‘Demi Lovato: Stay Strong’ Trailer: Must-See Moments

Documentary chronicling singer’s personal struggles airs at 10 p.m. ET/PT Tuesday, March 6, on MTV. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato in the “Stay Strong” trailer Photo: MTV News & Docs Demi Lovato pledges to “Stay Strong” in her MTV documentary, the aptly titled Demi Lovato: Stay Strong,” which will debut on Tuesday, March 6, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. When the trailer dropped last week, fans immediately began to watch it on repeat. It lends insight and gives sneak peeks into what Lovatics will get to see and hear from the star when the full show airs next week. The deeply personal special follows the singer/actress as she struggles to confront her personal demons, while also focusing on her music career. “I wanted to do this documentary because I told a lot of my story but no one has taken cameras inside of my life and gotten to see what it’s like first-hand a day in the life of me,” she told MTV News on Thursday (March 1). “I thought it would be a cool opportunity for my fans to see what it’s like.” Before the show airs, MTV News is taking a look at several of the must-see moments from the trailer. Her Fans Demi opens up about the support she received from her fans during her personal struggles, noting that they helped her though her darkest days and still do. Her fans also talk about how appreciative they are of her openness and honesty. She even visits the Illinois treatment facility where she spent several months. She later says, “I’m not fixed; this is a daily battle. But I continue to work my butt off because now I want to be a legitimate role model.” Battling Her Eating Disorders The singer/actress makes her way home for her first Thanksgiving since treatment. Having dealt with eating disorders, she goes to a family gathering for a holiday that’s focused on eating. “I never thought that I’d be a role model,” she says about her public image. “When I first started in the industry, everyone just kind of made me a role model, and I hated that. I had so many issues underneath that needed to be taken care of. … It literally ended up driving me insane.” Getting Back to Touring She cut her tour with the Jonas Brothers short in 2010 when she went into treatment, and in fall 2011 she embarked on her first tour since leaving treatment. About the trek, she notes, “This time on tour I feel like I am definitely not taking anything for granted.” The special is named after two tattoos on her wrists that read, “Stay Strong.” The ink pays homage to her devoted fans, who stood by her side through her recent personal struggles through her return in 2011, when she released her album Unbroken. “It’s something that my fans were actually drawing on their wrists while I was still in treatment,” she explained about the significance of her tattoos. “Some people even got tattoos of it, so I wanted to show you guys that I will never forget the support that you guys gave me.” Don’t miss “Demi Lovato: Stay Strong,” debuting Tuesday, March 6, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. John Carter Plays Hard-To-Get In Exclusive New Clip

Star Taylor Kitsch stops by with never-before-seen footage from the film. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Kitsch in “John Carter” Photo: Disney As part of “MTV First: ‘John Carter,’ ” the man himself, Taylor Kitsch , sat down with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz to talk about his upcoming movie and share an exclusive clip. In the never-before-seen clip from “John Carter,” the titular hero plays a little hard to get with the Princess of Mars, Dejah Thoris ( Lynn Collins ). Carter needs to find a way back to Earth after his unintentional trip to Mars, or Barsoom, depending on which planet you call home, but he’s not exactly trusting of the Martian princess. The plot may seem a bit convoluted, but Kitsch said that it all boils down to a story about a man. “The core of it is truly a guy that’s been broken,” he said. “He lost his family and gets transported on to Mars, as you do, and has this opportunity in front of him. The people, a woman, Dejah Thoris, pulls it out of him. To use clich

T.I. Signs Trae Tha Truth To Grand Hustle

‘We’re gonna work alongside each other for a common goal and release this Trae tha Truth project,’ T.I. tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman Trae Tha Truth and T.I. Photo: MTV News T.I. ‘s hustle just got a little more grand. Not only is the King of the South gearing up to release his eighth studio album, Trouble Man, Tip is also expanding his Grand Hustle roster, adding new artists at seemingly every turn. His latest addition: Houston street king Trae tha Truth . Trae and Tip announced the joint venture deal between Grand Hustle and the Houston MC’s ABN label Wednesday (February 29) on “RapFix Live.” “We’re gonna work alongside each other for a common goal and release this Trae tha Truth project,” T.I. said of the deal, which was arrived at the old-fashioned way. “When cats [who are] cut from a certain cloth give their word and shake their hand, that’s what makes it a done deal — the ink is just a formality.” The two haven’t yet figured out how Trae’s upcoming ABN projects will be distributed, however. T.I. is currently signed to Atlantic through Grand Hustle, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Trae’s project will travel through the same channels. But Trae doesn’t seem overly concerned about the particulars. “Me and Tip are similar in a lot of ways. We both understand what it is,” Trae said. “The thing that kinda made me way more comfortable is he reached out more on a partner note to where it wasn’t about money, it wasn’t about none of that. It was about, ‘Look, we can team up or even if you doin’ your own thing, I’m just supporting what you got goin’, I want to see you make it.’ ” Without the help of a major label, Trae has already carved out his lane in the streets. While he isn’t the most popular MC, it’s hard to find an artist in the game today who is more respected. His last album, Street King, featured not only underground rappers like Messy Marv and Yo Gotti, but also boasted contributions from the likes of Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Big Boi and Wiz Khalifa. “Grand Hustle is an established brand, ABN is already an established brand, it’s about seeing what we can do to parlay what we’ve already done for ourselves to make it benefit the other and it’s a two-way street,” T.I. explained. Taylor Kitsch Takes To The Ice For ‘MTV First: John Carter’

Kitsch will bring a brand-new clip to MTV at 7:56 p.m. ET Thursday, followed by a 30-minute chat on MTV.com. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Kitsch Photo: MTV News Interviewing one of this summer’s biggest stars, like, for instance, Taylor Kitsch , can be difficult. Asking the important questions while he’s shooting hockey pucks at you is an entirely different story. The star of “John Carter” and “Battleship” hit the ice with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz to take your questions as a part of “MTV First: John Carter.” Though he’s known for his work on the football field in “Friday Night Lights,” Kitsch originally hails from the Great White North, so hockey is in his blood. That isn’t a problem until you’re the one playing goalie. During their interview, Horowitz strapped himself in and faced down Kitsch for a no-holds-barred round of movie questions and ice hockey. But before all that, Kitsch will premiere a never-before-seen clip from “John Carter” on MTV. You’ll have to tune in Thursday, March 1, at 7:56 p.m. ET to see the brand-new footage. Immediately afterward, on MTV.com, Kitsch will answer fan-submitted questions while shooting hockey pucks at his interviewer. It should be a good time. It’s going to be an epic showdown on the ice, and it’s all going to take place on MTV and MTV.com. In “John Carter,” Kitsch plays a Confederate officer transported to Barsoom, or Mars, as it’s more commonly referred to by humans. There, Carter finds himself embroiled in an epic war between two races for the fate of the planet. The film will be released March 9 in digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D. Catch Taylor Kitsch Thursday, March 1, on MTV at 7:56 p.m. ET, when he’ll debut an exclusive, never-before-seen clip from “John Carter.” Then head over to MTV.com for our 30-minute chat with Rudd and Aniston. Will Action-Packed Final Trailer Fix Things for John Carter?

It’s no secret that Disney’s been scrambling to counteract bad tracking and mixed word of mouth on their mega-budgeted March actioner John Carter , so it’s worth a look to see what they’ve done with the latest (and “final”) trailer for the Edgar Rice Burroughs adaptation. And behold! A trailer filled with nearly everything that makes John Carter worth going to see: Alien creatures, political intrigue, Taylor Kitsch in a loincloth, Lynn Collins as Dejah Thoris, and lots of inventive, fantastical action. The trailer doesn’t bother trying to explain what Kitsch’s American Civil War veteran John Carter is doing on the strange world of Mars, caught between various factions in a planetary war who each want his heightened battle skills to use as their secret weapon. Nor does it try to woo the ladies, or at least what studio execs think of as the traditionally-minded romantic-leaning female demographic, by spending too much time on Carter’s series-defining love affair with the Martian princess. Nope, this trailer gives us action, and from the start: John Carter leaps over his enemies in battle, slashing his way through to victory so well that even Mark Strong’s all-knowing Thern leader has to ask, “Who is that??” We glimpse the film’s breathtaking aerial battles, but those podracer-esque aircrafts are barely seen. Star Wars similarities , begone! The trailer ends as it begins — with a John Carter fight, this time in an arena against a giant white ape. It’s one of the better action scenes of the film, and yet doesn’t reveal too much. Disney’s already (most likely) got the Burroughs diehards in the bag, not to mention whatever Pixar fans may come out to support/check out Finding Nemo and WALL-E director Andrew Stanton in his live-action debut. Does a trailer like this engage the uninitiated male demo enough to turn the tide of bad, or underwhelming, word of mouth? And if Disney doesn’t get a certain female audience with this clip, Kitsch’s niche Friday Night Lights following aside, is that okay? As a lifelong fan of sci-fi and fantasy myself, I was immersed in the world of John Carter as soon as he hit the sandy dunes of Mars. If you aren’t interested by now in at least checking out John Carter , no amount of calculated marketing is likely to change that. Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
