Swizz Beatz Is Making ‘Musical Moments’ For Nicki Minaj’s Debut

‘The Swizzy and Nicki collaboration, there’s kinda no words for it,’ he tells MTV News. By Shaheem Reid Swizz Beatz Photo: MTV News NEW ORLEANS — Nicki Minaj is the kind of artist Swizz Beatz loves to work with. The Young Money leading lady is open to all ideas, but, as Swizz said, she also knows the direction she wants to go in. “The Swizzy and Nicki collaboration, there’s kinda no words for it,” he said over the weekend at the Essence Music Festival about working on Minaj’s debut LP . “Another thing about her that I love and respect, she’s a student. She’s a respectable student. She’s willing to learn and take it to the next level. So that means, once again, my launch pad in working with her is clear. There’s no blockage in what we can do on the creative tip. It’s a blank canvas. We respect each other. I respect her, she respects me, and she trusts my judgment. We have a lot of small conversations that end up [turning] into big musical moments. When you hear Nicki on my track, you’re gonna see that ‘Wow, she just went from here to there.’ I’m happy to be a part of that.” We all know Swizz likes to create the choruses for many of the songs he produces, such as Jay-Z’s “On to the Next One” and T.I.’s “Swing Ya Rags,” but when it came to the Young Money queen’s hooks, he deferred to Minaj. “As far as Nicki, she’s an amazing writer,” Swizz said. “She wrote her own choruses, and she’s doing some amazing things on the choruses. The third song, the last song [we recorded together], is the only song I did the chorus on, and she might even switch that. … I’m not really trying to be on every chorus like that no more. They’re fun. There’s some selective choruses I just love to be on. Being on [Drake’s] ‘Fancy’ was a different tone for me. It’s not like [Busta Rhymes’] ‘Stop the Party,’ which I was I kinda cutting back from, but I liked the way it feels. I need that authentic club Swizz out there. But a lot of my new movements, I’m kinda laid back, like ‘Fancy.’ I’m just on a whole different swag and unexpected sounds.” Besides Nicki, Swizz has more production for Busta, Trey Songz and T.I. coming soon. Alicia Keys And Swizz Beatz: A Timeline Of Their Romance

Pair have been dating for at least a couple of years. By Jayson Rodriguez Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats announced late Thursday evening (May 27) that they’re engaged, and that the Grammy-winning singer is expecting the couple’s first child together. The news might have been a surprise to some: Keys is an R&B/ pop superstar who has performed at President Barack Obama’s inauguration , while Swizz (real name: Kasseem Dean) is a Ruff Ryders alumnus and a veteran hip-hop producer who’s laced Jay-Z and DMX with some of their grittiest tracks. But the musical couple have been dating for a couple of years, at least since 2008, when rumors of their union began to swirl — and recently whispers about the two ratcheted up when photos of Keys with what appeared to be a baby bump appeared online. Here’s a timeline of the couple’s relationship: > > In 2008, music-industry insiders began buzzing about a pairing between Swizz — then married to R&B chanteuse Mashonda — and Keys, but the speculation turned public when gossip blog TheYBF.com published a post detailing their union, citing a source close to the singer. > > Later in 2008, Alicia Keys threw a surprise birthday party for the art-collecting producer (who by then was separated from his wife) at New York’s Guggenheim Museum. Although they wouldn’t appear in public together until the following year, the shindig solidified that the two were an item. > > In 2009, Swizz Beatz all but confirmed his relationship with Keys through a remix verse he added to Drake’s hit, “Best I Ever Had,” rapping, “She gave me a party at the Guggenheim … What’s next? The ring? The baby? She really loves me.” > > Throughout the year, Keys and Swizz (engaged in a messy divorce from Mashonda , including public spat on Twitter) were spotted together at a bevy of events, including his pre-Grammy Awards event, Game 3 of World Series (where she performed alongside Jay-Z ), and a swank Whitney Houston album preview event; the musical pair worked together to produce the Houston single “Million Dollar Bill.” > > This year, the duo have been frequently photographed together, both domestically and abroad; flicks of Keys performing across the Atlantic caused a stir online as the singer’s loose fitting clothing led many to believe she was hiding a baby bump. > > On Thursday, a spokesperson for the couple confirmed that they were engaged and are expecting their first child together. The baby will be her first and his third; producer has two other children from previous relationships. What do you think about Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys relationship? Let us know in the comments! T.I. Explains Inspiration Behind F— A Mixtape Title

Tip tells Mixtape Daily that the controversial name is ‘in no way a direct shot to a DJ.’ By Shaheem Reid T.I. Photo: Atlantic The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive T.I. said he isn’t dissing mixtape DJs or making a disparaging statement about the mixtape circuit by naming his new street project F— a Mixtape. Rather, the King of the South said, he’s actually going up against people who tried to discourage him from making a mixtape at this point in his multiplatinum, Grammy-winning career. “F— a mixtape” was a common response T.I. got when he started telling people that he was, in fact, going to drop a mixtape before he put out his King Uncaged LP, due in August. Some felt Tip should just focus on the album, while others thought he should do a film. Nah. Tip wanted to give back to the streets. “There’s so many songs I have recorded [for King Uncaged ],” he told Mixtape Daily earlier this week in NYC. “I already have 60, 70 songs. A lot of these songs are period pieces that speak volumes to what’s going on right now. If I hold onto them next year or the year after, they’ll be dated, because my life will be in another direction. If I’m not gonna put it on the album — and they all can’t make the album — then they might as well have another platform to present it to the world. Me, myself, personally, I feel that although I haven’t done mixtapes, it’s not ’cause I can’t. It’s ’cause I have so many other pressing issues that are on my plate, I have chose to work on that. ” F— a Mixtape, that’s in no way a direct shot to a DJ. ‘Cause for other people, [a mixtape] works wonders. It do what it’s supposed to do,” he added. “For me, I do what I need to do. That’s a common knowledge around the industry. I got enough music to go around. I can drop a song a day three or five years straight and still be cool. But F— a Mixtape, it got the response it was supposed to get. It got people thinking, it got people talking, and it generated a demand.” F— a Mixtape is co-hosted by DJ Drama and DJ MLK and features guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Mike Bigga, Young Jeezy, MacBoney and Tip’s cousin Rich Kid Rashad. Jamie Foxx appears on the tape’s intro, and Lil Duval and Kevin Hart do skits and interludes. Meanwhile, Swizz Beatz, Lil C, Smash Factory and DJ Toomp are among the producers. F— a Mixtape drops Thursday night (May 27) via LiveMixtapes.com . F— a Mixtape ‘s track list, according to DJ Drama: 1. “Intro” (Jamie Foxx) 2. “Welcome Back to the Trap” (produced by Smash Factory) 3. “Spazz Out” (produced by Swizz Beatz) 4. “Whatcha Saying Tip” (produced by Chuck Diesel) 5. “Yeah” (featuring Lil Wayne and produced by Lil C) 6. “Yeah Ya Know” (produced by DJ Toomp and Lil C) 7. “Once Upon a Time” 8. “Here We Go Again” (produced by Timbaland) 9. “Get Yo Girl (featuring Rich Kid Rashad and produced by Jim Jonsin) 10. “Like So” (produced by Lil C) 11. “Gettin’ Paid” (produced by Track Slayers) 12. “F— a Mixtape N—a!!!” (Lil Duval) 13. “Really Livin’ Like That” (produced by DJ Toomp) 14. “Whether You Like It or Not” (produced by Amadeus) 15. “Shooting Range” (Jamie Foxx) 16. “No Competition” (featuring Young Jeezy and produced by Black Mob) 17. “Bi— Who” (featuring MacBoney and produced by Lil C) 18. “Ready Set Go” (featuring Mike Bigga and produced by No I.D.) 19. “F— a Mixtape” (Kevin Hart) 20. “Outro” 21. “Celebration” (produced by J-Rock) Bonus track: “Got Your Back” (featuring Keri Hilson and produced by DJ Toomp) For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . Swizz Beatz Wants To ‘Get Really Involved’ In Arts Education

‘I just feel that it’s so important to really be a part of something that’s so amazing and helpful,’ the producer says. By Shaheem Reid Swizz Beatz Talks With Students Photo: MTV News Swizz Beatz met with some of his younger fans Thursday (May 13) in his hometown of the Bronx, New York. The super-producer is not just giving his time and energy to help mold youthful minds, but he’s teaching them some of his skills and donating his money. Swizz has adopted the Bronx Charter School for the Arts, which incorporates arts education with social skills and other academics for its elementary-age students. “I been doing things in that world [of art], but I wanted to take it up another notch and get really involved,” Swizz said. “A lot of people can go to charities and donate certain things and go back to their life — that doesn’t mean the problem is over or the demand of need for a youth is over. I just feel that it’s so important to really be a part of something that’s so amazing and helpful full-time.” Swizz says hopes that when influential and successful individuals get involved in charities they sincerely care about the work. “[I hope they mean it], as opposed to, ‘I’mma go to this charity so I could feel better’ — that’s how people look at it. ‘It’s a good look if I do this.’ But I think it’s a good look if you do it for real and maintain for real. I’m from the South Bronx and the school is not too far from Jackson Avenue, where I used to live — St. Mary’s projects. It’s just super amazing to see kids that come from the ‘hood with so much positive energy in this negative world. “It’s always something amazing going on,” he added about the school. “Yesterday I was there and they got this play called ‘Seussical.’ It’s like a Broadway play for real. They got their stuff together. They got an art auction. I’m gonna get all the celebrities and people I know to make adopting charter schools the thing to do, especially for art. Those are the programs being taken away and those are the programs that help our kids. We can’t take that away. That’s the thing right there that keeps the kids there motivated with hope. When you’ re talking arts and music and different things like [that], which is still a learning [tool] from these things — no disrespect to any other subject. They’re able to teach the kids all the fundamental things in the world through art and music.” Swizz said he’s working out a deal now where he can donate some of the proceeds of his next album to the Bronx Charter School for the Arts as well as other children in need of arts education. There’s no release date, but Swizz — who’s featured in the new video for Diddy’s “Hello, Good Morning” — has been staying busy in the lab working on tracks for Diddy, Rick Ross and Busta Rhymes and has also submitted records for Dr. Dre’s Detox LP.
