Big K.R.I.T. Put His Real Life On 4Eva N a Day

Latest mixtape is ‘a day in the life of’ Big K.R.I.T., from ‘8:04 AM’ to ‘5:04 AM.’ By Rob Markman Big K.R.I.T. Photo: MTV News Main Pick Headliner : Big K.R.I.T. Representing : Meridian, Mississippi Mixtape : 4Eva N a Day Real Spit : Ever wonder what goes on during the course of your favorite rapper’s day? On his latest mixtape, 4Eva N a Day, Big K.R.I.T. gives fans an intimate look into his life. From the moment he wakes up on the first track, appropriately titled “8:04 AM” to the tape’s second to last track “5:04 AM,” K.R.I.T. spreads his soul over the course of 17 selections. “I just wanted to do a sequel to Return of 4Eva, instead of it being just a group of songs, I said, ‘Man, let me do something conceptual,’ ” K.R.I.T. tells Mixtape Daily of the motivation behind his 2012 tape. Last March the Meridian, Mississippi MC/producer dropped his critically acclaimed Return of 4Eva. Though his releases are considered mixtapes, K.R.I.T. presents his works like albums. There are no freestyles, only well-thought-out songs of the rapper’s own original production. On his last tape, songs like “Highs & Lows,” “Dreamin’ ” and “The Vent” found K.R.I.T. bypassing the standard rap fare of money, cars and clothes, choosing to give more substance in his music. 4Eva N a Day takes the formula futher. ” 4Eva N a Day was pretty much a day in the life of as far as me,” he said. “So I tried to put my whole life on wax, from the moment I wake up, real life conversations with my father, my actual grandmother, there’s audio of her talking before a song. There’s people in my life that are actually on this tape.” “Boobie Miles” is an inspirational hymn inspired by the Texas high school running back whose real-life story inspired the 1990 critically acclaimed book “Friday Night Lights” and the movie of the same name. On the track, Krizzle urges listeners to put God first, a spiritual theme that carries the tape throughout. The title track finds the self-proclaimed King Remembered in Time celebrating his relative victories in the face of haters. On “Handwriting,” the Def Jam signee vents about label woes, and on “Insomnia,” he seeks some sexual healing to help ease the stresses of his day. If you let K.R.I.T. tell it, the life of an up-and-coming rap star isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, but you also get the feeling that the rookie wouldn’t have it any other way. Sorry Perverts: That Throwback Nekked Home Movie Featuring Tupac And a Groupie Will Never Be Available To The Public

There must be a super ‘Pac stan out there who’s just been waiting for this day… According to TMZ , the person who randomly came across an adult film starring Tupac developed a conscience. Tupac Shakur’s 1991 sex tape is officially off the market — TMZ has learned, the XXX footage has been sold to a private collector. Sources connected to the deal tells us, the former tape owner decided not to sell to a big company out of principle — claiming the corporate porn fat cats were “parasites.” No word on what it sold for … but as we previously reported, bids for the background music alone — an original, unreleased Tupac track — had reached $1,000,000. Maybe next time, folks … though we wouldn’t hold our breath — a rep for the Tupac estate tells us, it plans to block any future sale of the tape … and make sure the tape never sees the light of day. Ooooh… So Ms. Afeni finally ponied up the blackmail money, huh?

Mike Posner Is ‘A Rapper Trapped In A Singer’s Body’

‘I got love and acceptance in that community, and that’s something that I really take seriously,’ Mike Posner tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Mike Posner Photo: MTV News Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Mixtape : The Layover Key Cameo : “Rocket Man” (featuring Bun B) Essential Info : Mike Posner is in touch with his rap side. On his new mixtape The Layover, he enlists the help of noted spitters like Bun B, Big K.R.I.T., Twista, Slim Thug, Cyhi the Prynce and Machine Gun Kelly — not that the “Cooler Than Me” singer lacks hip-hop swag, though. “I’m kind of like a rapper trapped in a singer’s body,” Posner told Mixtape Daily. “That was the whole idea of me starting to sing in the first place. It took me a long time to stumble upon a sound, and I figured out I wanted to kinda sing rapper’s lyrics.” Maybe it’s his smoky voice or the way he intertwines slang into his lyrics, but the seemingly poppy Posner is a definite product of the hip-hop generation. Doubters need look no further than the recently released Layover. For much of the tape, Posner takes classic records like Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and Elton John’s “Rocket Man” and adds his own swag. On “Henny & Purple” the Detroit crooner dedicates an entire song to getting high and drinking drank; for “On Fire,” he and Machine Gun Kelly revisit Posner’s 2009 track “Drug Dealer Girl” and deliver a well-equipped sequel. Things get even dustier when Mike enlists former Slum Village lyricist Elzhi to jump on “Mittens Up.” On the bouncy track, Mike borrows from 50 Cent’s “Wanksta” when he sings, “Damn, homey, in high school you was the man, homey,” but it is Elzhi who has the tape’s most densely packed lyrics. “That’s why I make mixtapes, that’s why I work with Don Cannon, that’s why i work with Big Sean,” Posner said. “Even though I don’t rap, I got love and acceptance in that community, and that’s something that I really take seriously and hold close to my heart.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .

Lindsay Lohan Theft Video Sparks Legal War

Apparently the photo of Lindsay Lohan having her chest clutched by Spencer Falls isn’t the most controversial image of the actress this weekend. The owners of the jewelry store where Lohan stole that necklace are at war with a guy who was trying to hawk the surveillance tape of it. A lawsuit appears imminent, according to TMZ. Geoff and Sofia Kaman, owners of the infamous Kamofie & Company jewelry store, hired a broker, Christopher Spencer, to shop the surveillance tape. Spencer reached a deal with the AP, which agreed to sell the tape of Lindsay Lohan committing the moderate-to- major necklace heist to media outlets. The AP was to give Spencer a cut of the profits, which he would in turn share with the Kamans. But the Kamans believed he was stiffing them. They sent an email to the Associated Press, inquiring about the payments to Spencer, who became livid and fired off a cease and desist letter. “You do not have any legal right to contact the AP and suggest I’ve been ripping you off which is what you’ve done,” the tape’s broker wrote. Spencer continues going off on them, “I am in disbelief that, after achieving so much in your benefit, you’d be reaching out to someone and suggest that my company or I are not paying you money that’s owed to you.” Spencer threatens if the Kamans don’t back off, he’ll sue. The Kamans had no comment, but frankly, they deserve what they get for trying to play the victim with the police, then cash in on Lindsay in the first place. Lohan went on to plead no contest to the charge, which was knocked down to a misdemeanor. She was placed on probation and house arrest.

Skyzoo Wants A Shot At Rap’s Great Lyrical Debate

‘The tape itself is something that people are gonna talk about,’ Skyzoo tells Mixtape Daily about The Great Debater. By Rob Markman Skyzoo Photo: Duck Down Main Pick Street King : Skyzoo Holding It Down For : Brooklyn, NY Mixtape : The Great Debater Real Spit : Back when Hov posed the question in his 1997 song “Where I’m From,” people would argue about who was the best MC. Biggie, Jay-Z and Nas were popular G.O.A.T candidates, but after the ’90s era of New York lyricism began to fade, the debate turned to: “Who sells the most records or has the most money?” With his latest mixtape, The Great Debater, Brooklyn rapper Skyzoo looks to re-shift the focus. “The concept, the theme for the whole project is really just taking the idea of what people already think about me as far as being a lyricist, a rapper’s rapper. And The Great Debater just carries on that tradition,” Sky told Mixtape Daily. “The tape itself is something that people are gonna talk about, go back and forth about, as far as where it puts me in the echelon of MCs and lyricists and where people already place me and where I’m already at with it.” For Sky to assume that his tape will put him in the conversation with some of rap’s elite may come off as pretentious to those who aren’t familiar with his catalog, but one listen to The Great Debater should curb doubts. The tightly packed bars of “Complicated Rhythm” exemplify S-K’s mission as he parallels his rise to the likes of NBA great LeBron James and Jay-Z. He starts off, “They give me the same flack they gave Gloria’s son/ Either or: James or Carter, but both of them won.” On “The Definitive Prayer,” he continues to weave intricate rhyme schemes as he brags that his “serenades warrant hearing aids.” The tape’s production is key, too, focusing more on boom-bap than club-driven tracks thanks to beats from 9th Wonder, Illmind and Best Kept Secret. Overall, the Brooklyn rapper’s offering challenges the listener, who will no doubt have to listen several times in order to breakdown the MC’s lyrical layers. But no matter which side of the Skyzoo great debate you end up on, it’s an interesting conversation. Joints to Check For

Trae Tha Truth Reaches For The Crown On Undisputed

Houston MC talks to Mixtape Daily about teaming with host Don Cannon and a gang of rap faves like Wiz Khalifa on latest tape. By Rob Markman Trae The Truth Photo: A.B.N. Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Headliner : Trae Tha Truth Mixtape : Undisputed Key Cameo : “Getting Paid,” featuring Wiz Khalifa Essential Info : A lot of MCs claim to be your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper, but judging from the amount of love that Houston’s Trae Tha Truth has been receiving lately, he may have sole claim to that crown. Just check the track list on his latest mixtape, Undisputed, which includes appearances by Young Jeezy, Pusha T, Rick Ross and Wiz Khalifa. It’s clear that Trae gets his respect. Undisputed comes as Trae is putting the finishing touches on his new studio album, Street King. The tape is hosted by DJ Don Cannon, and for Trae, the union between he and Cannon, is significant. “It was kinda something that was overdue with me and Cannon’s career. We’ve been in the talks of it for a minute but we both was real tied up,” he told Mixtape Daily. “Cannon actually hit me maybe two to three weeks before we put it out and was like, ‘It’s time.’ When he told me it was time, I came back into Houston , kinda stopped what I was doing, and got it going.” Despite being well-respected in the industry, Trae still feels that he and Cannon have a long way to go in terms of mainstream notice. “We were doing the tape just off the strength of us, just because we feel a lot of people overlook me for what I do on the music and a lot of people overlook him as far as what he do on the DJ game,” Trae explained. “We’re both household names, but we still gotta show a lot of people what it is.” Driven by hard-core street cuts like “Gettin Paid,” featuring Wiz Khalifa, Trae continues to reign as underground rap royalty, his stock rising with each release. On “Inkredible (Remix),” producer StreetRunner adds a new beat to Trae’s 2010 single, while Jadakiss adds a new verse. Now that the tape has dropped, Trae seems to have picked up the right momentum as he prepares the release of his full-length Street King on June 28. A week before the album’s release date, Trae will touch down in New York City for a rare headlining performance at SOB’s. Fred the Godson and French Montana are already confirmed guests, but Trae promised Mixtape Daily that there’ll be some surprises.
