Paris Has Very First “Black Fashion Week” This is a good look. How beautiful are these ladies?? According to AFP: A Senegalese-born French fashion designer realised a long-held ambition when she staged the first ‘Black Fashion Week’ in Paris aimed at bringing African talent to a global audience. Adama Ndiaye launched the event to showcase the best the continent has to offer but dismissed criticism that it excluded others who were not black. “‘Why not a White Fashion Week?’ some have asked. But Paris Fashion Week is already white!” said Ndiaye, who is behind the show’s Adama Paris label and has organised Senegal’s Dakar Fashion Week for the past decade. “We wanted to simply promote beyond African borders designers who are well-known in Africa or in their country but who don’t have access to the global market,” she said, explaining that in Africa fashion was not yet seen as an industry in its own right. Even when designers put together collections, they were often unable to sell them, she said, adding that fashion week was not just an opportunity for designers. “For the models, the majority of them black, it’s also an occasion to get on the catwalk since most of the shows look for more expensive white models — some of whom dropped out of ‘Black Fashion Week’ to do better-paying gigs,” she said. Around 15 black designers from Africa or living in France, Haiti or the United States, presented their collections at the chic Pavillon Cambon Capucines in Paris. Visitors to the event, which began on Friday and ended on Saturday, included Senegalese singer and tourism minister Youssou N’Dour.
An invitation-only crowd at the Hamptons International Film Festival got schooled on”The Secrets of Schamus” — that’s Focus Features CEO James Schamus — by his former producing partner Ted Hope on Friday night. Schamus, whose career includes screenwriting credits for The Ice Storm and an Oscar nomination as producer of Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain , was the recipient of the festival’s Industry Toast at East Hampton Point. For A Good Time Call actress Ari Graynor emceed the event, which included toasts by Sony Pictures Classics Co-President Michael Barker and producer Christine Vachon and videotaped remarks from actor Gary Oldman , who got his first Oscar nomination starring in Focus Features’ 2011 film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. “He is a collaborator: an artist with his head in artists’ clouds and a business man with his business feet firmly in the box office,” Oldman said of Schamus before getting big laughs by poking gentle fun at the Focus exec’s mystique as a professorial indie-film rainmaker. (He’s not just a studio executive, he’s a Professor of Professional Practice in Columbia University’s School of the Arts.) “Did you know that he has won trophies for merely thinking?” said Oldman, adding: “He’s the only man ever to ace a Rorschach Test….Whenever he goes for a swim, dolphins appear….If he were to mail a letter without postage, it would get there.” Hope, who was honored with the festival’s Industry Toast in 2006, followed with a wry — and lengthy — recollection of his years spent working with Schamus at their seminal indie production company Good Machine. Under the guise of revealing the business “Secrets of Schamus” — which included “manufacture desire” and “make them want to pick up your phone call” — he amused the crowd with tales of how his bespectacled, bow-tie-wearing partner repeatedly managed to outshine him. “I’ve been a little competitive with James,” Hope said. “It’s hard to keep up with all those accolades.” The newly minted executive director of the San Francisco Film Society recalled how when they were bringing Nicole Holofcener’s Walking and Talking to the Sundance Film Festival in 1996, Schamus convinced him to put the $17,000 cost of a private plane flight on his credit card after their eleventh-hour commercial flight to Utah was grounded. According to Hope, when they learned that the private plane could not accomodate all of their fellow travelers, Schamus stayed behind, leaving his partner to pull an all-nighter in Sundance in order to sell the film to then-Miramax chief Harvey Weinstein. The morning after the sale, Hope said, “I pick up the paper and see that James Schamus had sold the film to Harvey Weinstein.” Hope concluded his remarks by telling the crowd that when he got his business cards from the San Francisco Film Society, they read: “former partner of James Schamus.” Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. The Real Housewives of Miami gossip, back stab, and cry “She Beat me to the Tweet!” We recap all of the “nice nasties” in our THG +/- review. I have one thought when I watch this show. Miami is gorgeous. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the women, at least not after you spend some time with them. After last week’s debacle at Mynt, Romain and Joanna need to talk. He’s fed up, with reason. When Joanna plays it off like it was only because she was drunk, Romain shoots back “Maybe you’re drunk every day.” Minus 12. That’s a big problem. He asked her not to drink so much and cause any drama on his special night. So much for that. He needs more than an apology. He needs to know she’ll change. Minus 10 . Don’t hold your breath, Pal. Then in another twist, Joanna says she got a call at 4am from a staff member at Mynt. They said Romain was their making out with a dancer. So if Joanna thought this was real, why not get out of bed and head down to the club? Was she too tired, or too hungover to care? Of course the one thing she must do is tell her sister. Minus 8 . I know she has to tell someone but her sister already hates Romain. No good can come of this. Minus 11 . Marta has to spread the word to the other ladies. There’s a surprise. She says if it’s true she’ll cut his balls off. That might carry more weight if she weren’t leeching off of him and her sister. It’s past time for Marta to move out and get her own place. Across town Adriana is being photographed by a famous photographer for an art show. Plus 10 . Sounds like fun. The twist is that he wants shots of her topless. At first Adriana is completely against it. Then she waffles. Minus 7 . One minute she’s incredibly uncomfortable and the next she’s taking her shirt off. That didn’t take much encouragement. In the end, plus 14 . She’s a beautiful woman and the photos looked great…at least what we could see in the fuzzy televised versions. And a plus 11 to Frederic who in one of the funnier moves of the night whipped out his iPhone to make sure he got some shots for his private collection. The photos are great but the art show is weird. Not necessarily the art itself but the guests. Minus 15 to Lea. She’s such a b*tch! Who views a friend’s portrait and asks how much airbrushing they did? Or how about when she sees that someone bought the photo and accuses Adriana of being the buyer. Even if she was kidding it was pretty lame but apparently Adriana doesn’t see it that way. She give Lea a pass on all of it but happily bashes Karent for much lesser offenses. Minus 9 because Adriana’s downright cruel about it as she mimic Karent in front of their friends. And I’d happily hand out extra points if someone could stop her from screeching “She Beat me to the Tweet!” Really. She tweeted before you could. Oh, the horror. Maybe she learned the art of back biting from good friend Lea who drags James, aka Elaine to the event with the intention of bashing Marysol some more in public. Plus 12 to Ana for trying to stand up for her friend. Karent’s taking it from all sides this week. She’s got Lea and Adriana tearing her down and her mother telling her she hates Rodolfo. Unfortunately I’ve got to side with Mom on this one. If Karent’s looking to get married, I don’t believe the problems is that the timing isn’t right. I think the guy isn’t right. Lisa and Lenny have real problems. They’ve been trying to have a baby for three years to no avail. Add on three miscarriages and they’re feeling the strain. Plus 15 to Lisa who seems to be one of the few people bothered by all of the gossip and back stabbing going on by these women. Everyone else just enjoys the drama. The ladies all show up for Gay Christmas…or Winterfest and Lea’s still making snarky comments about Karent. Minus 10 . That seems to be her gift. Well, that and marrying rich. Joanna dancing is the main attraction but they don’t really show it. Just odd cuts of her in different poses. Minus 8 . Was she that bad? And I wouldn’t bash Ana for having a stylist…what Housewife doesn’t need one…but what is she paying her for? That purple dress looked like it came off the rack at Target. Minus 7 . Nothing against Target but these women pride themselves on their designer collections and that was one boring, frumpy looking outfit. There was no sobbing this week, or drunken binges but we did get lots of back stabbing and some nudity so in the end it all evens out. ‘Til next week. Episode total = -35! Season total = -132!
Would the OG Kimmy Cakes please stand up! Lil Kim may not get too much love at awards shows nowadays… but that didn’t keep this bad azz b*tch from stopping through Life Nightclub in ATL for a little after party once the ‘BET Hip Hop Awards’ had ended. Kim and her homeboy Floyd made their rounds, and looked extra close, as they passed bottles and had Ray ‘I’ll do anything for a photo opp’ J out with them at the event. Hit the flip for more pics…

Looks like congratulations are in order ! It’s been nearly a year since they were first publicly linked – and now Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are husband and wife. A source confirms to PEOPLE that the couple tied the knot Sunday night at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., just outside of Charleston. The reception took place in a white tent at the plantation on Sunday evening. Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine), a good friend of the Gossip Girl star, performed three songs live, and there was also a deejay who spun tunes. PEOPLE also confirmed that a cake was being driven down from Virginia for the event. Lively’s mother and sister were also spotted in town, and a source told PEOPLE that the two had dinner in Charleston with Bette Midler earlier in the weekend. Reps for the two actors had no comment. Lively and Reynolds have been in nesting mode since buying a home in Bedford, N.Y., earlier this year. They have subsequently been seen working out together at a local gym, as well as spending quality time with their families in New York and Vancouver, where Reynolds, PEOPLE’s 2010 Sexiest Man Alive, was born. The two, who costarred together in 2011′s Green Lantern, have stayed relatively mum about their relationship, though Lively, 25, did tell Marie Claire this summer, “It’s definitely attractive when a man can dress well.” Reynolds, 35, was previously married to Scarlett Johansson. The couple divorced in 2010 after two years of marriage. This is the first marriage for Lively, who previously dated her Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley. Congrats and best of luck to the happy couple! We hope they never need a “Hollyweird Divorce”! Source
Miley Cyrus did her best impression of Pink on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards last night, showing up at the event with her short blonde hair spiked and in a mohawk. It was a jarring new look for the star, especially considering Pink was also in attendance – and also rocking a very similar style. Did Miley outdo the original? Will Pink always reign supreme as the most hardcore of all female recording artists? Weigh in now!
The course of equal opportunity raunchy comedy never did run smooth. Like Bridesmaids , Bachelorette is a foray into proving that ladies are capable of wielding gross-out humor just as ably as the gentlemen, with the obvious comparison piece being Todd Phillips’ The Hangover . Written and directed by first-timer Leslye Headland (who previously worked as a writer on Terriers ) and produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, Bachelorette sends its trio of dysfunctional bridesmaids into all kinds of night-before-the-wedding misbehavior, including cocaine use, falling-down drunkenness, physical altercations, promiscuity, theft and general nastiness. But then, as if afraid that all of this misdeeds will drive the audience away, the film tries to add a last minute portion of heart, explaining away the actions of its three main characters as the result of damage and pairing them all up with guys to get them through to an at least temporary happy ending. Sometimes funny, sometimes shrill and wildly uneven, Bachelorette demonstrates film and television’s continuing struggle to provide a platform for funny women in the realms of R-rated comedy and the tug-of-war between the desire to push boundaries and fears about likability, about female characters still needing to be warm and pretty and matched up with someone romantically. Interestingly enough, the plot is based around the nuptials of a side character who doesn’t fit in any typical category — Becky (Australian actress Rebel Wilson) was the chubby sidekick of the “B-Faces” in high school, the one the other three held in mild, veiled contempt. Now happy, settled and about to marry a good-looking, stable guy, Becky’s unknowingly twisting the knife by asking her shocked friends (not one of whom is doing as well as she’d like in her early 30s) to be in her wedding party. Bachelorette feels at the start like it’s a version of Muriel’s Wedding that sides with the main characters mean frenemies instead of its unlikely heroine. Becky isn’t a major source of mockery, but she’s blissfully oblivious to how queen bee Regan (Kirsten Dunst), trampy Gene (Lizzy Caplan) and ditzy Katie (Isla Fisher) actually feel about the event in which they’ve promised to participate. The tightly wound Regan has a boyfriend in med school who won’t commit and a volunteer job she likes to talk about in which she reads to kids with cancer. Gene downs whatever drugs she can find and regularly wakes up in bed with strangers, while Katie can barely hold down her job in retail. The three seemed a little stunned that life has not delivered on the promise and popularity they showed in high school, and that happiness has eluded them while finding the one in their group they’ve deemed least worthy. Bachelorette seems uncertain as to what we’re supposed to think of Regan, Gene and Katie. The way they act in the outset, with Regan calling the other two to bitch about how she was obviously the one who was supposed to get married first, Gene monologuing about her blowjob technique to taunt a stranger on the plane and Katie failing to recognize Joe (Kyle Bornheimer), the guy who used to let her copy his homework (“I took French?” she exclaims in shock when he tells her) marks them as fairly awful. But the film seems exhilarated by their disastrousness, eager to shoo Becky out of the room after Gene makes a failed joke about the bride’s eating disorder and Katie orders a stripper who calls her by her old nickname of “Pig Face,” so that the three can get down to some serious drug use and then tear her wedding dress trying to fit two people inside it. These are inarguably mean girls, to the point where it’s difficult to invest their attempts to try to fix the gown in an all-night odyssey that takes them around the city and into an intersecting path with the groomsmen (led by a smarmy James Marsden as Trevor). But the film’s need to then turn around and soften them feels disappointingly like an excuse — see, they also hate themselves and think about suicide and are mournful over past abortions! These developments don’t humanize the characters, they apologize for them. Gene’s storyline in particular, in which she reunites with the high school boyfriend (Adam Scott, Caplan’s old “Party Down” romantic interest) who broke her heart, feels lurching and abrupt considering the depth of emotion it suddenly reaches for, a pity considering how smart and appealing the two actors are, both together and apart. There’s something to admire in Bachelorette ‘s initial flag-planting outrageousness, even if it goes too far and then sheepishly pulls back to a more conventional conclusion. Its contentment with acting out as a joke unto itself means it’s not often as funny as it needs to be, though it sets up and lands a few vicious punchlines — Regan’s triumphantly saving the day late in the film with her bulimia-perfected vomit-inducing technique is a dark joke indeed. But the film would be far more provocative if it let go of the need to always try to shock with content and tried to do so with form instead, and rather than solving its characters just let them be unabashedly imperfect.
