Mr. Insanity himself Shaun T just announced he and his husband Scott Blokker are expecting twins! Shaun made the announcement via Instagram over the weekend: “I wanted to tell people a long time ago because I like to live in the emotion of the excitement, but because our journey has been so long, hard and emotionally draining, Scott wanted to wait to protect me from the possibility of another let down,” he explains to PEOPLE of the events leading up to the announcement. “I decided that I wouldn’t push the issue and wait for Scott to decide when it was time for us,” Shaun T adds. “So he came home one day and said, ‘I think I’m ready to tell our fans.’ I was super excited and relieved. We love simple but effective and emotional announcements, and so a poem with flash cards was the perfect plan.” The couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on Thursday — and when it comes to their children on the way, Shaun T says another date this year was extremely special. “We found out on my birthday, May 2,” he tells PEOPLE. “I knew we would get a result, but because we have been on the roller coaster before, I just said to myself, ‘It’s gonna be a great day or a greater day.’ We were on the tennis court too!” “We knew the pregnancy results would be coming mid-morning, so we wanted to just try to pretend like it was any other normal day, since we had been through this day 11 times before,” recalls Shaun T, 39. “We got a text in the middle of our practice, called our surrogate and were told the beyond-incredible news.” “We were flying home from a work trip talking about when and how we would announce it,” says Shaun T, noting that the couple’s surrogate will be 28 weeks pregnant on Monday. “We wanted to keep it simple [and] fun but also talk about how struggle is real, and if you keep your focus and never give up, your dreams will come true,” he insists. “Our journey to have a family is the essence of that.” Aw, that was pretty heartwarming riiiight? Sounds like they really have had some disappointments during this journey but we are glad to hear things finally worked out. Praying the babies are healthy and all goes well from here on out!
You know how Serena Williams is pregnant with her first child ? Well, she was pregnant — because she went into labor today. And now the greatest athlete in the world has given birth! Serena Williams is arguably the most accomplished athlete in the world. It always warms the cockles of our hearts when we see people congratulate Olympians on being “the best in the world” and they correct their interviewers by pointing out that Serena Williams holds that title. But even superstar athletes get pregnant, folks. Serena actually announced her pregnancy by accident over Snapchat. She’s a Millennial, but not of the Kylie Jenner age-group, and Snapchat has a way of making a lot of Generation Y feel hauntingly old (I’m speaking from experience, here), so accidents happen. Apparently she just “hit the wrong button,” and delivered good news to the whole world a little earlier than she and her fiance, Alexis Ohanian , had planned. Serena Williams’ friends have already gushed about what an amazing mom she’ll be , and it looks like Serena’s chance to prove that starts today. Us Weekly is reporting that Serena Williams gave birth ! The tennis champion welcomed her first child, a baby girl, into the world today, September 1st. This is exciting news and we’re still waiting for her to announce it herself, but this is a big deal. We’d already heard that she’d gone into labor, but labor can last minutes or hours and hours and hours. (The worst case scenario is days , but we think that most hospitals usually intervene before it comes to that these days) For the moment, we don’t know that much more than that Serena has given birth. She’s not usually a shy one — think of that Serena Williams nude photoshoot — but we can absolutely understand someone being overwhelmed at the birth of their first child. The Grand Slam is one of the four biggest tennis tournaments in existence. Up until now, only three mothers have ever won it. In the last four decades, only tennis champion of that caliber has also been a mother. Kim Clijsters won the 2005 U.S. Open, then wnet on a hiatus for most of 2007 through 2009 when she got married and had a baby. But then she came right back and then won the 2009 and 2010 U.S. Opens. Serena Williams is the best in the world. If she wants to, she’ll join that very select club of champion moms. But Serena is already a champion, and she has nothing to prove. (Though that’s never stopped her before) While she’s been an empowering public figure for women everywhere as an athlete, it’s amazing for representation purposes that Serena Williams has also become a mom. Not all women want to be mothers, and not all women have to become mothers. But while being amazing at your job and being amazing at parenting are both accomplishments, being amazing at both is something that people don’t see enough. Athleticism is too often divorced in people’s minds from femininity and nurturing, but Serena’s out there smashing stereotypes. We’re very excited. Compton’s serve-crushing tennis baller is set to play in the 2017 Wimbledon finals after defeating Johanna Konta in the semis according to BBC Sports . Unlike some of Serena’s competitors (looking at you shady azz Maria Sharapova ), Johanna bowed down gracefully and kissed Venus’ ring for wearing that azz out on the court: “It was very difficult for me to get a good foothold in the match,” she said. “The few opportunities that I did get, she did incredibly well to take them away from me. “I don’t think I did too much wrong out there. I think it was all credit to her.” As we’ve reported, Venus was involved in a fatal car accident in Florida that resulted in an elderly man’s death. The police initially stated that the accident and subsequent fatality was Venus’ fault, but she was recently cleared of any wrongdoing. Getty Images Venus Williams Gets Protective Order Against Barson Family Venus Williams just won a protective court order against the family of Jerome Barson . Recently the family brought a wrongful death case against the tennis star, claiming she is liable for damages after the car crash which led to his death. According to The Daily Mail, Williams won the first legal round in the court case over the death, gaining an emergency protective order against the Barsons. The reports doesn’t specify the reason behind Williams’ speedy protective motion. Maybe it’s a preemptive measure to protect herself? Venus has yet to file her response to the wrongful death lawsuit that was filed by Barson’s family on June 30.The family of the 78-year-old is suing Venus Williams claiming she is liable for his death after a car crash in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on June 9. Unfortunately, police determine Venus was to blame for the fatal crash.
