Lena Meyer-Landruth Received A Heroine’s Welcome

The Eurovision winner Lena Meyer-Landruth received a heroine’s welcome when she returned to her country. Her homecoming gave Germany something to cheer about and a break from its mounting worries. The fate of Greece, the future of the euro and Michael Ballacks’ World Cup injury were all forgotten for a few hours yesterday while Lena’s winning entry, Satellite, made it to the top of the music download charts. Now, Lena is prepared to pull-off the most uncommon feats by transforming a Eurovision win into a fully-pledge pop music career. According to Chancellor Angel Merkel, she was impressed by Lena’s unpretentiousness and warmth. She’s a wonderful example of young Germany. Lena is the second German winner in the song contest’s 55-year history. The first German winner was also a teenager named Nicole, and Ein Bisschen Frieden (A Little Peace) in 1982. Meanwhile, Lena has already become the subject of a wide media hype in Germany before the Eurovision. Ford Optimistic on Auto-Industry Sales

Ford Motor Co.’s sales analyst on Friday said the U.S. auto industry will continue its current pace and finish May on track for an annual sales rate of slightly more than 11 million new cars and trucks. April sales finished at an annual rate of 11.2 million vehicles, and industry analyst Edmunds.com has forecast a May rate of 11.4 million. The market will continue its modest recovery in the U.S., Ford’s George Pipas said. Mr. Pipas said he has yet to see any economic movements that would cause an unexpected sales jump. “May is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get month,” Mr. Pipas said. “This is where the consumer is.” He also said auto makers continue to hold off on incentives as they focus on profitability rather than quickly increasing market share. Much like what you can expect at the UFC 114 live stream this weekend. The forecast came on the same day that Ford Chief Executive Alan Mulally sidestepped questions about the auto maker’s plans to kill its slumping Mercury brand. “We have nothing new to add today,” Mr. Mulally said during a meeting with analysts earlier Friday. Mr. Pipas also declined to comment in a meeting with reporters in Detroit. Mr. Mulally and his executives are preparing to ask the auto maker’s board in July to drop the Mercury brand, according to a person familiar with the discussions. Mr. Mulally reportedly has the backing of key Ford family members . Ford executives have publicly supported the brand since 2006, when Mr. Mulally joined the auto maker. Mercury, executives had said, was a brand that appealed to women. Behind the scenes, however, the brand received few new models. Many dealers also support bringing Mercury to an end. Separately, Ford said it continues to work on consolidating its dealer network. Mr. Mulally hasn’t disclosed the target size other than saying his goal is to maker dealers more profitable overall. The focus continues to be on closing some of the weaker dealers in cities where there is a shrinking consumer base. The auto maker had 3,553 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers at the end of 2009. General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC irked dealers last year during their bankruptcies when they presented plans to consolidate their networks. Chrysler cut new-vehicle deliveries to 789 dealerships. About 150 are fighting the move in arbitration hearings. 50 Cent And Tony Yayo Talk Invitation Tour Kickoff

‘I have to keep changing the set so that it’s not the same show every night,’ Fif says of concert video leaking online. By Shaheem Reid Tony Yayo Photo: MTV News 50 Cent comes home Friday night (May 28) when he starts his first tour in more than three years on U.S. soil . G-Unit member Tony Yayo said there’s no way he’s missing the trek. “I’mma go out. I gotta go pick up some money with Fif,” Yayo told MTV News last week about the Invitation Tour. “It’s too easy with this guy. Stop playing with me, Fif. I’mma go out on the U.S. run. I think [Lloyd] Banks is going out. We just doing new things. 50 is so much into the movies; he started paying attention to the music again. He’s so much into the movies, he’s trying to be the next Will Smith. “It’s no place like home,” Yayo added about performing in America. “It’s no place like traveling in the U.S. Overseas is a whole different experience. The U.S. run is going to be great. Our first date is Cleveland. We’re going to Vegas, everywhere.” On Friday, 50 told Cleveland.com that he’ll be refining his stage show throughout the trek. “This tour was designed for me to come back and massage my new ideas on the public,” 50 said. “Because of the technology, there’s no real mystique to your actual performance anymore. After the first show, that’s gonna be on YouTube. So I have to keep changing the set so that it’s not the same show every night. Some of the same staging and production value, but I have to keep changing it. That means more rehearsals in the process, but you offer more than one show. I got so much material, I could actually perform for three hours straight, so it’s easier for me to make the decision to change music than a newer artist that doesn’t have that kind of catalog, where they can keep switching songs to play music that people are going to enjoy.” Expect a live band to be backing the Unit. “I love it,” Yayo said of the instrumentation. “It’s nothing like a live band. Shout-out to my live band in L.A. Instruments, the live band, the guitar, the drums. You feel it, the crowd feels it. What I bring to the table is the energy. Banks is lyrical. 50 has the brains, the smarts. I bring the energy. So when I hear the drums, the bass line, the guitars, the energy level is raised up, versus just having the DJ scratching in the back.” Are you planning to check out the G-Unit on tour? Jack Johnson’s To The Sea: Hear It Now On The Leak!

New album forgoes polished production to remind listeners ‘that it’s humans doing it.’ By James Montgomery Jack Johnson Photo: Bradley Kanaris/ Getty Images Jack Johnson’s To the Sea — available to stream right now on MTV’s The Leak — is an album born out of happy accidents. A flubbed chord here, a stray snare snap there — it’s lively and warm and intimate, sounding very much like a band getting together in a room and just playing. Which was precisely the goal, as Johnson told MTV News earlier this year. “With the technology these days, you can look at music instead of listening to it sometimes,” he said. “You can look and say, ‘Oh yeah, see, the bass drum doesn’t line up with the guitar hit there, let’s move that.’ [And] we tried not to do that on this one. Sometimes, when things don’t line up, it actually makes it them better. You listen to old records, when they didn’t have the capability of cutting things together, that’s the magic of it. … It reminds you that it’s humans doing it.” And Sea is very much a human record, full of crackling instrumentation and Johnson’s ruminations on life, love and spirituality. The title track explores “the archetype of the wild man … deep down in the mind, waiting to be discovered.” First single “You and Your Heart” is about the internal struggle between the heart and the brain — “That area you get in sometimes, where you stop trusting your heart and you start thinking too much,” as Johnson put it. And “At or With Me,” well, it’s just a fun, funky tune, recorded live and left untouched. “That’s a really fun track,” Johnson said. “We did it one time, thinking it was just demo-ing. … It was one take, one time, and that’s the tone on the album.” All in all, there’s a whole lot of energy on To the Sea. But why bother reading about it when you can hear the album for yourself? Though it doesn’t hit stores until June 1, you can hear it right now over on The Leak . Consider it an early, and very human, start to your summer. Share your reviews of Jack Johnson’s To the Sea in the comments below. Related Artists Jack Johnson

Hubble Spotted a Planet-Eating Star

The Hubble Space Telescope has captured evidence of a Sun-like star “eating” a nearby planet. Astronomers knew from the studies conducted that stars are capable of swallowing planets in orbit around them. However, this is the first time that the theory has visual evidence, first time the event has been “seen” so clearly. Hubble’s detection of the cloud enabled scientist to draw conclusions about how it was generated. The discovery was published in the “The Astrophysical Journal Letters.” Even though the planet was too far away for Hubble to take a picture of it, scientists used the analysis of the telescope’s data to create an image of it. According to the researchers, the planet is called Wasp-12 and it only has 10 million years left before it will be completely consumed. It is so close to its star that it completes an orbit in 1.1 Earth days and is superheated to more than 1,500C. The planet Wasp-12 is a dwarf star located more or less 600 light-years away in the constellation Auriga. Hubble Spotted a Planet-Eating Star is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading
