The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Recap – High Heels & Low Expectations

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills claim “The Higher the Heel, the Closer to God” but what if they’re only platform boots. We recap all of the campy shoe choices and strange animal moments in our THG +/- review. Kyle and Adrienne meet at a posh kid’s boutique to pick out something for Portia’s fourth birthday and Kyle thinks Adrienne is looking for pants for herself. What?  Apparently Kim is small enough to shop for clothes there too. Minus 20 . If you are a grown woman you should NOT be able to fit into kids clothes.  If you can, you really need to rethink your diet because something is very wrong. Taylor gets Paul and Mauricio to agree to don heels for a domestic violence charity walk.  Plus 15 to Mauricio for walking the walk.  At least those were real heels.  Paul’s platform boots were a complete cheat.  The least he could have done was wear those chunky Dorothy heels or a pair of kitten pumps.  What’s a few crunched toes for charity? Yolanda’s job these days seems to be managing her daughter Gigi’s modeling career.  I have to say the girl is a knock out. She looks just like her Mama did at that age. Plus 10 .   And although Yolanda borders on meddling, her advice seems to be spot on most of the time. Kyle throws Portia’s fourth birthday party and Kyle seems upset when ponies show up instead of unicorns.  Um…Kyle. I hate to burst the fantasy but… And I guess she should have specified white unicorns.  I’ll almost give her that one. In what movie have you ever seen a brown unicorn? Minus 11. Between the llamas and the ponies, Kyle really should have hired a popper scooper. Minus 8 . Overall it’s a pretty boring party but I couldn’t believe Kyle thought everyone would be on their best behavior because it was a kid’s party.  Minus 13 . That’s pretty naive. She gives these girls more credit than I do. Plus 15 to Brandi for at least trying to keep the peace, however Taylor had no trouble spreading the gossip.  Minus 10 because although Taylor looked a bit happier than we’ve seen her, she definitely needed some makeup…or how about some time in the sunlight.  I think all of that botox is doing strange things to her skin. Kyle tells Lisa she doesn’t mean to meddle…except that’s exactly what she’s doing. Plus 12 to Lisa for telling her the feud with Adrienne is no one else’s business. Now if Adrienne would only man up and apologize.  Like that’s going to happen. Episode total = -10!                           Season total = +17!

Roberts will soon be off the air for a number of weeks as she undergoes a bone marrow transplant to deal with her diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome, and TMZ reports GMA producers have approached the following stars to sit in for a week at a time alongside George Stephanopoulos: Diane Sawyer Charlie Gibson Barbara Walters Chris Cuomo Connie Chung Joan Lunden Look for names to be finalized the closer we get to Robin’s departure date, and also look for Roberts to hopefully be gone for fewer than four months. With the illness detected early, the journalist’s prognosis is reportedly “very good.” We couldn’t be happier to hear it.

REVIEW: Willem Dafoe Goes on the Prowl in Flawed The Hunter

Man vs. beast, man vs. man, man vs. corporation, man vs. himself — The Hunter takes all these pretty ladies out for a spin, but can’t seem to decide which one to bring home. The set-up is so swift it could easily pass you by: Martin (Willem Dafoe) is contracted by a shady outfit to bag a Tasmanian tiger, presumed extinct, in the Australian wilderness. Rumor has it there’s one left out there, and what better reason to fully extinguish a species than in the name of pharmaceutical patent? Martin appears to have no particular feeling about this assignment; as long as his toiletries are properly lined up and he’s left alone, he doesn’t appear to have a particular feeling about much of anything. Martin’s inscrutability is both a key element of all the above-listed plotlines and the reason no one of them is fully realized. Billeted in a remote Tasmanian home with two young children who have a missing father and a grieving mother (Frances O’Connor) who dopes herself through the days, Dafoe’s character is prepped for a transfusion of warmer, more human blood early on. Sass (Morgana Davies) is the big sister with the foul mouth and matter of fact attitude, Bike (Finn Woodlock) is the mystical mute little brother who draws pictures of Tasmanian tigers (a striking mix of jungle cat and mountain wolf) and seems to know more about his father’s whereabouts than he lets on. Both are utterly irresistible, and with their mother MIA they launch a full charm offensive, even jumping in the tub with Martin after he finally gets a broken generator — and some hot water — flowing again. Scene by scene The Hunter , adapted from a novel by Julia Leigh, holds your attention like a pair of big, inquisitive eyes, or perhaps the point-blank scope of an automatic rifle. Director Daniel Nettheim finds a smooth, confident rhythm that almost carries the underdeveloped story (by Alice Addison and Wain Fimeri) across the finish line. In his new home Martin is assimilated into the children’s sprawl whether he likes it or not, and eventually he is moved to help their mother get back on her feet. In town he is inducted into the local dispute between the loggers and the “greenies,” a group of activists attempting to stop the exploitation of the land. Sam Neill plays a fixer of sorts, one with eyes for O’Connor’s fragile widow and a dubious connection to the company desperate for the Tasmanian tiger’s trophy glands. Strange things happen during Martin’s first trips into the wild: a shot is fired, a camera is rigged to monitor one of his traps, and a laser sight hovers near his head. The hunter is being hunted, but by whom? Martin’s moral awakening would seem to be the center of the story — “man” being the only constant in all of the available themes — where human attachments interfere with the mercenary thrust of science, progress, or just mechanical job-completion. And to an extent it is: He develops a protective interest in his host family, even searching for signs of their missing father, with whom he has more in common than it first appeared. But the self-reflective side of that process — specifically the point of Martin’s mission and his feeling about it — only gets cloudier the closer he gets to his target. And it’s not the good kind of fog, which is on ample display in the mood-enhancing veils of mist captured by cinematographer Robert Humphreys, among countless other gorgeously textured shots of the teeming Tasmanian landscape. The paradox of Martin’s character feels accidental, or at least unresolved: The more we evidence we get of a beating heart on the homefront, the more mysterious that heart seems out in the wilderness. Because the film alternates between Martin’s expeditions and furloughs, the contrast becomes starker as the film goes on, and it’s hard not to lose interest in a hunt whose stakes seem unclear to the hunter. The conflict that develops around the terms of his assignment is less convincing than it could have been, making for a rushed and unsatisfying, pseudo-nihilist climax. Still, Dafoe and Woodlock in particular have a few moments that transcend the plot holes surrounding them; in a movie with this much going for it there’s no shame in letting them take direct aim at your heart. ‘Transformers 3’ Has ‘Best Action’ Yet, Shia LaBeouf Says

Actor says ‘Dark of the Moon’ is his last installment, but he’ll always covet the franchise: ‘It’s mine, dude!’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shia LaBeouf Photo: MTV News The closer we get to the “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” release date, the more we learn about the colorful characters and details involved in making this highly anticipated third film in the Michael Bay-directed franchise . In particular, star Shia LaBeouf is someone from whom we’ve come to expect the unexpected: complete and total honesty. When MTV News caught up with him backstage at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards , we asked if “Dark of the Moon” is really his last onscreen romp with the robots. “For sure,” he said. “I’m not coming back to do another one. I don’t think Mike will either. It still is a hot property, I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they’ll reboot it at some point with someone else.” But will it be strange to see someone else hanging out with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee? “Yeah,” LaBeouf admitted. “You have an onus in it. I’ll enjoy it. I’ll go [see it] opening night, I’ll be there. But there is a disconnect. It’s mine, dude,” he joked of his role in the blockbuster franchise. “It’s mine.” Whether LaBeouf can be convinced to return to another “Transformers” film or not, it certainly seems like he and Bay are going out with a bang. “[‘Dark of the Moon’]is the best movie we’ve made, I’m serious,” he assured us. “It’s not a joke. I’m dead honest, man. I get myself in trouble all the time, but this is our best installment. It’s our best movie.” LaBeouf explained that this film’s defining characteristic is the action and the revolutionary 3-D. “It’s the best action, in terms of the geography. In the second one, you get confused as to who’s fighting who and where you are, because it’s such a big landscape,” he said. “This one is ‘Black Hawk Down’-ish. It’s one location, and the geography is simple to understand. “[Bay] did the 3-D in a different way than anyone has ever done it before,” he continued. “James Cameron has seen the movie; he said it’s the best 3-D since ‘Avatar,’ so there’s all that. Also, this is our best story. It’s the most solid screenplay we’ve had since we started. All those things plus new cast we have, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Ken Jeong, a lot of strong additions. Everything we got right in the first one, we’ve improved here.” MTV News has all of the highlights from the 2011 MTV Movie Awards . Relive the best moments, watch red-carpet interviews with your favorite stars and read all about what went on behind the scenes on the big night. Related Photos ‘Transformers: Dark Of The Moon’

SAG Awards Seating Chart: Where ‘Glee’ Sits Next To ‘True Grit’

For Sunday’s awards show, producer explains science behind celebrity seating. By Kelly Marino SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — The Screen Actors Guild Awards are coming up on Sunday, and preparations are already well under way at the Shrine Auditorium. The stage is coming together, the list of presenters is close to being finalized and, most importantly, the seating arrangements are being mapped out. “It depends on the size of the cast,” SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell explained when MTV News asked how the seating chart is determined. “It also depends on if they were here the year before. If the TV cast was down front, we are probably going to put them further back this year. We also try to be democratic between film and TV.” The ceremony will take place in an intimate dinner setting where both film and TV actors will be seated next to their peers. Throughout the show, the celebrities can nosh on food provided by Lucques Catering and sip on Dry Creek wine and Taittinger Champagne while they celebrate one another’s work. The Guild seats the film casts next to the TV casts in order to allow everyone to visit and mingle in between acts. For example, the first few tables located in the front of the venue have place cards for the cast of “True Grit” seated next to the cast of “Glee.” Moving more toward the center of the room reveals the actors of “The Kids Are All Right” seated next to the guys from “30 Rock.” And a quick look around the rest of the room shows the ensemble from “The Closer” seated next to “Modern Family,” who are across from the cast of “The Fighter” and “Hot in Cleveland.” “Actors are actors. They don’t care that they are on TV. In fact, you know, film actors are very, very fond of watching actors on TV and vice versa,” Connell said. The 17th annual SAG Awards will air live on TNT and TBS this Sunday at 8p.m. ET from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
