Tim Gunn Talks to Movieline About Project Runway, Confronting Gretchen, and Crossdressing J. Edgar Hoover

Project Runway ‘s addictive drama hinges on the appearance of Tim Gunn, the competing designers’ mentor who adds doses of advice, wit, and professorial integrity to the workroom. Movieline caught up with Gunn to discuss his new book Gunn’s Golden Rules (and that chapter about J. Edgar Hoover’s Vivian Vance drag ), “crackpipe”-smoking judges, and even his favorite film scene of all time.

Roman Polanski Free After Swiss Reject Extradition

Roman Polanski is a free man today after the Swiss Justice Ministry officially rejected an extradition request from the United States. The decision ends a nine-and-a-half-month saga which saw Polanski nabbed at an airport, sequestered in jail, moved out to house arrest and finally released when, according to the Swiss, prosecutors failed to provide confidential testimony about the director’s original trial and sentencing. Which of course raises many questions, including the eminently obvious: Why the hell did we even bother?

Will James Cameron’s Next Film Star the Black Eyed Peas?

As we all know, James Cameron’s best work is not Aliens, Avatar , or Titanic , but instead his one contribution to music video history: Martini Ranch’s “Reach” video, a deliciously absurd parable about female bodybuilders and Kathryn Bigelow’s doability in a cowgirl outfit . Alas, Cameron hasn’t directed a music video since, although according to will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas, the director is going to put off Avatar 2 to direct their concert film. Um what?

Since Guillermo del Toro bolted from the production last week, he’s promised to deliver a second statement about just what went down, and that longer missive came late last night. His explanation?
