‘The Expendables 2’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Sylvester Stallone and his team return to fight an unexpected threat in this action-packed trailer. By Fallon Prinzivalli Sylvester Stallone in “The Expendables 2” Photo: Lionsgate After teasing the film with exclusive posters and movie stills , the first full-length trailer for “The Expendables 2” finally dropped Thursday (May 3). IGN premiered the preview to the action-packed film with an intro from Sylvester Stallone himself. “If you thought the first movie kicked some serious ass,” Sly says, “you haven’t seen anything yet.” With an A-List cast including Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean-Claude Van Damme and newcomers Liam Hemsworth and Chuck Norris, we don’t doubt the “Rocky” actor’s words. The film follows the return of Barney Ross (Stallone) and his team as Mr. Church (Willis) enlists the Expendables for a job that seems like easy money. When one of their crew is murdered, however, the revenge they seek leaves them stranded in enemy territory having to combat an unexpected threat. Check out the five key scenes from the action-packed trailer: Swinging Into Action The trailer opens with sirens blaring and the crew propelling down a zip-line into the middle of a forest. As you’d expect, the firing begins immediately as sparks start flying and a truck flips over — and we’re only 30 seconds in. Just when you think Barney Ross and his team are the ones doing the ass-kicking, they’re surrounded by the enemy. Lee Christmas (Statham) looks over Barney and asks, “That loaded?” Barney replies, “I hope so,” and begins taking their captors down one by one with a hidden gun in his hand — or did he? The shot then cuts to newcomer Bill “The Kid” Timmons (Hemsworth), who is hiding in the trees with a smoking gun. Time to Reload The team loads their weapons as Barney tells the Kid, “Somebody’s hooked.” Protecting the world by taking out the bad guys with some heavy artillery — who wouldn’t be? The next scene shows Lee in priest robes saying, “I now pronounce you man and knife,” and cuts away before we catch a glimpse of who he inevitably stabs. The next clips show various members of the team speeding off on motorcycles, engaging in hand to hand combat, taking down helicopters and setting off explosion after explosion. The Threat Our villain comes in the form of Jean-Claude Van Damme (aptly named Jean Vilain) who’s planning on using a very powerful chemical to change the balance of the world. World dominance, that’s what every bad guy is after, right? As we see his team gathering, the tagline flashes across the screen, “When the threat is this great, everyone is expendable.” If everyone’s expendable, Barney is going to need a lot more men to get through this one. Cue Chuck Norris and Arnold Schwarzenegger Like clockwork the invincible Chuck Norris (Booker) approaches the camera walking away from cars engulfed in flames and smoke. (Cool guys don’t look at explosions, remember?) Next is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (Trench) turn to get in a version of his classic tagline: “I’m back.” As he says it, he leans out of a window wearing a band of bullets around his chest and casually smoking a cigar. Killing a few bad guys? Been there, done that. The Plan When Lee asks the plan of attack to stop the enemy, Barney says, “Track ’em, find ’em, kill ’em.” And you guessed it, more explosions, more knife fights, and bullets, bullets, bullets. If you’re looking for an action film, you will not be disappointed. One clip that stood out was Church pulling up in a tiny car and telling Trench to get in. He rips the door off the automobile as he climbs in and says, “My shoe is bigger than this car.” It hints at the inevitable comedy involved in a film with an all-star cast. In the final sequence, Barney drives a plane into a tunnel and Lee says, “You’re going to need a new plane.” The two laugh as the screen fades to black. “The Expendables 2” will explode into theaters August 17. Jennifer Hudson Breaks Down During Murder Trial Testimony

‘We did not like how he treated her,’ Hudson says of alleged killer William Balfour. By Gil Kaufman Jennifer Hudson in court on Monday Photo: Splash News What was expected to be one of the most dramatic moments in the trial of the man accused of killing
Oscar-winning singer Jennifer Hudson ‘s mother, brother and nephew occurred in the first hours when Hudson took the stand and tearfully recounted her family’s disapproval of William Balfour. According to the Chicago Tribune Hudson choked back tears on Monday (April 23) morning as she told jurors that no one in her family wanted Balfour to marry her sister. “We didn’t like the way he treated her, and I didn’t like the way he treated my nephew,” she said of Balfour, who has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the October 24, 2008 slayings of Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson; brother Jason Hudson; and her 7-year-old nephew, Julian King. Dressed in all black with her hair pulled back into a ponytail, Hudson spoke at a whisper at times and was asked by the judge to speak louder when she became inaudible. Hudson didn’t offer much insight into the murders themselves, but the Tribune reported that her emotional testimony painted a “heartbreaking picture of a close-knit family torn apart by a violent crime.” The singer had to stop to compose herself at times on the stand as she spoke about her beloved mother and nephew. She said she spoke to or texted Donerson every day and when she received a call from her distraught sister about the murders she flew back immediately to Chicago to identify the bodies of her mother and brother at the morgue. “We were trying everything, anything we could do to get him back,” she said of the $100,000 reward offered for the safe return of King. “It was always me and my Tugga Bear,” she said, using the family’s pet name for King as she fought to retain her composure. The child was found two days after the murders in an abandoned vehicle that prosecutors claim Balfour stole from the scene of the crime. Hudson is expected to attend every day of the trial and was accompanied on the first day by her fianc

‘The Voice’: Adam Levine Sends Home Fan Favorite

Pip and James Massone are sent packing, while Cee Lo performs new Goodie Mob single. By John Mitchell Pip Photo: Fox The quarterfinals continued Monday night (April 23) on “The Voice” with the eight members of Teams Cee Lo and Adam taking the stage to sing for America’s vote, and two contestants were sent home by their judges’ instant eliminations. You know times have changed when Carson Daly — former host of MTV’s teenage staple “TRL” — is the adult in the room, as he was at the start of the show when a little juvenile humor distracted the coaches. After Adam and Cee Lo had a tough time getting through their opening remarks about the seriousness of the competition without laughing, Carson got Cee Lo to confess that the panel was laughing because he was, well, a little gassy. “Well, this is live TV,” Carson observed with what sounded like a little bit of disappointment in his voice. (Right?) The night’s first two performances set the bar high for the rest. First up was favorite Jamar Roger, singing Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life.” While rehearsing the song, Jamar told Cee Lo his “Just a Thought” helped him through an especially hard time in his life, when he was getting clean from drugs and learned he was HIV-positive. The obvious bond between the two made Cee Lo’s words of praise in the theater all the more moving. “I want to pause for a moment and listen to the love,” Cee Lo said to a teary-eyed Rogers of the audience’s wild reaction. “That’s your love.” Katrina Parker, who was saved earlier in the competition by her coach Adam, turned up the glam factor in a purple gown and loose waves for her powerful performance of “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri. (Can you even believe it was only two months ago that we were introduced to a shy insurance office worker?) She sounded great and won raves from each of the judges. Cee Lo agreed with Blake that this performance was like “hearing you for the very first time,” adding, “You look exceptionally beautiful, your voice sounded equally flawless.” Adam summed it up by calling Parker’s performance “flawless.” Cee Lo kicked it old-school right from the beginning with Daly’s black-and-white, ’50s game show host-style intro for his team performance of “Dancing in the Streets.” When the lights came up, Cee Lo and his teammates were inside a vintage TV set before busting out onto a stage lit up with vivid colored polka dots and stripes. Cee Lo even tossed on a wig for the occasion. The weird and cool energy (and colors, come to think of it) was reminiscent of Cee Lo’s Muppet-heavy 2011 Grammy performance of “Forget You,” and every time the camera cut to the other judges, they were eating it up. Mathai’s performance of “I’m Like a Bird” was more notable for Aguilera’s dissing of Adam for not paying enough attention to all elements of his team’s staging — none of the judges, even Adam, cared for an odd bit of choreography — and getting booed for elaborating a little too honestly on how much more she preferred Parker’s performance. Team Cee Lo’s James Massone carried his clean-cut lady killer act a little too far into ’60s boy-band territory, crooning Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are” staged like a teenybopper movie with Massone singing below a girl’s window. Blake and Xtina didn’t love it, but Adam saw what Cee Lo was going for, something “like a young Sinatra, like an old-school heartthrob.” Thankfully, Cee Lo jumped back in to liven things up with his reunited Goodie Mob, performing their new single “Fight to Win.” Just when you thought the performance would be low-key by Cee Lo standards — you know, just the band clad in gold armor and capes, with a set of light-up stairs, pillars and lots of fog — they zoomed in on Cee Lo and his bandmates’ mouths, which lit up bright with some kind of mouthpiece. After Tony Lucca’s last performance, Christina commented that she thought he was coasting on his easy acoustic-rocker style and the bit of celebrity that comes with having co-starred with her on “The Mickey Mouse Club,” and his desire to prove her wrong and “stare down” his “Mickey Mouse” past pushed him to remix Britney Spears’ ” … Baby One More Time” as a rip-roaring rock song. His electric take on Spears’ bubblegum classic won all the judges over, including (finally!) Xtina, who called for an “MMC” reunion and cheered on how he made the song his own. Saved previously by Cee Lo, Cheesa took a risk, performing the late Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing.” Those are big vocal shoes to fill, and she delivered. “You still managed to do your own thing with it,” Christina raved, before declaring, “This week, Team Cee Lo is where it’s at.” Sorry, Adam! Next up, preppy Pip showed off his piano skills with his reliably capable, definitely theatrical (we agree with Adam) but unremarkable performance of “Somewhere Only We Know,” and Juliette Simms’ shredded growl was perfect for Aerosmith’s “Cryin’,” even if the wings she wore weren’t our favorite accessories of the evening. Adam jumped behind the drums for his team’s performance of “Instant Karma,” and unlike the other joint coach/team performances, Levine let his team lead this one. His four remaining contestants took turns with the lead vocal, while Pip played keyboard and Tony strummed his ever-present guitar. But two had to go, leaving Cee Lo and Adam with a tough decision to make. Ever the diplomat, Cee Lo wrote a nice speech for his team, addressing how difficult this is for him and how much he supports each of them and read it off his phone. He decided to send James Massone packing, and the young Boston guy took it pretty well. (But it’s pretty impossible to get mad at Cee Lo, right?) Adam was admittedly less elegant with his words and ultimately decided to send home Pip, who seemed at first a little surprised but bowed out gracefully. What did you think of the eliminations? Dwight “The D Is For D-Bag” Howard Reportedly Refuses To Play Until His Coach Is Fired

Dwight Howard Refuses To Play For Coach Dwight Howard is coming off like a big jerk. According to his sources, Howard is still upset with Van Gundy confirming Pingalore’s report from earlier this month that Howard went to Magic management asking for Van Gundy to be fired. On Friday, the Magic had their physical therapist Ed Manalo travel with Howard to Los Angeles, where Howard went to have his back diagnosed. Dr. Robert Watkins, of Marina del Rey, California, diagnosed Howard with a herniated disk. After visiting Los Angeles, Pingalore’s sources confirmed that Howard was adamant about joining the team in Cleveland but the Magic asked him to return to Orlando. Howard would eventually travel to Cleveland. However, Howard sat in the hotel for the game Sunday evening and rejoined the team as they traveled back to Orlando. “It was strange since that Howard wanted to go to Cleveland and offer support but never made it to the game,” said one of Pingalore’s sources. Howard would also likely sit out the postseason, according to the source. Remember when Dwight was the happy-go-lucky muscular guy with the Superman cape? Now he’s got baby momma issues and is acting like a total hoe on the court. It was all good a week ago. Source More On Bossip! Lil Wayne Signs Four-Album Deal With Cash Money Records

‘I came into the game with Cash Money, and I’m gonna ride it out with my team,’ Wayne says on ‘Hip Hop POV.’ By Nadeska Alexis Lil Wayne Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic Cash Money Records plans to drop approximately 16 albums this year, and at least one of them will come from , who is currently working on two new LPs. But if there was any worry that Weezy would take his future projects elsewhere, the New Orleans rapper confirms that he recently signed another four-album deal with Cash Money. During an interview on the debut episode of MTV’s “Hip Hop POV,” Lil Wayne confirmed that he’s sticking with his team. “Everybody knows I came into the game at 11 years old with Cash Money Records, before we even had a major deal,” Wayne said. “We signed a deal in I don’t remember when, and I been with Cash Money ever since. So if you’re looking for integrity, I am the definition. If you’re looking for a person that’s gonna stay down, I am the definition. If you’re looking for loyalty, I am just that.” Despite a few tumultuous years, Wayne maintains that all is right in the world of YMCMB. “Trust me, there’s been a lot of ups and downs, a lot of downs — all the down way down if you wanna know,” he said. “But I rode it out with my team and I’m gonna ride it out with my team.” I Am Not a Human Being 2, the sequel to Wayne’s 2010 release, is the next project on the horizon, and he’s also at work on an album called Devol, which he wrote during his time in prison. According to Wayne, I Am Not a Human Being 2 will give him the most creative freedom. “Contract-wise, I only get paid for 12 songs. Maybe on a Carter album, you probably only gonna get 12 songs, maybe a bonus 13,” he explained “But on this I Am Not a Human Being thing, I really don’t care. … You’re probably gonna get 16 on there. “The I Am Not a Human Being 2 is more me just being creatively free,” he added. Lamar Odom Had Locker Room Confrontation With Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban During Last Game Poor Khloe… Turns out Lamar is dumber than we thought. Come to find out, this fool was beefin with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban during the last game before Dallas declared him “inactive! “ Lamar Odom clashed with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban during halftime of his final game with the team, it was reported today. Odom, who was placed on the team’s inactive list and can be traded after the postseason ends, reportedly got into a dispute with Cuban in between halves of the Mavericks’ 94-89 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, ESPNDallas.com reported. According to sources, Cuban confronted Odom, asking the reigning Sixth Man of the Year if he was “in or out.” Odom has averaged career lows in points (6.6), rebounds (4.2), assists (1.7), shooting percentage (35.2) and minutes (20.5) after being traded from the Lakers before the season started. Odom was send to the D-League last month. After the altercation, Odom waited until the third quarter had already started to take his seat on the bench. A source told ESPNDallas.com that Odom even coming out for the second half came as a surprise. Page Six reported today that in addition to the poor playing performance, Odom’s family drama and off-court antics led the team to part ways with with 32-year-old forward. “They grew tired of his BS and kicked him to the curb,” an NBA source told Page Six. “[The team] didn’t need someone pouting like a little kid.” Odom was faced with family drama after his father fell ill in February and was involved in a car accident in which is driver struck a motorcyclist which also resulted in the death of a 15-year-old. Anne Hathaway’s Short Hair: ‘Do or Don’t?

Hair today, gone tomorrow. Apparently this awful play on words applies to Anne Hathaway, whose short hair raised eyebrows in London this weekend. Hard at work filming the big screen adaptation of Les Miserables in London, the stunning actress showed off just how much she’s gotten into character. Leaving The Box nightclub with fiance Adam Shulman , Anne debuted a close-cropped, much shorter ‘do – a stark contrast to her usual long brown locks. In Les Miserables , she portrays Fantine, a prostitutewith a terminal case of tuberculosis who is forced to sell her hair in to provide for her daughter, Cosette. She’s also drastically cut calories in an effort to slim down for the role. What do you think of her new hairstyle? Vote for her best look below:

Lamar Odom Leaves Dallas Mavericks, Effective Immediately; Team Retains NBA Star’s Rights

Lamar Odom’s time as a member of the Dallas Mavericks has come to an end. The NBA star left the team today, ending a short and unsuccessful tenure in Big D. According to ESPN, an agreement reached Sunday allows the two sides to part company immediately, without the Mavericks having to officially release Odom. The unusual move means the struggling 13-year veteran is now off the Dallas roster for the remainder of the season, but rights are retained by the Mavericks. The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team,” Odom said in a statement to ESPN. “I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success.” Sources said Odom’s immediate departure allows the Mavs to list him as inactive, but not cut him, leaving open the possibility that they could still trade Odom. Any team that has Odom on its roster as of June 29 must buy him out by that date for $2.4 million or pay the full $8.2 million Odom is set to earn in 2012-13. The Mavs acquired the 13-year veteran before the season started in what looked like a steal of a deal with the L.A. Lakers. Wishful thinking, it turned out. At the time of the trade, the Mavs were thought to have scored a huge coup – the reigning Sixth Man of the Year to help cushion the loss of Tyson Chandler. That vision never materialized, though, as he struggled terribly. As we saw on last night’s Khloe & Lamar , his head, heart and reality show were always in L.A.
