WATCH: The Dark Knight Rises Teases 13 Minute Behind the Scenes Featurette

The first reviews of The Dark Knight Rises won’t hit for at least another week, but Warner Bros. keeps putting out tantalizing looks at the Chris Nolan-directed trilogy-ender. If you’re one of the legions of Bat-curious fans out there hungry for new peeks at the superhero finale, you’ll find a host of new images and behind-the-scenes footage in a newly released 13-minute featurette for The Dark Knight Rises . Go ahead, treat yo’ self. Nolan, producers Chuck Roven and Emma Thomas, and stars Christian Bale , Anne Hathaway , and Tom Hardy among others pop up in the featurette to add their observations from the set (many nuggets of which made their way into the 50-page production notes recently unveiled online). In the clip, Nolan calls TDKR a story of “the elemental conflict between good and evil,” before the piece goes on to explore the moral battle lines drawn in the flick and where each of its characters stand. Among the more interesting tidbits: Nolan’s description of his superhero pic as his way of harkening back to the silent film era and the epic scale filmmaking of olde: massive sets, armies of extras, spectacle cinema at its burliest. Watch as Nolan gives direction thousands of feet in the air to four stunt men dangling from a piece of airborne fuselage, or builds a fake football field on top of Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field for that impressive destruction sequence, or orchestrates a full-on Wall Street brawl, and you see the kind of experience he’s talking about. The Dark Knight Rises rises on July 20.

WATCH: Bane Destroys Basically Everything In Latest Dark Knight Rises Trailer

WB has delivered a final-final trailer in advance of The Dark Knight Rises ‘ July 20 debut, filled with more explosions and Bane-shots than ever before! Watch as Tom Hardy hangs by his fingertips to an airplane seat, cool as a cucumber, as chaos erupts around him. Listen as he (almost-intelligibly, even!) calls out Bruce Wayne/Batman before tossing our hero’s broken mask to the ground on his way to lunch. It’s all in a day’s work for Hardy’s Bane, who’s come to Gotham City to kick ass and chew, uh, scenery with frail Christian Bale and catty Anne Hathaway . And guess what he’s run out of? Ass! No, wait. The other way around. I kid, I kid. Bane has turned into the reason to see The Dark Knight Rises (other than the fact that it’s The Dark Knight Rises ) and it all looks so deliciously destructive, I can’t wait. The Dark Knight Rises will inspire Bat-graffiti and ignite rising fires in your geek pants on July 20.

Who’s Willing to Pay Big Bucks for Scalped Dark Knight Rises Tickets?

With a number of The Dark Knight Rises midnight screenings sold out across the country, you might be out of luck snagging a coveted opening night ticket at certain theaters. But who’s willing to pay as much as $120 for a single TDKR IMAX ticket just to be among the first to catch the Batman outing this summer? ScreenCrush reports on the recent rise in scalped offerings for Christopher Nolan’s latest: “Tickets to the midnight IMAX screenings are popping up on eBay and Craigslist for over $100; at times an almost 80% markup…A few ‘entrepreneurs’ are even selling groups of seats for $500.” Silly spending or essential expense? Sound off, Batfans. [ ScreenCrush ]

New Dark Knight Rises Poster: Batsplosion!

Another Chris Nolan Batman movie poster, another juxtaposition of the Gotham City skyline in disarray featuring the Bat-symbol carved artfully in the air out of debris and angsty madness — this time, with more Batman! Get a gander at the new Batsplosion-ey poster for The Dark Knight Rises , which hits July 20 promising that “A Fire Will Rise.” (In your pants, amirite?) A second tagline also gives the poster a feeling of baddie Bane’s presence, even if he’s nowhere to be found: “The Legend Ends…” Or maybe that’s just Nolan’s way of telling us he’s almost done with his superhero opus. Either way, July’s right around the corner. [via Facebook ]

The Dark Knight Rises Viral Campaign Harnesses the Power of Graffiti

With The Dark Knight Rises release fast approaching, Warner Bros. has launched their latest bit of buzz-driving viral marketing by teasing a brand-new trailer for the July release. But in order to see that trailer, Bat-fans must first “help” the Gotham City Police Department “find” Batman by tracking hundreds of pieces of Bat-graffiti strategically placed around the world; for each bit of graffiti located and tagged via social media, Warner Bros. will unveil the new trailer one frame at a time . Graffiti: it’s not just for Oscar-nominees anymore! Tucked away in a dossier containing Batman’s GCPD criminal file (posted to TheDarkKnightRises.com ) are documents detailing where Batman stands following the events of The Dark Knight : Namely, at the top of the city’s hit list, having taken the rap for murder, kidnapping, and aggravated assault. In a viral call to action cleverly disguised as a police memo, “officers” (that’s you, Bat-fans) are directed to find pieces of pro-Batman graffiti stenciled across Gotham City (that’s every box office-targeted metropolis, right?) in an effort to stamp out grassroots support for the caped crusader. “Officers should also be directed to report any and all information pertaining to the investigation to the designated contact (#tdkr07202012 or tdkr07202012@gothampolicedepartment.com). This includes submitting photographic evidence of graffiti related to any movement in support of the vigilante’s return so we can suppress it before it becomes a problem. Officers should make sure that location services or store location is on in their camera settings.” The campaign has already unlocked a number of frames from the trailer (see below, courtesy Coming Soon): I’m sure Warner Bros. doesn’t endorse graffiti — except in bat form, and leading up to July 20, 2012, and in chalk, of course. And it’s a brilliant way to get fans in a tizzy over seeing a trailer ONE FREAKING FRAME AT A TIME. But isn’t this guy who shaved the Bat-signal into his facial hair (via Reddit) just as effective a piece of viral marketing? Move over, Movember! It’s time for… Bat-stache-uly? [via Coming Soon ]

Brad Bird, Christopher Nolan Stay on IMAX Warpath

Where have you read this before ? “In December, Paramount made the unconventional decision to release Ghost Protocol exclusively in IMAX theaters five days before broadening its release. The move, which Mr. Bird advocated, helped catapult the film to the No. 1 spot when it went wide the following week on the way to becoming the highest-grossing Mission Impossible installment yet. For Mr. Bird, the point is that the typical multiplex theater lacks excitement. When he was young, he says ‘if you wanted to see a brand new movie, the only way was to see it perfectly projected in a really big theater with the bulb turned all the way up and an attentive projectionist.'” Adds Christopher Nolan: “These were cameras that had been to the top of Mount Everest, to the bottom of the ocean and into outer space, but people thought we couldn’t make a feature film. It was absurd.” [ WSJ ]

Charles Manson Parole: Denied!

Infamous mass murderer Charles Manson just lost his latest parole bid … stunning. The hearing took place at Corcoran State Prison in California, where Manson, convicted of seven murders in 1969, has now been denied an even dozen times. At the age of 77, this was probably his last shot at parole , as Sharon Tate’s killer’s case cannot be heard again for another 15 years from yesterday. Of course, he was never going to get out anyway, so it’s a moot point. Only one “Manson Family” member convicted of murder has been paroled. Steve Grogan is out, having been released in 1985 for aiding the authorities and good behavior. Charles Manson was originally sentenced to death row in 1972, but his sentence was commuted after the California death penalty was declared unconstitutional.

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman: New Pic Released!

Anne Hathaway made headlines this week with her new short hair . Now she’s making even more of them for her Catwoman costume. The cropped ‘do is for her role in Les Miserables, and the catsuit, of course, is for her role in the upcoming summer blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises . We haven’t seen a photo of Anne as her feline alter ego in some time, so it was quite a treat that the producers decided to release this new image … Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale’s final foray into the world of the caped crusader , The Dark Knight Rises lands in theaters July 20. Don’t miss it.
