy.” “What I like about that video is that it feels real,” Axwell said. “It’s a part of a movie. Something’s going on there that’s really dark.” “In a good way,” Angello added. What do you think of Swedish House Mafia’s “Antidote” video? Sound off in the comments below! ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics are praising David Fincher’s direction and Rooney Mara’s performance. By Kevin P. Sullivan Rooney Mara in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” Photo: Sony Pictures The year’s most anticipated movie about ritualized serial killing, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” finally hits theaters Tuesday (December 20), and critics have applauded both director for bringing his signature style and ‘s performance. Chris Brown, Big Sean Bring ‘Fun’ To Wale Video Set

‘We’re young, so it’s only right to just do what we wanna do,’ Brown, who’s co-directing the ‘Slight Work’ video, tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Chris Brown and Big Sean Photo: MTV News “Slight Work,” indeed. After dropping a Maybach Music compilation, a mixtape and sophomore album Ambition over the course of the past 12 months, no one can question Wale’s work ethic. It isn’t all about the grind, however. On the Huntington Park, California, set of his “Slight Work” video , Wale, guest Big Sean and director Chris Brown were just having a good time. “Man, this video is just fun,” Brown told MTV News on Thursday. “I mean, we’re young, so it’s only right to just do what we wanna do.” “This is for the fans,” Wale added. The Diplo-produced club track is easily the most energetic song on Ambition, and it seems its video will be just as upbeat. In one scene, Wale and Big Sean — wearing a fur and multiple gold chains — rap to the camera as scantily clad models dance in a graffiti-laced background. “You don’t understand, man, we were just those young players looking at the OG’s like, ‘Damn, that’s what we’re trying to be,’ ” Big Sean said. Brown, who is co-directing with Godfrey Tabarez, seemed most excited about the collaboration. Yes, he was working the camera, but Breezy was thrilled to be kicking it with his friends too. “They done gave us a budget now,” he laughed about how the trio grew from young aspiring artists to professionals with enough money to carry out their vision. “We can just play around and have fun on set.” Are you anticipating the “Slight Work” video? Swedish House Mafia Set To Take Over Madison Square Garden

‘It’s one of those moments you’re never going to forget as long as you live,’ Steve Angello says about MSG one-night stand. By Adam Stewart, with additional reporting by Akshay Bhansali Axwell and Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia Photo: MTV News The boys are back in town — and this time they’ve gone big. In fact, it doesn’t get much bigger. Just two years shy of the anniversary of their New York City debut at M2 nightclub, Swedish House Mafia is revved up and ready to rock Madison Square Garden on Friday (December 16) with their high-energy, heart-pounding sight-and-sound spectacular. Group members Steve Angello and Axwell took time out of their jam-packed schedule on Thursday to sit down with MTV News and share their excitement for the night that the dance music world can’t stop talking about. “It’s just pretty unbelievable,” Axwell gushed. “We were obviously scared when we decided to do it because it’s such a big place, it’s such an expensive place to rent and it’s hard to fill. But so many people bought tickets and it sold out in 10 minutes, and just, Wow! you know? It’s really amazing that we have that sort of appreciation this side of the Atlantic.” “[Madison Square Garden] is great. It’s a beautiful place,” said Angello. “Since we were kids, we’ve always seen the hockey and basketball [games]. It’s one of those places — it’s the Garden. It’s everyone in basketball’s favorite place to play, and it’s just magic — it’s New York!” Their presence at one of the world’s most iconic venues is certainly reflective of the exploding EDM scene here in the States as well as one of the world’s most important music cities. The Swedes have been an integral factor in cultivating the sonic palette of cool culture in America. “New York is one of those places where you’re always shocked when you leave a show here because of the energy and the crowd,” Angello said. “I know how I’m going to feel tomorrow after the show. It’s one of those moments you’re never going to forget as long as you live — one of those key moments in your career” This moment has been so massive in the Big Apple that the trio decided to add a second show, in what’s being dubbed an afterparty, just up the street at the Roseland Ballroom. All of the action is paired with the highly anticipated digital release of their latest single, “Antidote,” a collaboration brought forth by Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen of Pendulum, under their dubstep-infused production moniker, Knife Party. “Steve was in the tour in Australia, [he] met up with Knife Party and started out with the idea there,” Axwell said. “[But] we wanted the track to have some sort of identity, we wanted to have the instrumental and all, but it would be nice with some identity, [so] we started working with a guy named Klas

Daniel Craig Calls ‘Dragon Tattoo’ Very ‘Adult’ Movie

‘Babysitters are going to get, hopefully, a lot of money out of this film,’ Craig says, predicting the mature set will flock to theaters. By Amy Wilkinson Daniel Craig Photo: MTV News Rape, murder, intrigue … the feel-bad movie of Christmas may not leave audiences feeling bright and merry but “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” star Daniel Craig suspects the dark drama will inspire smiles among at least one group. “Look, I’m a David Fincher fan, so it was an easy choice to make when accepting this film,” Craig told MTV News at the film’s New York City premiere. “It’s a great story. It’s an adult movie. The babysitters are going to get, hopefully, a lot of money out of this film. That’s why I wanted to get involved.” The film, based on the novel by late Swedish author Stieg Larsson, follows journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) as he tries to solve the 30-year-old murder of teen Harriet Vanger, with the help of asocial hacker punk Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Mara has been earning raves for her performance as the damaged heroine and even netted a Golden Globe nomination on Thursday. Craig said he had no doubts as to the newcomer’s abilities. “We all knew she was good. She’s just committed as an actress, and she made all of the right choices with David’s help and everyone else’s help,” he said. “She’s just blossomed as somebody. As I said, we knew from the beginning that she was good enough — it was everyone else who had the problem.” Best known for her work in Fincher’s “The Social Network,” Mara returned the compliment, expressing gratitude for Craig’s help and guidance on set. “Daniel is an incredible actor, and I don’t think we’ve seen him in a role like this before, and he’s brilliant,” she said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better person to sort of have my coming out. He was very patient and generous with me.” “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” opens December 20, a day earlier than its initial release date. Best EDM Artists Of 2011

MTV counts down the top 10 electronic dance music artists of the year. By Akshay Bhansali and Adam Stewart deadmau5 Photo: Getty Images Maybe you were at the grocery store when you found yourself singing along to Afrojack’s “Take Over Control” for the hundredth time. Or maybe it was when Martin Solveig’s “Hello” was suddenly on repeat on your iPod. Whatever your moment was, it’s fair to say the American appetite for electronic dance music surged in 2011, bringing “the rave” to radio and festivals, touching every U.S. city (big and small). Even Grammy voters took notice this year, nominating Skrillex for Best New Artist and in four other categories. Afrojack, David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Benny Benassi put up mainstream, chart-topping bangers. Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival and Miami’s Ultra Music Festival saw record attendance, and dance music’s biggest stars headlined a stage at every major mainstream festival: Lollapalooza, Coachella, SXSW, Austin City Limits. We’ve been covering the movement, but this year we tapped some of our EDM pros to commemorate a seminal year for the genre. MTV News’ Akshay Bhansali and Adam Stewart, MTV Coordinator of Music & Talent Rawley Bornstein and MTV World Music Director Micah McKinney sat down for a roundtable discussion — moderated by MTV News’ Sway Calloway — about the biggest players this year and crowned our top 10. Below, we reveal #10 through #3. Stick with MTV as we reveal our final two at 4:59 p.m. ET on Monday (December 12). Who will be named the Best EDM Artist of 2011? 10. Martin Solveig When Irv Gotti stopped by MTV News’ “RapFix Live” in October, he joked, “We’re just one record away from Kanye or Jay [being like]: [ sings hook to Solveig’s ‘Hello’ ] ‘I just came to say hello — Hov!’ ” Gotti was kidding, but it’s true. Rap dudes beware: Songs like “Hello” and guys like Martin have seen such widespread success that the hip-hop industry, which has long enjoyed club and radio dominance, is shook. In addition to being a technically superior producer and DJ, Solveig has also proven to the world that he has a sense of humor. His “Smash” video series — including “Hello,” “Initial S.H.E,” “Ready 2 Go” and “Big in Japan” — are some of the funniest and most well-produced clips of any genre. Kudos to Martin and his “manager” Lafaille for making us laugh and dance in 2011. 9. Ti

Katy Perry Raves About ‘SNL’ Musical Guest Robyn

Perry tells MTV News the Swedish star is ‘the epitome of effortless cool.’ By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry on the set of “Saturday Night Live” Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Katy Perry knows a thing or two about being the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” . But this week, she steps up into the role of hostess , and she’s welcoming her former California Dreams tourmate and Swedish pop powerhouse Robyn as the show’s musical guest. When MTV News caught up with the pop stars during rehearsals Thursday, they opened up about reuniting for the late-night show. “It was a pleasure to do rehearsals here today in the ‘SNL’ studio,” Robyn told us. “You’re gonna see what you always see: me, like, dancing and giving it my all.” While Perry and Robyn, an “SNL” first-timer, hung out a bit during a promo shoot — co-starring the show’s city correspondent, Stefon (played by Bill Hader) — she said she hadn’t yet gotten some words of wisdom from the California Gurl. But when we asked Perry if she had any advice for her pal, she didn’t think she had much to offer. “I don’t need to give her advice,” she said. “She needs to give me advice. She’s cool, dude. She makes everyone cooler. … She’s just, like, the epitome of effortless cool, like you look at her wardrobe and you think, ‘I don’t think I could wear that,’ but she wears it and she just owns it.” There’s one look you may see Perry sporting on the show that was inspired by the singer. “She’s always wearing platform shoes, whether it’s, like, creepers or Prada shoes. And she was wearing them way back when, in the beginning of the tour,” she said. “And now Prada’s doing them; everyone’s wearing them. Rihanna’s wearing them. I’m wearing them after all of the convincing, so she’s kind of the tastemaker. It’s gonna be a great show because of that.” What songs are you hoping Robyn performs Saturday night? Snooki Sneaks Into Our Top 10 TV Characters Of 2011

‘Parks and Recreation’ antihero Ron Swanson lands at #1, with ‘Breaking Bad’ meth cook Walter and the ‘Jersey Shore’ guidette behind him. By MTV News staff Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi in “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV It’s all come down to this: Only 10 remain in our countdown of the Top 50 TV Characters of 2011, and the results might surprise you. It goes without saying that one of our favorite “Jersey Shore” stars found her way toward the top of our list, but it’s a certain “Parks and Rec” administrator who took home all the bacon (and all the eggs while he was at it). Combine those characters with two nods for “Breaking Bad,” an Emmy-winning “Game of Thrones” actor and one comedian who risked his very life to bring some of the biggest laughs the small screen has ever enjoyed, and you’ll find yourself looking at our Top 10 TV Characters of 2011. Stay tuned to MTV News for interviews with several of our top honorees. See our Top 50 TV Characters of 2011, 50 to 41, including a masked bachelor and dashing novelist/crime-fighter. 10. Gus Fring, “Breaking Bad” I’ve never smoked meth, but my guess is the effects are similar to the feeling shooting through my body when the crank kingpin — SPOILER ALERT! — exited the smoky scene of a suicide bombing, straightened his tie and revealed that in place of his face was a steaming mass of Fring-like goo. He was in death as he was in life: debonair, a spiller of blood and totally goddamn frightening. Contemplating a “Breaking Bad” without Gus makes us want to reach for the pipe. -Eric Ditzian 9. Constance Langdon, “American Horror Story” Both television and the horror genre are no strangers to terrible mothers, but Jessica Lange’s deliciously dark Constance on “American Horror Story” truly takes the cake. How many moms have you known to allow their children to die in a house that keeps the dead’s spirits locked in our mortal realm for all eternity? The two-time Oscar winner marks her first regular television gig with “AHS,” and it’s a phenomenal debut. As awful as Constance can be, as mean and nasty as she gets, she’s impossible to look away from. And, so help us, you actually feel bad for this woman and her cursed womb. Only an actress of Lange’s caliber could make the ruthless Constance into someone you can root for despite yourself — and with only one season under her belt, we can only imagine the “Horror” Lange will bring in the future. -Josh Wigler 8. Fat Mac, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” Remember Robert De Niro’s turn in “Raging Bull,” when he gained 60 pounds to play Jake La Motta? Of course you don’t; there weren’t any sparkling vampires in “Raging Bull.” Long story short, De Niro packed on the lb’s and subsequently won every award on the planet. Rob McElhenney, on the other hand, added a solid 50 pounds of fat to play Mac on the current season of “Sunny,” and he’ll be lucky to be nominated for a Blockbuster Entertainment Award. So let’s honor him here — not only for ruining his body for the sake of comedy, but for spoiling one of TV’s oldest tropes: As shows go on, characters don’t age, they get better looking. On the seventh season of “Sunny,” Mac looks worse than ever, yet his best moments — carrying around a trash bag filled with chimichangas, insisting he’s just “cultivating mass” — steal the show. Whether it’s method acting or some sociological experiment, you’ve got to appreciate McElhenney’s willingness to bust boundaries — and waistbands. -James Montgomery See our Top 50 TV Characters of 2011, 40 to 31, including a “hootie hoo!”-hollering chef and funnyman talk-show host. 7. Milania Giudice, “Real Housewives of New Jersey “You have such muscular legs when you do gymnastics, sometimes you gotta rest your toes,” Gia sang to little sister Milania — both daughters of “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Teresa Giudice — on her fifth birthday. The song is irrelevant to all the adorable little Milania represents, but I just love that line. Milania remained blissfully unaware of the drama her mother and castmates stirred up on “RHONJ” and instead delivered such irreverent pearls as “give me pizza, you old troll” to her father and climbed onto couches, into supermarket freezer displays and, most importantly, into our hearts. -Rya Backer 6. Phil Dunphy, “Modern Family” In the sea of characters on “Modern Family,” the biggest one of all just might be Phil Dunphy, played by Emmy winner Ty Burrell . Prime time’s most well-meaning husband, dad and son-in-law, Phil lives his life with his own joie de vivre, blind to the fact that sometimes (when he lets his feet get off the ground) he borders on the ridiculous. He’s over-the-top and underappreciated, but at the end of the day, it’s his love for life, shenanigans and family that keeps audiences, and the Dunphy clan, coming back for more. -Jocelyn Vena 5. Eric Northman, “True Blood” There are plenty of badass bloodsuckers littering vampire canon, so what makes Eric Northman (played by Alexander Skarsg

Did the Muppets Lift a Famous Number from a Swedish Skin Flick? [VIDEO]

All signs point to yes. If you grew up watching the Muppet Show or Sesame Street , there are sure to be some conflicting sensations in your shorts when you see this clip from the 1968 exploitation opus Svezia, inferno e paradiso (aka Sweden: Heaven and Hell ). Directed by spaghetti-porn pioneer Luigi Scattini , Sweden: Heaven and Hell promises to take viewers into the deepest depths of Scandinavian depravity, like lesbian nightclubs, swinger’s parties, and a then-brand new kind of place: the porn set…all in the name of education, natch. In this sequence we see gorgeous Swedish blondes relaxing in a sauna. Unfortunately, it cuts away before the towels come off, but if you’ve seen the classic Muppet sketch with Dr. Howey and the Snowths , the tune should ring a bell: Want more Scandinavian skin?
