Washington Wizards big man JaVale McGee is undoubtedly the most wonderful player in the NBA. Whether he’s running the wrong way when his team gets possession of the basketball, throwing alley-oops to himself while his team is getting blown out of the building, or attempting to single-handedly torpedo the NBPA’s position during a tense labor negotiation period – this guy’s knack for unintentional comedy… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Opposing Views Discovery Date : 23/02/2012 03:19 Number of articles : 2

REVIEW: Hollywood Heartbeat Powers Stirring Football Doc Undefeated

The underdog candidate for this year’s Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, Undefeated is, fittingly, about an underdog sports team, a group of kids from an underfunded urban school for whom football provides some desperately needed structure as well as a possible route to a better life. There’s good reason the Weinstein Company reportedly coughed up seven figures for distribution and remake rights to the film — Undefeated  is Friday Night Lights meets The Blind Side  in nonfiction form, examining issues of class and race through the lens of its ragtag athletics program while also reinforcing American mythos of bootstrapping, hard work and community. Its triumphs are bittersweet, but they’re irresistible. That title isn’t literal, however; there are definite losses over the course of the single hard-fought, promising high school football season this film follows, and it’s still one of the best years the North Memphis Manassas Tigers have ever had. Bill Courtney is Undefeated ‘s center, a ruddy-faced, sweaty white guy who serves as volunteer coach at the mostly (if not entirely) black school. We first see him lecturing his team about how their ranks have been decimated by drop-outs, shootings and arrests: “Most coaches, that would be a career’s worth of crap to deal with. That sums up the last two weeks for me.” Bill has a family of his own and a flooring company to run, but coaching is his great love, and the depth of his investment in it and his sincere faith in the potential saving power of football make his gruff character easy to latch on to. He looks to be the closest thing most of the young men he works with have to a male authority figure in their lives, fathers out of the picture, and they latch on to his devotion and to the expectations he has of them with a quiet hunger. Undefeated also follows three of Courtney’s players through the year. The talented, good-natured O.C. Brown stands a good chance of getting a football scholarship if he can pulls his grades up. Montrail Brown, who goes by “Money,” is a good student working towards college until an injury on the field derails him and destroys his confidence. And Chavis Daniels arrives back on the team after a stint in juvie, and has alarming rage issues to manage. The Tigers have never won a playoff game, and they’re so underfunded that they used to raise money by traveling to play other schools for pay as an easy win. Over their season they face teams that are obviously more upscale (and ones whose racial make-up is very different) as well as teams that aren’t — one game against another Memphis school ends with the police on field shooing the boys back onto their bus to head off a potential brawl with the opposing school. Despite some early setbacks, the Tigers are having a good year, and as the team wends its way to a possible playoff spot the film starts to shine as it delves into the personal lives of its players. O.C. is going to become unrecruitable if his academics don’t improve, but tutors won’t go to the neighborhood where he lives with his grandmother, so another (white) coach takes him in a few days a week, O.C. moving into the coach’s comfy suburban set-up with his wife and kids. The matter-of-factness with which this and a later act of startling generosity are done make them heartwrenching, but also provide a reminder of how difficult  things like paying for college or getting better at classwork can be without outside help. Money struggles to find motivation to keep going with school after a knee injury possibly ends his season, and flirts with dropping out. Chavis, the most haunting character, seems to have no filter on his emotions, rage seething up without warning and dissipating just as quickly. He chooses the number “0” for himself because he claims he has no sense, and has a clash with another player based on nothing at all. But he keeps coming back, gets off suspension, finds a place for himself on the team, realizing he needs football and has to change if he wants to be allowed to stay with it. “I’ll die for you tonight,” he tells Bill when he’s put in the game, and you believe him. Aside from what looked like a few technical snags in terms of color,  Undefeated ‘s look is fluid and vital. It’s shot vérité style, but still finds moments for nods to studio magic — a circling camera around a hugging Bill and O.C. toward the end is unadulterated, completely effective Hollywood. Directed and edited by Daniel Lindsay and T.J. Martin (the pair collaborated previously on 2008’s Last Cup: Road to the World Series of Beer Pong ), the film finds romance in its images of the sport, from the boys walking off the field at sunset to the battles under the bright lights to a close-up that lingers on the Manassas temporary tattoo one player has fixed to his cheek. Undefeated doesn’t have the epic, years-spanning arc of Hoop Dreams , but it finds in its season some unfeigned resonance that, like tears during that final embrace on the field, can’t be eluded. Rick Ross Has No Beef With Pill

‘Once you rep the MMG flag, I’ll never step on your feet,’ Rick Ross tells MTV News of his former Maybach affiliate. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Rick Ross Photo: MTV News God Forgives, I Don’t may be the name of Rick Ross ‘ upcoming LP, but the Bawse isn’t as coldhearted as his album title may suggest. When it comes to former Maybach Music affiliate Pill , Rozay wishes the Atlanta MC all the best. “I’m a real dude and I’m a real boss and once you rep the MMG flag, I’ll never step on your feet; Imma give you a pass anyway,” Ross told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway of Pill while at French Montana’s “Shot Caller” remix video shoot in Miami on Sunday. In December, P-I-Double L took to Twitter to vent about his label situation with Warner Music Group , blaming WMG for his lack of radio and television support. Because of his prominent appearance on Maybach Music’s Self Made Vol. 1 compilation, many believed that Pill was signed to Ross’ label , but in an exclusive interview with MTV News in January, Pill revealed that he was never technically signed to Rozay and that his deal went strictly through MMG’s parent company, Warner. “Pill’s situation was a special situation because he was already signed to Warner before I did my label deal at Warner. So when I did do my deal, it was a business opportunity that was presented where Pill could run with the team for a year,” Ross confirmed. “I took that opportunity. That year ran its course and it was pretty much up to Warner what decisions they wanted to make with Pill as an artist after that point. I think they made it.” Pill told MTV News in January that he was working on getting a release from Warner and made it clear that he had no problems with anyone in MMG personally — though he did say that he and Ross didn’t speak very often. “I ain’t got nothing against none of them, nobody. It’s just the situation don’t work,” Pill said matter-of-factly. “It’s cool with us, I don’t got nothing against Ross either. It’s just I don’t talk to him.” Some believed that Pill’s outspokenness would anger the Boss, but Rozay didn’t take any of it to heart. “He made sure he reached out to me and called me and clarified,” Ross said. “He expressed that in no way was he disrespecting the team or the brand, because it’s a great opportunity and a great look.” As far as why the “Trap Goin’ Ham” rapper’s situation didn’t work out, Ross thought the young MC just needed a hit record and a little luck to build his momentum. He used the success of MMG’s Meek Mill and Wale to exemplify his point. “Certain things happen for certain people at certain times and none of us could really predict that,” he explained. “I couldn’t predict that Meek Mill would bring ‘Ima Boss’ to me or we couldn’t predict that Wale would bring ‘That Way.’ ” Even though Pill and WMG are now going their separate ways, Ross is looking forward to seeing his former Maybach affiliate rack up a win. “Hopefully, in the future he’ll bring him a hit record, and get him some paper and do his thing,” he said. “I wish him much success.” What do you hope to see from Pill in the future? R.I.P.: 21-Tear-Old Louisiana Tech Running Back Tyrone Duplessis Found Dead After Having Chest Pains

So sad: Louisiana Tech running back Tyrone Duplessis died Thursday morning after medics responded to an emergency call at his off-campus apartment. Hazel Woods, the chief investigator for the Lincoln Parish coroner’s office, said the cause of death was not yet known and an autopsy is pending. Ruston police Lt. Tim Parker said authorities are not investigating at this time and are awaiting the coroner’s report. “Tyrone was a valuable part of this football family,” Bulldogs coach Sonny Dykes said. “This is a tragic, senseless loss, but he made a lasting impact on this team, university and everyone that knew him.” A roommate of Duplessis made the emergency call after the running back woke up with chest pain, Louisiana Tech spokesman Patrick Walsh said. The 21-year-old Duplessis, a third-year student from New Orleans, recently completed his sophomore season of eligibility. Dykes has informed his players of Duplessis’ death and the team held a meeting to discuss it. The university has also made grief counselors available to the team. “We were deeply saddened,” Louisiana Tech President Dan Reneau said. “Tyrone was not only a valuable member of our football program, but much more importantly, he was a valued member of the Tech Family. This is a painful loss for our campus community and our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.” “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tyrone and his family,” Athletics Director Bruce Van De Velde said. “Tyrone was a special young man who was loved and respected by the Tech Family. He will be dearly missed, but I am sure his teammates and friends will honor and remember him through their commitment to fulfilling their potential.” Duplessis was recognized as an all-state running back at O.P. Walker High School, where he won a state championship in 2007. He is survived by his parents, George and Mary, and two siblings, George III and Levoneshia Dixon. R.I.P. Source More On Bossip! Why God Loves Tim Tebow More Than Any Other NFL Player [ORIGINAL]

Here is the original post:

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is becoming increasingly well-known to non-football fans, and it’s not just because of what he does on the football field. Tebow has not only turned around his team’s losing ways since becoming the starter by helping the Broncos win 8 of their last 9 games, but he has been an attractive promoter of Christianity. Everybody Loves Tim Tebow Here! With Tebow being the most vocal supporter of God in the NFL, how could God not love Tebow a little more? The degree of God’s love is not debatable, and it’s not likely that God actually loves Tim Tebow more than any other football player or human being for that matter. But if God did love Tebow more, here are some reasons why we’d understand… Christianity Now Trendy? Tim Tebow has literally made praising God trendy by “Tebowing” before each game. This probably wasn’t his intent, because Tebow just kneels down to pray briefly. However, the more the Broncos won, the more people took notice. Striking a prayer pose on one knee in random places became known as “Tebowing,” and people often share these images on social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Give Thanks During his post-game interviews, Tim Tebow thanks his Savior for the victory before he acknowledges anyone else. Instead of focusing on stats, or his great performance, Tebow gives all praise to God. Not Too Preachy Tebow received a great deal of criticism last year for appearing in a pro-life commercial with his mother. The ad ran during the Super Bowl, and pro-choicers criticized his decision to stand on this side of this faith/political issue. Tebow consistently speaks of his faith in interviews, but he hasn’t received a wave of backlash, because he’s celebrating his beliefs instead of imposing them on others. Building A Following The more Tim Tebow leads the Denver Broncos to victory, the more people wonder how helps his team win games that they seemed to have no way to win. Commentators and fans recognize that there must be a devine force, and that’s slowly and effectively showing people the power of Christ. On A Mission Tim Tebow is the son of missionaries, and earlier this year he followed in their footsteps by spreading Christianity in the Philippines. While some NFL players spend their off time getting into trouble, Tebow preaches to others by talking about what means the most to him.

Buffalo H.S. Cheer Team Suspended After Black Member Scraps It Up Over Being Called A Black Piece Of Isht And Their Pre-game N-Word Cheer

What happened to cheerleaders just spreading cheer and happiness and having sportsmanlike conduct??? A Buffalo girls basketball team was suspended after the players allegedly used a racial slur as part of their pregame cheer. Tyra Batts, the sole African-American on the Kenmore East High School’s squad, told the Buffalo News that her teammates would hold hands before the game, say a prayer and then shout “One, two, three (n——).” The practice came to light when she Tyra was suspended for getting into a fight about the use of racial slurs during practice, according to the newspaper. She said that she was alarmed by the cheer, but had been outnumbered and told that the use of the slur was just a team tradition. “I said, ‘You’re not allowed to say that word because I don’t like that word,’” she told the newspaper. “They said, ‘You know we’re not racist, Tyra. It’s just a word, not a label.’ I was outnumbered.” The 15-year-old eventually exploded after a practice when a teammate called her a ‘black piece of (expletive).’ She says she got into a fight with the girl later in school. “It was a buildup of anger and frustration at being singled out of the whole team,” she told the newspaper. Tyra’s suspension was shortened after the principal learned of the racial allegations. At least a dozen girls were suspended. Some of the team’s former players who took to Twitter seemed to have little knowledge of any “tradition” the team had of racial chants. “You (racist) b—-,” a 2010 graduate tweeted. “Glad I’m out of there.” Another one added, “Haha oh yeah that Ken East crap that’s going on. I want no part in that.” Where are the parents??? Seriously… SMH. Source

Theophilus London Goes ‘Super-Emo’ On ‘Breaking Dawn’ Soundtrack

‘I’m just so stoked that all these cute girls that like vampires hear my song,’ London says. By Jocelyn Vena Theophilus London Photo: MTV News The soundtrack for “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” drops this week, 10 days before the fourth film in the “Twilight Saga” hits theaters. Chock-full of tracks by artists like Bruno Mars (“It Will Rain”) and Christina Perri (“A Thousand Years”) , the emotions on the album mirror the action the Bill Condon-directed flick. For his track, up-and-coming MC Theophilus London wanted to embrace another side of his musical persona. “It was very unusual to do the soundtrack. But as I progress more with my career, I want to do more stuff like that, soundtrack stuff,” he told MTV News at the Glamour Women of the Year event in New York City. “So when they asked me do it, I was very privileged and pleased. I wanted to do a super-emo song about neighbors and how neighbors are very important. A lot of people are freaking out, but it’s a whole new fanbase for me. I’m just so stoked that all these cute girls that like vampires hear my song.” London wrote the track specifically for the flick, which opens November 18, however, he admitted that he hasn’t even seen a moment of any “Twilight” flick. “I wrote the song specifically for the movie without even seeing the movie,” he explained. “I’m happy. I’m sure a lot of musicians and writers want to be a part of the soundtrack. I’m just happy that I got picked over all those other acts. I appreciate it and there’s a lot more to come.” Don’t fret, Twilighters. London has every intention of seeing this next film. “I haven’t seen any of the movies, but I swear when this ‘Twilight’ movie comes out, I’m going to the regular movie theater in a black tie with my friends,” he joked. “And we’ll have a small little red carpet; just stand up in the theater and take our photos.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Justin Bieber Will Take Paternity Test In Two Weeks

Star’s spokesperson confirms to MTV News a test has been scheduled. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber Photo: Dave M. Benett/Getty Images As soon as Justin Bieber returns from a European promotional jaunt in two weeks he will take a paternity test to prove that he did not father a child with a fan who has claimed the pair had a backstage tryst. Bieber’s spokesperson, Matthew Hiltzik, confirmed for MTV News that the test has been scheduled. “I can confirm that the team has proactively made arrangements for Justin to be tested upon his return and we’re going to hold everyone who is involved responsible.” Bieber, 17, has denied that he is the father of accuser Mariah Yeater’s four-month-old child and his team has promised legal action following the results of the test. “It’s sad that someone would fabricate malicious, defamatory, and demonstrably false claims,” Hiltzik said in a statement. “We’ll vigorously pursue all available legal remedies to protect Justin and to hold those involved with bringing this suit accountable for their actions.” Bieber — who was a big winner at the MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday night with wins for Best Pop and Best Male — appeared on the “Today” show on Friday to promote his just-released Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe, and addressed the situation. “I’d just like to say, basically, that none of those allegations are true,” he told Matt Lauer. “I know I’m going to be a target, but I’m never going to be a victim.” Bieber explained on “Today” that the logistics of her claim don’t fit with his hectic schedule. “I think it’s crazy because every night after the show, I’ve gone right from the stage right to my car,” he explained. “So it’s crazy that some people want to make up some false allegations, but to set the record straight, none of it is true. Never met the woman.” It was also reported last week that the incident could spark a statutory rape investigation by Los Angeles police because the woman was 19 years old at the time and Bieber was allegedly 16. After he returns to the U.S. on November 17, Bieber will visit “Today” again on November 23 to perform a concert on the morning show. He is also slated to sit down with the ladies of “The View” that day. Related Videos MTV First: Justin Bieber Related Artists Justin Bieber
