2012 Grammy Nominations: Kanye West Tops The List

Carter Kanye West (file) Photo: Getty Images For the second year in a row, a hip-hop artist is leading the pack in Grammy nominations. Although his name was only called for one category during Wednesday’s (November 30) “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!,” Kanye West walked away with a leading seven nods, following the hip-hop trend set by last year’s leading nominee, Eminem . He’s nominated for his Watch the Throne joint album with Jay-Z and also picked up a few nominations — including Song of the Year — for his powerhouse collaborative track “All of the Lights,” which features Rihanna, Fergie and Kid Cudi. He’s even nominated against himself, with Watch the Throne and his own My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy nabbing Rap Album of the Year nods. West was followed by this year’s critical darling, Adele , who is tied with the Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars for six nods each. Lil Wayne and dance-music breakout Skrillex each garnered five nods. While the Grammys have a reputation for catering to an older demographic (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss for 2009 Album of the Year, anyone?), this year’s nominees are notably young, with 34-year-old West looking downright geriatric next to fellow nominees Adele (23), Rihanna (23), Lady Gaga (25) and Bruno Mars (26). Nick Jonas Says Gabrielle Giguere Has ‘A Clear Vision’

Jonas produced the song ‘My Time’ for the 14-year-old Quaker Chewy Superstar Search winner. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Back in June, Nick Jonas told MTV News he was looking for the next Willow Smith or Greyson Chance when he teamed up with Quaker Chewy Superstar Search . Well, now he’s found that person in 14-year-old Gabrielle Giguere. “It was an exciting process, picking the winner,” he told MTV News. “Basically, we narrowed it down to 35 of the best videos, and I chose my favorites, and then we made it a top five. And from there, America voted, and Gabrielle was our winner. And I’m so pleased, and getting in the studio with her was so amazing and crafting a song to her voice was a great experience.” Jonas, who has previously written tracks for Charice and Demi Lovato, said working with the Florida native proved to be quite a fruitful experience, resulting in the catchy, electronic pop tune “My Time.” Giguere not only walked away with the Jonas-produced track, but also an online music video, a contract with Jonas Group Management and $5,000 in cash. “It’s just been a really great time so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing where things go for her,” he said. “It was amazing getting in the studio with her. I think she had a clear vision of what she wanted to sound like, and she really wanted to be the best it can be.” So what does Nick think of all their hard work? “In my experience, I try and work specifically with the vocalist and try and figure out how they work and get the best result,” he said. “We had the time to do that, and I feel like we came up with a really great-sounding song.” Have you checked out Gabrielle’s song? ‘X Factor’ Says Goodbye To Stereo Hogzz

For the second straight week, Paula Abdul’s groups end up in the bottom two, with Lakoda Rayne joining the Hogzz. On Thursday’s (November 10) results episode of “The X Factor,” Abdul’s two remaining groups in the competition — Stereo Hogzz and Lakoda Rayne — ended up as the bottom two vote-getters following Wednesday’s performance episode. Both groups were forced to sing for their lives in front of the panel of judges, and after a dramatic 3-1 vote — where an emotional Abdul nearly gave up her right to vote — Stereo Hogzz were shown the door. It was the second week in a row that two of Abdul’s groups occupied the bottom two and faced elimination. Ms. “Forever Your Girl” originally refused to participate in the final vote, pleading, “I’m not gonna do this. I’m too close to both acts, and I love them both,” causing a frustrated Cowell to none-too-subtly rub his eye with his middle finger. Eventually, Abdul cast her vote for Lakoda Rayne to go, leaving the final vote in the hands of Cowell, who sent the Hogzz packing. The Houston fivesome took their elimination in stride, saying they were blessed for the chance to be on the show. Abdul returned the compliment: “I’m blessed to have worked with such amazing talent,” she said. “These guys are the real deal and gentlemen to work with.” For their final save performance, Stereo Hogzz — who were also in the bottom two last week — sang Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone,” while Lakoda Rayne turned in a slightly twangy version of the Chris Brown/ Jordin Sparks duet “No Air.” The night prior, Rayne earned high marks for their version of Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You,” while Simon Cowell criticized the Hogzz following their gender-flipped version of Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” for being too “cabaret” and for not doing the sort of song they would make in the studio. Earlier in the show, host Steve Jones asked Abdul what it was like to again have two of her groups staring down death’s door. “It is a nightmare situation. I can’t say any other words,” Abdul said. But in typical sunshiny fashion, she had words of encouragement for her students: “They’re magical, and they’re going to go on to sell records no matter what.” The upside for Abdul? Since she only has one group left, next week she can’t be the only judge with contestants in the bottom two. The episode also saw performances from Willow Smith , who debuted her new single “Fireball,” and Jessie J , who showcased her latest single “Domino.” At the top of the show, the top 11 contestants performed Swedish House Mafia’s “Save the World (Tonight).” What did you think of Thursday’s “X Factor” results episode? Rihanna Cancels Swedish Show Due to Exhaustion

After canceling a show in Malmo, Sweden , on Monday due to a bout with flu-like symptoms, the singer was forced to pull out from another show Wednesday night, when again, she felt under the weather. A spokesperson for tour promoter Live Nation told the Associated Press that RiRi felt ill before her concert in Stockholm on Wednesday night, and after consulting with a doctor, decided to cancel the show an hour before she was scheduled to take the stage. Live Nation’s Kristofer Akesson said Rihanna “is exhausted and doesn’t feel well,” but did not elaborate on what ails her. Promoters have said they plan to reschedule the gigs, but have not said when they will take place. She was able to perform at the first to two scheduled shows in Stockholm on Tuesday night. On Monday, Rihanna tweeted a photo of herself in a Swedish hospital bed with an IV in her arm along with an apologetic note that read, “Sorry Malmo!!! #LOUDtour.” She later released a statement, explaining, “I am sorry to everyone who was coming out to my show in Malmo. I was so excited to perform for you all. It would have been a great time … so much better than being sick with the flu, ugh! I’m really disappointed I couldn’t be there.” Rihanna is on the European leg of her worldwide Loud Tour , which began in the States in the summer. The tour — which has included openers J.Cole , B.o.B, Cee Lo Green and Calvin Harris — is expected to continue until the end of the year. The singer recently set another career mark when “We Found Love” became her 11th #1 hit, breaking the three-way record she shared with Stevie Wonder and Janet Jackson for 10 career #1 singles. According to Billboard, she also set a record by racking up 20 Hot 100 top-10 singles faster than any other solo artist in the chart’s history, reaching that pinnacle in six years and four months, which is five months faster than Madonna. Nude Star Amanda Seyfried Now in Talks for Lovelace Role

We can’t imagine why so many actresses have been attached to the role of Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic Lovelace – after all, it’s not every day you get offered the role of (literally) the biggest cocksucker in history. Nevertheless, it’s been a regular revolving door over at the offices of Lovelace, LLC. First Kate Hudson dropped out to have a baby, and then Olivia Wilde dropped out, apparently for no particular reason, after it was widely reported she would be playing the role. (Meanwhile, Swedish star Malin Akerman remains attached to a rival project, Inferno: The Linda Lovelace Story ). Now Olivia’s nude Alpha Dog (2006) co-star Amanda Seyfried has begun negotiations to play the skinfamous porn star, which is slappy news for skin fans. Amanda may be young, but she’s already proven herself more than willing to strip down on screen, even winning an Anatomy Award for Best Lesbian Scene for her cougar/kitten encounter with Julianne Moore in Chloe (2009). We had star presenters, surprise award recipients and a series of killer live performances, headlined by Swedish sparkplug Robyn . MTV News caught up with the “Dancing on My Own” singer immediately following her showstopping set in the heart of the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival to see what she thought of the crowd. “I would sum it up like this,” she said, pointing to a broken blood vessel in her right eye. “That’s how much I’m doing this. I’m doing it all the way! [The show] was not like doing a TV show; it was a concert, in parts. It was weird going on and off, but it was really fun.” “She was on fire — and I know fire,” one reveler dressed as the devil told us, holding up his pitchfork. “Everyone in West Hollywood loves Robyn,” added another partyer, dressed as “Sleeping Beauty” villain Maleficent. “I’m pretty sure half these people here came just to see her.” “I had no idea she was going to be here; it was such a surprise,” gushed a group of lucky concert attendees. “We had so much fun!” “It’s Halloween and people are dressed up, so yeah, it’s fun,” Robyn said of her costumed crowd. “Her energy is so intense, it’s so awesome. She got the crowd so pumped and it’s amazing out here,” added the man dressed as the devil. “It doesn’t get any better than having Robyn play down the street from your own house,” said one lucky West Hollywood resident. “Her music just makes us want to dance. My name is Abby and I live in Brisbane, Australia and my Bieber experience was the most hilarious and most memorable time. It was Justin’s first ever concert in Australia and I was lucky enough to meet him twice; once in 2010 and once in 2011 on the exact same day. My friend Johanna who is a part of @jbsource rang me at 7am on the day of the concert. Naturally I was sleeping and didn’t answer it in time so I texted her asking what was wrong. I got a reply of her hysterically saying, “KENNY DMED ME ON TWITTER AND IS GIVING ME 4 MEET AND GREETS”. Johanna, our friend Geena and I had planned to go to the concert together so Johanna being the greatest and most generous friend alive gave us one each and another to our other friend @courtneyyhudson. We were 2nd last in line and it came our turn and we walked into the room. Justin said hey to us all. I walked in 2nd last and Justin had already put his arms around the girls to take a picture. I really wanted a hug so I politely asked Justin if I could have one. He said, “Of course you can”, so he gave me a hug. Seeing as I had already met him once, Geena stood next to him to take the photo and we had all discussed beforehand that we wanted Kenny to be in our photo. “KENNY, KENNY GET IN OUR PHOTO” so he jumps in and we took the picture when Johanna yells out, “WAIT WAIT NO OMG I WASN’T READY, PLEASE TAKE ANOTHER ONE”. Justin and Kenny were like okay take another one, meanwhile I had already taken my hands from around everyone and didn’t  realize  we were taking another photo, so I had to quickly get my hands back around Geena and Kenny and awkwardly enough my hand just had to sit on Kenny’s let’s just say “lower back”. I tried my hardest not to look awkward or laugh but after we took the photo I just blurted out, “How awkward my hand was just on Kenny’s butt”. Kenny laughed and Justin looked at me smiling and just started laughing. I didn’t know if I had offended anyone by saying it but everyone just laughed. Then Kenny told Justin that we were from @jbsource (Even though it was just Johanna)  At the time Justin was wearing a beanie and I really wanted to see his new haircut so I asked, “Why are you covering up your new hair with a beanie?” and responded with, “Um, I just got off a 7 hour flight”. I said, “Well I’m sure it looks nice regardless” and he just smiled and said thank you. Johanna asked him if he could tweet Jbsource because he hasn’t tweeted them in ages and she made him pinky promise that he will, which he did. We all said bye and Justin and Kenny said bye and we thanked them. Overall it was an amazing experience and his concert was AMAZING even though he had a sore back he performed. I will never forget what Kenny did for us and I will never be able to repay Johanna. This is my first Bieber experience. Last friday afternoon, Justin posted on his Twitter that he was going to be in Atlanta. I live in Atlanta so I started freaking out! I found out he was going to be playing in a basketball game for charity about 40 minutes from where I live.  I clicked on the link thinking tickets were going to be like $100 or something. When I saw the tickets were only $10, I flipped! At first I thought it was a scam but I mean Ludacris AND Justin posted it so I was sure it wasn’t a scam. I ran downstairs screaming and told my mom everything! She said go get my laptop and she got me and her tickets! I immediately messaged my friend Courtney on Facebook and she was like NO WAY! She asked her mom and her mom got her a ticket as well. We went after church on Sunday to the game! We were so excited! We sang Justin Bieber songs the whole way there! When we got there, it was SUPER crowded! We saw Justin’s black cars so we were immediately freaking out! We got into the arena and were disappointed because we had to sit on the very very top row. We brought our signs (we were very lucky to have taken them in cause some got theirs taken away) Our sign said, “TEAM BIEBER” and “BIEBER FEVER” on the back. We also had a sparkly white one that said, “COME MEET US JUSTIN” and on the back “TEAM BIEBER”. We met some other Bieber fans and had a great time! We went down a little bit so we were only 30ft from Justin! We were screaming our lungs out! Justin waved at his fans twice! We screamed during a quite moment and he looked over at our signs and WAVED! We were not sure it was at us, but then we were FOR SURE when we went back to our seats and s ome girls said, “Did you see him wave at you” We were like OH SNAP! Anyways it was a great game! The score was 134- 132! WE WON! Justin went CRAZY! He was giving hugs to all his team members and took a picture with the $10,000 check they were giving to Ludacris’ charity. Then he left immediately. He didn’t come up to meet any of his fans (probably because there wasn’t a lot of security). SCOOTER BRAUN played a little in the game and we saw KENNY HAMILTON! We were freaking out! After the game we stayed in the arena thinking he would come back out but we just left because it was too crowded. We went outside and saw some of the basketball players leave and some girl told us he had already left and that there were some girls that chased his car. We ate the Swedish fish we were going to give him and left. We wished we could have met him but we were fine with just seeing him. Justin if you saw our signs please DM me!
