It’s been a hard month for Michelle Duggar. Not only did she suffer a miscarriage with her 20th child, she is also in the position of having to comfort her younger kids. Fortunately, she’s been able to receive comfort from her offspring, as well. Michelle says Jackson, 7, asked about baby sister Jubilee Shalom. She soothed him and explained the loss of the child that the family never got to know. She likely left out the part about them Tweeting a pic of the miscarried fetus . “I told him there is going to be a day when we’re going to be together again,” she says . “As the days go on, I know we will have time to talk through all this. I have been trying to hold my composure and do what I needed to do, and then be able to grieve.” It’s not just the young ones who need solace. Jill, 20, who’s studying to be a midwife and had been charting the baby’s growth and heartbeat, is devastated. “She was crying and weeping last night,” Michelle said at the memorial service for Jubilee. “I hugged her and said, ‘I am holding on, and I am going to let the tears go. We can pray, cry and grieve together in the weeks and days we walk through this.'” But Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar lean on their children, too. “My older girls have been precious to make Momma take care of Momma right now, and Jim Bob has been busy taking care of everything,” she says. Despite their loss, the family plans to celebrate all their December birthdays: Josie (2), Jordyn (3), Jinger (18) and twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah (13). Should they try for a 20th baby again?
For the first time since her husband was arrested on multiple charges of heinous sex crimes against young boys, Dottie Sandusky has spoken out. Dottie says she’s been “shocked and dismayed by the allegations made against” the ex-Penn State coach, adding: “As the mother of six children, I have been devastated by these accusations. “Our children, our extended family and friends know how much Jerry and I love kids and have always tried to help and care for them. We would never do anything to hurt them. I am so sad anyone would make such a terrible accusation which is absolutely untrue. We don’t know why these young men have made these false accusations, but we want everyone to know they are untrue.” Earlier today, Dottie helped bail her husband out of jail by writing a personal check for $50,000. He remains confined to the couple’s house and, if his lawyer has any brains at all, will stop making public statements such as these .
A shooting at Virginia Tech University has left two people dead, including a police officer, and prompted the entire school to be placed on lockdown today. A Virginia Tech police officer was fatally shot on the campus by an as-yet-unidentified gunman, for whom a sweeping search was conducted for four hours. Here’s the local press conference detailing the events of this afternoon: Virginia Tech Shooting Press Conference Around 4:30 p.m. EST, the Blacksburg, Va., school announced on its Twitter feed that “law enforcement agencies have determined there is no longer an active threat or a need to secure in place. Resume normal activities.” Police said that the shooting occurred shortly after noon, after the police officer made a routine traffic stop in the Coliseum parking lot near McComas Hall. During that stop, a person who wasn’t involved in the traffic stop approached and shot the officer, then fled toward a nearby parking lot, officials said. When another investigating officer circled back to approach the person – described as a white male – that person was dead of a gunshot wound. A Virginia state police spokesman said that police didn’t shoot the second person, and he wouldn’t say whether the person was the suspect. It’s unclear if the search is ongoing, but he said investigators feel “confident we located the person,” and “you can kind of read between the lines.” The incident comes after a shooting spree in which a Virginia Tech student, Cho Seung-Hui, shot dead 32 people before killing himself in April 2007. More details to follow as the story develops …
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar announced some sad news today. A month after they announced her pregnancy with their 20th child , their doctor was unable to find a heartbeat and told her she suffered a miscarriage. “After the appointment, we came back home and told the children,” says Michelle , 45. “We had just been talking about baby names last night and they were getting excited about naming a boy or a girl. It has been a real sad disappointment.” She says the family will select a name after they know if the baby, miscarried in the second trimester, was a boy or girl, and then plan to have a funeral. “I feel like my heart broke telling my children,” says Michelle. “They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult.” Still, she adds that the family’s faith perseveres: “The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him.” The stars of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting weathered myriad medical ordeal with their youngest daughter, Josie-Brookyln, born in December 2009. This is actually her second miscarriage. Michelle lost a baby during her second pregnancy. She was taking oral birth control then, citing that as a big reason the pair decided they’d leave the number of children they have “up to God.” In light of these events, should the Duggars still try for a 20th?
Following a series of scripted drunken outbursts, Scott Disick has entered therapy . In his attempt to overcome a battle with substance abuse, the douchebag baby daddy of little Mason Dash is now receiving support from an unlikely source: Kris Jenner. Said Scott’s most vocal critic (while, of course, doing publicity for season five of Keeping Up with the Kardashians ): “I think that Scott has really come a long way. My main concern is for my daughter Kourtney and my grandson Mason, and I think Scott had some issues he was really grappling with and has come around.” Jenner even told E! News that Disick is a “really good dad.” What’s next, will Levi Johnston make up with Bristol Palin? (Probably.) Chimed in Kim Kardashian, regarding her mother’s new viewpoint: “I give her a lot of credit. It must be hard to watch the show [ Kourtney & Khlo
Arkansans Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have, obviously, always been open about their intentions to raise children – we’re talking about a lot of children. But the stars of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting faced near tragedy with their 19th child’s premature birth, leading many observers to conclude that was it. Not so fast. The couple, whose baby Josie Duggar was hospitalized for six months with a perforated bowel and rare digestive problems, are considering a 20th child . “Our family is stronger than ever,” Jim Bob Duggar, 45, and Michelle Duggar, 43, tell People in its new cover story . “We made it through the storm.” That’s not to say it’s an easy call. Born months early after Michelle’s pregnancy-induced high blood pressure, Josie’s life has been in danger throughout. “When she first came home, I couldn’t sleep at all,” Michelle said. “That was the scariest part, the full responsibility of her care on my shoulders.” Similarly daunting are the medical risks Michelle could face with another pregnancy – particularly a return of preeclampsia (high blood pressure), which can lead to a stroke or prove fatal. But the pair vow to stick to their beliefs. “People think we are overpopulating the world,” says Jim Bob, a real estate agent and former Arkansas State Legislature member, in response to critics of his large but debt-free family. “We are following our convictions.” Should Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have a 20th baby?
The 19th child of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, Josie-Brooklyn Duggar, was released from the hospital last week, only to be sent back there three days later. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar had to take her back to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock on Thursday at 3 a.m., when her vital signs began to drop. “Dr. Arrington told us to never trust a preemie,” says Duggar Family patriarch Jim Bob, quoting Josie’s physician, Dr. Robert Arrington. “That is really true.” Fortifiers to increase her calorie intake and spur growth are the culprit in causing the littlest Duggar constipation after being at home for just a few days. The constipation led to her vital signs fluctuating. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed their 19th child in December, several months premarturely. MAKE THAT 19 : Once Josie moves home for good, that is . The stars of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting say “She’s doing fine now,” regarding their littlest, and “They will watch her for a few days to make sure she’s safe.” Things are more or less going well for the little girl, though. She’s already beaten the odds , and as of today Josie weighs in at 4 lbs., 12
