Photography Teacher At California High School Found Hanged In Classroom Via NYDailyNews A California school teacher hanged herself in her classroom Monday, leaving students to make the disturbing discovery. The stunned teens and another teacher pulled down the 31-year-old woman during her last gasps of life and called for help, according to media reports. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the 8:30 a.m. discovery at El Dorado High School in Placentia and found the teacher in full cardiac arrest, school officials said. “Paramedics performed life saving measures, however after several minutes the victim was declared deceased at the scene,” a Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District spokesman said in a statement. “The initial investigation indicates the cause of death to be suicide.” Distraught students identified the teacher as Jillian Jacobson, a popular photography instructor. “Thank you so much Mrs. Jacobson for teaching me how to take amazing photos, and also for being a great friend,” one wrote on Twitter. Several students claimed Jacobson’s father had also committed suicide and she had often counseled students about the dangers, according to the Orange County Register. Principal Uses School Money To Build Private Gym Wait, is the principal in a bikini??? The NY Post reports: The principal is in much better shape than her school. Principal Jazmine Santiago used school funds to install her own private gym with a bench press, pull-up bar, treadmill, elliptical machine and thigh exerciser on the third floor of PS 269 in Flatbush, sources told The Post. When some staffers questioned the expenditure, Santiago claimed she shares the equipment with older students, according to one source. But the underperforming school only goes through Grade 5, which would make the oldest students 11 years old and an average 4-foot-10 — not tall enough to reach some of the heavy-duty equipment. “Their bodies are not ready for a treadmill,” one teacher said. Staffers fumed that Santiago converted a storage room into her own private workout space in June 2014 with no consultation. “She comes in early, she goes to the gym. Even when class is in session, she’s still in the gym,” said another teacher. Teachers say the room is always locked and not accessible to other staff, much less students. Santiago, who makes $124,319 a year, refused to meet a Post reporter on school grounds and didn’t return calls. The elementary school has struggled during her four-year reign. Only 16 percent of students passed state English tests and only 12 percent passed math exams last year. SMH…she’s got some explaining to do.

The Internet’s latest viral video craze comes from group of students performing a full choreographed dance to Mark Ronson’s hit song “Uptown Funk.” Ronson’s track, featuring Bruno Mars’ vocals, has risen to the top of the charts. Now these Texas high school kids are taking it to the top of YouTube trends! Texas High School Uptown Funk Video Students at A. Maceo Smith New Tech H.S. in Dallas, along with theater teacher Scot Pankey, organized and shot the video earlier this month. So far, the video posted to YouTube on January 24 has garnered over 6.5 million page views. Writes Pankey of the clip that’s sweeping the nation: “This is a great example of how a bunch of [technology] students let go of their fears, trusted their teacher and got down to Uptown Funk!!!” “I heard the song before Christmas and fell in love with it. We are a project-based school,” he adds, so he gave them this as their assignment! “You put them in teams, and they have to come up with solutions. They had three weeks to work on it, then present as a group what they learned.” The video was shot by a student, walking backwards through hallways and up and down stairs as his classmates did their awesome thing. Even more impressively, it was shot in a single take. Mars shared the video on Twitter with the caption, “I cried at the end. I’m still a thug though. Thank you to everyone involved in making this video.” Indeed. Teacher Causes Outrage After Allowing Students To Reenact Mike Brown Shooting At School Parents in Alabama are outraged after one mother took to her Faceook page to alert other parents that her child and theirs had been involved a reenactment of the senseless, fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Mike Brown while at school. via WFSA Selma The internal investigation is complete of a sixth grade Dallas County teacher who was placed on paid administrative leave after students in her 6th grade class were instructed to re-enact the August 9th shooting death of Michael Brown in class. Brown, 18, was fatally shot by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer. The unarmed black man’s death by a white police officer has sparked protests and riots in the St. Louis suburb and around the country. Dallas County School System Superintendent Don Willingham says he’s wrapped up his investigation of the unnamed Brantley Elementary School teacher and says he’s discussed his decision with the principal. School officials planned a meeting with the teacher for Thursday afternoon. Results of that meeting are not yet known. The re-enactment sparked outrage after a parent of one of the students complained about the class assignment on social media. The assignment started out as an innocent current events lesson, discussing the recent incident in Missouri that has garnered heavy media attention. But, Jessica Baughn, the student’s mother, says the assignment just went too far. “This is not nowhere near right,” Baughn explained. “It was uncalled for.” Baughn explained the assignment in which her son took part. “She [the teacher] had them get on the internet and look up everything about [the Ferguson shooting],” Baughn says. “They proceeded to re-enact the shooting in class.” Baughn says the students used paper guns and paper bullets. “They actually shot them out of this made gun,” she says. “The child falls on the ground like he’s dead.” Baughn claims a white child played the role of Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson and a black student pretended to be Michael Brown. “I understand talking about current history,” the mom explained, “but not re-enacting it I don’t… What are we teaching our children?” We’ll definitely be paying attention to see how this story plays out.
