Trump is apparently very proud of the fact that he paid all of $37.50 out of pocket to feed these hardworking students and their team of coaches low nutritional value fast food, featuring even lower-grade meat that hasn’t even been approved by the FDA since the government shut down. As he told CNN , he figures it would be their favorite anyway… “Because of the shutdown, you know we have the great Clemson team with us, the national champions. H ampton University’s marching band will be taking their talents to Rome in 2020. According to Wavy News , the band has been enlisted to perform in the Rome New Year’s Parade; making the school the first historically Black college or university to do so. The event is a cumulative celebration of the World Day of Peace and the Pope’s blessing for the New Year. The band will also have the opportunity to perform for local communities during their time in Italy. “This wonderful opportunity will put Hampton University on an international spotlight and bring some attention to what we’re doing with the band at Hampton. Over the last year, we have been focusing on recruiting talented musicians, dancers, color guard and majorettes. Our mission is not just to build better band students, but to shape and mold students so that they are academically proficient and have high moral character,” band director Dr. Thomas Jones said in a statement released by the university. “This trip validates what we’re doing. The strength of the program is growing. Traveling is a great incentive for new and current students and we are really looking forward to this exciting journey.” Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey echoed his sentiments, adding that the band continues to “uphold the standard of excellence as being one of the best marching bands in the nation.” News about the band performing in Italy comes on the heels of their performance in the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California. The HBCU has had a few firsts over the past few months. In November, Hampton University made history by becoming the first historically Black college and university to add a women’s varsity triathlon team to their list of sports programs. While over the years we’ve seen this trend change due to the criticism of the obvious practice it’s still an issue that doesn’t sit well with the culture. In Shudder’s upcoming documentary Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror this issue and many others concerning Black people in horror films is explored. Ranging on topics of everything from the Black stereotypes portrayed in horror films to the Black heroes in them today, actors and writers such as Keith David ( The Thing ), Tony Todd ( Candyman ), and Jordan Peele ( Get Out ) explain the evolution of the Black character in horror films. “Black films hold a mirror up to society,” Jordan Peele explains. “But at the same time give an audience an escape.” This helps explain why Jordan Peele has such a good grasp on how to make effective horror films like Get Out and Us . You know how the saying goes, don’t you? For John-David Duggar and Abbie Burnett, first came love, as they started courting in June of this year. Then came marriage, as the couple exchanged vows in early November . And now comes a baby in a baby carriage? Perhaps, the Internet is speculating, based on the photo John-David shared on Instagram yesterday, following by a possibly revealing caption. For starters, as you can tell, Duggar is covering up his wife’s stomach, maybe because there’s a child growing inside of there and she isn’t ready to show off her bump just yet. More interestingly, however, this is what he wrote along with the cute snapshot. Granted, Duggar and Burnett have been husband and wife for less than two months. But this is the Duggar family, folks. They get right to baby-making as soon as those vows are exchanged. Cases in point: John-David’s sister Joy-Anna, and his sister-in-law, Kendra, both got pregnant on their honeymoons. For now, however, neither Duggar nor Burnett are saying anything else on the topic. They’re just focused, publicly, on their new marriage and all the joys it has brought them to date. “It little surreal because I’ve dreamed about [seeing her in a wedding gown] ever since I met Abbie,” Duggar said in a video the newlyweds filmed prior to even taking off their wedding attire last month. He added at the time that the pair’s only real immediate plans involved “serving God together and spending time together.” This time may have been without any clothes on and without any protection being used to prevent a pregnancy. As for their wedding itself? “We are so excited to be married!” the stars told Us Weekly very soon after it transpired, saying of the event: “It was a beautiful moment and we so appreciate our friends and family for sharing this day with us. Source: Mario Tama / Getty The family of Lanekia Michelle Brown , 37, wants to know why their pregnant loved one recently passed away in a Mississippi jail over the weekend. According to WJTV News , Lanekia was awaiting trial for marijuana trafficking in the Madison County Detention Center when she complained of having stomach pains. By the time the nurse arrived to check on her, Lanekia was dead. She was roughly 3-4 months pregnant. Lanekia Michelle Brown, 37, died at the Madison County, Mississippi Detention Center; she was 3-4 weeks pregnant and complained of stomach pains. “I need to know what happened to her…they won’t tell me or give me no information. That’s my child.” https://t.co/wLEnq7CmP6 — Ethan Brown (@ethanbrown72) December 25, 2018 Lanekia’s family told the news station that on Dec. 23, Mississippi Highway Patrol Officer came to her mother, Margaret Johnson’s, home to inform her that her daughter had died in police custody. “They did CPR on her over and over… still didn’t get no response… So he just said she was gone,” Johnson recalled. After learning of her daughter’s death, Johnson and other family members drove down to the jail to get more information about Lankekia’s death and to collect her belongings. But when they arrived, they were told to come back on Dec. 26 instead. However, when the came back as instructed, the family claims they weren’t able to identify her body. While Lanekia was in the early stages of her pregnancy, her family stressed that the 37-year-old mother of two, didn’t suffer from any other health conditions. The family is clear: They do not trust the authorities’ explanation of what happened to Lanekia and they suspect foul play. “It’s very suspicious because like I said we talked to her and she was okay. If she had any kind of problems, she would have let us know,” a family member told WJTV reporters. In the meantime, Madison County authorities have yet to release a statement on the young mother’s death, but the Mississippi Bureau announced they will be in charge of investigating Lanekia’s case. That, and the results of an autopsy are still pending. Many of us already know that Black women dying police custody isn’t new or rare. Just last week, we reported that Janice Dotson-Stephens’ life, a 61-year-old grandmother of 10, died in a Texas jail after being held on $300 bail since July 17. She was reportedly charged with criminal trespassing and a history of mental illness. While authorities claim that Dotson-Stephen’s death was natural, the coroner’s report has yet to be released to the public. We’re praying for both Lanekia Michelle Brown and Janice Dotson-Stephens’ families. This is a developing story. We will provide updates as they become available. With only a few people left (those who kept their eyes closed), Malorie seeks safety for her two children, Girl and Boy. After her sisters’ death, Malorie links up with a small group of strangers and takes refuge in their home. When the house is no longer safe, Malorie packs up her kids and departs with her new boo, heroic co-star Tom (Trevante Rhodes), with hopes of finding a sanctuary. Determined to survive and to reach safety, Malorie ventures down a treacherous river for two-days with her family. Blindfolded, but not broken by the events, Malorie relies on her maternal instincts and survival skills to beat the odds. What we loved about the film… Bird Box clearly brings the thrills plus suspense and some really chilling moments to the table, along with a soft touch of romance with Tom under trying circumstances. We loved the dark, edgy and cold feel of the picture. Another plus – the casting and acting are stellar. Where the movie falls short – viewers may feel a bit slighted because the mysterious force isn’t fully explained and the romance between Malorie and Tom doesn’t reach its height.
