Farrah Abraham Admits Drug Use, Depression, Suicide Plan in New Book

Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham recently felt so depressed that she considered suicide, she admitted in an interview while promoting her new book. “All I could think about was killing myself,” she says, and she even mapped out some specifics. “I figured I would drown myself in the bathtub.” “That seemed like the easiest way to go.” In My Teenage Dream Ended , the now-21-year-old single mother says her lowest point occurred two years after her daughter Sophia’s birth. Raising Sophia alone, coupled with the tragic death of her ex, Derek Underwood, in a car accident when she was pregnant, was too much to bear. “We hadn’t spoken in more than two months,” Farrah says about her ex-boyfriend, “but crazily I had still hoped we had a future together.” Before she was diagnosed with clinical depression, Farrah Abraham says she coped with her issues via alcohol, cocaine and marijuana abuse. Only after therapy and medication is she ” back on track .” “I was being selfish,” she says. “The most important thing is making sure that [Sophia’s] well taken care of – how am I going to do that if I’m dead?” A fair point. One that Amber Portwood , who’s allegedly tried to take her own life as well, should consider as she serves out her prison sentence.

Katy Perry Hopes ‘Part Of Me’ Is ‘An Inspiration’ To Fans

‘When they see it, they are like, ‘Oh, yeah, she goes through some sh– too,’ ‘ Perry tells MTV News at Hollywood premiere. By Christina Garibaldi Katy Perry at the “Part of Me” premiere Photo: HOLLYWOOD — Katy Perry couldn’t have picked a better way to bring her Teenage Dream era to a close. The pop star shut down Hollywood Boulevard for the premiere of her much-anticipated 3-D documentary “Part of Me.” She hit the pink carpet at the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theatre looking old Hollywood glam in a strapless red velvet dress complete with purple hair. After hitting the carpet — alongside Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen and Victoria Justice — Perry wowed thousands of her KatyCats, giving them a special concert. The 3-D film is a diary of the past year for Perry, who has experienced many highs but also some very personal lows, most notably her split from ex-husband Russell Brand . MTV News caught up with Perry on the pink carpet, where she said that even though this movie reveals many difficult moments, she didn’t necessarily find that it helped her cope with the situation. But she hopes it acts as an inspiration to her fans. “I wouldn’t say it’s so therapeutic, because the movie is so well-rounded with so many different things,” Perry said. “I guess some of it is just hopefully an inspiration for people. When they see it, they are like, ‘Oh, yeah, she goes through some sh– too. I can’t dodge life’s curve balls if Katy Perry can’t dodge life’s curve balls.’ ” Perry hit the stage by busting out of a giant popcorn tub wearing a film-reel bustier, which she paired with a red-and-white skirt. Perry re-created her California Dreams Tour, playing all her hit songs including “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and “Firework” before fans were treated to the world premiere of “Part of Me,” which hits theaters July 5. Katy Perry Breaks Silence On Divorce

‘There were times when what was going on in my personal life was so overwhelming,’ Perry says in a new interview. By Gil Kaufman Katy Perry on the cover of Hollywood Reporter Photo: Katy Perry has been mum on the details of her divorce
from Russell Brand. But in a new cover story in the Hollywood Reporter Perry gives a peek into the difficulty she faced in the split, as well as her plans to launch her own record label. ‘There were times when what was going on in my personal life was so overwhelming that I had to bend over to let those tears fall straight out of my eyes and not my false lashes just as I’m about to go up on that ramp and sing ‘Teenage Dream,'” she said. Speaking in advance of the release of her 3D concert documentary, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,”
the 27-year-old pop singer said it’s impossible for anyone else to know what went on inside her brief marriage to the British comedian. “Nobody knows what really happened except the two people who are in it.” Part of her vision for the movie was to document her relationship with Brand as it crumbled just as her career was launching into the stratosphere with a record-breaking string of hit singles from Teenage Dream . That kind of honesty was in keeping with her heart-on-sleeve method of writing songs and she said, “Honesty has always worked for me … so if it ain’t broke, why f—ing fix it?” After putting up $2 million of her own money to make “Part of Me” a reality, Perry and her team are expecting the movie to have an opening to rival Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” $30 million first weekend. First, though, she had to convince her nervous business manager that it was worth dropping the cash to film her November 2011 concert at Los Angeles’ Staples Center in 3D. “I was like, ‘Please trust me,'” she said she told him. “That’s kind of been the mantra I’ve said to everyone my whole life: ‘Trust me, I have a vision.'” That same vision came into play in the recently released video for “Wide Awake,” which Perry wrote for the film and which ends with a shot of her triumphantly ascending to the stage during her smash California Dreams Tour. Regardless of how the movie does, the relentlessly drive Perry has other business ventures in mind, including launching her own record imprint. Her as-yet-unnamed label will help give struggling artists a hand up in the same way that some music industry folks took a chance on Perry early on. “When it does come to fruition, I’m going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success,” she said. “As people are coming to me with opportunities, I’m thinking, ‘How would I want to be treated?'” Check out everything we’ve got on “Katy Perry: Part of Me.”

Katy Perry’s ‘Wide Awake’ Video: Five Key Scenes

In her new clip, Katy mixes the fantastical with the autobiographical, and MTV News is here to break down the most important moments. By James Montgomery Katy Perry in her “Wide Awake” music video Photo: Katy Perry closes the book on the Teenage Dream era with her new “Wide Awake” video, a classically creepy (yet slightly candy-colored), Lewis-Carroll indebted fairy tale that doesn’t shy away from mixing the fantastical with the autobiographical. Which means it’s a treat for both fans and armchair analysts alike. And while you could spend an afternoon sifting through various scenes to understand their deeper significance (minotaur hospital attendants = critics who hated “The Smurfs”?), we figured it would be easier to just highlight a few key moments for you right now. So, for your perusal, here are five important moments form Katy’s “Wide Awake” video, each rife with psychological meaning. Or, you know, cool imagery. Same diff. Katy Pushes Back : After literally going through the looking glass, Katy arrives in an eerie labyrinth, one we’re pretty sure represents the constraints of celebrity. Tellingly, as soon as she enters, the walls begin closing in on her — only, rather than be crushed, Katy draws on her Samson-like inner-strength (and summons the same kind of pyrotechnics we saw in her “Firework” video) and sends the walls reeling. The message seems clear: Nobody puts Katy in a corner. Katy Meets Her Former Self : Early in her journey, Katy comes face to face with a young girl who clearly represents her former innocence (just in case it wasn’t clear, we later see the same girl get on a bike with a vanity plate that reads “KATHERYN”). With the trappings of fame comes the longing for simpler times, and Lil Katy helps guide her grown-up self through her perilous voyage — and even helps save her. Clearly, nostalgia is a powerful thing. Katy’s World Crumbles : After being hounded by pesky paparazzi, Katy’s entire fantasy world begins to fall apart. It’s a testament to the fact that, no matter how amazing a celeb’s life may seem from the outside, the constant glare of the spotlight is enough to bring even the most famous down. After the encounter, Perry is left debilitated, confined to a wheelchair and unable to defend herself. Luckily for her, Lil Katy is there to protect her. Katy Makes Her Escape : She powers past those naysayers and finally makes it to the exit of the labyrinth. Clearly, this is meant to show that no matter how tough things get, Katy is tougher, and, with her former self in tow, she bolts for the door — out of the madness and into (presumably) greener pastures. Katy Punches Prince Charming : It’s the scene everyone’s talking about, and it’s pretty clear who the disingenuous prince is meant to represent (here’s a hint: it rhymes with “Bussell Rand”). At first, she’s smitten, but, as her suitor goes in for a kiss, Katy spies him crossing his fingers behind his back — and responds with a pretty nifty right cross of her own. The impact is made even better by the “Oh damn! ” expression that crosses Lil Katy’s face. And with that, our fairy tale reaches its happy ending, with Katy surviving unscathed and ready for whatever comes next. What did you think of Katy’s latest video? Let us know in the comments! Katy Perry Calls ‘Wide Awake’ A ‘Dose Of Reality’

Singer debuts music video for her ‘Part of Me 3-D’ track and sits down for an exclusive interview with MTV.com. By Amy Wilkinson, with reporting by Sway Calloway Katy Perry Photo: Katy Perry — consummate California Gurl and queen of cotton-candy pop — has a dark side, and she’s revealing it in her latest music video, for “Wide Awake.” The chanteuse stopped by MTV News on Monday (June 18) to debut the clip for her “Katy Perry: Part of Me” track (the song was written specifically for her upcoming 3-D concert movie), in addition to sitting down for a wide-ranging 30-minute interview with Sway Calloway on MTV.com. Of course, Perry’s litter of KatyCats had plenty of questions for the singer, and she was more than happy to oblige. Madeline from Michigan asked via video what Perry wanted fans to feel while listening to her latest hit. “Well, this song, I have a lot of different emotions and feelings in all of my songs,” Perry revealed. “This song in particular is a dose of reality. It’s kind of like coming down from a high. You’ve been on cloud nine for so long, and it can’t always be so sweet and sometimes you need to realize that, and you have to pick yourself up and move forward and face the facts of life and know that this is just a lesson you learn and you’re stronger because of it.” The video opens with Perry wrapping production on her earlier Snoop Dogg collaboration, “California Gurls.” We see her retreat to her dressing room, where she removes her candy-colored wig and is suddenly transported into a sort of gothic fairy tale, where she’s left to navigate a dizzying maze alongside her younger self. It’s a bit of a departure for the Teenage Dream songstress, but not a surprising one considering the year she’s had, including her divorce from comedian Russell Brand , whom she was married to for more than a year. Yet, as the video concludes, Perry emerges from the labyrinth unscathed and without the help of Prince Charming (in fact, she punches him out), and it’s clear Katy is going to be all right on her own. “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” the 3-D concert movie, hits theaters July 5. Video premieres Tuesday, June 19, on MTV. By Kara Warner Katy Perry in her video for “Wide Awake” Photo: Capitol Attention, Katy Cats! Are you dying to see Katy Perry ‘s new video for her latest hit single, “Wide Awake”? We have some very good news for you in the form of a special sneak peek. Perry has just dropped a trailer for the clip, and we are happy to report that it is 82 seconds of expert teasery. The 1 minute, 22 second trailer opens in a “Secret Garden”-type setting, with a shot of the back of a young, dark-haired girl surrounded by foliage. She’s standing looking at an old table, which is covered by overgrown plants and vines. Suddenly, the debris is whisked away to reveal a dusty old book. The young girl begins turning the pages of the book, which reveal different chapters, with each one highlighted by a photo from a previous Perry video. Stills from “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” “Last Friday Night” and “The One That Got Away” all make for separate chapters in the book. When the girl turns the page to reveal “The Final Chapter,” we start to see pictures from “Wide Awake” that seem to indicate we’ll be whisked into a fairy tale of some sort that naturally has Perry playing our heroine and/or possible princess. The other characters and plot points involved in the tale involve a poisoned strawberry, a curious cat, Prince Charming and a young girl — the very one we’ve been watching turning the pages of the book. The teaser ends with the young girl waving at herself in the book, after which she closes it to reveal the tome’s title: “Wide Awake: The Final Chapter From Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection,” and the premiere date of the video, June 19, which we’re very happy to unveil on MTV. ‘Firework’ singer will be joined by Kenny Chesney on the NBC special, ahead of her ‘Part of Me’ film release. She’ll be joined by Kenny Chesney when it all goes down on Independence Day at 9 p.m. ET. In addition to dazzling performances from Katy and Kenny, the show will also include 25 minutes of fireworks magic composed of 40,000 pyrotechnic shells. “NBC is thrilled to have Katy Perry and Kenny Chesney join us in celebrating America’s birthday,” Doug Vaughan, senior vice president of NBC Entertainment’s Special Programs and Late Night, said in a statement about the 36th installment of the annual special taking place in New York City. “These stars’ powerful voices and stage presence will serve as the perfect complement to Macy’s captivating visual artistry.” The performance couldn’t come at a more perfect time for Perry, who will release her 3-D concert film, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” on July 5. In addition to the film, Perry also recently shot a music video for her Teenage Dream: The Complete Confession track, “Wide Awake.” “It’s the most intimate I’ve ever been,” she told MTV News about the movie . “I mean that in a non-sexual way … I mean it in a vulnerable way.
