This just in: Adele had a very good 2011. Adele – Rolling in the Deep (Live Performance) “21” is on pace to be the the first album to sell five million copies in 12 months since Usher’s “Confessions” in 2004. The top seven released so far include the Kardashian family , who continue to captivate TV audiences and the rumor mill thanks to several TV franchises and their headline-making relationships (babies, divorce and everything in between). Pop superstar Katy Perry also will be featured on the special. After releasing her album Teenage Dream last year, she managed to break chart records this year with hits like “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and “E.T.” She also released several memorable videos and hit the road on her California Dreams Tour. Wednesday night, Perry was nominated for several Grammy Awards , including Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her single “Firework.” Simon Cowell also landed on the list. Just as Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” is one of the more bittersweet-sounding singles to be released from Teenage Dream when compared to, say, “California Gurls” or “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”, the video looks to be one of the darkest from this era of the singer’s career. Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” Video: Watch The Trailer

Katy Perry, Diego Luna Break Up In ‘One That Got Away’ Tease

Preview clip for Perry’s Teenage Dream ballad hints at ‘11.11.11’ release date. By Jocelyn Vena Diego Luna and Katy Perry in “The One That Got Away” music video Photo: Jive For anyone wondering who Katy Perry is pining over on her song “The One That Got Away,” it seems the video may have the answer. The songstress has enlisted Mexican movie star Diego Luna to play the male lead. In a teaser posted by the singer, Luna and Perry embrace and share longing looks and some flirty moments as a voice narrates the story. “The past is like a handful of dust,” the voice-over says. “It filters through your fingers, disappearing little by little.” Of course, it’s not all romantic: As a car zooms down a highway, a montage of the good and the bad times — there’s fighting and Luna leaving Perry behind — helps tease a bit more about Perry and Luna’s love affair. “I wish, for one day, I could go back,” the voice-over continues, “In another life, I would do things differently.” At the end of the preview, the date “11/11/11” flashes, signifying a possible release date for the video. (A rep for the singer hadn’t responded to MTV News’ request for confirmation by press time.) “I’m so pleased to select ‘The One That Got Away’ as my sixth single because this song shows a very different side of me that I haven’t shown with my past singles on this record. I think that everyone can relate to this song,” Perry has previously said about the Teenage Dream ballad. “I wrote this song about when you promise someone forever, but you end up not being able to follow through. It’s a bittersweet story — hopefully, the listener learns from hearing it and never has to say they had ‘The One’ get away.” It’s certainly an on-trend video idea to use sweeping story lines to help shape the visual elements of tracks about the ups and downs of love. Joe Jonas made a similar move for his Parisian-set clip for “Just in Love With You” and Rihanna also explored Some more serious story lines for her racy “We Found Love” clip. Katy Perry Picks ‘The One That Got Away’ As Next Single

Song will be the sixth single from 2010’s Teenage Dream. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ Getty Images Katy Perry isn’t ready to let the Teenage Dream era go. She’s readying her sixth single from the album, the sentimental midtempo track “The One That Got Away.” Billboard reports that the singer’s label has confirmed the track’s release. Of the decision to release another song from the album, Greg Thompson, an EMI Music/Capitol Records EVP/marketing and promotion rep, told the mag, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” Boasting production and writing credits from Dr. Luke and Max Martin (with a co-writing assist from Perry herself), the track is all about her first love. On the track’s chorus, she pines, “In another life, I would be your girl/ We keep all our promises, be us against the world/ And in another life, I would make you stay/ So I don’t have to say you were the one that got away.” While she’s a pop princess, Perry also calls out her love for artists like Radiohead and Johnny Cash on the song, which appears to be about another musician. “Someone said you had your tattoo removed,” she sings. “Saw you downtown singing the blues/ It’s time to face the music/ I’m no longer your muse.” The track will hit radio next month. So far, Perry’s already found plenty of success with her previous five Teenage Dream singles, with every one topping the chart. The California Gurl matched Michael Jackson’s record with the feat, and if this track should also go to #1, she would best the King of Pop. The label added that Luke may “touch up” the track for the radio and that Perry is “reading treatments” for a video. “If it goes to #1, that would be great,” Thompson told Billboard. “If not, we still have a Katy song on the radio in fourth quarter.” What is your favorite Teenage Dream single? Sebastian Bach’s Home Flooded By Hurricane Irene

Death toll from weekend’s storm rises to 40, as flooding continues in some East Coast states. By Gil Kaufman Sebastian Bach Photo: FilmMagic With the death toll from Hurricane Irene rising to 40, five million homes in the dark as of Monday and towns up and down the East Coast still struggling to hold back floodwaters, the cleanup from the storm is expected to take weeks, if not months. One of the people who will have to put the pieces back together is Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach , whose New Jersey home was destroyed by flooding from the hurricane. The 43-year-old hair-metal vocalist lamented the loss in a lengthy Facebook post, in which he said that not only was the dwelling destroyed, but also that the storm had taken away some one-of-a-kind rock artifacts. “I am numb, in shock, & devastated to report that my home of 21 years, my house featured on ‘MTV Cribs,’ has been destroyed, condemned, & deemed uninhabitable due to the extreme flooding courtesy of Hurricane Irene,” Bach wrote. “In the 2 decades I have lived in this home, there has never been a single drop of water in the basement or anywhere else in the structure. Now Irene has overflowed the reservoir adjacent to my house. The surging waters have snapped the bridge in half next to my house & sent the bridge straight into my garage, knocking the house off of its foundation.” Bach said he was told he could not pump the water out due to fears of electrocution. Among the “irreplaceable” items lost: KISS Gargoyles from the 1979 tour, a KISS pinball machine, Skid Row master tapes, master tapes from Oh Say Can You Scream and “boxes & boxes” of original Skid Row memorabilia, from the band’s first tour to their most recent that Bach said no one else had. “I had a library in the basement with every single magazine that had Skid Row on the cover,” he lamented. “This library took up a big part of the basement. All of this is lost now. We will salvage what we can of course. But how I wish there was a reason to do a box set or something before Hurricane Irene hit. Nobody cared. Now it’s too late. Don’t know what you got till it’s gone, indeed.” Some of his other treasures, such as his father’s artwork — including a 16-foot tall mural from the band’s Slave to the Grind album, were safe after being moved upstairs, but Bach said he hasn’t been allowed back in the house yet to assess the damage because the foundation had “crumbled” and the structure could collapse at any time. “This has really taught me that the best things in life are indeed ‘free,’ ” he concluded. “What makes me happy is that my children & ex wife are safe. My dad’s art is unharmed. No one got hurt. My scrapbooks of memories of my life are dry & safe.” And, after 25 years of calling New Jersey home, Bach said he’s packing it in and permanently moving West. “I will always love New Jersey, but now there is literally nothing left for me here except memories of a past life,” he said. “Hello, Los Angeles. Hello, New Life. Here I am. It’s time for a new start. Like I have a choice.” Related Artists Sebastian Bach

Katy Perry Explains Why VMAs Are ‘Funnest’ Show

‘You just want to watch a spectacle, you want to watch what goes down,’ Video of the Year winner tells MTV News. Katy Perry: From VMA Rookie To VMA Royalty

This year’s top nominee has yet to win a Moonman, but she did nab a husband! By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Steve Granitz/ FilmMagic At Sunday’s VMAs , one very kooky, colorful California Gurl is poised to rule the night: Katy Perry tops the nominees with a whopping nine nods for “E.T.,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “Teenage Dream” and “Firework.” “It’s always exciting to be a part of the VMAs because there’s so much spontaneity,” she told MTV News. “I just remember growing up seeing craziness ensued with the VMAs. I wasn’t allowed to see it, but I done watched it!” While Perry has yet to win a Moonman, the show has played an important role in her career and personal life in other interesting ways. Let’s take a look back at Perry’s short-but-memorable history with the Video Music Awards and look forward to what she can expect Sunday night: 2008 Kinga Burza, the director of Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” video , warned MTV News that the up-and-coming pop star would soon be a force to be reckoned with. “She’s fresh, original, intelligent and talented, with a star-like charisma, which will have boys and girls all around the world cooing for more,” Burza said. And she was right. Perry made her VMA debut that year, singing along with the night’s house band, Travis Barker and the late DJ AM . That night, “I Kissed a Girl” was up for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Female Video and Best New Artist. She went home empty-handed, but the show was the first time (and certainly not the last) that she and host Russell Brand crossed paths. 2009 The VMAs returned to New York City, and Perry had become a household name. She was nominated for Best Female Video for “Hot n Cold” and opened the show with a rocking performance of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” alongside Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry. Although she didn’t take any prizes home, she did manage to nab Brand , who hosted the show for a second year. Perry said she saw a different side of the comedian during and after the show. “I really appreciate his sense of humor,” she explained. “It’s real dark, it’s real wrong and it’s really funny.” Explore our “Katy Perry: By The Numbers” infographic: 2010 Perry hit the white-hot VMA carpet in Los Angeles, and was by then one of the biggest pop stars in the world. Her relationship with Brand had escalated to an engagement, and her sweet and sassy “California Gurls” video , featuring Snoop Dogg, was nominated for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video. “I like the idea of this being like a board game,” she said of the video in 2009. “It’s kind of like Candy Land. That was probably one of my favorite games to play growing up. I like to bring back those pure childhood moments and give them a little bit of a naughty twist, of course.” 2011 Perry is coming up on her fourth VMA appearance, and this could finally be her year. She’s back in her home state of California, she’s tied the knot with Brand, and she’s broken all sorts of records with the songs from her Teenage Dream album , including becoming the first female artist with five #1 singles from the same album. Considering she’s up for hardware in categories like best Female Video (“Firework”), Video of the Year (“Firework”) and Best Collaboration (“E.T.”) featuring Kanye West, to name a few, her chances of bringing home a Moonman or two are looking good. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Jay-Z, Kanye West Hold Onto Billboard Throne

Watch the Throne stays at #1, despite 59 percent drop in sales. By Aly Semigran Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images After an impressive debut week on the Billboard 200 chart, Kanye West and Jay-Z ‘s collaborative effort Watch the Throne, will once again sit at the top. Adding to the 436,000 copies they sold last week, the hip-hop dynamos moved another 177,000 this week, bringing their current total to 613,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures. While the Throne won’t get bragging rights to 2011’s biggest first-week seller on the Billboard charts (that honor still belongs to Lady Gaga), they successfully beat Coldplay’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends record for one-week sales on iTunes. And needless to say, they’ve claimed the #1 spot on iTunes once again. Though the second week of Watch the Throne saw a 59 percent drop in sales, it was enough to hold off chart newcomers. None of the week’s debuts saw six-digit sales, and only two will crack the top 10: Life at Best from country’s Eli Young Band at #6 (35,000) and the latest “Twilight” soundtrack favorite Blue October , Any Man in America at #8 (27,000). Other notable newcomers include rockers Breaking Benjamin ‘s Shallow Bay: The Best of Breaking Benjamin at #22 (14,000) and actor Jeff Bridges ‘ self-titled record, which places at #25 (13,000). The rest of this week’s top 10: Adele ‘s 21, (#2, 80,000), Now That’s What I Call Music 39 (#3, 63,000), Luke Bryan ‘s Tailgates & Tanlines (#4, 53,000), Jason Aldean ‘s My Kinda Party (#5, 37,000), Eric Church ‘s Chief (#7, 31,000), Beyonc

Katy Perry Ties Michael Jackson Singles Record

‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ marks Perry’s fifth #1 single from Teenage Dream, equal only to MJ’s Bad achievement. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic Back in June, Katy Perry was closing in on Michael Jackson ‘s record for the most #1 singles from the same album — and now she’s tied it up. Thanks to the feel-good party jam “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” Perry has the same number of #1 singles from Teenage Dream on the Hot 100 as the late King of Pop did from 1987’s Bad. Now, Perry is both the only woman with five #1 singles from the same album and also the only living artist with that record. So what singles got her there aside from “Last Friday Night”? Perry’s previous #1’s from Teenage Dream are “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework” and “E.T.” Jackson achieved this feat back in 1987 and 1988 with “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana” from his Bad album. “What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song ‘LAST FRIDAY NIGHT’ is officially #1 & made HISTORY!” the singer tweeted Wednesday (August 17). “&u know, I couldn’t have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG… so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu.” Explore our “Katy Perry: By The Numbers” infographic: Perry broke another singles record earlier this month, having the first album from the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart to have five #1 singles. Perry’s Teenage Dream album is the first in the nearly 19-year history of the chart to accomplish that feat. “Last Friday Night” has proven to be another successful track for the star, and the party anthem recently got an assist from Missy Elliott on the remix . Perry’s Teenage Dream videos have also been cultural smashes. For the 2011 Video Music Awards , Perry racked up the most nominations with nine, including nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for “Firework”; Best Pop Video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”; and Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects for the Floria Sigismondi-directed “E.T.,” which features fellow nominee Kanye West. Her dreamy “Teenage Dream” clip even nabbed a nomination for Best Cinematography. What’s your favorite Teenage Dream single? Let us know in the comments below!
