‘Hunger Games’ Star Liam Hemsworth: What’s Next?

Two films with Dwayne Johnson, a Vietnam War romance and ‘The Expendables 2’ are in the Aussie actor’s future. By Fallon Prinzivalli Liam Hemsworth Photo: MTV News With “The Hunger Games” slaughtering its competition at the box office this past weekend, everyone’s eyes are locked on the movie’s three main stars to see what’s next. For those of you who loved Liam Hemsworth ‘s short but sweet scenes as Katniss Everdeen’s best friend, Gale, you’re in luck. While we’re sure the Aussie actor is enjoying the benefits of working hard on the film, he’s not sitting around waiting to film the sequel. He has quite a few other films in the works. Here’s a list of what to look forward to from the youngest Hemsworth brother. First on the list is his role as Bill “the Kid” Timmons, the newest addition to Sylvester Stallone’s team, in “The Expendables 2.” Mr. Church, played by Bruce Willis, enlists the Expendables for a job that seems like an easy paycheck. But when a member of the crew is brutally murdered, the Expendables seek revenge and find themselves on enemy turf with an unexpected threat looming over their heads. Also returning to the movie are Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Terry Crews. Yu Nan joins Hemsworth as another of the team’s newcomers in the film, which is set to release on August 17. After watching Hemsworth battle it out in that action flick, you can catch him in a different type of warring film titled “AWOL.” Based on a true story, the film follows a young Vietnam soldier who returns home to the States in search of his newly ex-girlfriend. Austin Stowell plays the broken-hearted soldier, Joiner, and Aimee Teegarden plays Juniper, his high school sweetheart. Hemsworth stars as Joiner’s best friend, Wright, who accompanies him on the risky journey. The backdrop of the film, which will be released later this year, is the anti-war movement at the University of Michigan. Josh Hutcherson isn’t the only ‘Hunger Games’ actor who may be working with Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson. Next year, Hemsworth will star alongside the wrestler-turned-actor in “Empire State.” Also based on a true story, the movie follows a plan set in motion by two childhood friends (one of whom will be played by Hemsworth) to rob an armored car depository. Johnson plays a NYPD officer who attempts to stop the cash heist, and Emma Roberts joins the cast as a waitress who takes interest in Hemsworth’s character. Then, in 2014, Johnson and Hemsworth will reunite for “Arabian Nights.” The tale weaves together some of our favorite adventures as a young commander named Ali Baba (Hemsworth) teams up with Sinbad (Johnson), Aladdin and Aladdin’s genie in order to rescue Scheherazade and her kingdom from the dark forces of a sorcerer. And, of course, you will see Hemsworth reprise his role as Gale Hawthorne in the November 22, 2013 release of “Catching Fire.” Gale will be in the picture more often this time around, and we’re excited to see how Hemsworth develops the character. Justin Bieber In Hot Water After Phone Number Prank

After Bieber allegedly tweeted nine digits of a Texas phone number, two local residents are threatening legal action. By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Earlier this month, Justin Bieber decided to have a little fun with his 19 million Twitter followers when he posted a mysterious phone number and told them “call me right now.” In the tweet — which has since been deleted (but can be seen here … with the number blocked out) — Bieber included just nine digits of a Texas number, leaving the true Beliebers to figure out the rest … which, not surprisingly, caused some headaches for folks who had similar numbers. And now, two of them reportedly have threatened legal action. According to TMZ , a pair of Texas residents (a woman named Dilcie and a man named Kent) have hired an attorney, claiming that since the tweet, their phones have been ringing non-stop. And they’re seeking compensation from Bieber for his “reckless” behavior. The attorney tells the site that her clients received more than 1,000 phone calls from Bieber fans, at all hours of the day, and their patience “wears thin.” So they’re looking for restitution, which could come in any number of forms: An apology from JB himself, concert tickets for Dilcie’s grandchildren, an endorsement for Kent’s “upcoming online project,” or — of course — cold, hard cash. Kent, who doesn’t want his last name to be revealed, subsequently told ABC News that he’s had his number for 20 years, and he doesn’t want to change it just because of Bieber. Of course, there is a question about whether Justin’s initial tweets were even authentic, or if his account was somehow hacked. A spokesperson for the singer did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Related Artists Justin Bieber

Mitt Romney Wins Decisive Victory In Illinois Primary

Romney beat Rick Santorum by double digits in Tuesday’s primary. By Gil Kaufman Mitt Romney at his Illinois primary night party Photo: AFP Mitt Romney strung together two solid victories in a row on Tuesday night when he pulled off a decisive win in the Illinois presidential primary, the latest in a series of “must-win” contests in the GOP race to the White House. The former Massachusetts Governor is likely to pull in at least 41 of the 54 delegates at stake following his win over rival Rick Santorum, who he beat by a 47 to 35 percent margin. The other two candidates in the race, Texas congressman Ron Paul and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich hardly campaigned in the state and came in a distant third and fourth, with, respectively, 9 and 8 percent of the vote. “We thank the people of Illinois for this extraordinary victory,” Romney said to supporters gathered in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, according to CNN. “Elections are about choices. Today, hundreds of thousands of people in Illinois joined millions of people in this country in this cause.” If he gets 41 delegates, Romney’s total to date is 562, which puts him halfway toward the goal of 1,144 needed to clinch the GOP nomination. Once again, he turned his attention away from his fellow candidates an onto President Obama in his victory speech, saying, “It’s time to say this word: enough. We’ve had enough … We know our future’s brighter than these troubled times. We still believe in America, and we deserve a president who believes in us, and I believe in the American people.” Romney was feeling bullish after his huge victory in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico on Saturday, where he took more than 83 percent of the vote and likely all 20 delegates. Pundits said he needed a solid victory in Obama’s former home state in order to tamp down the growing buzz about the potential for a contested GOP convention in August should he fail to get enough delegates to close the deal before then. Though he had a rough week — which included gaffes in P.R. in which he said the nation needs to adopt English as its official language to gain statehood and a remark on Monday in which he claimed the unemployment rate “doesn’t matter to me” — Santorum was still defiant after his Illinois loss. “This is an election about fundamental and foundational things,” the former Pennsylvania Senator said during a gathering in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. “This is an election about not who’s the best person to manage Washington or manage the economy. We don’t need a manager, we need someone who’s going to pull government up by the roots and do something to liberate the private sector in America.” The race now moves on to Louisiana on Saturday, where, once again, Romney will attempt to prove that he can appeal to the party’s conservative base and that he can win in the South. Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson: First Public Pic!

Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson are officially that couple. That couple goes out in public and posts photos of themselves in order to flaunt their relationship online … basically any couple in the social media era. Of course, they’re anything but a conventional pair. Just one week ago, Ben’s proposal to Courtney – and the dirty laundry that followed – aired on TV. Incredibly, despite a breakup since The Bachelor season finale , the two appear to have weathered the storm, and are now taking their romance public: “1st pic out in public,” the winemaker Tweeted with this pic. A witness who saw the pair out and about tells Us Weekly: “Saw Ben and Courtney dining with two other guests in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. She was wearing her ring and they looked cozy.” Aww. Despite Ben kissing random chicks just last month and her overall psychosis on The Bachelor this season, things are looking up for the couple. The Bachelor host slash pimp Chris Harrison says that Courtney Robertson and Ben Flajnik just might last. What do you think? Do they stand a chance?

Jessica Simpson Baby Shower: Star-Studded, Special

Jessica Simpson is about to pop. On Sunday, in honor of that fact, the star was joined by more than 50 of her close friends and family, including her Texas family members and stars like Grey’s Anatomy ‘s Ellen Pompeo, Jess’ sister Ashlee and Jessica Alba, for a baby shower! Aside from the big names, it was a pretty standard soiree. “It was a kid friendly shower with many of her friends bringing babies,” a source says. “Jessica [Alba] brought her baby Haven and Ashlee brought Bronx.” Earlier this month, the singer/actress/designer confirmed to Elle (which features Jessica Simpson nude on its cover) that she is expecting a baby girl. Coming as no surprise, pink and yellow was the surrounding color theme of the day, with tube-shaped balloons and spring tulips throughout the venue. “She received tons of gifts mostly wrapped in pink boxes,” adds the source. “There were several books, stuffed toys and clothes among other items.” “She seemed completely ecstatic” an eyewitness added. 50 Cent and Eminem Join Forces At SXSW

50 Cent performs his 2003 album “Get Rich or Die Tryin'” with some help from Marshall Mathers. By Nadeska Alexis 50 Cent and Eminem perform March 16 Photo: Sam Hendrick/ MTV News 50 Cent made a rare appearance in Austin, Texas on Friday night to perform his classic 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in its entirety, and fans who were hoping for that rumored Eminem performance were not the least bit disappointed. The opening lineup at the SXSW Shady 2.0 Showcase included 50 Cent’s new G-Unit artists Paris and Kidd Kidd, plus Action Bronson, Black Hippy’s Schoolboy Q, Don Trip and Big K.R.I.T. Yelawolf was forced to cancel his appearance due to an injury but his fellow Shady Records signees, Slaughterhouse, took the stage before Fif dishing out freestyles, in addition to singles like “Hammer Dance” from their upcoming album welcome to: Our House . 50 Cent hit the stage shortly after 11pm, launching into “What Up Gangsta?” decked out in an appropriately nostalgic outfit–a camouflage bullet-proof best and Yankees cap. Throughout the week there had been whispers of an Eminem guest appearance during Fif’s set, and Marshall Mathers confirmed those rumors on the second song of the night. Fifty rolled right into “Patiently Waiting,” spitting his first verse and within seconds Em burst onto the stage, delivering the hook and his verse, casually decked out in jeans a baseball cap and his signature hoodie. At times, Fif’s commentary during the show was just as entertaining as the actual songs. “It’s been 10 years. That album sold 13 million copies,” he told the crowd, marveling at the success of Get Rich or Die Tryin.’ “The money came so fast, I couldn’t f— it up,” he added, getting some laughs from the crowd. “I was trying everything I could think of.” Tony Yayo hung by Fif’s side as the crowd continued to go wild for tracks like “Many Men,” and “In Da Club.” And although the Queens rapper was in great spirits, he still managed to get in a bit of a rant, taking aim at some of his critics. “I guess it’s not what have I done, but what have I done for you lately, is that right?” he said, the annoyance evident on his face. Still, Fif treated fans to a few more songs, including an encore performance and a freestyle over Eminem’s “Till I Collapse,” which commanded another Shady appearance on stage. “Wanksta” was the closing number of the night, and though fans stayed put, expectantly, for another few minutes, that was it folks. Yelawolf Trying To ‘Get Right’ After Spleen Injury

‘He just had to cancel a couple of shows just so he could get right,’ Royce da 5’9″ tells MTV News in Austin, Texas before SXSW Shady showcase. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Nadeska Alexis Yelawolf Photo: Joey Foley/ Getty Images There’s a Shady party scheduled to go down at SXSW on Friday night (March 16), but sadly Yelawolf will not be performing with his labelmates 50 Cent and Slaughterhouse . The Gadsden, Alabama, MC was hospitalized March 2 with an injury to his spleen after a stage-diving accident in Madison, Wisconsin. “I have [spoken] to him, I spoke to him, I called him and checked on him. I think he stage-dove or something like that,” Royce da 5’9″ told MTV News of Yela’s status when we caught up with the MC in Austin, Texas. “I don’t know if people know this because Yelawolf is such a mild-mannered, laid-back kinda guy, but he gets real rowdy onstage and he doesn’t mind putting his physical health in danger as well as the fans’, which makes for a greater show.” No doubt, Yela has earned a reputation as an energetic performer, mixing both rap and punk-rock elements into his stage show. Unfortunately, after the Wisconsin show, doctors recommended he cancel a number of dates, including a concert at Saint Andrew’s Hall in label boss Eminem’s native Detroit and, of course, tonight’s SXSW showcase. Not that the Shady 2.0 show will be without highlights. 50 Cent is set to perform his 2003 classic debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, in its entirety and Slaughterhouse will take the stage in what is expected to be a lyrical free-for-all. Big K.R.I.T., Schoolboy Q, Action Bronson and XXL freshman Don Trip are also scheduled to hit the stage. As far as Catfish Billy, Royce expects his buddy to make a full recovery. “He’s well, he’s doing well,” he said, “He just had to cancel a couple of shows just so he could get right.” SXSW is under way in Austin, Texas, and MTV News has you covered with all of the action. SXSW Film Fest Full Of Chills, Thrills And Tears Of Laughter

MTV News wraps up the highlights of the Austin, Texas, festival including our favorite celebrity interviews. By Kara Warner Matthew McConaughey in “Killer Joe” Photo: Voltage Pictures AUSTIN, Texas — Although the South by Southwest Music Festival is just getting started, the film portion of the annual music, arts and interactive gathering in Austin, Texas, is coming to an end. It was too short a trip for our tastes, but we were able to cram in an awful lot of film coverage during our time within the city limits. Before we get to the highlights from SXSW Film Fest ’12, here’s a compilation of our interviewees’ humorous commentary regarding the best and worst things about SXSW. “The great thing about SXSW is the proliferation of beautiful young men all over the city,” deadpanned Nick Offerman. “Now that the sun’s out we’re going to be seeing some shirts come off. This is a modern film we’ve made,” he said of his film, “Somebody Up There Likes Me,” trying to tie it to his answer. “Nature is beautiful.” “#1: It’s in Austin, that’s the best,” said Johnny Knoxville. “The Fest feels like it’s picking up steam every year.” “There was one day where from around 11 a.m. ’til whenever I went to bed I think I had — I counted — 28 beers,” “21 Jump Street” star Jonah Hill recalled of his first boozy experience at the festival a few years back. “I was never drunk, it was such a long period of time, there was a good old buzz thing going on for 20 hours.” “My favorite thing so far is waiting in line with other people,” admitted “Jump Street” co-director Chris Miller. “At first it was driving me crazy, but … you’re there for an hour with people who all like the same stuff and have a much cooler conversation there than you would in a bar.” “The cons of SXSW are all the beautiful young women getting in the way of looking at all the beautiful young men,” Offerman continued. “Prancing about, tossing their hair like they’re all that. They’re not.” With those pros and cons in mind, let’s get back to our film-focused journey in Austin, which we began with the Joss Whedon-scripted, Drew Goddard-directed festival opener, “The Cabin in the Woods.” Although it is a traditional horror film with “thrilling deaths,” it’s a crowd-pleaser nonetheless. Then came the twisted thriller “Killer Joe,” which features many an opportunity for awkward laughter and smooth-talkin’ Matthew McConaughey as a killer-for-hire , followed by a surprise appearance from Mark Wahlberg during Seth MacFarlane’s “A Conversation With” panel, which led to a very casual interview about Wahlberg’s acting skills and falling in love with a teddy bear. After that, we walked down a dark childhood memory lane with “Nature Calls” director Todd Rohal and stars Johnny Knoxville and Rob Riggle. We spent time with skateboarding legend Danny Way during his surprise visit to a local skate park, and tried not to laugh ourselves to tears during chats with “Small Apartments” scene-stealer Matt Lucas and deadpan comedy ace Nick Offerman when he told us the best thing about his buzzworthy film, “Somebody Up There Likes Me” is the fact that he gets naked onscreen. We’re still not sure he was telling the truth, but it was hilarious nonetheless. Our final day of film-related action involved a visit to “21 Jump Street” with stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum , who revealed the project’s special ties to SXSW, as well as their reactions to finally seeing the finished film with an audience. We chatted up Fabianne Therese, the star of the recently picked-up home invasion thriller “The Aggression Scale,” who accidentally put her hand through a glass window during filming and resulted in the filmmakers writing it into the script. And then we caught up with the men of “Extracted,” an intriguing film about a man who invents a way to watch people’s memories from inside their minds and then gets trapped within a criminal’s mind. “I think [the movie] means something to everybody,” director Nir Paniry said. “To me, it’s a film about regret and how one memory means something to somebody else and one memory means something to another person. Memories are not finite records, they’re organic, they can be manipulated, but they’re specific to the person. Your memory of something is not my memory of something.” “It’s life. All these things that are universal and timeless,” added star Sasha Roiz. “Trying to confront your past or changing your course of life, redemption. These two men are basically sitting in their own purgatory, one is stuck in a cell, one is stuck in the mind of another man. There all these wonderful themes that bubble to the surface. And although it’s not technically film-related, we spent some time with Lena Dunham, the star/creator/executive producer of HBO’s heavily hyped new series “Girls,” which she promises is grounded in reality and deals with the drama of modern romantic relationships. All in all, our experience was fun-filled, if a tad bit exhausting. For those of you hankering to see the films in our lineup, the good news is that several of them are headed to theaters or small screens near you. “21 Jump Street” opened everywhere Friday (March 16); “Cabin in the Woods” hits theaters April 13; “Girls” premieres on HBO April 15, followed by the DVD/Blu-Ray release of “The Aggression Scale” on May 29. Seth MacFarlane’s live-action debut “Ted” hits theaters July 13.
