Conrad Murray Documentary To Air Friday

‘Michael Jackson and the Doctor’ will premiere on MSNBC. By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Al Seib/ Getty Images Just five days after his conviction on a felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson , a documentary about Dr. Conrad Murray will air on MSNBC. The special, “Michael Jackson and the Doctor,” will include footage of Murray insisting that Jackson “begged and pleaded” for the surgical anesthetic propofol. It will hit the airwaves a few days after Murray settled into Los Angeles County Jail , where he is awaiting a November 29 sentencing hearing following his conviction. “He asked me, ‘Please, please, Dr. Conrad … I need some milk [propofol] so that I can sleep,” Murray says in the special, according to MSNBC . “If I don’t get any sleep today, I cannot perform, I cannot do anything.” After nearly 10 hours of deliberation, the jury in the Murray case came back with a unanimous guilty verdict, agreeing the doctor acted in a fashion that caused Jackson’s death. The seven-man, five-woman jury made the decision after 49 witnesses and some bruising testimony from prosecution experts lashing Murray, a cardiologist with clinics in Texas and Las Vegas who was recruited in 2009 by Jackson to help the then-50-year-old star stay healthy in the run-up to his planned 50-date comeback tour, This Is It. The prosecution brought a long list of medical experts and emergency-room doctors to the stand to testify that Murray had not followed proper procedure in dealing with Jackson when the singer was in distress on the morning of June 25, 2009. They also presented evidence that the care Murray provided for Jackson in the weeks and months leading up to that fateful morning were substandard or outside the bounds of legal and ethical requirements. The witnesses concluded that Murray lacked the proper monitoring equipment to administer the surgical anesthetic propofol to Jackson, an off-label use of the intravenously delivered drug that was reportedly employed to help chronic insomniac Jackson get to sleep. According to TMZ , Murray signed on for the documentary back in 2009 just after MJ’s death, and it will feature scenes of infighting among his defense team. The MSNBC special will chronicle the trial from the perspective of Murray — who did not take the stand in the trial — and his defense team, including an interview with the doctor about the day Jackson died, in which he shares details about his relationship with the pop star. In one segment, Murray describes Jackson’s appearance the morning he died, saying the singer looked “hysterical” and was so distraught he resembled his ghoulish alter-ego from the iconic 1982 “Thriller” video. Cameras have followed Murray and his defense team for two years in compiling the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie’s distributor also acquired the rights to an exclusive interview Murray gave to British broadcaster Steve Hewlett on October 30, which is reportedly the only interview Murray plans to give on the trial. “I think in many ways, there were some mirror images in our lives,” Murray says about MJ in the special. “I’ve seen him cry so many times. He lived a life greater than a hundred years of pain of any human.” The verdict is in on the Conrad Murray trial. Stick with MTV News for continued coverage, updates and analysis on MTVNews.com . Conrad Murray Found Guilty In Michael Jackson’s Death

Jury took nearly nine hours to return a verdict against Jackson’s former doctor. By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson Photo: Getty Images After nearly six weeks of testimony and several gasp-inducing courtroom moments, the jury in the involuntary manslaughter trial against former Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray rendered a guilty verdict Monday (November 7) after almost nine hours of deliberation. The verdict came after 49 witnesses took the stand and the prosecution presented often-bruising testimony against Murray, a cardiologist with clinics in Texas and Las Vegas who was recruited in 2009 by Jackson to help the then-50-year-old star stay healthy in the run-up to his planned 50-date comeback tour, This Is It . Investigators found that Murray ordered nearly 4 gallons of propofol in his treatment regimen for Jackson and administered the drug inside the singer’s rented home, a practice that all the prosecution experts said was unheard of. Jurors also heard testimony about how Murray left Jackson’s bedroom for a period after providing him with propofol and spent his time making calls and sending texts to a former girlfriend. When he realized Jackson was in distress, Murray gave the pop star CPR on a bed, a decision that also deviated from the suggested method requiring a hard surface under the patient. Murray was additionally faulted for waiting more than 20 minutes to call 911, not keeping proper records and failing to tell the paramedics and ER doctors that he had given Jackson propofol. While prosecution witnesses claimed Murray acted with “gross negligence” in treating Jackson, the physician’s own team of lawyers countered with a string of defense witnesses who called into question claims made by Jackson’s bodyguard that he requested that staffers hide bottles of propofol before he dialed 911. Other character witnesses testified to the generous, attentive nature of Murray’s medical practice, while expert defense witnesses cast doubt on the theories about Jackson’s death provided by the prosecution’s star witness, Dr. Steven Shafer . Murray, who was slated to make $150,000 a month to care for Jackson, had pleaded not guilty to the single felony charge and is now facing four years in prison. But new sentencing laws in California aimed at mandatorily reducing state prison overcrowding mean that, as a nonviolent offender with no prior record, he is likely to be sentenced to county jail instead. If that is the case, his sentence could be reduced further. He also still faces a civil lawsuit brought by MJ’s father, Joseph Jackson , which seeks financial restitution. Both Joseph Jackson and Michael’s mother, Katherine, were on hand to hear Monday’s verdict, along with several of the singer’s siblings and a throng of sign-waving fans gathered in support of both Jackson and Murray. Demi Lovato: Behind Her World Series National Anthem

We follow the singer as she returns to her hometown to sing the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ and cheer the Texas Rangers to victory. By Matt Harper Demi Lovato sings the National Anthem prior to Game 5 of the 2011 World Series Photo: MLB/Getty Fifteen minutes before taking the field to sing the national anthem near her hometown of Dallas at Game 5 of the World Series, Demi Lovato admitted to MTV News just how nervous she was. “I feel like I’m about to jump out of a plane,” the young star confided nervously after warming up her vocals in a back room deep in the heart of Arlington, Texas’ Rangers Ballpark. “Although this is a lot safer.” MTV News got the opportunity to spend the day with Demi as she prepped for the big moment. Minutes before stepping out in front of 51,000 people, she was cracking jokes, but it was plain to see that she was nervous — extremely excited, but definitely nervous. Just seventeen minutes later, and Demi’s smile said everything you needed to know about how her performance went. Standing on the field watching the 19-year-old belt out the notoriously difficult song, it was hard not to get swept up in the emotion of it all. Even before the end of the anthem, hitting a particularly difficult note in stride, the crowd erupted in premature cheering. As fireworks erupted and the crowd stood cheering, Demi left the field smiling. As we walked through the back hallways of the stadium, we were stopped every few feet by fans, athletes and MLB officials telling Demi how amazing she had done. After posing for photos with a few fans, Demi was approached by Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp, who had also just left the field after being given the 2011 Hank Aaron Award as the most outstanding offensive player in the National League. Kemp took a moment to congratulate Demi and ask for a picture with her. Finally back in the green room, Demi was able to stop and think back on the whirlwind 20 minutes. Her family and friends were all there to support her, and they gushed about seeing the performance on TV and how clearly moved the players and fans were. In the company of her support circle, Demi was able to relax and laugh and let the nervous energy of the day roll away. All that was left was to sit back and spend time with the people that she cared about the most — and cheer on the Rangers, of course. We all traveled to our seats to watch the World Series game, and Demi sat in-between her aunt and one of her childhood friends, with other relatives and close friends flanking her on either side. For the next few hours, Demi got to watch the exciting game like the rest of the 50,999 fans in the stadium, eating popcorn and standing up to cheer as the Texas Rangers’ Mike Napoli got the final out of the game to seal Texas’ 4-2 win over the St-Louis Cardinals. A perfect end to a long and exciting day for Demi Lovato. How did Demi do on the anthem? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato

Damn it Romo . It’s not bad enough that Jessica still cheers for your Dallas Cowboys more than her husband-to-be and the 49ers or that you and your Jessica replacement made it down the aisle before Jessica and her Romo replacement did? Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, announced that he and his wife, Candice Crawford, are having a baby! The handsome NFL star revealed the good news on Tuesday at the Cedar Hill High School in Texas, telling the students: “I actually have one on the way. Romo famously dated Jessica Simpson, who seems to be showing off an ever growing baby bump of her own, although she has yet to announce the good news. You couldn’t let her have this one either huh? Milton Bradley Fires Back at Wife, Denies Abuse Allegations

Milton Bradley, a former Major League Baseball outfielder as well known for his temper as his production with men in base, has fired back at his wife. Two weeks ago, Monique Bradley filed for a restraining order from her husband after a confrontation that led to Milton’s arrest, during which she claims he pulled out a gun and threatened her life. But the ex-Mariner/Dodger/Padre has now filed his own documents with L.A. Country Superior Court, TMZ reports , and they label these allegations as “absolutely false.” Bradley says his wife is a repeated liar and he never threatened her, not during this incident and not last month, when she claims he swung a baseball bat in her direction. Milton and Monique have both filed for divorce, with the former asking a judge to award him joint custody of their young sons. Another one of Bradley’s former teams, meanwhile, the Texas Rangers, are a game away from their first World Series title.

Demi Lovato ‘Cannot Wait’ To Perform At World Series

‘Without my fans’ support, I wouldn’t be singing the National Anthem,’ Lovato tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News Demi Lovato is taking the field during Game 5 of the World Series to support her hometown team, the Texas Rangers. No, she won’t be suiting up and taking the mound; the “Skyscraper” songstress will be belting out the national anthem before Monday night’s (October 24) game verses the St. Louis Cardinals. “I’m so excited,” Lovato recently told MTV News of singing the “Star-Spangled Banner.” “I just nearly died when I found out. I cannot wait.” Lovato said she wouldn’t have been able to sing the national anthem at the game if it weren’t for her loyal Lovatics. She recently tweeted , “Only my lovatics could land me a spot singing the national anthem at the WORLD SERIES!!!! I couldn’t do it without you guys!!!!” So how did Lovato’s fans land her the chance to sing before her hometown crowd? “My fans were actually the ones that sent a petition saying, like, ‘Can we get Demi to sing the national anthem?’ and sent it to the MLB and the Rangers’ Twitter, and they saw it and they called,” Lovato said. “So without my fans’ support, I wouldn’t be singing the national anthem.” Now, after her performance, Lovato will be cheering on her team — but don’t ask her to pick a favorite Ranger. She is just hoping for a win. “I don’t have a favorite player,” she said. “I support my home team.” Lovato isn’t the only star to sing the national anthem at the World Series this year: “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery and Zooey Deschanel have both lent their vocals before the big game.
