Alicia Keys covers Glamour magazine’s October 2011 issue alongside Jennifer Aniston and Demi Moore. The three ladies teamed up to help launch Five , a series of short films about women and breast cancer that will be stitched together in a two-hour block on Lifetime in October. Each of the cover girls directed a film. Alicia directed Lili , a film about a fiercely independent 35-year-old whose breast cancer forces her to work through her relationship with her mother. How did you get involved with Five ? Kristin [Hahn] and Jen called me up; after I read the scripts, I felt like this was something important, and I wanted to be a part of it. I chose Lili because she’s close to my age and I understood the family dynamic. I had an immediate idea of what I could bring to it. People very close to me in my family have had [breast cancer], and it’s scary and it’s hard. Which one of your songs would you sit and listen to on the radio: “Fallin’,” “Empire State of Mind,” “If I Ain’t Got You” or “Unbreakable”? I mean, I don’t want to sound crazy, but I’d listen to all of them all the way through. I love them. I love those songs! Your husband, Swizz Beatz, has said that your relationship is “a blessing.” Do you feel that way too? Yes. It’s beautiful because rarely, I think, do you find a relationship where you can experience things equally. In fact, I think that’s my favorite word and the most important word when it comes to relationships: equality. And that’s what we’ve been able to find. We encourage each other equally. We’re excited for each other. Do you remember the moment when you fell in love? I do remember the exact moment. If I told you, I would have to kill you, but it was something that he planned, and he planned it so beautifully and thoughtfully that in that moment I remember thinking to myself, Oh my God, I’m so in love with him. What makes you giddy? I bet I can guess, and he’s just about a year old…. Yeah, my son, Egypt, makes me super giddy, especially when he laughs. His laugh makes me laugh like a maniac! After hitting the stage himself last year, producer/rapper looks forward to watching Lil Wayne, Pitbull performances. The sought-after producer/rapper hit the VMA stage last year to join Drake and Mary J. Blige for a memorable performance of “Fancy,” and on Sunday, he’s amped to watch Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Pitbull do their thing. Beatz spoke to MTV News just hours before taking the stage at the Taco Bell Feed the Beat MTV2 VMA concert on Friday (August 26) at the Music Box in Los Angeles on a bill featuring Chiddy Bang and Wallpaper, and he offered some advice to Weezy and Pitbull about making VMA headlines. “The big stage is a different stage. I think it’s an opportunity to bring out even more of the creative,” he said of the need to bring a different level of game for the VMA broadcast. “Because when you’re on that big stage, you know the whole world is watching you, and people can really see your true talent and your craftsmanship.” He also recalled looking out on the crowd of his peers last year and remembering that it was all just a haze. “Honestly, when I’m onstage, I can’t really see the crowd,” he said. “The lights and everything shining in your face, it’s like a blur and you’re in your zone … [but] you can feel the crowd and your motivation is to stay focused and know that that tape is rolling and you better not mess up now, because it’s live.” After VMA performer Chris Brown jumped onstage during one of Swizzy’s recent Las Vegas events to unveil the new Beatz tune “Dance Like a White Girl,” the producer said the reaction was “pandemonium.” That’s why he’s excited about Brown’s VMA slot, warning, “Everybody get ready. Y’all better get ready.” Brown’s choreographers, Rich and Tone , seconded that emotion, telling MTV News that we will see Chris in “1,000 percent mode.” Even with his table-hopping performance still on people’s minds, the pair said Sunday night could be on a whole other level. “We’ve been working with Chris for many years; I’ve never seen him this way on this performance ever,” Tone said. “He’s pulling out all his tricks on this one. On Friday, Swizz Beatz , Chiddy Bang and Wallpaper will perform at the Taco Bell Presents the MTV2 VMA Concert, with Jessie J — our 2011 VMA House Artist — hosting the event. If you aren’t lucky enough to be in attendance at the Los Angeles show, you can still check out footage from the event. MTV2’s “Sucker Free” will be filming on site with guests Swizz Beatz and Chiddy Bang, and the episode is set to air Sunday at 11 a.m., with a special encore airing at 11 p.m. ET, right after the VMAs.
