Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would be sitting behind my laptop screen writing my very own Bieber Experience! But I am so glad Justin taught me to NSN because here I am, my name is Merlixse and this is my Bieber experience. On June 23, 2011 I had the most incredible experience ever! A couple of days before the Someday event, one of my closest friends called me, texted and left a couple of voicemail messages saying JUSTIN BIEBER WAS HAVING A MEET AND GREET IN MACY’S ! As soon as I found out, naturally I begged my mother to let me go. Being that it was kind of expensive I had to clean up everything at home, and let me tell you boy was it worth it! We started lining up at 10am on Tuesday, myself and my friends were 5th in line and spent more than 24 hours on the streets of NYC. It was INSANE. We spoke to every single stranger who was passing by or asking for info and at one point my friend and I were so anxious that we went into Macy’s and helped them make TWO SALES of $145 ! Then came Thursday when I was actually meeting Bieber. I woke up extremely early to go down to T he View and to T he Today Show just to get a glimpse of him so I wouldn’t be so shocked when I met him later that day. Finally came 2:00pm. While waiting on the line, Adam Braun came by to speak to all the fans and I spoke to him and told him all about my sleepover in the streets. He laughed and thanked me and my friends for being so supportive. When leaving, Adam turned around, looked at me while taking off his Pencils of Promise bracelet, smiled and gave it to me! Then in a blink of an eye it was finally my turn, I was one of the last people to meet Justin. When I was walking towards him and in the middle of a hug, his phone rang. He ignored the call and proceeded with the meet and greet. I was so lucky the camera broke so I was standing with him in same position as my photo for like 3 minutes. I awkwardly said “Well isn’t this hilarious” and he asked me, ”So what’s up?” We had a legit conversation how my friends and I were there for 24 hours and how we were in the picture he tweeted. His bright eyes opened wide in amazement as he said “WOW! That’s crazy”. Then he asked me, ”Then why are you one of the last to meet me?” I told him we were trying to be last, but he understood that we went home to change. Then my friend Melissa who helped me sell Someday perfumes in Macy’s yelled, ”YOU’RE SO LUCKY, I HATE YOU” Justin looked me in the eyes with a huge smile and said, “I think your friends are a little jealous of you!” Although everything that happened to me that day was amazing, the best part is the girl’s picture right after me he’s still looking at me! The next day I tweeted a picture of me with the bracelet to Adam and he DM’d me! This experience made me understand the reason why the perfume is called Someday . It means someday you will reach you dreams and goals. Despite some chatter to the contrary , comedies are alive and well in Hollywood this summer. Especially R-rated comedies: the combined domestic grosses of The Hangover Part II , Bridesmaids and Bad Teacher are closing in on $500 million. Into this landscape arrives Horrible Bosses (out Friday), the Seth Gordon-directed comedy about three dudes who try to kill their titular terrible employers. How come Bosses works so well when some other summer comedies have not?
Tom Cruise starred in Born on the Fourth of July . In real life, he was born on the third, and yesterday, wife Katie Holmes surprised him with a surprise 49th birthday bash at Miami Beach’s SoHo Beach House. Cruise’s three kids – Suri, with Katie, and Connor and Isabella, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman – were all there to celebrate, along with 40 close friends. The bash took place on the roof and inside the private venue, where guests enjoyed pasta, shrimp and other Italian dishes, in addition to chocolate cake. Tom Cruise is in Florida now filming Rock of Ages . He’s been a Hollywood rock star himself for almost three decades, with no signs of slowing down. When I found out Justin was coming to Hong Kong on Friday 13th May 2011 , I was freaking out. My family has always been supportive of me when it came to being a belieber , and went to all extents to help me see Justin, including flying me over to Singapore to watch his concert there. (Where I cried for 30 minutes straight because it was the first time I saw him in the flesh). I was really afraid that I wouldn’t be able to get good seats at the concert, but all my worries were swept away when BieberFever, the official fan club, posted a link to the PRE-SALE! Right away, we bought the VIP tickets, which put me in the FIFTH ROW!! Suddenly, I realized if BieberFever were already promoting the Hong Kong concert, then there must be Meet & Greets passes that could be won! After lots of hard work and sending all the screenshots/video in, I prayed for days. The day before the concert, I checked my phone before classes, in between classes, any time I was free for the email. During recess, I took out my phone, and I saw an email from Brad Haugen, entitled “Congratulations, Bieber Fan!” At the time, my two best friends were with me. I screamed so loud that the teacher next door had to shoo me outside, and my two friends rushed over to see what had happened. By lunchtime, half of secondary already knew about the news that I was meeting Justin Bieber. Other fans got really envious, non-beliebers somehow became beliebers, and those who didn’t hate or love Justin just congratulated me and kept telling me NOT TO CRY when I saw him. The next day, we got our purple wristbands! We were told that we would only get a picture and we weren’t allowed to give him anything or ask for an autograph. As I walked up to Justin, he extended his hand out to me and smiled at me. “Hi.” I wanted to hug him and never let go, but I knew that I needed to control myself. I shook his hand instead, “Hi Justin, are you feeling better today?” His hand was warm and his voice was gentle. “Yeah, thank you!” , as he put his hand on my waist (almost like a sideway hug!) We smiled for the camera. At that moment, all I could think was, “OH MY FREAKING GAWD!! HE’S TOUCHING MY DRESS!! AHHHH”, but I didn’t say it out loud. After the photo, Justin put his hand on my back gently as the security escorted me outside the room. I walked as slowly as possible, saying to Justin as I left, “Thank you Justin, I love you so much!”. As Justin said, “Thank you!” I broke down again! Outside the room, I bent down and cried so hard I couldn’t breathe. As I came out of the exit, about 50 fans waiting outside screamed as they thought I was some kind of VIP. A friend from my school shouted, “Chantel!” and all I could manage was “I JUST MET JUSTIN BIEBER!”. The concert was amazing too, sitting in the 5th row. ‘Bad Teacher,’ starring Cameron Diaz, makes a strong showing at #2, with ‘Green Lantern’ following behind at #3. By Ryan J. Downey “Cars 2” Photo: Disney “Cars 2” may be the worst-reviewed movie in Pixar’s storied history, but that didn’t stop the animated sequel from maintaining the studio’s streak of box-office number ones. The second entry in the merchandise-friendly franchise took in $68 million over the weekend, according to distributor Walt Disney Studios, making it Pixar’s 12th consecutive movie to debut atop the box-office charts. Thanks to higher ticket prices and expensive 3-D screenings, “Cars 2” enjoyed the fifth-biggest opening for a Pixar film ever. In terms of attendance, however, the “Cars 2” debut was ahead of only “A Bug’s Life,” “Ratatouille” and the beloved company’s first feature film, 1995’s “Toy Story.” The 3-D fatigue evidenced by other recent openings continued as a mere 40 percent of moviegoers chose to see “Cars 2” in that format (versus the 60 percent who opted to see “Toy Story 3” in 3-D). “Bad Teacher,” the weekend’s other new wide release, debuted at #2 with $31 million. It was a strong showing for the reportedly low-budget Cameron Diaz vehicle, which industry watchers had predicted would be less well-received. Debuting the adult-oriented comedy against the family-oriented “Cars 2” was apparently a wise choice on the part of Sony Pictures, who released the film. Warner Bros., meanwhile, watched “Green Lantern” drop 66 percent in its second weekend of release. A sequel was already in development before Ryan Reynolds hit the screen as the DC Comics hero, but there has been little news about those plans since its lukewarm debut. “Lantern” made $18.4 million over the weekend for an $89.3 million total. With an estimated production budget of $200 million and a major marketing campaign behind it, “Green Lantern” has not done well. “Super 8” bears the distinction of being the only well-reviewed film in the top five. JJ Abrams’ nostalgic homage to ’80s coming-of-age classics took in $12.1 million for a $95.2 million total. Coming in at #5, Jim Carrey’s “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” dropped 44 percent with $10.3 million for a $39.4 million two-week total. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” seems a safe bet for next weekend’s number one. Cameron Diaz may be the tit-ular character in Bad Teacher, but skingy Cameron has no chest apples for her students in this bawdy comedy. Spankfully, Christine Smith , aka Playboy ‘s Miss December 2005, substitutes for a lesson in female anatomy 16 minutes in, when we get a closeup shot of her casaba melons. You’ll be feeling pretty handy yourself as Cameron squeezes and pinches Christine’s cans, admiring her plastic surgeon’s handiwork. The delicious Ms. Diaz does get goofy-sexy 21 minutes in, where she lures lusty guys into a school car wash posing in teeny-tiny cutoffs and a wet cutoff shirt. We wouldn’t mind soaking her with our hose! Last but not least, we could write an entire essay on Lucy Punch ‘s chest pillows. 45 minutes in, the camera zooms in on Lucy’s lungs in a nipply top as she jumps up and down on the dance floor.
